The inside of the building smelled like a litter box. There were a lot of vehicles there but one person in office. No one with the dogs which were all outside in small kennels. We wanted to adopt one but with no one else there to adopt we were told we needed to make an appointment and come back on a week day. Sadly we would have we loved to have given one of the dogs a home but we work. Even working from home, the weekend is the only time we can go look for a dog.

We visited this shelter today by appointment. We worked with Nita and she was so patient and fabulous. She let us meet all the dogs we wanted to meet until we picked Doc a coonhound puppy. The staff were all professional and friendly and cared for the animals with knowledge, love, and compassion. We were given all the health information on our dog and everything was explained thoroughly. Would recommend this shelter for anyone ready to adopt.

If you want to even look at the animals without adopting you still have to fill out a whole sheet of paper with your personal information like your driver's license number. Remember this is just to look. Majority of there dogs were kept outside and when I walked up to just look at them I was told I was to close even though I was standing 10 feet away from the fence. This is really rude. Also we was denied access to even look at the animals because they couldn't prove if our cat was up to date on their shots. So all in all it was a waste of time and they were being discriminative and acting sketchy acting like there was something to hide in the back. I really feel bad for the animals that are here and if you want to adopt from there Make sure you have your animals records up to date and an appointment scheduled. Other than that the other places we went to today lett us in and look with no problem. Greenville humane center is worth the drive and less hassle with more animals to offer.EDIT: just look at their response on how they justify with the way the treated us by saying it's in the guidelines. We went to three other humain societies that day without any issues.

A well-rounded local shelter making sure pets get homes instead of being out to sleep. This is a private, non-profit, run from donations. This is NOT animal control.

Came to look at cats and dogs door to room were animals are keep were shut rudely in our face and very rude workers wanted us to fill out paperwork with all our info on it first to see about being aproved before we were allowed to look but we still have the cat we got from there 10 years ago we will never go back

Both our dogs are from PCHS. These folks are invested in the care and welfare of animals. They do an amazing service for the community with only private funding. If I could give them 10 stars I would!

I was very disappointed with my experience. I came in with 2 dogs I have found on the side of the road that are skinny and intact. I came to ask if they could take them and I was told no. I completely understand that there are a lot of dogs in the upstairs that new homes and shelters are at capacity. However, being an animal shelter within a community of rescues and fosters one would think that resources is something that this shelter would be able to help with. Nope! You’re told to call the sheriffs department which refers you back to the animal shelter.

Front desk worker was extremely sweet and you can tell they care about the animals they house, however, we went to adopt a kitty to add to the family we have a Yorkie puppy that's 7 months old. They refused us because I refused to put my puppy through a major surgery to get her spayed. That's a lot to put a puppy through just to get a kitten. Absolutely not.

We made an appointment found healthy, bright, curious, and sweet 10 week old puppy. The staff clearly cared about the pets in their facility and were kind and supportive of us and remained advocates for their dogs at the same time. Their adoption fee is insanely affordable - the fee also cover shots while at the facility and the spay when she is old enough. When it’s time for Roux to get a sibling, we will absolutely head here first.

The place was a mess because of some golf tournament and I was fine with that, really I was. But then they kept acting like we were somehow a bother to them while they took things in and out of the place. Like we were in the way while trying to adopt a cat. Treated very poorly. We also had to go get our other cats their shots (completely understandable) and when we came back, an hour before they closed, they were about to tell us no, they couldn't adopt anymore for the day. The woman that said such continued to act sour and rude the entire time we were there. Not just to us, but the other staff as well. I'd still adopt from here, but get better manners.

If you'd like to adopt a small dog don't bother trying to go here. All they do is send them off to "rescues" that will charge $400+ vs letting someone locally have a chance to have them in their family. They don't even post pictures or profiles of the small dogs because they already have them promised to rescues across the state. Don't bother

This is not a place to adopt a pet. Went in with our dog for meet and greet. The gal, supposedly in charge would not take the dog we wanted to adopt off leash in a closed area to interact with our dog. The dog had been pinned up with several other dogs in an outdoor pen, of course she was hyper. We asked several times to take her dog off leash, but she ignored our request. There are so many dogs that need a forever home and to not allow us to adopt this particular smaller dog (not a puppy) was absurd. She needs to learn animal behavior. When I checked to see if this particular dog was available and was gone this leads me to believe she promised this. Dog to someone ekae.

I had a wonderful experience at the Pickens County Humane Society. I received a warm greeting before I even got out of the car. The facility is clean and the caregivers obviously have a personal connection with each of the animals. Thank you so much for your kindness, patience, and encouragement as I chose my next forever friend!

The rudest bunch of people ever! Tried to adopt a kitten for over a month. I was told they needed to have shots, so I waited. Then told had to be posted and set up a appointment, time came we were told it would be the next day. Finally today we were told kitten was not available, as it had been given to vet tech program at tri county tech. Awful experience, stay away from these terrible people!

We were so excited when we found out that these wonderful people had my friend's puppy, Lucky. We literally drove there with me and my PJs and my friend recuperating from major surgery, arriving only 10 minutes before they closed. It was the fifth time Lucky had run away.Sadly he ran away again only a few days after that.I'm Praying the people who found him this time will give him a wonderful home.

When I adopted my cats this place was run by wonderful staff who were excited and supportive. Since then they have been taken over by new management that is condescending and rude. I called asking for copies of medical records and the woman on the phone was nasty, combative, and unwilling to help. It’s sad to see a place of such joy taken over by management that no longer honors service or respect for those adopting. Be mindful coming here.

This place is so wonderful. All the people there were so nice. They seem to really care about all the animals. I had taken 2 dogs for my neighbor and I feel that I made the right choice. 60.00 dollars well spent.

How can someone decide a puppy is for a right home in the time of 10 minutes. This place is judgmental and it’s outrageous. Not even educated on the proper food for a puppy. I am beyond disappointed in how we were treated.

I bought a kitten from this place about a month ago. After a month of owning this cat health problems starting appearing and he died almost instantaneously. There was nothing i could do for this kitten and i’m almost certain it was an issue when this kitten was born. This institution focuses more on if the cats are vaccinated and not if the cat has any other issues. I cared for the kitten and loved it in all aspects and it died from unknown circumstances (most likely birth defects). The humane society should take more precautions when selling kittens and expect their health more. This was such a sad circumstance for my family especially for my self.

Terrible experience here. So disappointing. You would be better to adopt your pet elsewhere.

This is more of a question as I’m clueless about getting rid of animals (also just because I don’t want to :-(...) . I am very sad to have to let my kittens go, but I have no choice, as I’m moving and can’t take 5 cats with me. They are wonderful kittens who’ve been indoors with me since they were born. I’ve grown extremely close to them and they are absolutely amazing pets. They love people and they love to be loved on! This would be a blessing to know they would find homes where they would be well taken care of. It would be 4 total, 2 male & 2 female. Born October 11th 2019, so they are still very young and tiny and cute! They are adorable & so very sweet. Should I bring them in? If so, what all do I need to bring? Other than a jar & tissue for my tears when I leave :-(

The people that work there are so nice and understanding. They need donations like dog and cat food and chew toys and of course money, whatever you can do. Support our local Humane Society of Pickens County!!

We got our dog from here. She now serves as my service dog. When off duty, she loves to play with the kids and spend time with the family. Thanks for all you do for the animals!
