I had the best rental expierience at The Purple Ape. Matt and Dave immediately greeted me and were very friendly. I rented a paddle board and was also able to try out a hydro bike. Dave took his time to tell me the best techniques for using the paddleboard. He was knowledgeable and patient. I went solo, and asked him to take a couple of pictures for me and he was more than happy to do so. The water expieriences were safe and fun and I look forward to returning.

Had a blast on the jet skis today with Tom. He led the way out to the ocean to sight see a couple landmarks including a light house! Tom understood the assignment; he made learning how to operate a jet ski very easy for a first timer with his patient and welcoming attitude. I would return for the thrills and stay for the reward that you know what you pay for will go further than what you expected. 10/10 would recommend.

The store has something for everyone and great staff. Kids love the hermit crabs and the staff provide lots of info for proper care. Rental guys are awesome and know what they’re doing. Great time!

The only nasty person I came across in my whole trip to the states. The person serving us seemed as though he couldn’t be bothered, didn’t really want my fiancé and I to hire her skis to use. He brought us down to the water and pushed the jet ski so far out into the water that I struggled to get on, I know he didn’t want to hit the ground but there is a happy medium between being thigh deep in water so you can’t get any purchase and not hitting the ground. The guy said well if you fall off you’ll have to get back on from the water anyway. He made no attempt to help just watched me struggle so I felt humiliated. I said to my fiancé that he should go without me as I couldn’t manage, but he didn’t want to go without me. The guy pulled the jet ski back into the shore line and walked off. I was so angry, hurt and humiliated. We had made a separate trip to this beach having researched purple ape from the uk before we left.

My girlfriend and I rented a pair of jet skis for use in the bay for a half an hour and it was a lot of fun! Tom was polite and helpful. The price per jet ski was listed clearly On the booth as was the other restrictions. Those include that you leave a credit card to be charged in the event of damage or theft of the jet ski as a kind of security deposit. You also have to have a valid drivers license to rent the jet skis. It was great fun and I will certainly be going back!

Accused us of stealing (we did not) and claimed to have video evidence (they did not because, again, we did not) but for some reason initially refused to look into my friends bag when she offered to show that nothing had been stolen. We get shoplifting is an issue for businesses, but the situation was handled very poorly by (presumably) the manager or owner.

My daughter and I stopped in at Purple Ape to buy some gifts being we are from New York. Some of the employees were so rude after we spent over $100. We needed to use the restrooms and there was no toilet paper in the porter potty so we asked the owner he said "it won't be any time soon," like who does that... the rest of the staff also claimed they had no idea where it would be.

Yesterday we went to Purple Ape, a jet ski rental area near Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island. We had traveled over an hour and it was not the experience that I was expecting. As soon as my family and I walked up to talk to the people about renting a jet ski, they were extremely rude, judging us, and they even spoke to us in a very unprofessional manner swearing at us and telling us to just leave, giving us the impression of being racist. Another person came to help us out and he had the same attitude lashing out at us for no apparent reason saying that we did not meet their requirements. All my kids' ages 14 to 19 were speechless by the actions of the company. Just before our trip, I called them two times on different days for all requirements and needs, still, they managed to upset and ruined our vacation day. Ultimately we left quietly and never rented a jet ski.*Update: After Tom read my comment, he called my son for an hour to have the reviews deleted because he is clearly more interested in the ratings on his page instead of his service. He then went on my personal business page (search my name up on Google) and left me with a 1 star rating when Tom has never been in my office before. HE HAS NEVER BEEN UNDER MY CARE; this behavior is VINDICTIVE. Instead of correcting his and his employee's behavior, he's attacking his customers.

Called around 2 pm to try to reserve Jet Skis, was told by the girl in the store there was no phone in the jet ski rental area and told me that we had to come in to pick a time. Drove 1 hour and 20 min to find out they were done for the day. The manager said he told his staff to tell everyone any calls after 10 they were booked for the remainder of the day which she failed to mention. Then the manger told me that their website states till 5pm for skis which it doesn't not. Definitely not top tier service or properly stated times or schedules and regular non management staff seemed not to alert as far as changes to incoming customers.

We went to the Purple Ape today for my wife’s birthday and had a blast on a jet ski. The staff was very professional to us. Even though we could only go in the bay and not ocean for the small window of time in the morning (due to tide and wind), they were very clear about what is appropriate and why. However, I do see how this could upset customers especially if it means they can’t ride for the day due to safety and probably the law. Remember that when reading any negative reviews...

This was such a fun experience! Tom was so helpful with helping us plan time on the jet skis! He got us out as early as possible so we could still have the rest of our day! Definitely will be back for more!

I found the Purple Ape because my daughter requested jet skis for her 17th birthday. To prepare, I went weeks ahead to the area to scout our beach spot and make reservations for the jet skis. During that first interaction, Tom (the owner) was short and seemed uninterested. He basically did not want to make any type of reservation and told me to call him a couple of days before we planned on going up there. In compliance, I called him a couple of days prior, only to be told to call him upon our arrival.Still without a reservation, I went ahead as planned and took the party to the beach. When we arrived, I called Tom again and we finally settled on a time.When we got to the Purple Ape, ( 12 kids in toe) the nightmare began. Tom (not his employee) was so incredibly rude I would have walked away if it had not been for the fact that it was my daughter's birthday. I thought my husband was going to lose it, but he too held it together because of our daughter.Here's how he made things difficult:1. We had to provide extra proof of identity2. Give a large deposit (which isn't listed on any signage)3. He wouldn't allow me to use my credit card to pay for the jet ski my nephew would be driving.4. Wouldn't allow us to rent 3 just ski's but limited us to 2. (Although to be fair, he did give us 20 minutes extra time, or so we thought)5. He made my 7 year old niece (who is so skinny) sit in the back instead of in between an adult and my daughter. She ended up falling off the back (which she enjoyed) and my daughter had to jump into the water to ensure her safety.6. He ended our time 10 minutes early regardless of his earlier promise!!!Bottom line, be warned. If I had the power, I would shut down his operation. Tom's practices are unethical (changing prices and processes on a whim) and his interpersonal skills are horrid. You've been warned.

Theses people sell hermit crabs knowing they do not breed in captivity and only live 1 to 4 years when they should live decades. This is so sad!!!! We don’t own animals, just let them be. It’s just not right

Had an amazing time. Guide was really helpful but let us do our own thing as well. We were able to go out in the open ocean and control our own ride. Great time and would highly recommend if you have the time. Everything was super safe but also incredibly fun.

The purple ape in rhode island near misquamicut beach was a horrible experience. I went to the counter and the guy there was very condescending toward us. They did not greet us when we came to the counter and we had to get their attention. We simply asked them that we wanted to rent 2 jet skis. They asked for a credit card specifically so I gave them my credit card under my dad’s name because we share the same bank account and they refused to let me use that even though I had my drivers license (I am 21) and I offered to give my own debit card as reassurance as well but they didn’t allow it even though the website said nothing about the cards name for payment matching the driver. We had called a few days ago as well asking for requirements and information and they didn’t mention that either. Then the staff worker said we can only put 2 people on a jet ski even though the website clearly advertises that 3 people can get on and over the phone they had confirmed that 3 could get on if going in the bay and not in the ocean. And everyone in my family is small built people who weigh less that 120 lbs. so that wasn’t the issue. When we started to ask simple questions they started to get annoyed and got angry for no reason. They were treating us differently than how they were treating their other customers by using condescending tones and a very bad attitude like saying “that is not happening” in a loud disgusting way and started accusing us that we would break his jet ski in the water like we were below him. The second staff member then came us and started eaves dropping on our conversation of our money matters when we were paying for the jet ski and started complaining about his hourly pay of $11 and that how would we like to be in his shoes. He did not want to help us or even do his job correctly. We came for a fun vacation and were treated so horribly and the worst customer service ever. Never going back there for sure. Worst place, save your money and go somewhere else where they take your considerations and help you.

I'm from CT and it's a must for my family and friends to stop by the purple ape every summer! Good people, and the jet skis are SWEET!! the owner is in everyday and will definitely kick start your vacation off properly.... Did I mention he drives up palm trees from Florida?! It's a stone's throw from the beach, you have to stop in!

I recently went to the Purple ape jet ski rental location in Rhode Island and had a very bad experience with the service. As arriving the employees were very rude answering any general questions that I asked. The rules and regulations to rent a jet ski were not clear on the online website and when I asked the employees they lost their temper on me instantly which was not professional at all and personally felt racially attacked. In the end I had to leave the place without renting the jet ski which was disappointing as I had travelled a far distance. Terrible place and wouldn’t recommend to others.

Worst store. The place is literally just t-shirts nothing else except hermit crabs which is my biggest issue. As someone who has studied animals for years it pained me see those poor hermit crabs like that .first off the sell the smallest area for them to live in, not even big enough for a food and water bowl for them. Also hermit crabs need at least 5 gallons of space per crab and those are not. The staff also has no idea how to care for them and while I was there told 3 sepesepa people buying crabs three different things when they asked the same question. Not only that but when she went to grab the crabs for them she ripped it off the wall of the enclosure they were in!! Not only all of this about animal cruelty basically but the entire time I was in there not one staff member even looked at me. Never once did they say hi or ask if I needed help. I will never go back and will never go back .

Tom of the Purple Ape was amazing, showed up early at opening and he made time to get us out on the jetskis to work around our schedule for our Block Island Ferry time. 10/10 highly recommend.

Went over to rent a jetski everything was pretty straight forward.. Prices paperwork video and we were on the list and ready to go. The workers were friendly and the instructor who brought us out into the ocean was great. Overall it was good experience!
