I have adopted from them in 2021 and and hoping to again. I donate towels, blankets and food. Please consider Darlington when looking for a new fur family member. They do so much and have so many! My Lucy ! My world!

Everyone was awesome here. I found adorable Baby Donna online through "petfinder", and the rest is history. Everyone I dealt with were very kind & caring. Couldn't be happier unless I was able to home all the furbabies.

The state of the shelter would improve if the staffing obtained a higher standard of professionalism. Unfortunately, the animals suffer as collateral damage. The communication patterns and format need improvement.

What these people and this organization do for animals warms the heart and the soul. We recently adopted a sweet dog they took in who had a broken leg and he is now thriving with us. I admire how much they care. We plan to donate what we can where we can to help out. Keep up the great work.

I think they would serve themselves better and ultimately the animals I'd they had a computer data base or spreadsheet to handle all the inquiries..wants...volunteers. I think they work hard but could work smarter! They do CARE

I took a pregnant stray yesterday and these people were so nice. As much as I wanted to keep this sweet girl I was unable to. I'm from Texas and I will say I was very worried taking her based in My experience back home.Their attitude care and compassion was outstanding. I felt ine hundred percent assured she would be treated with love and they would find loving Homes for her and her babies. Thank you

If I could have giving this place -0 I would have. I put in an application for two puppies and they were Jack Russell's that just came in on Dec I was plan on getting them for my kids. I put the application in for the puppies the same day that the puppies were brought in I did not hear from no one. They pretend that Mrs Sue. Was going to call me back. I have call servals time and left my name in number so today 1-5-23 I call and they say that they received my application but the puppies are not there no more. It making me feel like they give the puppies to whomever they want to. Look at their reviews it same like there is favoritism to me.

The cat area smells like ammonia and bleach. I had to turn around and walk out bc it took my breath away, and my eyes started to burn. The cages are stacked on top of each other, and most of the cats seem to have eye issues and breathing issues. My guess is due to the strong smell. As I walked around, I could also see many things that needed attention......*Donated food /treats infested with rats*food bowls thrown into the woods line*creates and dog houses also in Woods line that had weeds growing up through them* Drop cords ran along top of cages improperly and along the ground* Heat lamp ends cut, then rewired to each other and ran along kennels (fire & electric hazard)* bleach being sprayed into kennels at a 3 to 1 ratio, which can cause them to have pad burns* A lot of donated items being misused, discarded, left out to ruin, or simply allowed to be eaten up by rats.In my opinion, whoever is over seeing the donated items need to better store them, oversee them, and use them effectively.

The Darlington County Humane Society is a very caring place. The staff and volunteers work very hard to keep all the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens happy and healthy, while to try to find their fur-ever home.

I have 4 Darlington dogs and love them dearly. Go in with realistic expectations. Most of these animals are strays. The staff and volunteers do their absolute best to evaluate pets before they go out for adoption. Don't expect a full history on the animal prior to it getting there. Most of the time it's impossible to know where they came from and how they'll react in your home. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our dogs and cats!

Nice folks helped us rescue a sweet puppy. * couch potato. He likes to relax after a hard run at the food bowl.

The staff went above and beyond to help us when we adopted our pup from them. I'm 2 hours away from them and they happily answered all of my endless questions I had before I actually made the trip to the shelter and even waited for me during an emergency closing because they knew I was already on my way there. They worked great as a team and it's obvious how much they care for animals.

My dogs got taking from the fire department because the guy next door was treating to hurt them if they didnt get taken. I couldn't go get them because I was at work. I was giving the number to the person who pick them and was directed to call the animal shelter. I call told them I was able to come get them within the two day time to pick them up. So i was told I'll be able to adopt them back once they go up for adoption and to keep checking the website and their Facebookto see when they go up for adoption. So i gave them all the info on my dogs. Name, color, how old they were and everything. I check everyday for two months to see if they were up for adoption and nothing. I call and was told that they were no longer there because they dont keep them longer then a month. So I started looking up every animal shelter up and down the east coast to try and find them until one shelter page lead me to pet finder were you can see what pets are available around the nation and what pets have been adopted. I was going through the Darlington SC section looking to see if they were still there or it would tell me where they were move to. Where I found that my dogs had been adopted under the name of Ken and Barbie. Which would be the reason why I never knew they went up for adoption because they change their name after me giving all the information they asked for over the phone. Those dogs mean the world to me and now they are gone forever. So I'm not happy with the Darlington County Humane Society

Very professional and caring staff. We adopted an adult cat and they made sure she was healthy and ready for ownership. We did have to wait 2 weeks as she had to be treated for ring worm, but they took care of it all and kept us up-to-date while we waited. You can tell they take time to care for all the animals as our cat was there for over a year, but is very used to people, using a box, and has very good social behaviors in our house. Can't thank them enough!

If you are looking to adopt a cat or dog call Darlington County Humane Society first. There will be some that haven't even made the website photos yet, but the good people there will let you know all about the pets they have available and help you to arrange to meet them. I adopted the sweetest Shepherd mix there and I just adore her! Visit there first and you probably won't need to look any farther!

I think they do a good job for what they are working withI can't believe that people cant donate their time or materials to get the new building built. I feel the humane way would b e let the animals go they will be better off then to be out in a cage with a tarp covering them. So sad. And the smell in the cat house. I would definitely adopt from here just to have a pet a happy life

Edited 3/3/22 - Still ran by nasty attitude people. I was approved to adopt and wanted to add to our furbaby family. I was treated like a child, I was talked down too, the lady was condescending and rude to me when I was asking basic questions. They brought out a *unspayed* female to an *intact* male and let them breed five times in front of me while they watched and when I asked if they were gonna stop the two dogs her response was "she will be spayed in a few weeks"....okay so you let them get pregnant then abort the pups. They were rude, arrogant and would rather put an animal to sleep than let them get adopted. I tried to give them a benefit of the doubt since it's been a few years but I will not ever be contacting them again. Because the treatment I received was utterly ridiculous. Darlington county shelter doesn't care about any animal. The same lady runs the show and she has always had a bad attitude since she worked at Anderson vet in Hartsville.

Recently I had to find a home for my mom's dog because she's gone into long term assisted living. Rebecca went above and beyond to help me with finding a new home. I will never forget her help and kindness at a very sad and difficult time.

The place was very clean and the animals areas were clean. The staff were polite and eager to help. I highly recommend everyone looking for a big 🐕 to go adopt one there cause they have quite a few adult dogs that NEEDS LOVING homes. Please go there!! May God bless you and your family!

Very caring staff and volunteers. They make ever effort to find good homes for all adoptable animals. They have a rescue branch that works hard to provide medical care and send animals to rescues in other areas if they aren't adopted locally. They save many many lives each year!

The people that work and volunteer here are dedicated, compassionate and kind. They deserve a lot more credit than they receive. They are the real hero's I wish the people that are so judgmental would come for a week and work in the trenches with them. They do a phenomenal job with what they have to work with.

Went to adopt a dog and never got a call back or anything. It has been over a month now. My mom really wanted the dog and since it's over an hour drive we will not waste time going back unless they call us. Really disappointed because the dog would have been loved beyond measure.

I’ve had an extremely hard time with the people who work here. They would not cooperate with me or my father and hung up on him after he was just trying to locate his dog. He had gotten lost over the weekend and was attacked by another animal while he was lost and looking for his way back home. They simply told us “we do not know where your dog is” after he had been picked up by them. My father and I are very disappointed and heartbroken and they have only made this time much worse for us. I’ve heard other people say they’ve had extremely difficult times trying to cooperate or adopt animals from here and it seems they were right. We still do not know where our baby is and we are desperate.

Very clean but they are in desperate need for any kind of help. they need new Buildings with air in the summer and heat in the winterThe people that work there are so nice and you can see how much they love animals. I'm trying to help out with what ever I canIf it's blankets , food or some donation.

This is the worst shelter I have ever tried to adopt from. I placed an application for one of the 10 week puppies, 5 days later they still haven't reviewed it. Come to find out the puppy I wanted was now contained because of an outbreak of some sort. The puppy will now not be available for 15 more days. All of the dogs are terribly skinny and under weight. I honestly feel terrible for the puppy, I would love to have him but I'm not sure he will be alive to adopt.
