The best beer selection in all of Mount Washington... also the best hot dogs in Pittsburgh along with chicken fingers and poppers and all that good stuff. Although we have to wait till the whole covid-19 is over to start cooking again

Grabbed lunch atop Mt. Washington in Pittsburgh, PA.Dogs were above average! I had the ‘Golden Retriever’ which was “Chicago style”.Beer selection was very good. Craft beers on tap.Prices were very good (at least to my “Detroit” taste) two dogs and a beer for $14.Service was friendly. The dogs took awhile. Atmosphere was non-chains, which is a good thing.

This store just sold me expired beer with an expiration date of February 2023 on the bottle and today’s date is August 8, 2023. When I told them they sold me expired beer, they rejected accountability and they said to me “that’s your problem.” Eventually, they came around to let me exchange the bad Dos Equis six pack for a fresh Bud Light six pack, but then proceeded to tell me to “get out” of the store. They were definitely embarrassed. Don’t sell bad beer and you won’t get embarrassed.

*Edit - See Below*Great bottled beer selection! I think they have like 200+ options. Draft selection rotates seasonally & is also pretty substantial & top-notch.They've recently (2016/2017) expanded their food menu & I'd give them a solid 4 Stars on their food. Personal, I'm not a hot dog fan, but I like pretty much everything else on their menu.I can't give an overall 4.5 with the current Star System, but, if I could, I would. Great spot. Highly recommended.*2018 Update*I don't know what happened to this place since the new ownership took over but it has gone downhill, big time.Other than the employees are occasionally friendly, there isn't many positive things I can say about Packs & Dogs now.Prices have gone up & quality has gone down, in bith the food and beverage departments.I used to go there frequently but now it is a depressing ghost town & not worth the visit.I'm really sad to see how bad it's gotten. I hope things change soon.

They have an excellent beer and craft beer selection, likely the best in the city. If you are a beer aficionado, this is a great place.Food service is weak. There is a great diner and two good restaurants that are superior in food in the immediate area. They deliver. But so does the diner and another restaurant. My experience with dekivery is it has usually been cold. Plus there are much better "dogs and subs you can find in Pittsburgh. Plus, all the way around I find them to be more expensive.

(Edit) Loved it as in USED TO love it. I used to love their burgers! Cold Fresh and crisp toppings on a lightly toasted bun! And a pretty descent sized variety of beer. this one used to have a great team of employees, relaxed and roomy atmosphere and outdoor seating for smokers. There is another location in Edgewood ..perhaps youll have better luck there

I went to this place at noon, when it opened, for lunch. It was dark and beer boxes were all over the place. I went to place an order and the attendant stated that "we're not cooking right now". OK. Then he sees my gift card that a friend paid for and gave me when he moved and said "we don't accept those anymore." As the gift card had no expiration date and a valid receipt, I said "what?" He repeated that they didn't accept the gift card. I would have raised a stink, but since I really didn't want to eat there (dark with boxes everywhere isn't my ideal decor) and I don't live in the area, I just walked out. I don't think highly of establishments that sell gift cards with their logo on it, then don't honor them. It's basically stealing. Never before and never again.

Absolutely terrible. I guess there are new owners and its obvious they are clueless and the quality has gone way downhill. Went there on a Saturday night after a Penguins game and there was not a single sole in the place. It used to be very busy on Saturday nights, VERY busy. The service was unfriendly and slow. There was something creepy weird playing on the TVs, when we asked them to put something better on, like ESPN, or anything recognizable, they were clueless. No music playing. Horrible atmosphere. Beer selection used to be great, now its terrible.I used to love the place, but not now. I wont be back. Sad, just sad.

This place has changed for the worse since new ownership took over at the beginning of this year. The food quality and portion sizes have decreased, while the prices have stayed the same. The kitchen just closes at night whenever they decide to do so. The bar patrons usually are just a collection of guys who know the workers and are just hanging out, distracting the workers from doing anything productive like take care of the other patrons. The bartenders spend most of their time just texting behind the bar.Worst of all, there is usually only 1 person working at any given time, to man the grill/fryer, cash register, and bar. It just doesn’t work. This has been the case the last 5 times I have visited. This creates unreasonable wait times anytime there’s more than 4-5 people in there.Additionally, on several occasions, I have seen the staff automatically charge patrons a 20% gratuity, even when purchasing beer to go. I don't think the customers are aware of this, but I've heard other personal accounts of this happening.

Packs and dogs used to be my go-to spot for a beer or food delivery. The past few months I've tried calling to order but was unable to get through to anyone. Tonight I stopped for a drink and meal and to dig into why their phones were not working. After asking our server what had happened with the delivery and phones, I was informed that they no longer answer phones because too many customers cancel orders. This seemed a bit ridiculous to me, but I really wish they would have at least updated their site or online menu to reflect this (delivery is still an option on their website). I really wish old ownership was restored so food and service were back to normal.

The menu has been drastically cut, and ingredients substituted for cheaper, packaged options. Had a Blood Hound dog that now comes with canned sauce and canned cheese product instead grated cheddar, and a natural casing hot dog that was microwaved instead of grilled. Couldn’t finish it.One clerk manning the whole store while cases of beer are laying out on the floor and the fridges are half empty.

Alright so this place used to be great. Food was awesome, delivery was quick, beer was great. After new ownership took over , something changed. I've called 4 times in the last month to order with no answer or call back... During business hours. Delivery and pick up are no longer options because no one that works there will pick up the phone. The online menu also no longer works. We used to love ordering food there, sad to see things change.

Always get a good product. Beer selection is vast but a bit on the pricey side. Hot dogs are great but take a while to prep. Overall, always have a satisfactory experience

When we lived in Mt Washington we used to eat here a couple times a week and it was awesome. I haven't been here in about 2 years but I had to go to the bank around the corner today and since I had a free parking spot already I thought I'd go have my old favorite. I knew something was not right when I opened the door and there was not a soul in sight on a Friday afternoon. The place used to always be busy. I walked up to the counter and the older guy almost barked at me what I'd like to order before I could even look at the menu board. Luckily I already knew what I wanted so I ordered the Chihuahua dog (chili, cheese and onion) and a chili and cheese fries. The younger kid started making my order and I noticed that the two large TVs on the wall that used to show either sports or something else you would find in a bar now were showing something else unusual for a restaurant. The older guy kept his back to me while he watched some movie on SHOWTIME that he was watching when I entered that had some pretty heavy violence and gore in it. I got my food and then the younger kid came around and sat on a stool one down from me with his face in his phone and turned the other TV onto what I guess is India's version of MTV. So I had my choice of a slasher movie with subtitles or Indian and Ugandan (Not making this up) rap videos. Back to my food. Gone is the freshly shredded cheese on the dog and fries, gone is the chili that looked and tasted like chili. It has been replaced with a bright orange, goopy and lumpy not very warm cheese sauce food product and a brown chili sauce that has little to no meat in it and looked and tasted nothing like chili that you were used to. All of it comes from large gallon size institutional cans no doubt. Also my hot dog bun was stale to the point that it was cracking and breaking into pieces when I tried to hold it to bite into it. The actual beef hot dog itself didn't look too bad but everything else on it and around it ruined it. Fries were drowned in the the orange and brown sauces and very flavorless. I did notice that even though the quality of the food had gone down the drain the prices seem to have actually gone up. Almost 6 dollars for a beef dog, 6 dollars for an order of fries and offensive television for free. You can get the same exact thing for half the price at the Brighton Hot Dog Shop in Crafton and they have free parking. Sadly this is the last time I will go to Packs and Dogs, I hope their beer business is enough to keep them open because the food sure won't. Mt Washington has lost a great spot.

I don't see many of these old-fashioned hot dog shops around, but we came here on a whim. They have a few specialties, and also let you choose any combination of toppings that you want. The vienna beef frank was awesome, as was my chihuahua (chili, cheddar, onion) combo. The guy kept recommending their subs, so I do wonder if they make a killer sub rather than hot dog.

Every time I'm on Mt. Washington on a hot afternoon, I stop in for a brew. Their beer selection is great and their prices more than fair. Most of their micros are between $2.00 and $3.50. They make great hot dogs too.

meh. The beer is priced MUCH too expensive. Trust me, I'm an avid craft beer consumer, but $30 for a 6 pack is outrageous. My buddy got all common beverages and still paid $25... I'm not sure what kind of overhead the business is paying, but jeez, if it's that much, Change location. Mediocre selection mixed with gouging prices almost guaranteed I wouldn't come back unless in a dire situation.

The new foreign owners are clueless and I'm shocked they're still in business. It's ashame because Mark knew how to run this place. (I think that was his name) They used to have great food and were always packed on Friday and Saturday. Now nobody goes there. I'm not even sure they still make food. They throw no new money into the place. Give it 6 more months and they'll be out of business.

Fun place to grab a custom built natural casing hot dog. Great bottled beer selection. Six packs to go. Small but comfortable lounge area in a no-frills, get what you expect establishment.

great place if you like paying more than something is worth and inept, inebriated staff. manager was trashed and watching "Nailed it" on Netflix while laughing hysterically. both bathrooms were clogged, and u want to buy dogs since the place is literally called packs and dogs? too bad. the kitchen was "down". also do you want to pay almost $5 for a hot dog? yeah, neither do I

A good beer selection and decent food. Good place to hang out with friend without breaking the bank.If you live around the area or frequent around Mt Washington I would recommend it. Other than that, I wouldn't make a special trip to here.

Used to be a great place. Just walked in there and paid $3.50/each for a 6 pack and got told they don't do food. So much for hotdogs.

Food was okay. Service was next the worst I've ever experienced. Was greeted received first drink and placed a food order. After food delivery no chk back on refills. Watched the manager sit and eat his meal while his staff drowns in small rush making no move to help out. One employee watched the cashier get run over by customers without pitching in on the service side. No attempt was made at apology for poor service.

I am so sorry to say this but this has to be the worst meal I've ever had and to pay almost 30 dollars for 2 hot dogs a fry with chili and cheese and a chicken sandwich with 3 pops was the worst part. At least if it was cheaper you could understand getting bad food. The fries had so much salt on them we couldn't eat them and the hot dogs were barley warm and they were actually hard not the bun but the hot dog itself. Inedible. The cheese and chili for the fries was on the side but cold and really just terrible. We barely ate the food but we are all at home with horrible stomach aches. Again I'm really sorry to have to tell you this and I really wish I could get reimbursed.

Cool place up on Shiloh St with a nice interior in case you want to stay a bit to drink, watch sports, or grab a bite to eat. Usually just stop in to buy beer, they have a good selection of 6 packs, and you can also "build your own". Prices aren't too cheap but aren't too bad

Great hot dogs, good sandwiches, great craft beer selection, pretty good prices, nice staff, comfy couches and chairs, and a good place to watch sporting events, if you're into that type of thing. I personally am not, but it's still a nice environment to be in during games.
