This place has given me and my 3 pups the best of care through their association with the Street Dog Coalition..providing free care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter to the homeless and those with unstable housing. God Bless Them All!!

We had an amazing experience here! The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! We are so happy to have Silo in our family! They were able to answer all our questions before we even asked them. They also gave us an informational packet on our kitty about her background and her medical history. I will for sure recommend them to anyone looking to adopt! They were very upfront with us on everything about her. Thank you for helping us adopt!

I found this place last minute. I saw the cat named Caleb online and went to see him same day. In all my years of owning cats, I have never met one nicer. He is very sweet and outgoing. He is in good health and keeps me in my toes. It has only been two days and I feel like I have made the right decision. I am from Maryland. I went to shelters that gave me sick cats. I went to three different shelters on two different sides of Maryland. Only to have loss those cats to their medical issues. Caleb is a breath of fresh air. I would recommend this location for adopting animals. The staff is friendly. The process is quick. And you don’t have a long wait. In Maryland, I had to wait four hours to adopt a cat. And then I had to return the cat because it was violent. So, I post this review as someone with experiences with sick cats, cats infested with fleas beyond what frontline plus could correct, cats so violent that I had to call animal control to remove the animal, and cats that I took back the same week because they weren’t properly socialized. This place is different. They truly care about their animals. If I ever want to adopt again, I will go here.

Incredibly caring and genuinely empathetic individuals who enjoy working with animals and trying to find homes for the ones that they work with. They have busy days and are not staffed to capacity like any shelter that relies a lot on volunteers (always remember that when you're at a place like this) to help take some of the workload off of the main stay day to day. The entire operation is still genuinely impressive with how it works and how many people work with the animals to keep them content and happy enough or as they can be while needing homes.Honesty is imperative when adopting or surrendering so as much information is given to new adopters and so that a proper home can be found so the cycle doesn't repeat itself. The best outcome is a permanent home for all animals with their humans. Sometimes things just don't work out. I had a cat for roughly 6 years, but when I adopted two I suddenly had cat allergies reemerge, that hadnt shown themselves since childhood. It made my daily asthma reignited and worsened, my usual daily migraines unbearable even with medication. These conditions and more made my already disabled life almost impossible to live on a daily basis even though I loved and was enamored with the new friends I brought home. They warmed up to me quickly too, right from the getgo, which can say a lot when it comes to cats. We explored almost every avenue for a month, but the only thing changing was that I was getting closer to a stay at the hospital even with all of the medications and changes in the household we made. Brushing, grooming, wet wipes, diet changes. It all failed to make a difference. I felt like a failure.Letting go of a pet you've welcomed into your life is hard, at no matter what stage. They helped reassure me that what I was doing was a hard decision, but a necessary one not just for me, but for my fur friends so that they didn't suffer from not having a proper caretaker. With as much love they showed me in a month, anyone would be lucky to have them in their lives. They deserve to be with someone who can give them that unrestrained by such problems. To me they are perfect and someone else will see that too.Their staff responded within 24 hours, sometimes even within a few hours of all of my calls to any questions or what solutions we could try. To ultimately the final decision to surrender. These are people who care. Who love animals. Who make it their lives to do what is best for them. Every single day, for everyone who interacts with them. For many just as a volunteered position because that's how far the love goes. Always remember that when you're there. I hope you find your new best friend(s) with their help. ❤️

I walked in on a Saturday and was looking for a furry best friend. Well, I found him! The staff at Western Ave were flawless with their help, input, expectations, etc. Everyone was so caring and proud of their animals.I was chosen by a pup the staff named Chowder. All white Pitt mix who happens to be deaf. Every staff person I encountered knew all about this dog and how goofy he is. They made me feel at ease with adopting my first deaf pup and allowed me to ask as many questions as I needed. Now, Chowder is home and loving being a lap dog, playing with his sister, sleeping on the couch and going for walkies. He even knows a few sign language commands!

I adopted Monroe about 2 years ago. He has FIV and some other health issues but he’s my baby. He’s so spoiled and loved. I never thought of myself as a “cat person.” He meets me at the door after work and wakes me at ungodly hours for food. He snores in my face, drools, and makes biscuits on my head. His best friend is a tortoise named Tes. I love this guy!

The utmost RESPECT for THIS Organization 🙌✅. My life has been insane fr. I appreciate every staff member at the Humane Animal Rescue 🐾. They assisted me during one of the roughest times of my Life . I can be difficult to deal with when I am hurt, confused, exhausted and in financial despair. Thank you for assisting me with my decision to re-home Zaya. She is an amazing dog who deserves her NEXT Best Life and a relaxing forever home ♾️ 🏡 🐾💗.

I am VERY disappointed in the vet services here and will be taking my dog elsewhere from now on. I had an appointment recently and waited in the room for an hour past my appointment time before someone came into the room and informed me that the vet had an emergency so I would have to return another day in order for my dog to receive his heart worm pills. Fine. They at least still gave his some vaccines and I would bring him back the following week. The day of that next appointment I had car troubles. I tried calling to inform them but, per the norm, no one answered the phones. I left a voicemail and walked into the office exactly 15 minutes late. They told me they only do 10 minutes late. I asked for them to reconsider since they had inconvenienced me last time and it would be a shortened appointment anyway since we just needed the heart worm pills check up. They told me no. The only person in the waiting room was the next appointment- which was 15 minutes from then. I left angry and called to talk to the manger. No answer - left a voicemail. Gave it two business days. Called again. Left another voicemail. Finally got a call back a few days later , but no help ,no apology .Very unprofessional. I want to support the humane society but they have been too frustrating and disappointing. Think twice before using them for your animal’s vet services.

Found a cat by the side of the road severely injured. Both hind and forelegs extremely damaged, I called these guys and they sent two people. The first guy intentionally scared the cat and the second guy got embarrassed because I was able to calm the cat. He then told me to stay back because I (who obviously was able to soothe the cat and bring it closer to me and make it purr) might scare the cat. They then scared the cat to the basement of an apartment and pretended to search for it. They didn't find the cat and they just left without an explanation. They didn't return later on. Kudos.

The vet service was the most incredibly caring and comforting. The end of life service the Humane Society offers is beyond compare. It was so difficult to say goodbye to my 14 yr old cat, Nigel, but the vet staff was warm and wonderful. They never rushed my tears, nor final moments.

A Disappointing Experience at the Humane Animal Rescue: A Flawed Adoption ProcessI recently visited the local Humane Animal Rescue with high hopes of adopting a new furry friend. Unfortunately, my experience left me disheartened and frustrated as the facility's adoption process seemed more like shopping from a catalog than the personal and meaningful experience one expects when choosing a new pet.Upon arriving, I was surprised to find that I couldn't walk through the kennels to see the dogs. Instead, I was directed to a binder filled with pictures of available dogs, reminiscent of flipping through a catalog. While I appreciate the effort to showcase the animals, this method lacks the hands-on approach that is crucial when making a decision as important as bringing a pet into your home. When I inquired about the dogs' energy levels, a vital factor in matching a pet with a suitable owner, I was told that the staff knew the energy of each dog and could guide me. However, I couldn't help but question how accurately they could gauge a dog's behavior with a prospective owner based on a brief interaction. The idea that they could predict how a dog would react specifically to me seemed unrealistic.Adding to the disappointment was the restriction on meeting only up to three dogs. Limiting potential adopters to such a small number of interactions significantly hampers the ability to make a well-informed decision about the best fit for one's lifestyle and personality. What was even more frustrating was that this procedure was not clearly communicated on their website. Adopting a pet is a significant commitment, and potential adopters should be well-informed about the process beforehand. The lack of transparency on the website left me feeling misled and dissatisfied. While the staff at the Humane Society were undoubtedly friendly, their inability to provide a comprehensive and personalized adoption experience was a major drawback. Understanding how a dog's energy aligns with mine requires more than a brief encounter, and being limited to meeting just a few dogs is a severe hindrance to making the right choice. While I appreciate the commendable work that the Humane Society does, the adoption process, as experienced, falls short of expectations. Adopting a pet should be a deeply personal and thoughtful decision, not an experience akin to online shopping. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to the Humane Society to find my new fur baby.

The Humane Society was such a nice place to go to for my new puppy. King. They were so excited to play with him (even the people in the back came out to look and play with him) They took care of him so well and I would recommend this place to any animal owner.

I had appointment at 830 am. Was on time. Out in a room and waited for 21/2 hours. No one came in room and I walked out. What a waste of time.

People who work here aren't completely honest and rude. Then they tell you they will call you about an animal if it's still there but yet again "not in policy" to do so. They are also disrespectful and not helpful at all. Totally disappointed. I'll go elsewhere. This place years ago was way better than this.

I don't understand the people who work at the Humane Society on the Northside, last year when I went down to Foster a cat that I eventually ended up adopting, I was treated like crap on the first two visits it wasn't until I filed a complaint with the site manager that I was treated halfway decent, last week I went down to make a donation of cat food and pick up her medication, I took Mia (NipNip) with me so they could see how she was coming along, they was just this rude and ignorant and standoffish as they were last year, now I could see if the place was busy but nobody was doing anything but sitting around and it seems that it irritated them that I was even there, I said it before and I'll say it again they don't treat everyone was the same respect when you walk through the front door, they need to stop judging people by their outer appearance if you get my drift, God forbid if I ever have to adopt another cat I would not go to the Northside site to do it.

Got this little guy at the Humane Animal Rescue as an emotional support animal for my fiancé. This place really cares about their animals. The amount of security that building has is awesome. Shows they care. On the inside its a very welcoming place. Nice colors, very friendly staff. Everyone kept telling us how precious our little one was(He's only about 4 months old at the time of the pictures). When we took him in for his third set of shots, everyone there was very gentle with him, gave him lots of scratches and pets. They love him there.😍😍 He even purred for them. We think he may have remembered how they were with him before since he didn't fight us at all when we were there and the veterinary assistant said she specifically was the one who named him when the Rescue got him. Small world!

Worst place to go to get a pet they told me you have to have a experience with other dogs even though I have a dog and I’m pacifically looking for a husky and then they printed off me a place. It’s clear and New Jersey for me to get a husky poor customer service.

Went to find a cat but got an education. The employees love what they do and it shows. Filled out the paperwork and I was paired with the perfect little guy. I was given the opportunity to be alone with him to be sure our personalities matched. I brought him home knowing about how to care for him and an appointment at the clinic scheduled. The experience was wonderful.

Very nice. Animal are well tended to. Very understaffed but they do well with what they have to work with. Everyone was very nice and very helpful. We are all so in love with our new little family member, Loki that we returned and got him a playmate - Jack

I recently adopted a cat from the North Side facility and I was impressed with the COVID protocols put into place to keep both employees and visitors safe. I love the cat that I picked out, and normally I would give this organization 5 stars, but due to what I assume is a clerical mixup the cat that I adopted did not receive the full course of medicine for ear mites that he should have gotten. When I picked him up, I was assured that he had received both his first and second dose of medicine to eliminate the mites, but he had only received the first and by the time I brought him back for his check-up he had developed an ear infection which I then had to deal with using ear drops for a week.I don't think this was done maliciously, but unfortunately it did occur and I would recommend that anyone adopting an animal from this facility be thorough when examining the paperwork.

WONDERFUL shelter! I adopted my baby from here a few years ago as well as two other dogs before. They have dogs, cats and bunnies! Please adopt don't shop! There are a lot of animals here who need loving homes! The staff are helpful and friendly. They also have a low cost vet clinic. All of the adoptable pets are spayed or neutered and are micro chipped and up to date on all of their shots! They have a location in North Shore and one in Shadyside that also has a wildlife center.
