The adoption of Rocco was very pleasant. The staff was thorough with a home visit which I value, considering its all about the safety of every adoptable dog. Since I already had 3 dogs, they brought Rocco to me which was great to see how he felt in a new environment. Thanks PAL!!!!

We adopted our dog in early February. Toni was amazing, and the dog was clearly well cared-for. The dog came with all his vaccinations, detailed vet records, was chipped and neutered. PAL sent us home with food, toys, a collar and leash. Zero complaints!!!

This was a great experience for me and my family. We adopted Yukon and were very excited to work with Toni and Rachelle during the whole process. They were open, honest and genuine with us. They are in this because they truly care for these animals. We thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts for introducing us to Yukon and could not be happier to call him part of our little family. Thank you ladies so much.

LOVVVE THIS SHELTER! We got two of our babies here! They answered every question and concern we had. There's a guarantee on the adoptions. If there's anything wrong with the pet, you can bring them back and they will treat him/her at their own expense. Every pet is fixed and microchipped. Our dog also came with a leash, harness, free adoption kit voucher, and a free groom voucher. Pretty great deal! They even let us borrow a cat carrier when we brought our cat home! Same day adoption for the most part. They truly love and care for their animals. Truly passionate people.

Adopted a beautiful Australian cattle dog puppy (Moose). Love him! They already had him fixed, chipped, shots and groomed. Very nice people there. Wish I could take them all home! Rescues make the most loyal pets imo. The volunteers that care for the animals are wonderful. They really do the best they can. It does smell of pet urine a bit, I believe they rely on donations for cleaning supplies. Take a couple gallons of bleach and visit some wonderful pets, they need a forever home, you need a furry friend.

This is my rescue Murphy, and here he is with Santa 🎅 that was sponsored by PAL. I took him here last year also. Everyone was super friendly, and they gave the dogs treat bags also

I adopted a wonderful boxer/pit mix four years ago from the Pet Adoption League. Her name is Maggie and she has added hours of joy and love to her forever home. She is deeply loved by mom and dad, (and spoiled). I'm so glad Maggie chose me.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND. DO NOT GO HERE!I am a graduate student in a city close to this town. I have a very good friend who lives a bit of a ways away, but when I was on facebook and saw pictures of beagle-pointer mix puppies, I just had to tell my friend about it because I knew she was looking for a dog and loved beagles! My friend drove QUITE A WAYS because she is so dedicated to finding the right puppy for her loving home. After driving to the shelter, falling in love with the puppy, and filling out an application, we were told she would get a call when she is approved and come back the next day for the pup.So, I graciously offered my friend a night in my home so that the next day she could go pick up the puppy. However, after not receiving a call the whole day, she decided to call back and the shelter informed her that she was approved but they had adopted the pup out to another family. WITHOUT CALLING HER TO TELL HER SHE WAS APPROVED BUT DENIED for the dog because OF HOW FAR SHE LIVES.It would have only been of courtesy to call her first and let her know that she was not able to take this puppy home. What did they expect her to just forget about this puppy she fell in love with?Outright disgusting and rude. They began making up “policies” (that were not stated on their website) on the spot to justify their reasoning.Well I’m sorry but there is no reason why they could not have simply called to let her know she was denied for the puppy and then have reached out to the others that applied. They basically pulled the dog right out from under her.I am utterly revolted with the adoption process at this shelter.

I just adopted from there. So glad I did!!! She's a wonderful dog. I think the Pet Adoption League of Yukon is a great place with great people. There's a lot of sweet dogs there that want a home, so it was hard to choose. I still might have to go back and visit PRINCESS, she was a cute one! Please check her out of if you go. Visitors and volunteers are welcome there and I love the fact that dogs are first priority instead of google reviews or administrative BS.

2 stars purely because of the staff. This happened awhile ago, Sent in an application for a dog. I was very exciting about possibly taking home a new friend. They really wanted me to take the dog home that day but I needed my references checked. Told me back story on dog was rescued from breeding mill. Didn't have a prior name, no real history on how he is around other animals. days after my application was sent, never heard back. Nobody called any of my references or work, and found out dog had been adopted 4 days after I sent my application in. Sad but what can you do... until I talked to new owner of dog I wanted and discovered they told her diff backstory of dog!! Was surrendered by owners after losing their home. That's totally diff from breeding mill!! Seems like a cheap and shady way to pass a dog off if it's not getting any applications, just change up its story.. I even had application in and they ignored me completely. Even told them about myself and work prior and they seemed very excited about me taking the dog home. Dogs there were very nice and cats too, shame the people running it have to be so shady..

My friend was looking for a dog. She settled on one and filled out an application and they told use that we would hear something in two to three days. After not hearing anything, my friend called them on day four and five, with a call back that the dog she wanted was still there. So we took my dog there to make sure they got along, which they did, however we were ignored while we where there. We thought the dog had to go to the bathroom so they came and got her and never brought her back. We went to ask more questions and we were told the board was meeting that night and we should hear something the next day because there were 3 applications and a decision would be made that night. Well, we never heard back. My friend got a different dog and I just saw that the dog my friend wanted is still there. That poor dog could have had an awesome home for the past two weeks instead of a cold shelter. If they didn't like her, call and say she doesn't meet the qualifications form them. Now to see they lied to us. Very sad.

I wasn’t going to post anything because I really hate being that person, but after I’ve done my research and heard first hand where I got my dog from it breaks my heart. I adopted my dog last year in December. They posted pictures of puppies and I called to inquire, went down to the shelter and put in an application. When I was there I asked if I could see the puppies to hold whichever one we liked for when they went to get fixed and vetted, etc. I was told I could not see them because they were not yet vetted, totally understandable, so I asked if I could just look rather than play with them, and was still told no. I found this very odd, being that I had never experienced that and have volunteered at several shelters. I shrugged it off and waited until I was approved. None of my references were called, and I got a random text a week later saying I could pick the puppy up that night on New Year’s Eve. My boyfriend and I went to pick her up, and out of the apparent “4 or 5” that were supposed to be there there were only 2 left with their mother. These poor puppies and their mom were TERRIFIED. They were shaking in their cage and cowered from us when we went in to meet them, I was in tears I felt so bad for them. There were TONS of puppies in these kennels, which I found extremely odd, again my many years of volunteering never saw constant Inflows of that many puppies before. A woman took my $300 and handed me the puppy we picked out. She was so scared and shaking she peed on me, and I began asking questions. One girl told me they were trapped in the woods in West Virginia? Then another said they were rescued from a puppy mill? And another said they were just shy. Well which story is it? If any of those were true. The sad thing is is that this wouldn’t have stopped me from adopting her, it would’ve just been nice to get some tips and pointers on how I could help her to be more comfortable and how to make this transition as smooth as possible. We were told nothing until I started asking questions. We were told she was fixed, dewormed, and vetted, etc. they also told me she was 8 weeks old. When we got her home she cowered in a corner for almost 3 weeks, terrified especially of men. I took her to the vet and she had parasites which I had to pay for, and was told she was at least 3-4 months old and almost had all of her adult teeth! It’s now been a year and she is still terrified of people, and still scared of my boyfriend. She hates men, but warms up to women and is attached to my hip. I love her more than anything but can’t imagine where she came from. It’s truly heartbreaking. Something very shady is going on with this shelter and I will never support them again, and have spoken to many others who know way more...I won’t post on here the truth of what I was told because it’s not my place. All red flags and something should be done about it so that no other poor animals need to suffer.

I saw a puppy on their page that I was very interested in meeting on Friday of last week. They were closed until Sunday. So many people were commenting on her and asking about her, I figured there was no way she would still be there. I contacted them Sunday and asked if she was still adoptable, and they told me that she was in fact still there, and that they were hosting meet and greets with her that day and accepting applications only that day. So we went the entire way there, and we had the chance to meet her. I felt a great vibe from her and it was love at first sight. I filled out and turned in an application for her. The lady told me that they weren’t open again until Wednesday, and that I may hear something from them before then. She also told me to send a message to the director that night asking the status of my application. I did, and never received a reply back. Monday and Tuesday I waited just to hear nothing. Wednesday came along, the day they were open again, and I called them once more asking on my status. No answer, left a message and they never called me back. I had to send another text to the director that day after 2.5 hours of them being open and not hearing anything. The director told me that they had more meet n greets set up for that day, and it was told to me that they were only taking them that Sunday when I applied for her and was the only one. Later that night they texted me and asked me when I wanted to pick her up. We went and got her that night. Her kennel was disgusting, not cleaned at all. When we took her home, she smelled awful and we instantly bathed her. The water was dark brown. It took us multiple baths to get her even somewhat clean. I truly feel that I saved this dog from a bad life before the shelter, and from the shelter itself, and she is so happy and loved in her new home.

I adopted Martha on Oct. 31-I watched her on their dogs for adoption section for several months and she never got adopted-she was listed as being 9 years old, she was black and had a grey face and she wasn't what people would call cute. I'm writing this review because I found JO AND YVONNE to be great dedicated and caring individuals who want to find good homes for the homeless animals under their care and my opinion is that they truly do care. I changed Martha's name to CHANCE because that's what she was hoping for and both of us couldn't be happier as she is sitting on my lap as I write this review. My adoption experience from this shelter was great and I'm glad to have visited them.

Unfortunately the bad reviews are a more accurate portrayal of this place. The staff was rude and led me on to believe I would be getting the puppy I fell in love with. I was the one who needed to reach out, ultimately they denied my application due to my location and didn't inform me or try to work anything out. Then on top of it after trying to work it out through e-mail, they told me it was a red flag that I made a far drive to get a dog and I should adopt local. I should have listened to the other reviews.I wish it would have worked out :(

Regarding Pet Adoption League in Yukon, PA. My family and I disregarded multiple bad reviews and decided to try and adopt a dog using them. I feel terrible posting this for fear it affects the chances of these dogs finding good homes, but I feel like it really needs to be said.Multiple customers of theirs stated that dogs were getting adopted after they were promised a dog. We went to pick up a dog on Sunday, and were expecting to take her home. Shortly after we arrived they told us that Sydney Rose (St Bernard) did not receive her heart worm test and could not be adopted out. No big deal, though annoying considering the drive out and time wasted when told we could pick her up.Wednesday I message them asking what was up with Sydney's heart worm test. They informed me that the dog had a seizure and was no longer adoptable. Of course we were sad about the situation, but we then started thinking about all those bad reviews. So I had a friend call them from out of town and inquire about Sydney. They told him that she was indeed still up for adoption and to come in and meet her. She was at a fosters.Infuriated, we call the shelter to inquire about Sydney ourselves. The shelter gave us the number of the foster. The foster informs us that Sydney did in fact have a seizure, but they were not 100% sure that is was a seizure and needed to be vetted, but people we still coming to see her and inquiring about adopting her.The foster then told us to call the director. We called, no answer. My wife messaged them via facebook asking what was going on. They replied via facebook saying that they did not feel comfortable letting us adopt Sydney Rose because our 6 year old son was "too rambunctious".Though this is understandable, we feel that the situation was handled VERY VERY poorly, this should have been communicated when we met her, or on Sunday when we went to pick her up. So I sent them a message explaining that on facebook. They replied "How else should we have handled the situation", then blocked me on messenger.I can understand not being comfortable with certain living situations for certain kinds of dogs and their background, but to expect to bring a dog home, becoming emotionally attached, buying things for her, and that ripping all that away without an explanation, I think is inexcusable. If you're planning on adopting a dog through this organization, by all means, please do. These poor puppies need homes. But do NOT get your hopes up, because this has happened in one shape or form NUMEROUS times to many different families.

I'm chiming in here because of the negative reviews I feel are unwarranted. I am pretty involved in animal rescue, and know a good heart when I see it, and this place has it. I fostered there, was given two cell phone numbers of staff including Jo who runs the shelter and they answered when called. That is dedication. I know when people truly love animals and they do. The staff and volunteers are very kind, at Petco on adoption days, or at the shelter. They sometimes do turn down potential adopters because they are trying to find the best home for every animal. It's not first come first served, these are living beings. The review I see here where a person complained the dog pooped in the house, seriously?? A dog in a new home has no idea where to go potty. Biting and other behavioral issues may not show up at the shelter but if it does, to blame them and get on here to give a bad review is terrible. The shelter staff do not have a crystal ball and a bad dog is more often the result of the handler. And Pleeeease disregard old reviews! There was a different staff then. Rescue is grueling work. These folks do a fantastic job with what they have.

So I went there to look at the dogs that they had there because I was looking to adopt a dog! I was very serious about this and very excited about the experience. So I went there looking and when I got there I saw that they had these puppies and I was very interested in adopting one! They told me that they needed some more shots and they don't get them for another week. So I thought that was okay and I would wait. Within 4 days I saw a post on their Facebook and all but one puppy were gone. So they lied to me telling me that they still needed shots, and they didn't even let me know that my application was denied and went ahead to let other people adopt them, without letting me know. Do not look to adopt here, please look elsewhere.

We recently inquired about a dog, and even brought our current dog for a meet and greet. The papers were filled out, the only thing left was to wait and hear back from our landlord. We didn’t hear back for a few days, so decided to give the shelter a phone call. Heard that the dog we had been interested in, filled out the paperwork for, and had a hold on had been given up for adoption to another family. Unfortunately, we will not be back to this shelter in fear that any other dogs we place on hold may be given to another family. Our family is sad to have lost out on a good fit to our home.

I'm honestly quite mad at myself for not listening to the reviews on here. Filled out application for a puppy that we fell in love with on Saturday and was told that they would need to speak with our landlord and do a house check since the puppy was a pitbull. I told them that I would call my landlord first and that I would call them when they could contact her. Within 2 hours of leaving I had the okay from our landlord and I called Jo's number to leave a message that she could call my landlord asap and schedule a home visit with me, however her mailbox was full. Woke up the next morning and called again, successfully leaving a message. Monday, I left another message, after getting no calls back I called the shelter again and was told that the puppy was adopted the day before. I understand that there wasn't a reservation made on the puppy, however considering we were told we were the only ones to fill out an application for that puppy and that a home visit was required I was not expecting him to be gone within the 24 hours of us filling out our application, or at the very least would have expected a returned phone call.

Never have I dealt with anyone as rude and degrading as Barb at the Pet Adoption League. She was awful to deal with. I was there with mu 5 year old daughter and she said that "anyone who leaves a dog outside goes to Hell" Totally inappropriate thing to say in front of a child. She gave us nothing but a hard time in adopting a dog, in fact, we got up to leave three different times and she stopped us by saying that she was going to adopt us the dog. So, we waited and answered more of her ridiculous questions. ( I am an animal lover and believe that animals are a part of your family and should be treated as such). We recently had to have our 12 year old dog put down, so we were looking for a furry friend to complete our family. When I asked her if we could start the paperwork---we drove two hours to get there and had already waited an hour for her to start 'interview' us. She asked what the rush was and I said that I still had a 2 hour ride home and my daughter was getting tired. She said "Honestly, I don't care about your child" and with that, I walked out. I can understand that working at a shelter takes a strong person, as there are many inhumane people that do terrible things to animals, but I am not one of those people. She could not be bothered to call any references. I could not ever recommend this place to anyone. I'm sure that there may be better people working there but I have emailed them and gotten no response.

I had no problems with shelter. I adopted a dog from Yukon and two cats from Petco. Jo was very nice and I could tell she was a very caring person. The girls from Petco that were adopting out the cats from PAL were very caring. You could tell everyone from PAL is very concerned with all the animals well being. I give them tons of credit because they are so overwhelmed! !

My husband and I are ready to adopt a new dog and have decided on a rescue. We planned on visiting PAL today to see what dogs were available. I logged on to this website to view their hours and after reading these reviews, have decided to look elsewhere for a dog. I know Barb was nothing but trouble several years ago, but I was hoping with the new management, things were improved. It's sad that these people aren't more helpful and respectful of people who are truly looking for a good pet. Shelter work is hard and so is being an animal lover at times. I understand the need to interview and be certain the animal is going to a safe, loving home, but this can be done without attacking would be adopters. And if someone is interested in adopting a pet, everything should be done to make sure it happens - such as returning calls, etc. Sorry PAL, but until your reviews improve, we will look elsewhere.

Hello,I just went there Friday December 27th, 2019 - and applied to adopt and give a precious black shepherd with tan legs a forever loving home. I’m so excited and awaiting for them to approve me. I lost my 6 month old shepherd after an infection and kidney failure from birth. I was devastated! We hurried and filled out an application - because, they said no one had showed interest in him yet or applied to adopt him.I fought like hell when my shepherd Molly was ill and so did my sweet Molly. This new Shepherd means so much to me. The waiting part is hard, I just keep waiting for that call to pick the sweetheart up. They named him Baxter. One other black shepherd was left. It’s so sad to see them not in loving homes. I can’t wait to bring him home! ❤️ The volunteer was very nice. I already bought him all he will need and next will schedule training - because, he needs help socially. I see complaints on here - but, I’m glad they check references. These animals deserve the best. I just spent $7,000 to try and save my Molly at the vca with an internal medicine doctor. A animal lover should treat pets like family. These shelters can’t afford to help people with medical bills - adopting an animal Is a love commitment and financial commitment.I’m very very excited. Vicki MacFarlaneVicki Jesky is my maiden name - still use that email.

Money hungry!!! Offered an owner to take a surrender instead of the poor dog having to go through the separation. Already had my veterinarian ready to see the dog, and they insisted that the dog be surrendered to them instead of leaving with us and having a forever home. (Completely breaking my two children’s hearts, as they had already fallen in love) All this, so they could make their money through adoption fees. Even the surrender owner was disappointed by their actions. I will never return here, nor would I suggest anyone go there.

We had a positive experience with this shelter. Although, we didn't go for the specific animal we found listed online, another sweet dog found us. It takes a lot to run an organization that rescues animals. Thank you for your dedication and all that you do to rescue these animals.

I called this shelter with an interest in fostering a dog. When I first spoke to Joe he was very kind and gave me a lot of information. So I drove down to look at the dogs. When I got there I was meant by another lady I think her name was beth or barb. He was very rude and seemed very uninterested in helping me foster a dog. I stayed nice and we finally decided on a dog I would take home. He told me to come back to follow because she needed to shave the dog. The poor guy had all kinds of gross things stuck to his butt so she said she would shave him and wash him for me. The next day I couldn't wait to go pick up the new guy after work. During the day I spoke with Joe confirm I would be coming later. When I called back in the evening to tell them I was on my way I got no answer. I finally got ahold of Joe again on her private cell. She told me she could not get a hold of the other lady and that she was bad at keeping appointments. She said the dog still has not been cleaned. And that she would do it tomorrow if I wanted to come then. We will See what happens.. I feel very bad for these dogs and I wonder if anybody is really taking care of them. Adopt a dog from here please! It seems like they really need it!!!!

The truth!! We got a dog, she needed medical care they said they would help pay (go fund me, grants) we got NOTHING. All she said was bring the dog back after we spent over $700 and they would give us our money back and put her in a home where they could afford her care. It broke our hearts but we knew we couldn't afford the $800 CT and the $2400 TEkA surgery. So with heavy hearts we took her back October 8th while they were at pet land. Now a month later no money back and no sign of the dog...DID YOU PUT HER DOWN????Check out Facebook..pet adoption league Yukon pa nightmare.
