Maybe it's time for me to have a conversation with the folks here. We've brought our dog for boarding a couple times per year for about 5 years. There used to be a consistent staff, now it's a revolving door. Chris was so friendly at check in but the person doing this now needs lessons in customer care. No smiles, no warm welcome, nothing. The facility used to look and smell clean, now it's grungy and smelly and my dog comes home stinky. The last two visits my dog came home and couldn't stop drinking water as though she was dehydrated. She used to be excited to head back to the kennel area but the last 2 times she had to be pulled back. Maybe she's happy while she's there but without live video I can only take their word. I've lost confidence and will be looking for another kennel.****Update: Thank you for calling, Shelby. We had a productive conversation and I'll definitely stop in unannounced sometime as we discussed. I'd like to continue to use Barnwell Oaks as my kennel as you have the best prices and biggest dog runs around. We shall see.

Edit to this review a year later: Barnwell Oaks is still the greatest kennel ever. The owner is incredibly friendly, and the manager, Shelby, is phenomenal. I adore this place and never, ever doubt when my pets are being boarded here. Go with Barnwell Oaks! You won't be disappointed!I've had no issues with this place whatsoever. I've left my pets here multiple times and the staff are always super attentive to my many dogs' needs (which are quite different from each other) and even have personal updates on my own pets when I come to pick them up. They tell me if my dog was nervous, sick, didn't eat, or similar.I've stopped by a few times to make appointments or drop off vet records and they're always hard at work caring for the dogs, especially during storms or similar. They take the job seriously and cut no corners, and I am grateful to have this service for my pets. I highly recommend them for boarding. Oh, and they're quite affordable too!I see people mentioning that they charge $1 a day to feed your pet their own food, but I have no problem with this as I know it requires extra storage and consideration to feed them outside of what they know already. They also offer grooming services, med-giving services and more, all for affordable rates.Thank you!

Very well run kennel. The staff is very nice and love seeing your dogs on every visit. They call anytime there's an issue, but that's resolved over the phone. I have boarded my 4 dogs there many times and used their grooming service, as well. All dogs returned like I left them, except they smell better. lol.

I've been taking my dogs here for several years when I go out of town. I usually get him a bath while he's there. I pass at least three other kennels just to get to Barwell Oaks.

I've used this kennel for years and honestly was satisfied all this time .... until yesterday ... I sent an email and asked a simple question wanting to know did they still charge customers to bring in their own dog food ( they charge you $1 a day to do this) and told them how I hoped they had changed this policy since it makes no sense why you'd charge the customer to bring their own food, being that saves them money and you really shouldn't be changing a pets diet abruptly like that and the fact in June they had a rate increase. Well obviously whoever handles their email got really butt hurt and offended and became totally unprofessional stating most people use their food anyway (LIE #1 because they don't even advertise or even offer to tell you what brand they use) and they are in line with most kennels (LIE #2 because most kennels DO NOT have this ridiculous charge) and then they went further to state that they canceled my reservation for July!! Without my asking, without my permission and obviously out of spite because they didn't like my line of questioning. I know this wasn't the owner because she would never respond like that having been in business all these years for a good reason. I'm trying to reach out to the owner to let her know what someone did and show her the emails so hopefully the true owner will see this and get to the bottom of the unprofessional spite one of her workers is using, which will cost her to lose valuable customers, like myself. This review is to alert the public that someone there "claims to care for pets " but clearly could care less about your pet" if they would just boot out an innocent animal they've kept for years and years just because they are questioned about prices by the pet owner. I didn't even identify myself or my pet so they went the extra step to look up my email, see what pet it was linked to so they could then cancel his July 2024 reservation. That's pretty vindictive and unprofessional and now makes me wonder if my dog was treated as good as I had thought all this time. I want to talk to the owner and I hope she will come forward to address this. Although I doubt I'd ever return because now I have lost trust in this place. Be cautious people .... this isn't typical behavior of staff that loves their job or loves animals. I don't think it's the owner to be honest, but I do think it's one of her staff members who's got a hot head, quick temper, lack of people skills and not truly a lover of animals and that is a scary reality when your pet stays there while you are away and need care for them.

We’ve used Barnwell Oaks Kennels for over fifteen years and would never consider any other place. They take extra-good care of our baby girl and she’s in great condition when we pick her up. We don’t like to leave her when we travel, but when we have to it’s only Barnwell Oaks Kennels for us!

We’ve boarded our dogs here twice now. We have a pitbull and a pitbull mix rescues. Stayed for a week the first time and a few days the next. Great friendly staff. They all seem like real animal people. Dogs came back home clean and happy each time. Very reasonable pricing. Love the fact that we can board the dogs in the same kennel so they can keep each other company. Thanks team! Keep up the good work.

My dog's first time away from home not so great. Separation anxiety. Staff did call me & let me know that he was barking non-stop. Suppose to be a 5 day stay but staff requested that I pick him up after two days. When I picked him up he was filthy & smelled like he had been laying in feces. Staff member that I spoke to over the phone was very nice. Dog handler wasn't too friendly.when she brought him to me.

Have used them twice & have been very happy with their services. Staff is very friendly & our fur babies have been well taken care of. The kennel is clean & they offer additional services for the pets. We'll continue to use them when we need to be away from home & I recommend their grooming services too. Prices for all services are very reasonable. We were able to reserve kennel space on short notice but I'd call early during busier times of the year as I'm sure their spaces fill up quickly.

We have been taking our dogs here for the last few years. Never had any problems, staff is great! If you need boarding during holidays make reservations well in advance as they tend to fill up quickly.

They accommodated us very quickly for a last minute decision to board our dog. They sent us pictures of our baby every day, emailed us updates and kept our minds at ease while so far away. We have boarded at many kennels and this was by far one of the best. I've never had anyone send pictures or updates and I must say I was all around pleased with their services. The kennels are located away from main roads, back in the woods and I believe the owners live on the property. I would recommend them to anyone who wants their fur baby to have the best accommodations.

Had an amazing experience with our two pups who stayed here last weekend. They were groomed and nails trimmed, they were so tired sunday night which was nice after a long weekend. We could tell they had a fun time. So thankful for the prices and the commedies they offer and quickness. Definitely will use them in the future.

This is a beautiful kennel! The surranding woods given this place that at home feeling. The facility is very clean and well maintained. I wouldn't leave my dogs anywhere else. The staff is kind and diligent. Every dog that boards there is treated like the honored guest at the family reunion.

We have a very nervous and skittish dog that does not like strangers... they are so great with him and by the end of a weekend stay, they were able to handle him with out us there. Such great people. Have used about 4 or 5 times now for when we cant take our fur baby with us somewhere, and would highly recommend.

We love boarding our dogs here. They are flexible with our travel, great with our (sometimes difficult)dogs, and always friendly. The kennels are clean and a good size, and dogs have access to inside and outside when they are boarded. They allow beds and toys to make your dog feel more at home and are great about washing and drying beds before pickup (even when hour difficult dog poops his bed...)

I had to travel for 4 days wrapping a weekend. We moved here 6 months ago. My dog is like a child to me. It was very hard to leave her. Barnwell Oaks paid attention to the details. My dog has a very sensitive tummy and skin. I supplied the food and asked them to play with her and walk her daily. I also had them groom her before I picked her up. So it's fair to say we used most of there services. My dog seemed happy and was clean when I picked her up. They washed her bed cover too. She can home took over the bed we share and took a long nap.

I recently moved to the area and Barnwell Oaks Kennels were able to accommodate my 2 dogs. Communication was great and they were helpful in extending their stay unexpectedly when I had a cancelled flight back into town due to weather. Overall a nice, homey location and we will definitely be visiting again!

We absolutely love Barnwell. They are like extended family at this point. Our dog Ellie gets so excited when we turn in to Barnwell. We trust them with everything relating to Ellie! She has a very sensitive stomach and requires special food- we have never had an issue with her getting sick while there. She usually gets groomed here- we think the groomer does an excellent job! Everything is cost friendly and can be adjusted to your needs. I also appreciate their honesty- if there is bad weather they won't charge you for the walk you requested if it didn't happen. They are very kind & we have referred many of our friends to them.

Pretty decent kennel. They do charge you a 'special diet' fee for providing your own dog/cat food, even when it's packaged into individual servings. Other than that annoying policy, they do offer daily walks/ball throwing activities for the dogs for a fair price and our dog has never had kennel cough when we got her back. Overall, it's a safe place for your pet to stay.
