Unfortunately, our experience at Elgin Veterinary Hospital was extremely disappointing. Despite expressing our concerns about our dog's health, including her age and history of mast cell disease, the vet recommended treatments that ultimately worsened her condition. Despite our wishes to prevent unnecessary suffering, the vet insisted on further treatments that were ineffective and ultimately led to our beloved pet's decline. Their lack of empathy and refusal to acknowledge our dog's circumstances was deeply upsetting. We cannot recommend their services.

Awesome service, Dr Sarah Scot was tremendous. Very caring and understanding of our pig. Price was great, staff at the clinic was very helpful. Will definitely be using the Dr. again.

The best exotic vet in all of South Carolina! Dr. Hoppmann and her staff are so knowledgeable! I've been "part of the family" for many years and always will be ! Dr. Hoppmann specializes in avian and small animal care! I trust her judgements and her decisions always.

Terrible experience and DO NOT RECOMMEND. I called them to get pricing information to have my dog neutered. They told me he would need to come in for an office visit for a check up first. I was fine with that, he needed updated shots. I showed up for the appt and there was a note on the door saying they were only doing curbside services today. I called them to let them know I was there. When the vet tech came out to grab my dog, I told her that I wanted to speak to the vet also about his hyperactivity, etc. The tech then came back out to give me a price quote for his shots and they tried to add unmedically necessary shots, like the flu. When I declined the shot, she went inside and came back out saying that the vet required it if he was going to get neutered there, so I agreed. They brought my dog back out and I asked if the vet was coming out to talk to me, and the tech said that she had left already (I saw her in her car fly out the parking lot). I didnt even get to see her to talk to her about my concerns. I paid and then asked for a price and schedule for him to get neutered. She said they would email me the quote and then told me it would be around $600! I asked why so much and she said it was bc of the medicine, etc that they use. She then told me that I could go somewhere else to “get it for cheaper”. When they did send me the quote via email, it was well in the $700 price range! That is an insane amount of money to get a dog neutered! So I ended up getting an unnecessary shot for a surgery I can’t afford to have there, didnt get to see the vet at all, couldnt go inside and given a ridiculous quote for that surgery. I DO NOT recommend.

Took my sick bunny to them. Had an appointment to return. Then they said they had Covid. and would call my when that was over and Cinny could return. They never called me back. My bunny died.

Elgin Vet Clinic is conveniently located to NE Columbia and is much easier to drive to than downtown Columbia. Also, Dr. Hoppmann is so kind and knowledgeable. Her staff is friendly and "small town" helpful. Highly recommended.

First visit with Tiki Parakeet to Elgin veterinary hospital - for nail trim- and Band removal - to prevent irritation on leg- that all went great- suggestion was made to purchase Wound cleanser plus bird Adult Mash - products are totally overpriced found exact brand for half what I was charged at Veterinary Hospital on Amazon. Lesson learned will be more careful in the future.

Dr.Hoppmann is the best. She and her staff are a family and they invite all of their clients into the family. They look out for their clients by being flexible and going above and beyond. If you walk in her clinic, you will not go looking for a new vet again.

They seem to only care about making extra money where ever they can. Asked to have a fecal test done on my dragon and they refused unless I had the dragon examed also. All I wanted was a fecal test done. Will never go to them again

We had the good fortune to find Dr. Emily Hoppmann of Elgin Veterinary Hospital when searching for a vet that would treat exotic animals like my chinchilla. With the amazing care she and her staff provided to my chinchilla, it was an extremely easy decision to move all of my pets to her. All my fur kids have been a part of her extended family going on 4 years now and the level of care they receive cannot be matched! They provide honesty, sincere, and through care. You will be provided all the details regarding your pets care plan and the best options they have to offer. the best vet experience i have ever had. they genuinely love the pet! when you call them with questions, they are POLITE and don't act like you are bothering them, as i had experienced with the last vet i went to. Elgin Veterinary Hospital is absolutely the best. If you live in NE Columbia, it is worth the drive to come to our little town of Elgin to this Vet! Awesome people and comfortable atmosphere!

I think the staff is good / qualified. However I do feel their prices are ridiculous! I do not feel like I should have to take a bank loan to get annual shots for 2 dogs.... I raised Labradors for 20 years and dealt with Vets that were more qualified and paid MUCH lower vet bills in Illinois.Love living in SC, but really think the vet services (expecially in Elgin) are a complete rip-off!

We moved to Columbia a year ago with our chinchillas and guinea pigs, and we were thrilled to find such a caring and knowledgeable exotic vet. Can't recommend Dr. Hoppmann and her team highly enough.

I would not trust this vet with exotic animal care, I took my leopard gecko here and the dr told me the only problem was my pet had a impaction. I told her there was something wrong with my geckos eyes but I was told there was nothing wrong with the eyes. After no improvement with my pet I took her to another exotic vet, and it turned out my gecko had ulcers in both eyes and has possibly lost her vision for good. Dr. Hoppman gave me no advice on how to feed a gecko who isnt self feeding (refusing food, not eating) she didnt suggest critical care liquid diet (something I had to learn from another exotic vet) I dont think she cared or even looked at my gecko at all. If she did she should have noticed how bad of a shape she was in. Im very angry and disappointed in the lack of care they showed to my pet. If you have exotic pets, save your pet and go to Waxhaw Animal hospital. Dont waste your time and money here.

I cannot praise this team of people enough. Dr. Hoppmann is a wonderful person who truly cares about my pets as much as I do. She is so knowledgeable, and never hesitates to answer all of your questions. The staff is also friendly and extremely helpful. She has been caring for my animals (two cats and a dog) for a few years now, and there is nobody else I'd trust to take them to.She literally saved my cat's life once - and made it an affordable experience. This cat now has to be on medication for the rest of her life, and Dr. Hoppmann came up with a solution that is both low-cost and low-stress for us and our precious kitty.I highly recommend this veterinary clinic based on their affordability and the genuine, caring nature of the staff and doctor. They really do treat you like family.

Being new to the area and not knowing anyone to ask, I chose Elgin Veterinary Hospital after reading all the great reviews. I was not disappointed! Dr Hoppmann was wonderful with my cat. She is very compassionate and informative. You can tell this isn't just a job to her, this is what she loves. Every one of the employees were super nice, chatty, and happy to answer any questions I had. I feel very relieved to have found such a great place to take my furbabies!

Everyone at this office has been so amazing. I'm flying to the UK with my cat and they have done everything possible to help me during the process with research, my timeline, and being responsive if I had questions. They've made a somewhat difficult process much easier and I can't thank them enough! I would absolutely recommend them.

This is absolutely the very best, most excellent vet care ever. My opinion is based on pet ownership and actual relationships with Veterinarians, Vet Hospitals and Vet staff over a period of 50 years. Experiences in New York, Hawaii and South Carolina veterinary. My pets are family and as with my biological children, a great Veterinarian is a must for me. Dr. Emily Hoppman, Lori, Molly and all staff members make sure you receive the best care, while giving your pet their best as well. All your medical, surgical,boarding, etc needs are exceeded here. The prices are very economical and in most cases lower than other Vets. If you are serious about your pet's care, Elgin Veterinary Hospital is a 10 plus plus many times over.
