We took quite a detour to get to this enterprise and were very glad that we did. The main purpose was to get their somewhat famous country ham. They also offer simple bunwiches of pulled pork, cheap and delicious. We split half a chicken and there was a red hot hot dog enjoyed out in the cool wind and warm sun, maybe one of the most genuine feeling meals I’ve enjoyed in a long time.

Some of the best bbq in SC. BBQ is vinegar and red pepper I love it. Really a general store with awesome food, hardware, lumber and great customer service.

We drove out of the way to visit Cooper's on the way to Surfside Beach. I marked the location on Google Maps after reading about it in the December/January 2014 issue of Garden & Gun. In my mind this place was going to be a gas station version of Mast General Store or Modica Market.As a result, I had this placed hyped with the family, but was quickly disappointed. We did arrive around 6:15PM on a Saturday and they close at 7PM, so my experience might not be typical.Why was I disappointed? Well it really is just an old gas station. The smoked hams are really interesting, but really a small part of the overall experience. We bought some decent boiled peanuts. Since Cooper's is pretty far from other businesses, I visited the restroom which was outside and what you would expect from just a gas station - dirty.Honestly, I can look over the condition of the restroom and if I'm driving by around lunch time one day in the future (not likely), I would stop for a sandwich. Basically, Cooper's does appear to be a local institution, but for me it could not live up to the Garden & Gun hype and that's probably fine for the owners.

The folks at Coopers Country Store could not have been more friendly or helpful when our car completely died heading home from the beach. With 2 boys and 2 dogs with me, tired and ready to be home, the unexpected surprise was not welcome and caused meltdowns. Mr Jay tried several times to jump the battery but it was just too dead! We are grateful for his persistence and patience! In the end, it was local Mr Carl who just happened to stop by the store, saw our problem, got us a battery and installed it! From the kindness to the employees of Cooper’s Store to the talents of Mr Carl, we are so appreciative of everyone’s help today!!

Came for the famous chicken, but since it was Thursday we also got the BBQ sandwich and so glad we did! Definitely do not pass this place without stopping to say hi and take a look around.

I agree with all the reviewers…we had passed this humble place for years on our way from Charlotte to the beach. I've always wanted to stop here and we finally did.It's GREAT! They have amazing ham, ice cream, odds and ends and fried chicken. My husband loves the BBQ which they make out back. Too bad there aren't more places like this left. We had ice cream sitting outside at a picnic table under the shade of an ancient old tree.Hope it stays around for my daughter to be able to stop here with her children someday.

Not really a BBQ place. There were no sides offered, nowhere to eat except under this picnic shelter outside facing the ladies bathroom. Lights out in the deli and just overall junkie looking. I guess it's good for the locals who need a one stop shop but we made a one hour drive just to go there. Would not go back. PS the vinegar based BBQ sandwich was just ok at best

I have been a truck driver for many years and I have never paid more than four dollars for two hot dogs. Hot dogs are processed meat, two hot dogs are discounted at less than four dollars, I am never paying 5.50 for two hot dogs again, I'll go somewhere else first!

Flew in to Kingstree from Washington State for a long weekend to visit my Daughter who now lives there. We were looking for a BBQ place to try and her Boss Suggested Coopers Country Store. My Daughter had been to the other BBQ places in the area Brown's and Monkey Bottom Boys. She thought this was the best, the flavor from the vinegar based sauce is amazing!!! They really got a winner here. May not be for everyone. If you are looking for a full service restaurant this is not the place but if you want just a BBQ sandwich some ribs chicken etc to eat on the go, take home or eat outside in the shade I would be surprised if you are disappointed. I could sell the heck out of this stuff in Washington, never had or seen anything like it on this side of the country. (Mr Cooper we should talk!)

Our family stops here every time on the way from Asheville to Georgetown. We all swear it is the best country store in the state. Their BBQ is the delicious and if you have never had their ham you need to go and eat it right now because it is the best country ham you will ever put in your mouth. Everyone there was super friendly. When you need a place to stop on a long road trip, Cooper's is everything you could possibly want and more. This is one one of the most convenient places I've ever been in. Next time you're anywhere near Salters, be sure to check out Cooper's Country Store!

OMG, the pulled pork bbq is to die for. We will drive out of our way (like 2 hours) just to get a few pounds of it for dinner and freeze the rest for future meals. I've grown up in the south eating bbq my entire life and this is by far the best bbq I've ever tasted in my life. It's a very unassuming place to find freshly cooked food, especially pulled pork, but you'll be so happy once you stop in and try it. They make it fresh daily and once they are out of bbq, then they're out for the day, so get there early in the day to make sure you get a hold of this deliciousness before it's gone. It will be the best bbq that you've ever had in your life, I promise you that. I love this place!

Vital Aging of Williamsburg County held a fundraiser on 11/8/19. They served barbeque. We took some plates to a nursing home and kept 2 for supper. It was the best barbeque I have had. I found out that Cooper’s had supplied the barbeque.So, on Saturday, we rode to Kingstree/Salters/Lane to get more. There was none.Tip, if you want great barbeque, ribs, or chicken bog (the wetter version of pilau), go on Tuesday when they cook or Wednesday hoping some is left over. Or better yet, call ahead. You will not be disappointed.

I stop here during all my visits to Pawley's Island. I love their barbeque sandwiches which use a vinegar based barbeque sauce. I always buy their cured ham slices and sauce meat. They have a wide variety of pork products in the butcher section. I also recommend the Clowney's Seasoning for cooking meats.

This is the definition of a mom and pop. The food is out of this world. I ha e been coming with my family for as long as I can remember. The sausage is to die for. If your heading to pawlyes or Georgetown this is a must along your way.

One of our Thanksgiving traditions is to get our turkey from Cooper's. It's about a 3 hour round trip, but me and my brothers go every year the day before Thanksgiving. So delicious!

Was delightfiul. Levern and Jay in market were helpful. Enjoyed talking with Levern . Kelly Cooper chatted between customers . I sat in rocking chair watching the interactions of people. There were "friends" and there were customers. I felt at home. Fondly reminisced growing up in grocery business and living in a time when horse pulled wagon came through our neighborhood selling produce. I recommend anyone stopping by sample their fresh made Souse and Liver Pudding.
