Absolutely wonderful staff. Can't be thankful enough for their services. If you're able to donate, please check out their website for a list of important needs. AFS Insurance was able to make a nice donation last week and had a lot of fun doing it!

Does a wonderful job at not only helping animals in need find a home and a safe place to be in, but they also help the community. The Atietam Humane Society offers Spay/Neutering to help with pet overpopulation and rabies shots clinics.I play the Treat app game on my phone and sent treats to my Treat dog Homer who resides there (hope the old guy finds a good home soon), a really fun and feel God thing to do!

Kierstin(sp) went above and beyond in helping us adopt our new puppy. This Animal Shelter is 5 Star. Happy to see all the volunteers show up to walk the dogs. I only wish that I could adopt them all. Thank you Antietam Humane Society.

I adopted a senior black cat from here a couple weeks ago and he is the love of my life. He is all black with no teeth and seemed very hateful when there he bite me and hissed but now that he’s at home he lays on me purring extremely loud. Just have to give the old guys a chance. The reason I’m giving them 4 stars is because I found a stray and couldn’t keep it since I just adopted and didn’t want to stress the others out. I tried to bring the cat to the shelter and they told me they couldn’t take him and to drop him off where I found him. This cat was declawed and I found him eating poop because he can’t hunt without claws. It was really annoying and legally I had to drop him off at that shelter and no where else. It left me stressed and unsure what to do I don’t have the time to foster right now as I am a college student and I wasn’t sure if this cat had any desires which I didn’t want to spread to my other cats. Not sure who I talked to but it’s very annoying.

We saw a cat that had been hit by car and was in really, really bad shape. We called Antietam Humane Society and they said to bring the cat in and they would assess it. Unfortunately, he was too bad off and they humanely euthanized the cat to end its suffering. I'm thankful for this humane society for helping out, we couldn't leave the cat on the sidewalk to freeze after getting struck by a vehicle. There were so many super friendly cats running around. I'll definitely be coming back to get a kitty once we move and can finally have pets! Thanks AHS for the kind work that you do to care for animals.

Beware!!! Adopted a dog that said was good with other dogs, sweet, cuddley, etc.. Welk, dog viciously attacked our neighbors larger dog and caused over $1700 in injuries. That dog attacked like a fighting dog and ER Vet said samething due to area/type if injuries.

Antietam Humane Society is a no-kill shelter they take care of their adoptees as if it were their pets , they're walked , their groomed and taken care of . if no one adopts the animal then they will have a home at that location for the rest of its life! the people are very friendly they love their animals they do extensive background on adopted parents. This shelter is very clean and the volunteers here are very customer-oriented and love to take care of these pets I highly recommend visiting if not adopting!!! 😉😃😃

This animal shelter is AMAZING! Wonderful service, nice staff! We adopted 7 cats here! They are very amazing and nice and truly want these pets to find a good home! Got my first 2 kittens here, ones all grown up and has brought so much joy to our family! 100% would recommend! Also they are very understanding because we got a cat from them who would attack all of our other cats, sadly we had to return him but he was adopted to another family. If your looking to adopt a cat I would definitely recommend this shelter.

Excellent local shelter with a great staff that really cares about the animals in their care. I myself have found here the dog that acts just like me. A little too heavy and a little too inactive.Addition 6/3/23: Nani is doing great, she's still about the same weight but she's doing very well with me, her "Grandma" and her dog Shiloh. Loves van rides to the stores, etc. Playing with toys now and getting her treats.

The people seemed too overwhelmed to care if you were interested in adopting. After 2 weeks still never got any reply to my application which should have been "approved" in 3 days. We decided to use another rescue group to get our puppy. I don't recommend the Antietam humane society.

Wonderful place! Kind staff and volunteers. We have adopted 7 cats from this place and adoption is super easy. I would highly recommend this shelter for people who want to adopt a cat. (I have had no experience adopting a dog here) The place is very clean and the cats look happy!

My cat was taken to the shelter by my father who was unable to take care of her while I was away at college. I called the animal shelter back and they clearly said I could come in to pick up my cat. When I went to picked up my cat as soon as I got back in town, the people there said I had to put in an adoption form because my cat was sent to the adoption center. So I went home and sent in an adoption form and was DENIED.When I called in to ask about my denial, I spoke to the front office to a man who said I was denied because they did not want my cat returning to the same home, but I explained to him that I wanted to take my cat to my apartment at college which is far from my family home. The man said I could explain my situation to the director of the animal shelter but the director at that time was busy and said she would call me back. She never called me back so I called back and spoke to the Adoption Counselor who was disrespectful and made up excuses about why I couldn’t adopt my OWN cat back. She did not even bother to listen to my reasoning and story or show empathy for my situation.Someone like her running an animal shelter and with the title Counselor is really concerning. I’m baffled that they would rather have a cat stay at an animal shelter than with people who have taken care of her for more than eight years. If you have even an ounce of empathy for my situation, you should call me back and allow me to properly explain my situation and adopt my OWN cat back. We won’t hesitate to call our lawyer or take other means to be able to get our cat back.

Very friendly staff. Clean and all the potential adoptees well taken care of. Love the fact that you can go visit and look for your forever pet and not feel any pressure. I love the 3 that I recently adopted and they are doing great.

I love my dog that I rescued from them but I do not like how they missed several things due to lack of funding for testing . I understand that they’re donations only but giardia can be seen in a stool sample . My dog also tested positive for lyme’s disease which requires 4 weeks of doxycycline. This poor thing is going through it to be in our home for 3 weeks. I would not go back and recommend other rescues for people in the future.

No kill shelter doing great things to help our furry friends. Attended their per photo day with Santa. Staff were all great and very dedicated. I urge everyone to help out too in any way possible Any pet food, toys, cat litter, etc can be donated and used. We will be doing the same.

Application process was easy and efficient. Customer service was great. Wanted another dog family member and to help keep our current pup stimulated. Applied and received adoption approval same day. The next day they scheduled our current pup and I to come visit. Rep was very patient allowing me and our current dog to get used to the new dog. I was able to take him home same day. He’s a lot of work, but oh such a sweet and intelligent doggie. Gave three stars because staff couldn’t answer too many questions about the dog’s training level or behavioral habits despite him living there for approx. three months (is he a chewer, a jumper, is he potty trained, crate trained etc…), but the staff was forthcoming about what they didn’t know, which I also appreciate. He was very dirty, smelled pretty bad, felt greasy, and was in fact not potty trained. The amount of dirt that came off of him after washing him at home was noteworthy. Almost got it all off with one wash, but he needed another. He was in final recovery for mange (not their fault), and gave me the final round of meds to take with me, which was great. However, after a about 9 days of him having diarrhea and incessantly itching himself and ears, I took him to the vet. I took him to the vet close by to Puppy Paws…or something like that…great place, and was informed that he had double ear infections, a skin infection, and an intestinal infection even though he had been dewormed twice while living at AHS. Vet bill to get him squared away was costly. I could have taken him back to AHS for follow up care after diagnosis for free I think, but at that point I just wanted the pup to get some relief. Was pretty costly adoption between the adoption fee and the vet fee, but I guess that’s really on me for not pursuing follow-on care with AHS. I appreciate AHS for taking him in off the street, but I feel maybe he could have been better cared for. On the other hand, I don’t work there, or know the challenges AHS has to work around. Again, great customer service, minus detailed health assessment, and not being able to answer some more in-depth questions about an animal that had lived there for approximately three months.

They denied an application because my 3 month old puppy hasn’t been neutered yet but he was scheduled for it a month away. So much for trying to find a good home for a dog..don’t go here unless all your dogs (if you have multiple) are neutered.

Best shelter I have found around! The dogs are well taken care of and the staff is SO friendly and helpful. They really make rescuing a pleasurable and timely experience! I adopted a pitbull today and he is the sweetest thing ever! Many other shelters I looked into were very uptight, making the process so difficult it’s like they don’t want their dogs adopted.. not this one!! Other shelters were locked and required an appointment or reservation to even step foot in the building to see their dogs. I walked in this shelter the first time and was able to meet a dog immediately. Today my application was approved after a small pause and the process was so quick I took home my dog the same day!

This location has house cats, working cats, and sometimes kittens.Once I saw bunnies there. When I have visited, I have only seen larger dogs. A lot of Pit Bulls and/or Pit Mix.They have a fun activity for kids... become a Shelter Buddy! This is a volunteer program for children ages 4 - 15. The program has two goals– help students improve reading skills by reading out load to the animals and help the shelter animals feel more comfortable while becoming more socialized with people during their stay at the shelter. The staff is friendly. The facility seems clean. Visits with the animals is encouraged. Donations are welcome (check with staff for needs)

Amazing shelter. We got my sweet baby Dinah from them. Went in to just browse options, and ended up filling out an application for her that day. When we brought her home she did have worms, we took her back a few days later and they were extremely helpful to make sure she got the proper medication so she could get better very fast. She is the sweetest kitty. They take such phenomenal care of their animals, and are so welcoming & willing to help. I completely recommend supporting this shelter.

I took my friend here because he was interested in adopting a cat. He has a disability and spends most of his time at home. He wanted a companion and he did not want to buy from a breeder. The woman at the front desk was very kind and helpful when we found a cat he liked and did help us with filling out the application. She even attempted to help us with taking the cat home same-day.He was directed to speak with the adoption counselor whose office is by the front desk. I am not sure why she keeps her office door open. It gives the impression that she will actually deign to address the riffraff, which she evidently does not. She talked on the phone for 15 minutes and ignored him as he stood patiently near the doorway. When she hung up, she was rude, short, cut him off, and used a condescending tone with him when he asked about the adoption process. He was lead to believe that he could speak to her.The title "counselor" implies that she might speak to applicants or somehow aid in the adoption process, not hastily regurgitate bullet points to banish an applicant from her presence. They might want to re-evaluate and change the title to "Adoption Gatekeeper."He was emailed a canned denial letter with no explanation of why his application was denied and they never checked his references. How do I know? I was one of them and I never got a call.I should also mention that he is visibly disabled and walks with an assistive device (cane.) Can't help but speculate that his experience may have been different if he'd appeared able-bodied.Please re-evaluate how applicants are treated and be transparent about the process and reasons for denial if you want these animals to find homes. If your staff cannot treat people with respect and compassion, I can only wonder how the animals are treated when nobody's watching.

Let me start by saying there is very poor customer service (at least by the VERY brief phone call I had). I get that any trade in customer service these days is hard but if the customer is friendly, why are you not? It has completely rendered my decision to adopt here and that is sad. Your policy is your policy and I have no problem with that, but if you are going to be condescending what makes me want to continue with your establishment??? Just curious.....
