We loved our experience at Paws! After looking through the lengthy application process and realizing we couldn’t take a cat home the day we visited, we were reluctant to consider Paws for an adoption. After talking with the staff and meeting our young cat, we learned that they truly care about the animal’s best interest and are doing all of this for them. Paws helped us find our perfect cat and gave us all of the tools we needed to help him adjust to our home: cat condo (on loan), some of the food and litter he was used to, toys, treats and his own special blanket. The adoption was very affordable compared to getting a “free” kitten or cat from an ad, since Tripp came to us up to date on shots, other vet care and was neutered. We would recommend Paws Along the River to anyone looking for a new friend and companion animal!

We had a wonderful experience with Paws Along the River. We adopted Duke who has been a great addition to our family. I really like how thorough Paws is in their adoption process. It shows they care about the animals’ wellbeing. They were very honest about Duke’s health and background. They also gave Duke a great care package with toys, treats, and blanket when he came for his pet visit. The time they give you to decide on proceeding adoption after first meeting the pet and also the pet visit was great because it gives you time to make a good decision.

My husband and I were delighted with our entire experience at Paws Along the River. Karen, Pauline and the entire staff went above and beyond at every step of the way as we adopted two year old Border Collie, Odie. Their process is thorough and gave us high confidence as we moved toward full adoption. We were told Odie would be good with cats and kids and we quickly found that to be 100% accurate. Can’t say enough about Paws Along the River. We traveled quite a distance to adopt Odie and would do it again in a heartbeat. Definitely a 5 star experience from beginning to end.

We are very happy with our first experience with Paws. The interview process and meet and greet are similar to those experienced with past adoptions and give confidence to us that Paws wants to make sure their pets go to the right home. We did not expect them to delivery Duke to us on adoption day but they wanted to make sure everything went smooth showing that they go above and beyond to make sure the pets go to a good home. We would highly recommend Paws to friends and family for all future pet adoptions.

We adopted from Paws more than a couple months ago. We adopted two cats; Monty and Addie. They have settled in perfectly and I couldn't have asked for a easier and better pick then these two. Staff worked well with our questions and issues that arose.

We met our sweet boy Elwood at Paws Along the River Humane Society. They were very thorough in relating his history and personality and wanted to make sure he was a good fit for our family. We felt like we really knew his demeanor before taking him home. Their facility is very clean and well organized. You could tell that our dog was well cared for and had genuine affection for his handlers. There was a comfortable room with enough furniture for several people and plenty of room for us to visit comfortably and get to know him. We were given plenty of time to interact with him and ask questions. Both employees we worked with were pleasant, patient, and informative. There were several follow up phone calls and I felt that the organization was very supportive and helpful throughout the process of adopting our newest family member. We would highly recommend this Humane society and are thankful for their assistance in Elwood’s adoption.

After our Jack Russell, Oskar, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we never expected to find another one waiting for us at Paws Along the River! The amount of time everyone took to get to know us and for us to get to know Sheldon was exceptional! It shows how much they care for their animals! The conversations, the phone calls, the meet and greets, the walks and “foster time” it took to make sure we all were a right fit for one another, makes Paws Along the River one of the best shelters I’ve ever worked with! I can’t say enough about the entire staff and all the accommodations they made for us to make the adoption process a successful one. Also, Sheldon came home with all essential things he needed to have his first days at his “furever”home be the most comfortable! Thank you Paws Along the River for making our home complete again with the addition of Sheldon! We LOVE him so much! 🐾🖤

This shelter helped us find the perfect dog for us! They work to leash train and socialize their animals so they’ll be ready when an adoptive family comes along. They also do temperament testing on them and have a detailed owner application so they can find people that will mesh well with the animal. We are so grateful for all the support and advice we got from the staff. They even drove an hour to our house to drop our new dog off to make the transition smoother and easier. Highly recommend working with this shelter if you’re looking for your perfect pet.

Back in January, 2021 we started looking for a rescue dog. Our 13 year old male Chocolate lab had passed away in February, 2020. Originally we were looking at Brandee a two year old female chocolate lab. However, the ladies at the shelter felt she was not ready to adopt out. They suggested we look at Gunnar aka Riff. They felt he would be a good fit. Because of Covid our first visit was by zoom. We watched how they worked with him, how he interacted with other dogs and how he walked on leash. They gave us Gunnar's history. We could tell he was well cared for at the shelter All his shots were up to date. After the meeting we were very interested but had to wait until it was okay for an in house visit. On March 11, 2021 we were finally able to meet Gunnar in person. When we arrived at the shelter they took us into a room so we could meet Gunnar. Me and my husband were sitting on the couch, Gunnar came into the room, jumped on the couch and started to kiss us both. We were instantly in love. We were able to take Gunnar home but adoption was not final. We had to wait several weeks to make sure he was a good fit for us. The ladies called frequently to check on his progress. After several weeks we were able to make the adoption final. Gunnar is a barrel of energy, he loves when you chase him around the house, he loves to play with his dog cousins and he is so loving and so appreciative of his new home. The ladies made the process easy for us and if we decide to adopt again we would definitely check with them first.

I adopted my two dogs Hector and Dapper from PAWS. I started as a volunteer dog walker, I had retired and always was a animal lover and decided to take the classes. I fell in love with these two boys and adopted them. My experience as a volunteer/adopter and dog walker has been positive and rewarding. It is so rewarding to volunteer. I also help out at the Thrift store if needed, which benefits the animals at PAWS.

We adopted Aida(Formerly Sabrina) from Paws Along the River in March of this year. The whole experience was great. So many of the rescues that we have reached out to before never return our calls or emails. Paws was so quick to answer all my questions about her and made sure to ask us a lot of questions too to make sure she was a good fit for our family. The adoption process was awesome too, we had two weeks to make sure that she was a good fit for our family before we had to finalize the adoption which is something I had never seen before. The Paws staff checked in with us regularly during the trial to make sure all was going well. I would definitely recommend Paws to anyone looking to adopt. I know rescues try to do their best, but sometimes they make it so hard to adopt. Aida is one of the family now and we have Paws to thank for that!

The owner is a real piece of work. Will go to the court house and cry to court collections about how the shelter is struggling financially. That sounds like a YOU problem. Maybe if you started allowing people to actually adopt animals out, you wouldn’t be struggling financially. It’s mind blowing that hardly anyone possesses problem solving skills anymore now a days. It’s not anyone’s responsibility but your own to make sure that if you are struggling financially that you resolve your financial struggles. The way the owner acted made it seem as if she just runs the shelter and is in it for the money, not the animals best interest. Inquiring about how she could get people fined with more restitution, who have had animals seized by the police when the police arrested them. My eyes have been opened wide as to why she has some of the most ridiculous requirements when it comes to adopting a pet from HER shelter and it’s because she’s MONEY hungry, just like 75% of the population of Warren. Do Better Kim.

I had an outstanding adoption experience at PAWS. Their careful and patient attention in matching me with Emma (aka Sasha) resulted in the perfect match for me. Karen and Michelle were professional, kind, thorough, always available and go the extra mile .. (quite literally, as Karen drove 2 hours to deliver my new best friend. ) I want to thank PAWS for its excellent service and commitment.

I adopted from Paws Along the River in October. The process was fantastic. They made sure that the animal I had chosen would be a good companion for me and my family. I didn’t mind the adoption process being lengthy because their success rate of placement is so high. This is an indicator of a good quality program. My dog and I have bonded so well and neither of us can imagine life without the other. Keep up the good work !

These seem like well meaning folks, my only criticism is that their advice (your dog will run away if you call it, etc, after 36h missing) led me to spend a few days trying to capture a coyote on trail camera. My dog was actually a few miles away it turned out, and came right up when she heard my voice.I'm not saying this behavior isn't true for some dogs, but for many I have read now that it takes longer than 36 hours -- and I should have been able to deduce my dog would likely take longer because of some personality traits. But the person on the phone said it with such conviction, and I was a little too worried to think clearly about it. (But again I'm sure they meant the best, I'm mostly leaving this review in the hopes they'll update their advice)

I have adopted two dogs from PAWS along the river. They made sure that the animal I chose each time would be a good fit. The week-long visit prior to finalizing the adoption is crucial in ensuring a good match is being made. They are honest and share as much of the animals history as possible so there are no surprises. I will always recommend PAWS and will continue to adopt in the future.

I went in 3 weeks ago looking to adopt a cat! The staff were super helpful and caring. They sat me down in the cat room and let out some cats they thought would be a good fit. That’s where I met Benny my newly adopted cat! We sat down and filled out some paperwork and I took him home for his in home trial. They called to check up numerous times to see if I had any problems or questions and they always had answers to the questions I had. The staff there is highly educated and extremely helpful. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to adopt any pet.

What an exemplary shelter and staff! My husband and I live in Erie PA and went to Paws Along the River to see about adopting a dog. Because of COVID we needed an appointment. When we got there we were instantly greeted by a couple of the staff members whose personalities showed how much they enjoy working at PATR. Karen and Michelle assisted us in adopting a dog. They were patient and kind and when they would bring the dogs in to meet us you could feel the dedication and love they have for the animals. We met 5 dogs while we were there - and they were all well taken care of and loving dogs. When we finally made our decision we could not adopt her right then because they want to give you some time to think about it. "Lucy" our new adopted dog was brought to us from Warren 3 days later with food, leash and toys, for a 15 day "free trial". It is very important for them to place a pet to a compatible loving home. Yes, it may take time to adopt your new family member but everything is done with such care and love for the animals to ensure they find their forever homes.

I adopted my cat, Tuna (formerly Lydia), from Paws Along The River about a month ago. Their adoption process is well thought out and thorough - They want to find the best possible forever home for their critters and the love and attention with which they go about their mission is second to none. I can't thank them enough for the work they do and for my wonderful, furry, sweet companion. If you want to find the perfect best friend for you or for your family, give them a shout and put them to work. You won't be disappointed!

I went in to help foster and adopt. But was met with rude lady running this place.Bella was a Blue Heeler. I was interested in.. I put in paperwork and waited... This poor puppy was in that shelter way longer then a animal should be.. 2 months after i fill that information out and waited.. I went back. Just to see that poor pup there still.. The lady running it told me she pick the owner... Not tge animal...Well as experience animal owner.. I know thats not a goid thing...Took me a year. To find the perfect pet that chose me....I will never support a place that has done this to so many people..

Holy cow! This place is intense! We went to try and adopt a kitten but the process is pretty lengthy. We also wanted a kitten that could grow with our daughter but really got the impression they were going to try and dissuade from what we wanted. We were ok with going through the process but when asking about the time frame they were just super vague and explained the process. "Well you'll need to make an appointment to visit with potential pets". Ok, but what is the wait like for that? "It's a process and takes time". Like a week or two, month or two? They just couldn't give any reliable type of time frame. We likely will not go back or otherwise support this place in any manner while the lady running it is still in place.
