Wonderful experience! Impactful art connecting generations of humans involved directly and indirectly with coal mining. Highly skilled mosaic artists from all over the world contributed to honoring the hard work and lives of miners and their families. This is a local and national treasure.

Last Sunday was my second visit to The Ruins and I took a friend. I learned more about the miners and their families and saw new additions to the project. I recommend if you go, keep up with the tour guide. It's an easy, leisurely stroll at this outdoor art exhibit, but you could get behind if you're trying to take too many photos. Erica does a fantastic job of explaining the most intricate things about this display and you don't want to miss out as the tour moves along. (Also, stop at the nearby Get Go before your tour, as there are no public restrooms.) There are wonderful stories to hear and share about the roots of coal mining in western Pennsylvania at this place!

A truly amazing experience! Rachel is a phenomenal artist and her vision to transform an abandoned coal mine into a collaborative art exhibit is genius. I highly recommend a tour of the Ruins and purchasing a piece (or a few) of art from her studio.

Sager Mosaics is a little studio right on the GAP trail. Rachel is great and very welcoming. We made a tradition to stop here to refill the water and treat ourselves with ice cream while on the trail.

Next to the Great Allegheny Passage near Whitsett sits Sager Mosaics. Although I've ridden my bike by it several times, it has never been open. Luckily, it was open today, so I stopped in.If you like hand-made mosaics from metal, ceramics or glass, you will love the items here. Also, get a cold drink or try the handmade ice cream sandwiches in unique flavors! I had strawberry pretzel salad ice cream which was delicious!

We took the Sager Mosaics tour last Saturday and were treated to a terrific mixture of art, history, geography, mining lore, foliage, and human interaction. The property is a work in progress so you can revisit and see the progress of older works and new works that are heading here constantly.

Friendly folks. Stopped by while riding the GAP. They were low on inventory when we stopped by so business must be good. Looks like they probably have some nice assortment of GAP, bike art.

This is a nice place to visit, either as a refreshing stop when touring along the Yough River Trail or as a final destination for art and area history.

This place is amazing, situated among the ruins of a coal mine, Rachel and her cohort of artists has created a memorial that respects and honors the work and death of coal miners in the area with such breathtaking, respectful and touching artwork that it truly is worth the drive and the cost of admission.

I have visited Sager Mosaics several times. An easy drive from Pittsburgh, I love visiting The Ruins. It's amazing, the art, the history the love Rachel brings to this area. You can take a ride on your bike, take a walk by the river and than buy beautiful jewelry or a magnificent piece of Art that you will forever cherish. You will never find a place like this anywhere!

Rachel Sager Mosaics has beautiful, unique pieces often made from natural and found materials. They also provide multi-day hands-on training courses in the art of mosaics which are run by the talented owner, Rachel.
