It is recommended that you schedule an appointment before stopping in to visit an animal. I did not know this at the time. But we were able to visit the dog we wanted and ultimately ended up adopting him.I appreciate them providing his medical records as well as papers with instructions to help get him settled into the new home. They sent out emails containing various resources.I'm also thankful they scheduled an in home visit to teach us what our pup knows.Remember to adopt before you shop! ❤️

Tried to adopt a puppy from here. We met the pup and had a great connection. We answered more questions in person after filling out an exhaustive list of questions on the application. Told it would be a few days to hear if we were approved for adoption, but it took almost 2 weeks. Finally got someone on the phone and they told us we were denied the adoption and when I asked why, they told me "for several reasons" that they wouldn't disclose when I point blank asked why we were denied. Places like this are why people go to breeders instead of shelters. If you're not kid free, in a home with a fully fenced yard, have meticulous vet records, and meet their personal standards, don't even bother trying to adopt from here.

Unfortunately, we did not have a positive experience with BCHS. We decided to attend BCHS’s open house, as advertised on their social media as “come play with animals, meet staff and volunteers, and learn about what BCHS has to offer the community.” After meticulously reviewing BCHS’s urgently needed items donation list, and spending over $150 at Petco before attending, we were greeted positively at first, upon entrance. That was of course as we were holding donation items in our hands. After giving our items to the staff, we were encouraged to have our picture taken so that “others would be encouraged to donate.” Once this was done, we asked if we could visit with any of the dogs, which we were told would be “difficult.” After what felt like having to pull the manager’s arm, we were told we could visit with one dog, but had difficulty finding any staff interested in helping us, as they were more interested in interacting with one another. Once placed in a visiting room, we were greeted by a different staff member who was very rude and short with us, and refused to show us the dogs we were interested in seeing. A different employee who was very polite and professional ended up showing us a dog, but the staff’s overall lack of appreciation and consideration was very disappointing, and not what we expected to find at BCHS’s open house. If you are planning on making a donation here, I would suggest considering other options before going to BCHS.

Not happy with this place. After waiting over month with approval process and it was some issue with their stuff . Was everything good with everything, till time came pick up our cat. Vell, we thought it was our already. And no reason to decline our application. We had cat before, we treated her like family member. Very-very disappointed. They shouldn't kept our hopes for so long time.

My son and I adopted our Putbull Tank from the Butler County Humane society. They were very thorough in their process. Butler County Humane society dotted every i and crossed every T in their process to make sure their animals are going to a excellent home. There were interviews with the staff and meetings with the pets to make sure we had a pet that was right for us.The atmosphere was very nice and the shelters the pets are kept in are amazingly clean. The staff were very professional and helpful and went out of their way to help me with anything i needed or questions i needed answered. Members of the staff offered to come to my house to help Tank get adjusted. They went well out of their way to make everyone comfortable. We received a medical summary report with our pet and all the bloodwork was ran and any issues were resolved and our Tank was given a clean bill of health. I recommend anyone looking to adopt cats, dogs, lions, tigers, bears and crocodiles go to the Butler County humane society. Our Dog Tank is one of the family and has adjusted well and we are all happy with our adoption.

This place of really nice. They seem to care who they adopt to you. They make you fill out an application for adoption with references so they can call and check you out. They give you the best info on they animal your thinking of adopting.

Big sad day. Had to give up a kitty I was hoping to keep. They were very kind, compassionate and understanding. Even tho they had limited space they made room for my little Wednesday. Tho I miss her terribly I know she's in good hands and they never mind that I call for updates.DON'T SHOP, ADOPT!

I was highly disappointed in this establishment today. Last Sunday we visited with hopes of meeting a dog to adopt. You're not allowed to walk through the kennels due to giving the dogs extra anxiety, totally understandable! They had a wonderful book to look through and decide from the description if the pet is good for your family, again great! We found one in the book that we like named Ranger. He fit perfectly what we were looking for but the age for children said 10+. Our daughter is only 5 so OF COURSE I asked about it. The girls at the front desk were absolutely wonderful and I can only say good things about them! They kindly called out a tech to give us more information on Ranger. As we talked to the tech, he informed us the age was set at 10+ because Ranger was energetic and could knock over a smaller child(our daughter was used to this and knows how to handle herself around dogs being that she grew up with an energetic Aussie mix that we lost due to old age in August)but said he was not aggressive and scheduling a meeting with him would be absolutely fine. We scheduled the meeting for a week later. So today we were all SOOO excited to go meet Ranger. We arrive and the girl goes back to get him and comes out and tells us we actually can't meet him because of us having a small child and he's apparently aggressive if his feet are touched. (Again, my daughter is very aware you never touch a dog's feet regardless if they're "okay with it" or not.) I understand taking the precautions, but I even called the day before to confirm everything was still good for us to meet and they said yes. They could have told us the information then. They let us get our hopes up and we were so let down. Again, I understand the precautions but I just wish we wouldn't have went through everything we did and have it end like this. Very poor and mixed communication.

left two voicemails about cat adoption and strays; nobody ever called me back. waited 3-4 days in between calls, and it has been another 3 days with no response. my voicemail also indicated i was in dire need of contact even if they weren’t able to assist me directly.

This facility has such a caring staff that really goes above and beyond for the animals. If anyone is looking to possibly add a new member to the family I would definitely recommend checking out who they have available on the website, or calling to speak with staff about a good time to come in and meet some of the fur babies. The staff knows their personalities very well and will be able to guide you to find the perfect new addition or additions!!

I’ve have been saving and adopting cats for over 50 years. I filled out an application for a cat at BC Humane. Two weeks later they finally called my references. Then two days later I had to call them again, to get status. They tell me they couldn’t verify my address, even though they have a picture of my drivers license and also, couldn’t find records at my veterinarian. I find their lack of effort, time taken and attitude unprofessional

Someone found my cat and took it to the Humane Society. I can NOT get him back, without going through the whole process of applying, (possibly) getting approved to take my OWN cat home, and paying an adoption fee. For my OWN cat. He is chipped to me and everything. But because a random "someone" took my cat there, they claim that THEY now own him.

I am very heartbroken I wanted to take cupcake home with us the other day. We drove an hour and a half a way to meet her. I cried the whole way home because I just fell in love with the pup. An I couldn’t bring her home because they said my son had to be there once we had already been there. I have a broken wrist so I have to now wait to see if I can get someone to drive me another hour and a half there. I really didn’t think trying to give a dog a good home would be so difficult. I’m hoping they’ll call and say we can bring her home and I’ll make sure my son is with me.

I went for a visit with the intent to adopt a new kitty after my cat of 18yrs died. I filled out the application and named the cat I was interested in adopting. I have never heard from them. This was 2 months ago.I ended up getting a 3 yr.old cat from the Animal friends. They were very happy to have me adopt from them. What is Butler Humane Society's problem?

I mistakenly wrote this review after only visiting the shelter. I stand by that they’re the cleanest shelter I’ve ever been in, but their customer service could do better. The adoption process is very convoluted and not at all transparent. I get that they’re run by volunteer staff, but it should not take over a week to know if you’re approved or not. We fell in love with a kitten, but it took over a week to hear if we had been approved after being told it would be a few days, and we also asked if she was fixed before putting in our application only to learn that she wasn’t fixed yet and we would have to wait longer to bring her home.Kittenhood is fleeting and precious, and for a shelter to hold that time hostage and to have such a slow process makes me feel deeply uncomfortable giving them any money to their practice. I feel like I was going to be scammed due to how inconsistent the process is.

I became a forever foster parent, I love my cat, the reason I did this was because he had special needs that I could not afford. However over the last few years I have tried to support him on my own. I just resently tried to pick up litter and was told it was only available the last Thursday of the month 10am-1pm I work, there is no way I can pick up the litter I’m really disappointed!

Was greeted by a sign on the door stating that you were not permitted to visit the dogs due to stress but you could look at pictures on the wall? You can not interact with them to see if they are a good fit by simply looking at a picture.I asked to look at the cats and was told there was someone in there already, ok.. we will waitThe second girl at the desk chimed in and rudely stated that we would not be permitted to see them today as they would be fed from 2 to 3 and it is time-consuming. Your open till 5, we can come back and I was told, I don't think so.This was a completely unprovoked situation. There was no reason for being met with this attitude or being turned away. You always hear adopt do not shop. But when you stop to adopt this is what your met with. I read the reviews on Google having a 4.7 so we drove the 50 miles, big mistake!

We adopted Panther a few weeks ago. My husband and I went there thinking we would adopt a small newborn kitten. At that time they didn’t have any so we looked at older kittens. The girl did her best to pick a couple of kittens.. We were given plenty of time to sit and play with a couple. We picked Thunder. She is the best kitten I have ever had. The people there are kind and very thoughtful. The kitten had it’s shots, was spayed and chipped. We had to do nothing to her but love her. Thank You so much.

Exceptionally wonderful staff. There is a stray cat in out area that we have taken to caring for and has become part of our family. He lost his collar with out numbers on it and someone took him to the humane society since they did not know where he was from. We saw his picture that had been shared from their page and they were just wonderful in the process of reclaiming him. They took excellent care of him and they treat all of their animals amazingly. I highly recommend adopting from them and helping them in anyway you can!

We got our dog here, and he has been wonderful. The staff and his personal trainer warned us of behavioral issues and now going on 3 months we have seen very little of these! They worked hard on training him, and he has been a great fit for us. Very kind and helpful to us every time we went to visit.
