My dog is having trouble urinating and I called hoping to get her treated for a UTI. I was quoted a price of over $400 because they "need to find out exactly what type of bacteria the dog has." Really egregious, greedy operation. All of these test to identify the exact bacteria are not used with humans (we give children amoxicillian and then a broad-spectrum bacteria if it does't work). But this organization sees $$$ in all the tests. I think I will go somewhere that is not so interested in fleecing someone who has a sick pet.

Every time my dogs have an appointment with this place they always find a reason to cancel it or reschedule some people take off from work just to get the day off to take their pets to get checked but this place has no compassion for you or your pet they should not work around pets at all the vet that we had to see they want to tell me that he hasn't been there in over 2 months they had plenty of time to get in touch with us not the day before I'm really disappointed in how this place turned out my two pets been going there from when they were puppies and they have lost a lot of good veterinarians that work their and don't even let me get started which veterinarian dropped the ball on my dog there are plenty good compassionate veterinarians out their but you won't find it at this place this place gets worse by the day and the people that they have answering the phones they have no compassion and they're rude and ignorant too

I’ve been going to Banfield for over 20 years. No matter what care team took care of my pets, the quality of care never changed. It’s been excellent. I refer my family and friends to them, when they ask about a pet problem they are having.

Hard to get a hold of them on the phone, but when you do, Kumasi is the most helpful employee there! The vet services are good for the price, and is a decent location.

After looking at some other options, I decided to bring my dog Eva here for a check up. She have a mass on her upper right molar that need to be removed and her teeth need to be cleaned as well. The cost for the teeth cleaning (including the surgery to remove the mass) is half of the cost compared to other vets that I've called. Also that day Eva got her rabies vaccination. Her rabies vaccination cost 30% cheaper that the other vet.Ok now let's talk about the WELLNESS PLAN. I read some of the reviews here and some of you are unhappy. They explain to me the benefit of the program. They make sure that I make a well informed decision. At the end, it's ME who decide if I want to sign up or not. They don't put a gun on my head to sign up for it and guess what... I didn't sign up for their wellness plan.Couple of days after our visit, they call me couple of times to check on Eva and to make sure everything is fine. My other vet (that I pay more for things) never do this.Unfortunately, Eva crossed the bridge at night (at my house). I didn't know what to do. I called them the next morning. They guided me through everything that I need. The next day I received something on the mail. They sent me a card with Eva's paw print.I'm very very grateful with everything they've done. Great customer service. Very nice - compassionate staff and doctor who are willing to listen to my concern and answer all my questions.

I’m not so sure about this location. I feel like the staff has zero communication between each other. For example, the receptionist that we spoke with didn’t relay the message that we did not want the a stomach stapling surgery performed on our Great Dane, but we were still going forward with the spay, well they accidentally did it anyway because they had no idea that the conversation happened. Also, my chihuahua had a lump in her abdomen area, the vet informed me it was her bellybutton…😕 I think they are fresh out of school and I would only trust them with minor concerns and basic check ups. You get what you pay for.

I’ve been taking my dogs to this vet for over 10 years. They have always been wonderful! The staff is always very friendly! They show how much they care for our fur babies! My dogs literally love going there for their checkups! The hospital is always very clean and organized very nice! The best part is the options of wellness plans for the animals! It helps so much with the cost! If i could give 100 stars i would! They have a wonderful team! I highly recommend!

Made a dental appt. The kept saying the wrong name for my pet even though I would assume they were looking at her record and proceeded to NOt do a dental appointment wasting my day. I even told them she had xrays recently and needs an extraction.

I’ve been a client at PetSmart South Philly since 2010 and I could literally go on for pages about how incredible the entire store and vet staff are. I signed my dog up as a patient there at the age of 6 weeks up until we had to say goodbye on 5/11/22. Every vet we saw took care of Bailey as if she was their own. We especially LOVE Alyssa Agnes who ALWAYS went above and beyond to make sure our Bailey was in the best of health. The puppy training classes there were also amazing and shaped Bailey for making friends along the way. I would highly recommend this Vet/Store location. When we decide to open our hearts/home we will be back with another “Baby Berry” for them to spoil.

Alyssa is the positive light that this hospital needed! Such a caring person leading an amazing team! Jenna, the head vet nurse, is also amazing! I moved out of the area but I still recommend this place to any friends who are in South Philly. Literally the best!

Dr. Venturelli and Dr. Schumacher provided excellent care to my pets. They are caring and compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. The support staff are amazing especially Jenna and Savannah! Alyssa, the Practice Manager, is always there to address my needs or concerns. The best!

I brought my dog here for surgery, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! The doctors are outstanding, not only in medical knowledge, but in caring for my pet as if she was their own. They even gave her special attention as she was coming out of the anesthesia so that she wouldn't become dysphoric. I really appreciate their straightforward approach. If you want your animal treated and cared for, then definitely consider taking them here!

This is a terribly run clinic. I would not recommend this place even to my enemy. They messed up the health certificate twice last year which resulted in hundreds of dollars in loss to rebook the flight to fly the dog I was taking care of internationally.Decided to give them a second chance with our new dog but wow what a terrible mistake. Booked the appointment 3-4 weeks in advance online and got a call a week before the appointment asking me to reschedule because there was a mix up. Fine, rescheduled it and got another call 2 days before the appointment asking me to reschedule again! I made every effort to move things around on that day to accommodate their last minute request. On the day of the appointment I was about 10 minutes late. There were people in front of me and the receptionist was very slow. Waited 20 minutes before it was my turn. The girl looked at the computer (I saw that they had a very light schedule on that day), went inside, came back and told me in cold face I’ll have to reschedule because I’m late???!!!! I explained I waited in line for a long time and her response is “well you are still late so you missed your appointment.” There is no effort made to accommodate me, and no further explanation. I offered to drop the dog off and come back any time of their choice during the day but the answer is still “well you missed your appointment.”How ridiculous it is when you have asked your customer to accommodate you twice (including one last minute request), yet you refuse to accommodate for 10 minutes of your precious time? This place obviously does not want my business and I recommend that you should take yours elsewhere.

Care has been great and I have nothing against the vets and team working, however, finding an appointment within a month is almost impossible. Possibly due to short staff. Even though I am paying a Monthly Fee for the Prevention Plan, what’s the point if you can’t get care when you need it. My pet was having an allergic reaction and the soonest they could take her is over a month from today. I ended up taking her to a different vet, paying out of pocket. I contacted Banfield and all they said was “Sorry we’re busy, but you’ve saved a lot in care.” I will be taking my business elsewhere and hope they can fix this, specially for those on the yearly Wellness plans.

I switched my Boxer from a very local vet (we could walk there) to Banfield hoping for better record keeping and more attentive service. I was very pleased. Our first visit, our vet got down on the floor to check out my pup. Something so simple meant a lot to me. (Instead of lifting all 80lbs of him onto a high table). We went for a skin issue months later, and unnecessary procedures were not pushed on me. The vet was clear on what I could do now and what I could consider later if my dog's symptoms changed. Today, I had to drop him off for acute care for the first time due to some pretty severe hives. I got two calls from the vet with updates on him AND she was very clear about the pricing of treatment. I continue to be impressed with Banfield's follow up, transparency, and overall care and compassion for my kid. They're there for you and they're there for your pets.

Be prepared to be confronted with a sales pitch every time you're in there. They want you to subscribe to their awful wellness plan for puppies, and the vet is VERY pushy about it.We took our dog in for a second visit, which was just for a single vaccination. I was very clear when scheduling the appointment, asking if the only charge would be for the shot. I was assured that was it.Well, lo and behold when we go to checkout, they charge us for the visit...which was 3x the cost of the shot. And this, of course, was after going through another sales pitch for the wellness plan. Again. The only thing Banfield cares about is money. Period. You'll be hassled about the wellness plan, told to get far more shots than your pet needs, and they'll try to sell you only the pills, collars, and topical ointments they have...all of which can be bought online for far, far less.I'm going to our local vet. It isn't worth the hassle, especially when you're dealing with a place that cares about making money and not about the pets in their care.

The vet didn't treat my cat. My cat wouldn't calm down for the vet so they gave me the meds to give to him myself. And they want me to give him a sedative next time and bring him back in a few weeks for blood work. It's difficult getting him to the vet in the first place so when nothing was done with him and I was told to bring him back was very frustrating.

I will never suggest a banfield ever again unless you use it for regular checks ups and have a back up with pet insurance if something ever happens. From my experience most of the vets aren't very knowledgeable outside of dental and flea and tick. Can't even tell what a detached retina looks like even though it's easily searchable online. A shame. Given incarnate information. Only reason giving 2 stars is because the desk and triage staff have always been nice

I took my cat here last week due to an issue he was having with his leg. The vet and assistant were very gentle with my cat and were able to diagnosis his issue. I was very pleased at how professional they were with my cat. I left with medicine and felt very comfortable by the end of his visit.

After seeing all of the bad reviews I feel compelled to share our excellent experience with this vet’s office. We started with Banfield a few years ago after I impulsively took in a cat off the street who needed medical attention ASAP. We chose them initially because the office is very close to our house and was the only non-emergency office where we could get an appointment for weeks. Right away I was impressed! We never intended for this to be our primary vet but our first experience was great. Our cat had a host of medical issues and the only way we were able to afford her care was with their Wellness Plan. I don’t remember them being pushy about it at all and I was very grateful that it was an option for us. When the time came when we needed to put her down they were so compassionate. We were a bunch of blubbering messes and they let us stay as long as we needed. Even now, putting my cat down was one of the worst days of my life and I was so appreciative of their kindness and patience. A week or so later, much to my surprise, we received a sympathy card in the mail signed with personal notes from all the vets and techs in the office. I was blown away by that gesture. In the years since, we’ve continued to take our new additions (our sweet senior cat + loudmouth behemoth of a dog) to this office. We’ve seen Dr. Hutzapple and Dr. Masucci and they’ve both been excellent. We haven’t signed up for the Wellness Plan with either of our current pets since they’re lower-maintenance and just need annual appointments. We’ve never been pressured or pushed on this subject by anyone on in the office. Unfortunately, vet care is just expensive but I’ve always found their prices to be reasonable and they do a good job of explaining what you’re paying for when you ask.We always make it a point to make appointments early in the morning before the PetSmart opens and we’re always in-and-out without issue. We could go elsewhere but we’ve stuck with Banfield because they’ve always treated my critters with exceptional care.

I love going to Banfield in South Philly. The staff is very friendly and they treat your pet as if it was their very own. They take time answering any questions you have. Dr. Hutzapple has been treating my shorkie since he's been a puppy. He's now 2yrs old. She's great🤗!!!

I just went to get my dogs shots up to date at Banfield Pet Hospital and the PetsMart staff there were very friendly and helpful. And my veterinarian and assistant was very informative and caring when it came to my dog. They also answered all of my personal concerns regarding my dog. My only concern was that the administrator working the desk at the time failed to recognize how businesses operate, a business is set up to satisfy customer needs, not make life harder for the customer. If your dog pees on the floor in the pet store you help them clean it up not insult them, and insist it is cleaned immediately and point them in the direction of a box of tissues, when a mop was needed, do they really expect people to wipe up pee from an 80lb dog with a napkin??? I witnessed this and it was extremely rude. The poor dog was so excited to be there she couldn’t help herself. This administrator should probably not work around animals. However, with that aside my experience was very professional and I would give them a second chance.

Please DO NOT bring your pet here! They do not care about your pet! They care about money!! And that’s it! The only reason they even have a one star rating is because it’s mandatory!I brought my dog here on July 4th due to her urinating an alarming amount of blood. The vet called us via phone as we waited (due to covid we were not allowed in the back) and told us our dog was in excellent condition for her age. They weren’t able to get a negative or positive testing with the urinalysis due to how much blood was in her urine but decided to treat her for a UTI. They gave us seven days worth of antibiotics (they said typically they give five) and I asked before leaving when would we start to see some results and the tech went back and asked.. then came back and said within two to three days. During the week we noticed a lot of signs of things getting worse and we contacted them and nobody returned our calls. Even when we told them we believe our dog was seizing in the middle of the night. Or when we called once the antibiotics were about to finish and told them nothing has improved. They told us to come back in for another urine test and she probably needs additional antibiotics. We decided to take our dog elsewhere and had to make the decision to put our dog to sleep because she was bleeding internally. A week later after we visit your location and you tell me my dog is healthy.. she is gone. I can’t even put into words how awful I feel that I listened to you and convinced myself she was okay because I desperately wanted her to be. I never want anyone else to feel the way I do. Fast forward to today when your chief of staff calls me and calls herself offering her condolences yet she actually invalidated my feelings numerous times while I’m also grieving the loss of my dog. She told me that her veterinarian did everything she could and should have done when clearly she knows I feel otherwise. She told me that the vet told me that my dog may need to be brought in for a follow up which was never ever said to me! She said they told me to bring her in for different testing which was never said to me! They only offered another urinalysis and additional antibiotics when I called them because as I stated previously they never returned our calls. She told me this is what it states in their notes as if that means it MUST be true. I asked her why another vet was able to feel the lump on my dogs belly within two minutes and her vet didn’t even though I paid for a physical exam and she insured me her vet did a physical exam because it’s written down and that’s legal documents so once again it MUST be true. I wasn’t present in the room.. nor was she.. so I told her neither of us can speak and honestly say it did or didn’t happen. She offered me a sixty dollar refund for the exam.. Is that supposed to make me feel better? You admitting your vet misdiagnosed my pet would make me feel better. You admitting that your business failed in following up with us after paying you would make me feel better. But instead you just want to invalidate how I feel and back up your vet. Please DO NOT bring your beloved pets here.. They do not care! I will never stop speaking up for my dog!!

My 6 month old puppy went in for spay and when I called them with post op concerns I was disregarded and made to feel that this was a normal reaction. They called to follow up at 9 AM and when I told them the incision was getting worse they told me I can come in at 4:45 cause the doctor was in surgery. Took my puppy to another emergency vet and they had to perform emergency surgery due to infected site. Banfield disregarded my concerns, therefore making me seek help somewhere else. They can care less about the animals and are unprofessional to say the least. I am disgusted that so called vets don’t stand by there surgeries. If left untreated my dog could have became septic. They need to start listening to pet parents and be more proactive. I would spend my life savings on my dogs. They are my children and it horrified me that pure negligence can cost your puppy their life.

They are good if you have money, but like every other pet hospital no money no service. I have been a faithful dog owner for over 10 years. My husband passed away 3 years ago. Since then my pebbles has been getting ill. The pet insurance my husband had for my dog lapsed after he passed and I have not been able to pay for services for her. I got enough money to at least get her a check up and meds. she needs more help but every time I call them they say sorry there’s nothing we can do or they put me on hold so long til the call ends. I feel so bad for my dog.

Update 1/2021This place has become so bad. The front end staff are very rude. The vets techs lack basic knowledge and the vets do the bare minimum. The vets barely speak to you directly and dont give you information on any issues. You have to constantly ask for more information, treatment options, preventative options, etc. They ignore warning notes and allergies on the pets profiles. Also be warned about the pet insurance. I have asked multiple times for it to not be autorenewed and they contantly renew it and then charge you to cancel it.The front desk staff are always so sweet and efficient. I've had a few bad experiences with different vets here of the course of many years, but they seem to always rotate so once you get one you like you can ask them to make them your primary doc for your pets. But they are super accommodating for mild-emergency visits (for serious emergencies take them to the ER)
