I like this store it has a lot of different fish and the tanks are nice clean. The store smells fresh when you walk in. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. It is a little pricey on some of the fish/ items. Also they have hoses in the isles so you have to be careful. I’ll return for my fish needs.Note the parking lot is in the back.

I leave this review because I didn’t like how I was treated on my most recent visit.I was ready to make a purchase and went to stand by the cash register. The worker was behind the counter talking on the phone. I was polite and waited, but he was pacing behind the counter, continuing to talk, and obviously ignoring me for more than 10 minutes. Are yinz paying him to talk? It looked like a big wireless store phone too, not even a personal one.Finally, after all that time, another worker came up to ring me up. At this point there was a line.I wish they clearly had what feeder insects they carry listed with prices. I would rather look at a “menu” than have an employee list them every time. I also wish they carried excavator clay.I was also looking to buy isopods. The prices and stock are unclear. I looked at the powder blues, and there might have been 3 that I saw in the container? The man gave me a pen to poke around the substrate with. He wasn’t knowledgeable about these bugs.After he checked me out, he took the pen I had just used to poke at the isopod container and rinsed it in the nearest fish tank 😬This is an average pet store, although they do have good quality feeder bugs (when they’re in stock). Their customer service leaves much to be desired. I should also note that my friend bought 8 fish here a month ago, and 2 of them died within a week (with good water tests in her tank!)The bottom line: They could definitely improve overall, but they are better than Petco or Petsmart any day.

I took my daughter here to get some freshwater plants to start out our new small aquarium, they had a huge assortment of fish plants and products to buy all looking in great condition they had an amazing variety of everything and were very nice and helpful.

If I could give a higher score I would. I recently moved to California. I had a 17 year old Koi fish in Pittsburgh and the only option was to actually bring him on my flight. Out of this rare circumstance, Aquaworld didn’t blink an eye and helped me throughout the process. 🙏🏽They gave me breather bags that were pretty hard to get without buying them in bulk. They even told me to come back with my fish so they can properly fill his bag with pure oxygen which was the major difference for my fish’s survival. This alone was a struggle to find in Pittsburgh.My biggest thing that I was upset about was actually I wish I knew this place when I was still in Pittsburgh they had major variety compared to the big box stores. Hell even Jeff Bezos and Amazon can’t compete with this place. If you’re ever looking for anything aqua related come through! They even sell hype beast sneakers haha

Great place Great People Great ServiceJust bought the (estimate 13ft )Reticulated python in the back that some of us locals may recognize. Been there for awhile. Can’t wait to see what they bring in to fill the retics spot. Guys went above and beyond to make sure transportation was right and safe for the snake . Helped in every way possible . Very thankful , highly recommend these guys

Update- 4 fish were sold to us sick, all 4 having something different. Bristlenose had a white patch over his brain that eventually allowed his brain to show through which killed him (after many different attempts of saving/medicating him). The girl tried to blame it on our water quality which is and always was perfect. They still have a huge selection. Fish, snakes, lizards,birds,tarantulas, turtles, gators, silkworms, guinea pigs and everything to take care of them all with. They are rude and defensive when you ask them for help because they sold you sick fish. I think this place should be checked out for legality issues and animal cruelty.

10/10 Aquaworld is my favorite Locally owned fish store in the area. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the store is packed with fish, plants, reptiles, bugs, birds and all the supplies in between. We will continue to return again and again.

Don't know how this place is rated 4 stars, I was treated with no respect at all and talked very rudely to the one guy who seemed like the owner don't know for sure was so rude amd miserable I don't know why he was even there if it's that bad I asked questions and he's like I don't know, I don't care he stated and he also stated it's doesn't matter to me or them I don't make anything off of these at all so I could care less what you do !! My jaw literally dropped and I could have got very smart but I didn't I was just in such disgust because just the way he said it and looked was so rude and it was so dirty there I get it it's a fish store but really they could atleast show they care a little, I will never be back and do not recomended this place at all I felt so bad for the reptiles their tanks were full and covered in feces and bugs it really was horrible amd the 2 things I got from there had mites and the one died the 2nd day it just makes me sick honestly so maybe try cleaning up and show a little care for your customers and work place!!

I was excited to come here. Big MISTAKE!! This place was horrible in every way! Its DISGUSTING that it has this many reviews and over 4 stars! The fish tanks were all filthy and most of the the fish were all dead, sick, or had pieces missing! (also overpriced, but that's the least of my concern) They have to many fish incorrectly cohabed together in tiny tanks! They have 100 piranhas cramped in a tank together and they all have eaten each other to the point you are over paying for a piranha and you only get half a fish because they have eaten each other!! The bearded dragons are crammed into tiny cages and stressed beyond belief with BLACK beards. The snakes I saw were underweight with stuck shed! I thought "ok, maybe they are just super understaffed and somewhat trying?" NOPE. THEY were all just sitting by the front desk hanging out waiting to sell over priced dying animals or waiting to see if they die first! I have a youtube channel (H.H.H. Exotics) and take a lot of pride in healthy animals (my venomous snakes, non venomous, alligators, caiman, crocodiles, lizzards, fish, ect)! I wish I was rich and could just buy this whole place from them to save the poor animals that they have there! I know we can all improve and need to stick together for the animals but this is just disgusting! Please do not support them! Go check it out for yourself and truly look at eveything there and let me know what you truly think! I would not even buy feeder rats, mice fish, ect there! GROSS!!

We have two pink belly African side neck turtles. The girl was very knowledgeable about them and helped us get our tank and turtles set up. The reason why we drive 45 minutes here every two weeks to get them plants for a snack - because they’ll go out of their way to make sure you can take care of the pets you sometimes buy and are in over your head with. We did lots of research but being first time turtle parents was a little overwhelming and we wanted to make sure that they were well taken care of. Thanks for your help, we appreciate you! Bonnie and Clyde are happy baby punk bellies❤️very fair pricing- cheaper than the big box stores.

Perfect place to get some exotic animals! Lots of reptiles, fish, and amphibians to choose from! If you need some fish for a pond definitely come here! There are an array of coy fish to choose from varying in size, breed, and color. :)

Such a variety of fish, plants, and products. Kid friendly environment and can be educational. Kids enjoyed the colors of all the animals and plants, and learning about the different animals. Kids loved seeing the new animals and matching to movies or story books. Also, had the hard to find products for our tanks. Definitely, going back. Either shopping or educational family time.

I swear this is the only place in Pittsburgh that sells live rats i searched for like a year around Pittsburgh and could only find mice for my 2 snakes that is significantly large i appreciate this store being here and on top of that the fish and coral selection is top tier!

bought a baby corydora here maybe 2 days ago and died today. it definitely had a sickness, the body was pale white and it was very disturbing. i am in a limbo because my other corys and catfish could be sick now because they are acting lethargic. the place is dirty and unkept.

This place has so much potential and could be absolutely fantastic. I wanted to love it, I really did, but I wasn't super impressed. For a store that prides itself in specializing in aquatic life, I felt like they could definitely do a better job with maintaining the state of their tanks. They did have a good variety of fish and I thought their prices were fair, but I think the other fantastic aquarium stores in the Pittsburgh area do a better job.

Prices are quite ridiculous. Selection of aquarium equipment is sub par. Fish did not seem to be in adequate or safe aquariums.I recommend wet pets and friends.

Prices are insane , the highest I've ever seen . Some cool exotics but half the fish were sick. I'm not paying 10.00$ for a guppy . I've been to alot of lfs and I've never seen prices that high . Koi pond outside is cool would not recommend trying to fill your aquarium with fish from this store .

Most of the fish seemed okay but the land dwelling animals were another story. They are crammed in tiny cages and the reptiles did not look healthy. They had around 10 bearded dragons in one small tank. Also with the tortoises, they should not be housed together since they get territorial but they put three together in an extremely small tank.They had birds and rabbits in the entrance that were piled on top of each other, with dirty cages.I am very disappointed, I feel bad for the animals.I feel like the staff does care but they simply just do not have the adequate space for the animals. The stop is extremely cluttered and messy.

Before I mention the issues that I've had, every single time I have been in there I cannot tell you how many people have been in tears and extremely upset over the massive turtle shoved in a tiny plastic bin in the back of the store, now there is another smaller one in the same container. Desperately trying to get out and clearly disturbed and upset....dead fish, hermit crabs, rats, mice, etc. Their focal point is the exotics and their Koy. I was referred to them by a friend... That now strictly only gets crickets and feeder fish there, even at that, a certain type of feeder fish because of them not making it home alive. He told me, after the fact, that he had bought multiple bearded dragons there that died almost immediately. He wouldn't buy anything else breathing there! But I was convinced to buy a baby boa constructor for my son at a lower cost by my friend, the owner that my friend calls Ming. Also, being pushed thru the process because the young asian girl had other people to talk to. While trying to learn and make sense of this buy, two other male employees! were complaining about the young girl. She even went to the extent of "looking something up on the computer" and explained why he looked so bad, sickly, and like his head was smashed. Complete nonsense! I felt so awful for the poor thing. I had no doubt he would have been killed if I didn't buy him. Even the friend that will not buy anything other than crickets there and feeder fish, told me that " it looked like his head had been smashed, probably was. Who knows where Ming got him..but hey, its cheap". He did have one severely bulging eye, which is sometimes a trait in some Boas because of a clogged duct in their mouths but can easily be cared for without the snake dying. Along with a $200 tank that was used and filthy, I was also told the tank was waterproof which it is not! After spending a fortune on this poor little snake, he did not make it. He was a red tail boa that looked like he had never eaten even once. Getting him to eat the first time was difficult, but thanks to a lot of youtube videos, I was able to get a very small meal into him. I don't believe that he had ever had a meal prior. And i dont believe the owner ever thought he would make it. He was nothing but skin. Why my friend was so incredibly persistant on me getting the snake and continues to go to such an underground place, I do believe it is the influence of the young asian girl behind the counter, lol. Pretty face and big mouth does not mean you're getting good quality animals!!!! I have been there when I asked to see baby mice as a pet, prior to the interest in the baby snake, and everything in the cage was dead and had been rotting for a while. The smell was horrendous! If my friend who has been going there formany, many years, only goes to get fish that are going to be eaten immediately, and crickets that are going to be eaten immediately.... Why would anybody go there to buy an actual pet? The owner breeds alot of his own animals, and I have no clue where he gets the rest, but please believe me, there are better places. Places without disease, torturous treatment, death, etc. It is like a pawnshop for animals. I really wonder where they, or how they got their license to breed domesticated and exotic animals???? As much as I support small businesses rather than corporate. This is one the people need to stay away from!

Pro tip for this place…know your stuff and ask a lot of questions! Don’t waltz in and buy whatever fish looks cool until you know everything about it! The staff there will help you all you need to do is ask, they’re all extremely knowledgeable

This place is one of the best fish stores I have been in. There is a koi pond outside with fish you can feed and purchase. All of the aquariums were well maintained, and the fish looked healthy. (No dead fish, or ones with damaged tails.) The selection of fish and coral was good, and there was a decent selection of exotic animals as well. The employees were upbeat, attentive and knowledgable. I plan on driving the hour to return for future purchases.

Went in for first time today and contrary to many reviews the fish all seemed healthy with the exception of a few feeder golds. Great selection overall. Customer service could be better. Only complaints are the amount of clutter, junk, and disorganization, as well as their larger tortoise that was NFS is kept in a plastic Pond that is much too small, and some of there larger fish are in tanks well too small for their size.
