Ordered some shoes online from this store. I found these shoes while on vacation in NYC but I didn’t want to pack them into my bag and fly them home. Once I got home I couldn’t find these specific shoes locally in Colorado. I was a bit hesitant because some times you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into with online purchases. But I decided to order any way, when checking out I made a mistake with my address and they were quick to fix it, fast to ship, and they had such wonderful customer service.

This place is awesome. If you're into hiking and camping trips, Appalacian outdoors has everything you will ever need. Only top quality products that last. They also have high-quality boots and shoes. Even dried foods for long camping trips or survival prep.

Went in for climbing shoes and couldn't quite decide on a shoe. So the woman there assured me I could take them and try them, but would have to bring them back within thirty days with the box if they don't work.Didn't love them after ~2-3 uses so we went back to return. The manager there said they don't accept used shoes for return.Kind of frustrating since I only bought them with the employee's guarantee I could return them and then am out $100 with a pair of shoes I don't really like.All this to say, don't plan on returning climbing shoes.

I love browsing the skiing and climbing gear here. Cool to have a proper outdoor outfitter in a town like state college. I’ve had great experiences with skis and ski tuning. And I got some Asolo Fugitive boots here in 2016 and they are the best boots I’ve ever owned. After more miles than I can count I’m finally retiring them. Always quality gear and quality service.

Great prices, very friendly service. Bought skis here a few months ago. The guy I talked to helped me pick out the right gear for someone with my skill level and made sure I got everything I needed. Plus they gave me a bundle deal so I got skis, bindings (with free installation with the bundle), boots, Poles, and a helmet, and all great quality products, for just under $1000 after taxes. That's an amazing price for what I got

ATTENTION SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS. If you own your own equipment DO NOT GO HERE. This is a good place for most anything outdoors gear, but it is not a ski/snowboard shop and you may be utterly disappointed, like I, to find your gear mishandled or mismanaged by regrettably naive technicians. If you are renting equipment I’m sure they will be fine; it is what they appear to be optimized to handle.They screwed up binding mounts not once, not twice, but THREE times in three consecutive years for my brother and I. We brought in our limited edition J skis to get mounted in their shop. The first mistake in 2020 they mis-mounted the boot to binding size, thankfully it was only a few mm’s off so they didn’t have to drill new holes. But the second time the tech must’ve had vertigo because the right binding was noticeably crooked on the ski, needing a new mount. Finally, they we’re instructed to mount the last pair of skis (a hand made limited edition of 50 by the way) on center, and they mounted it 4cm back because “that was the factory suggested.” We know that’s the suggested, but people, especially advanced skiers, mount at different positions all the time per their needs. Now these skis will have permanent holes in the wrong spot running straight to the core, should we ever get them remounted in the originally intended place. To be clear, if you don’t understand why this is substantial, then this review probably doesn’t pertain to you.How does the saying go? fool me once...

Bought some snowboard boots here years ago. Had some questions on the manufacturer warranty, and they were quick to respond and provide recommendations - and even the original receipt which I had long lost. Highly recommend based on their customer service, quality, and selection.

Beautiful store packed with name brand outdoor clothing. The products are mostly higher end performance garments but there’s something here for everyone. I was able to get the perfect shoes after looking at numerous shoe stores. Colton listened to what I was looking for and brought me a pair to try. I’m in love with these shoes and will never go to state college without stopping here.

Really great experience buying running shoes. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They go above and beyond to make sure they find you the correct fit. Prices are very reasonable in comparison to offers out there plus includes the full service. If you need a reliable place to buy athletic shoes from, this is the place!

Staff is super friendly! Usually multiple staff members greet you as you walk in. They are very knowledgeable of their products and offer great suggestions to find just what you need for hiking, camping, skiing, etc.I love shopping here because I trust the staff and their knowledge. They also rent certain things out so you don't always have to buy something brand new to go on an adventure.You can probably get some of their products elsewhere for cheaper, but it's worth spending a few extra bucks on the local economy!

At a recent visit, the associates took extra time to work with me to help choose a backpack. They are very knowledgeable and worked with me to choose the right size and then took time to make sure the fit was right and I knew how to use it. All associates are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful every time I shop there. And the prices are right in line with what I see on other websites. I am so happy the store is close enough to visit in person. Thanks for such awesome customer service.

This was the best customer service I've ever had. The staff actually listened to what I liked/disliked about my old gear and recommended the perfect stuff. (And it wasn't to upsell me). I dealt with three different guys and they were all amazing. They also took the time to answer questions about local trails and such. The store is expensive, but the service definitely makes it worth it.

I am very impressed with this company. The shipment arrived on time and was very well packaged to ensure the items were not damaged in transit. Not every company goes above and beyond to make sure items are packed correctly for shipment. I know it takes extra time and there is an added cost for the additional packaging. The fact that this company/shipping department made this added effort is greatly appreciated and I will definitely place more orders with them in the future.

They have 2 sales a year where you can save really big but your discount is determined by drawing a poker chip out of a bag (color determines discount).The staff are very patient and are actual outdoor types who can really help you decide what's best for you.

Used to love this place—awesome gear and some nice people. But, I’ve had some repeated bad experiences here recently. They ordered me the wrong parts for ski boots and gave me quite a bit of misinformation (I think they’re just not super educated on gear). The real thing that has me frustrated is their return policy: if you’re planning on buying gear here, just know that you can’t return it if you’ve tried it and decide it doesn’t fit or doesn’t work (as opposed to ANY other outdoor retailer , like REI which will take returns up to a YEAR after you buy it if you’re dissatisfied). I bought Blundstones here last week (a hefty $200) and after wearing them once, decided they didn’t fit and brought them back to get the next size up. Not only were all of their employees and managers absurdly rude to me, they told me I couldn’t return them because I’d worn them outside (a policy NOBODY told me about when I bought the boots) and suggested I buy the next size up and try to sell my current ones on EBay. Not sure who would go $400 in the hole for some boots, but they’ve got me regretting ever supporting them and wishing I’d bought Blundstones from ~any~ other retailer, as they are the only outdoor company I’ve ever heard of with such a stingy return policy. I live in Utah and was looking everywhere (in store and online) for a particular color sweater. Couldn't find it anywhere and then in my searching I saw Appalachian Outdoors had it on their website. I immediately ordered it and received a call asking about the order to insure there was no fraud (having an account different from my address location i Utah). I greatly appreciately the fact that they did this and I received the order in 48 hours. Such fast service and great customer service! Wish I knew about this place when I actually lived in PA. Definitely support local shops!

I am moving out of State College soon and this store is one of things I'll miss the most. Friendly, knowledgable staff with great products, wide variety, and a great relationship with the community. First Fridays here are the best, and they have interesting speakers and shoe demo events on a pretty regular basis. My go-to for hiking boots, trail running shoes, outdoor apparel, maps, camping equipment, trail food, ski gear, backpacks...I am always looking for an excuse to wander in.
