I am super disappointed and upset. I applied for two beautiful dogs. After applying a week later I received a phone call saying that all they needed to do was reach out to my latest veterinarian and my 3 references. I called about a week after I was informed of this to see how my application process was going. Talk to the front desk lady and she was super excited about us adopting those two dogs. She even asked me to schedule an appointment soon to come meet and greet the animals to make sure we were a good fit. After waiting another additional week to give them two weeks to reach out to my three references and veterinarian I did not receive any phone calls no emails back regarding my application. After emailing them a third time regarding my application update, I received a follow-up email that my application was denied. They gave me no reason whatsoever just that it was denied. I do not recommend anyone getting any dog here at all!!!!!! They got my families and I hopes up for no reason. They dragged me around for weeks without keeping me updated about what was going on with my application. They never answer the phone nor kept me updated.

I applied to adopt a cat. I literally went and visited the cat every day for two weeks. Went through adoption application and was told my reference numbers were wrong so I immediately wrote them back and in that short time they told me that the cat was magically adopted. I wrote them and said please keep me posted if it falls through. I still go every day and the cat is still there with no “I’m adopted” sign yet the cat above him (Princess) has a sign on her cage. I wrote them and asked if they were sure they had the correct cat I was asking about… no response. Begged them to respond. Still no response. Instead of LYING and denying one of your animals a warm, loving home, you let it rot in that cage. I will continue to go see Oreo every day since I truly loved and wanted him and would have given him a beautiful life. We have kids and other friendly animals he would have loved. Since they don’t seem to care about their animals, I will continue to go give the poor cat some love. I wrote them and told them they could have just been honest if there was some reason they didn’t want me to adopt him. But of course, no response. And the responses I got were very short and bland. No feeling behind them at all. They don’t care. Clearly. Praying Oreo finds a good home. Shame on you guys. Absolutely no need to lie to me… all I’m trying to do is give the animal they put up for adoption to a good home. Myself being adopted, that mattered to me a lot.

Ridiculous to put animals in need of adoption in a public store so you can see them and help by opening your home and then be given the run around when adoption time comes. Others were in Petco speaking to the wonderful volunteer who was caring for the cats and said the same thing: they couldn't get anyone to contact them back. Having seen many cats there and speaking to the volunteers who had nothing but praise for the shelter and adoption process, we finally put in an application for a cat we thought would fit our home well. After 2 weeks of back and forth, numerous times of emailing them vet references, etc., they stopped communicating only to finallly answer and tell me the vet said they never had me as a client which is a lie!!! I even spoke to one of 2 vets I provided who were expecting their call and never received it! The volunteers had told me that the shelter was really great at picking out great homes. Apparently not! Cats I had seen there and were told had many adoption apps are still sitting in cages at Petco. It kills me that these people care ZERO about these animals and are the reason that they are still without families and risk being euthanized or spending their lives in a shelter. Shameful.

My story is very much like many of the others. Was told everything was good did not see any problems. Called to make arrangements for pickup and was informed the "board chose not to adopt to me". Made me feel like a secondary human. I think it is a power trip for some of the "board". By the way we were denied for the exact reason that we explained and answered for previously. Not a good place to deal with. Very demeaning. I wonder when they were going to let us know, or were they. Not professional in any way. Avoid at all cost. You may want rethink if you are planning on donating to them.

Was very disappointed. Had looked online to see what dogs were available for adoption and found one that was of interest to me. The website stated that the Humane Society would be open from 12:00-5:00 on Saturday. Arrived during the hours specified finding the gate all locked with cars inside the gated area. Made a phone call to them. The person answering stated they were closed. I inquired as to why when their website stated they were open. The same person stated that I must complete an application on line, at which time they will review and schedule an appointment for me to see the animal. The person said they are closed due to Covid, but that no one has Covid, but it's still for a precaution.Found this exchange not very user friendly for anyone wishing to adopt one of the rescue pets in this facility.We had lost our beloved pet 3 months ago, so I was not in any frame of mind for this excuse as everything is open.

I volunteered at the Humane Society, I walked each dog and played with them. The dogs were good. Some very playful. Toys are a bit old and tatered. Staff is very friendly. I didn't go see their cats. The kennels were clean, dogs were groomed, updating needed treatments. It is one of the best I've seen for caring for animals. They also had a great turnout for their carwash that day. Thanks to all the folks that had their vehicles washed. Great volunteer group.

The best. Very helpful and great people. We drove a long way to find our Kiki but it was totally worth it. They care about the animals and the homes they are going too. I stopped at 4 other animal shelters before this one and this was by far the nicest staff. Thank you very much to the staff of Greene county humane society. You made the pleasure of rescuing a dog just that much more enjoyable. Kiki is doing great in her new home and we couldn't be happier. Thank you so much again for what you did for my family. Thank you so much for everything you do down there. And keep doing exactly what you are doing. You are doing a great job.

This is a fantastic organization who truly cares about the homeless and abused animals. They also have abuse officers that do tireless work and investigation of many many animals. I have adopted many cats from them and they are always the most professional and caring. They are also very thorough and making sure that the kitties are re-homed with the right Forever home. I appreciate what they do for the animals. Love you guys. Highly recommend!

I am a passionate animal lover. I take my current animals to the vet yearly, worked at a pet store for 5 years and i’ve been volunteering with cats for 8 years. They denied my application probably because I’m 20 years old. Why does age matter when you’re so obviously an animal lover and good owner. Horrible experience especially since I fell in love with a cat that was there. Unless you’re some perfect family save your time and feelings and go else where

I have had two applications that I filled out very professionaly about a month ago and still did not receive a call. Place is bull and how are you going to have a vet reference if you never had before a dog or a cat. Super judgy people work here. You wonder why people go through a breeder.

went to adopt a cat did the paper work got to talk to the directer of the place and got approved only to find out that the lady at the front counter gave it away(needles to say we got mad) and their response was there are other cats to adopt. its like first you need better communication skills in the work place, if i could shut them down i would somebody is in charge wish i knew who it was.

Our family adopted our dog, Ladybug, from this shelter many years ago. I am writing in honor of our 'Bug' as she passed last week. The Humane Society of Greene County not only does a fantastic job taking in animals in need; but also investigates cruelty cases, sometimes putting their abuse officers in danger. The shelter is clean, and the workers have an innate sense of the dogs and cats to make sure the animal fits the adopter so all are safe and happy. If an animal adoption does not work out, they will take back their animals. Please spay or neuter your pet, and give these wonderful homeless animals a chance before you buy from a breeder!!

Very smooth adoption process. We adopted a 2 year old diluted tortie female my wife and I saw in Petco Washington PA. Check out kitties there or on their website. Very responsive when contacted by phone or email.

My 2 year old daughter wanted a cat so we took her to the humane society. She picked out one she wanted which we found out had already been adopted so we found another one that she liked. We filled out the application and they never even called our references or us to let us know why we werent eleigible to adopt. Its been almost a month and we still havent heard from them.

Does not respond to reports of animal abuse and neglect. Has been very short and rude with anyone who tries, but still refuses to take any action in the situation. Absolutely disgusting.Having to write a bad review because it seems like that's the only thing any of these kinds of places will respond to.
