The staff is always very friendly and they seem to do their best. I do wish their actual animal husbandry was better, especially the reptiles and hermit crabs. Purple pincher hermit crabs need high humidity (they have gills!) and both salt and fresh water in which they can fully submerge as well as deep substrate for burrowing and molting. Leopard geckos are strict insectivores and cannot eat greens.Otherwise, it's a nice little urban pet shop with a much wider variety of pet goods than any of the big brands in the area.

We adopted one of our dogs through PetLand and used their grooming services when we lived in Pittsburgh. We moved out of state, but our dog was recently in Pittsburgh with our son and got into a bunch of burrs. Stephanie not only agreed to help, but she stayed after her shift to see him the same day it happened. Both my son and dog were VERY appreciative of her care and compassion!

Took my Samoyed (a sled dog) Lacey in to be groomed a few days ago (it’s winter). Asked for her to be washed and some of the knots cut out. When I picked her up, she was shaved down to about half an inch of fur! I didn’t recognize her as the same dog! She started with fur thick and deep enough that it was at least 6 inches long, if not longer! It was longer than my hand. She’s a double coated dog, so this was literally one of the worst possible things to do for her coat. It could cause permanent damage and it’s the middle of winter for Christ’s sake! What about a wash and trimming some knots implied a shave in winter?! Never take your dog to be groomed here!

Overpriced, neglected reptiles, saw a dead anole, leopard gecko tanks not clean, hurt white line gecko, hurt leopard gecko, gecko gasping on dirty water, and poor customer service. Don't support this business. You're better off purchasing from the other pet store or online.

I bought a dog there a year and a half ago or so.. for one we were told she was spade and she wasn't (which is also our fault for not reading paperwork) so once we got that done they did reimburse us for how much it was so that was nice. Recently I had a baby who developed allergies extremely early and have had to look for a new home. I contacted them and they said they could take up to around 45 lbs that I just had to wait till they had an open spot. For 3 months I've been banking on this since no shelter will take any rescues right now and we origonally got her from them. I made them aware of our situation many times and how serious it was. they assured me once they had an opening i could bring her. here I call today to see if they had an open spot for her and they now inform me that they can't accept any pups over 30/35lbs and there's not enough staff to do it. The staff was incredibly nice, but to drag someone on as their only hope for 3 months isn't okay. I called extremely often to check in and spoke with both people in charge of that several times and again, both nice but both led me on saying once they have an open spot it would work. better communication would help with not only eachother but customers as well to avoid things like this happening.

I love this store, the staff is very knowledgeable and provide great customer service... they always greet timmy by name when he comes in for his favorite doggie food and treats 😋...we have been loyal customers since 2010FYI, okay the prices may be a wee bit high but so is everything else such as gas, food, and living expenses.

Really clean. Had a big selection of toys. I let my dog(Bella) choose her own. Had 4 big rows to choose from. Staff is nice. No waiting around. Bella loves her bear!

They have a large variety of pet supplies, everything from treats, leashes and harnesses, to over the counter medicines and sprays. I always enjoy looking at the fish.

Don't come here for fish. The man in the fish area has zero customer service skills. Looked through all the tanks twice. Had a few questions but was pretty sure what I wanted. He was "waiting" on another customer who I heard clearly say multiple times he had no room in his tank and wouldn't be able to get anything for at least 2 months. The man literally sees me looking for someone to help me, doesn't say anything. Walked back to fish area, he's still chatting it up and the guy still isn't purchasing anything. So I ask the cashier for help and she directs back me to the man, who doesn't even turn and acknowledge me. As I turn to leave the other "customer" tells him he can wait on me. But I was done at that point. The two ladies working seemed very personable but seeing as that was my first and last time in the store, I'm giving 1 star. Seriously, just acknowledge customers, it's customer service 101. I didn't need to be waited on right away, would just be nice to know if I'll ever receive assistance.

Although there is great customer service, some of the animals there aren't getting the proper care they need. I had found an underweight gecko at the store. They did inform me that it wasn't eating but the sand that they used as substance might be the reason why since it can causes impaction

I wish i was able to give 0 stars. This place is just disgusting. I was sold a broken bulb for my fish tank i went in the store the next day to exchange it with my receipt and when i told the lady that it was broke she looked over to her coworker as if i was lying about buying it broke. She went in the back for about 5-10 minutes to see if it can be exchanged and she told me that she could not exchange it but sell me a new bulb for half off because they would not have sold me a broken bulb. Mind you no one checked the item before the purchase was made me nor the employee to know if it was broke. After leaving i spoke with the manager Eric over the phone and he was very hostile cutting me off in the middle of me explaining the situation basically calling me a liar about the bulb being broke. Would not recommend this place at all.

Don't support this place. Their animals are not healthy, their supplies are overpriced, their frozen rat/mouse feeders are expensive and super poor quality. The reptiles are overpriced and look unhealthy. They sometimes have really beautiful fish, but their Betta fish are usually half dead. If you are a part of a reptile rescue, then I would check this place out. Someone needs to do something about this.

DO NOT GO HERE!! We bought 2 fish from this establishment and one had ick ( which is a parasitic disease ) and when we called about it the owner of the store said non of the fish in there tanks had it so our fish ( that we bought that day ) had some how got it and we called about getting the medicine to treat our sick fish they said they would give us a discount and they did not give us a discount, then on top of that i looked a the fish tank again when i went in a few days later one of the fish that was in the same tank as ours was absolutely covered in ick sores the fish was not getting any treatment and most likely died because this excuse for a store did not wanna treat the poor thing.

Staff is very Kind and friendlyThe two beagles in the front really need rehabilitation as far anxiety they are nervous and scared they are brothers and are to be togetherThey need a place they feel safe and cared for something cozy about thats their own personal space and a place to roamI'm sure their anxiety would change if they were RespectedAnd had more one on one timeThey seem as though they may make good home dogs but maybe not to many city outings yet a backyard to playThe 5 puppy litter seem very laid back and sleepy they are adorable yet they slept the entire time I was there so I don't really knowThey have all kinds of cool stuff for animals and the best variety of dog food I have ever seenAlso my Favorite part is the dogged they named BoxxI asked him what his name is and he told me his name is JackAnd he awesome he's pretty active and seems really trainable I like his friendly playful personalityHe's so sweet I hope he gets a bigger place soon they all definitely need upgrades so I'll be prayingOne day I hope we can make a community Doggie MansionThat the Dogs like lol so they can be with their families

Something about this place doesn't feel right whatsoever. When my partner and I went we found several puppies that we were interested in adopting. When we asked about the price we were told it would be 700 dollars. We were dumbstruck. Unless you are trying to turn a profit there is absolutely no reason it should be so much. It makes me feel as though they aren't being completely honest about being a rescue.

Caring owners who have established their own non profit pet rescue. Always helpful and kind. Some petlands have a bad reputation but they are individually owned and this one is great! They really do care about animals.

I go here often for my aquarium needs for the last 8-10 years. I also find quality noms for the kitty! Great place for treats and toys and gifts for your furry, scaley, feathery friends! Give them a chance and see for yourself :)

I bought supplies for a chinchilla a few weeks ago and had to return it. The manager wouldn’t give me my money back because “the cage clearly was used.” I tried explaining to him that I have a cat that was laying on top of the cage but he still wouldn’t give me money back.

I go there to see what they have to offer sometimes. The dogs seem pretty nice for pups, but a little expensive for basically mutts. Everything is mixed, which is cool, but you can go and get a rescue dog for cheaper. You do get more variety at Petland, though.

Definitely not the same when I got my first puppy. The owner's changed and the staff is different as well. The prices were $$$ but at least the owner was willing to negotiate! I got a reasonable deal. But now the price for a puppy at petland is $$$$$. No kidding! It is totally outrageous, ridiculous!! But I got a really beautiful puppy that I fell in love with! The staff was nice. But staff previous from the change over were super nice! And this time around they didn't have all the paperwork! And they weren't able to answer questions I had about the parents of the puppy! It all was very odd an totally different experience this time around! Something about the whole ordeal was off! Try not to go in,if you love animals, you won't leave empty handed!

Everyone is helpful and always help me make the best decisions for my dog.The animals they have for adoption are well cared for, and have my own vet take care of them.This is an excellent way to let the public have access to puppies etc. who want to visit with the animals, hold them under supervision, and make a decision.It certainly deserves a 5 star rating.

Extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Even on a busy night, we had great interactions with almost every employee and were given plenty of oportunity to ask questions. Their pets seemed happy and healthy and the bird we bought has been a great addition to our home. I only reccomend stores I would return to, and this one of them!

Great place to buy all your animal care needs. Fish department guy Ron knows his stuff. The quality of pet fish is outstanding. Only place left in Pittsburgh where you can trade your fish in if your fish either becomes to big or don't get along with your other fish well.

First of all, I have to admit that I also work at this store, so I will admit that I may be somewhat biased toward the positive. But I have also worked with these same individuals when they still carried pure breed or designer dogs. The owners are wonderful people who take every part of the business seriously, especially the care of the animals. We only have dogs and cats from various shelters and rescues. That's why we not only very seldom have pure breed dogs, most of the time we don't know the breeds that make up the dogs we do have. But we can tell you that for whatever reason, they ended up at a shelter where they may have received only the most basic care- food, water and kennel cleaned once a day sometimes. No, it's not the ideal situation for the dogs, which is what most people are most concerned about, but there are things that everyone who complains can do to help us with finding these dogs homes. Just ask any associate. We are always accepting donations of products that the shelters can use to help care for the animals. This decreases the money they have to spend on products and can put into expanding care of the dogs, etc. Some of our employees have even left jobs where they made more money, had better benefits, or just didn't have to spend every morning doing something like cleaning up animal feces, to work here. So, instead of lumping all Petlands together, why don't you come and visit us. You can even specifically come and ask for me- I will gladly answer any questions you may have.
