New Ken PA store was poorly stocked at 8am on 4/10/2024. And the store was dirty this morning too. Photos of understocked produce dept. follow.

Some time last week I noticed this for the second time, when the produce and fruit starts going bad, instead of throwing it away, giant eagle sells it for less. I thought I saw a great deal for raspberries for .99 cents but alas they were all molded. I could not find one package that was edible. I was able to salvage one pack of strawberries but still they should just throw rotten fruit away. I imagine an elderly woman, not looking at the fruit and just grabbing a package and placing it in her cart all to come home and realize that it was molded. It would be a one star if not for the amazing service of their employees. When I complained about the cut of the ribeye steaks, The butcher explained that the way they cut meat is according to giant eagle policy, which purposely has the butchers cut the ribeyes and leave on a lot of the chuck shoulder so you have to pay ribeye prices for a quarter pound of chuck shoulder per pound of ribeye. Amazing right? Either way his candor saved them from a 1 star review and I appreciate his honesty and they are lucky to have him. Also, their deli seems to always be out of land o lakes American and Isaly’s chipped ham.

Never any hot foods.I go here because it's convenient to my location, not because it's inexpensive, because it's not. They say their hot foods is open until 7PM, however, I go there for fried chicken on Tuesdays at 5pm and they are always out of fried chicken, and all the other hot foods are almost empty or have been sitting there for hours and hours. I asked the employees (they're all very friendly, this is not a knock on them) about it, and they said they were told by the manager not to cook anything after 5pm (prime dinner time for most mind you), that's all fine and dandy, but if you're going to do that, then don't tell people you're open until 7pm, tell them you're open until 5pm.Otherwise an ok store, aisles are wide, self scan with my phone is awesome, plenty of things in stock, store is clean, and employees are friendly (for the most part), but come on already with hot foods.

Self check out never works after scanning an item and putting it in bagging area it told me I put an extra item in bag when I only had one item that showed on screen. It then would not let me check out until an employee came over and I could not get any employee to help me.

Clean, well stocked, plenty of help, but all of that can't make up for the sky high prices. 2.00 for a bundle of scallions, .88 this very minute where I usually shop.

Still nice and clean inside of store. Which is way better than your competition at the mills. So way to go there. However, what is going on with the skinny butcher plant based products? My husband had to go the entire way to a Gordon foods to get some last wk. That is quite far. I know it sold well bc it was always slim pickings. So that was not the issue. The beyond burger that comes in a 2 pk as well...where did those go? I really don't Ike to go to the mills grocery store (won't mention the actual name) for many reasons besides the obvious. But lately they've had them and you haven't for awhile. Once again the snow thawed and it is also time for humans to take their blinders off and see all the garbage that sits between you and the choice motel. It is REALLY BAD. It's not any better on the opposite side (the hill leading up to staples). Can you all as store mgrs get together and get a plan? That garbage not only looks terrible but it is hindering wildlife. Not that I'm sure lots of you may car...but your customers do. When you leave work...just take a look at it. I feel it's worse than it ever was. No wonder why pgh banned plastic. If you go to waterworks there are NO BAGS FLOATING ALL OVER ANYWHERE. If that is what we have to do (other states have done it for yrs) then we definitely should. The 10cent charge for paper is a deterrent fee to make u think "do I really need this bag?" AND IT IS WORKING. If we can't trust adults to throw their crap away, then do what everyone else is doing. It is a lot better than seeing that trash dump on either side of your store. The motel isn't handing out bags...so it isn't really their issue to fix.

I finished my shopping at 6:30 tonight. As I was leaving the store and returning my cart in the lobby the young man who was managing the carts came over to assist me. He was very polite and personable. I left your store with a smile. You have a great employee there. Sorry I didn't get his name.

Meh. Overpriced, but a bigger selection than most grocery stores. Too bad when you find something you like, they stop carrying it soon after. No joke - happened to me DOZENS of times over past several years. Now only go there for a few items and pharmacy.

This is a really nice GE. The Starbucks employees are always so friendly and always get your drink correct, the store’s manager is constantly seen out and about in the store lending a helping hand with a smile on her face, and even the young men outside returning the carts go out of their way to be polite and assist you. A lot of great workers here!

I bought groceries here out of desperation when everywhere else was closed and let me tell you I would have rather starved. Part of this is my fault for not looking at the expiration date, but I assumed since they charge top dollar for everything that it would be safe to eat. Well I am not making that mistake again! All the yogurt and iced tea i got were a month over expired. Not to mention the take home meals were on par with restaurant prices for a meal and they all look like a step above dog food, hell, I don't even think I would feed my dogs anything they got prepared. Awful experience, another greedy corporation who don't care about anything but the bottom line.

Great prices and selection of products. I hate grocery shopping but this location has a Starbucks so it makes it much manageable. However I was there to get a small amount of dog food.lllll However, I guess you no longer have baskets .....covid maybe?? After searching around for a small cart or basket I ended up carrying 6 packs of dog food thru the store with a full coffee. Not an easy task. Then I had to wait in line for ever including the u-scan. If baskets are to hard to clean maybe give out bags or something like that. It was very difficult.

This store is clearly over priced. I'll no longer shop here after finding out that the registers don't ring up the correct price and that all the Deli scales failed inspection with Westmoreland County. Really what would be nice here would be a Meijer. Unfortunately they are a little timid to move into Pennsylvania from Ohio. The other complaint is the advantage cards being required for the self checkout and for specials. This is only used to spy on the consumers and what they buy, nothing else.People want this to be like the Market District in Fox Chapel, but the area is too economically depressed to ever see that happen unfortunately.

Automated check-out is so aggravating.Meanwhile you have employees standing next to the register to assist because the machines are faulty. 3 checkouts manned one with a blinking light waiting for a manager. Meanwhile multiple lanes with no employees. Plenty of employees wandering in the store, but no cashiers.

I bought a watermelon, lettuce and boxed tomatos that I had to toss out as soon as I got home,, I bought 2 pieces of Chicken Romano that I also had to toss, it was slimey and was like rubber. A waist of over $25.00. Very disappointed.

I only went in to check my lottery tickets (easy peasy). I decided to get more tickets because I won $3 and the lady at check out was very nice and had a great sense of humor. I told her if I win I'll be back. It's a great store, I've never had a problem there.

Management,This isn't the first time we've been disrespected from a member of your meat department when questioned about your products. To be told when we asked if thats all the meat you have left, their response was, "what does it look like"?. I dont know who's running your store but there needs to be a second look taken. Shame on you and your team. If these surveys get to upper management like I know ours at my company does, I would hope that accountability is had. If not, again, shame on you. Do better Giant Eagle.

I absolutely love how they've evolved their curbside pickup services during the pandemic. It's fast, it's easy and it's safe. Plus everyone is very friendly and helpful. Things I especially like is that the shopper will text you when they start and will give you options for substitutions if something is out of stock. And if you forget something, you can add it easily. I also really like that you can opt in to GPS to let them know you're on your way and then simply click a button when you arrive; they'll bring your order out within minutes. They're providing a much appreciated service and have been very thoughtful in developing a process that works and is incredibly convenient. My one suggestion is that they allow their staff to accept tips. The personal shoppers are amazing.

Today is Jan 3. Bought guacamole that expired 12/17/22 but didn’t notice til I got home. This location is also known to constantly have damaged freezer products. Have bought ice cream before where the seal was broken. A lot of their ice is melted and refrozen on the side of the package. I will be going to the store tomorrow with my guacamole. I don’t want my money back, it’s the principal of the matter that they sell expired products (and not just by a little bit, by weeks’ time) and damaged goods.

I have been getting my groceries delivered since I contracted Covid & became very ill. I’m impressed with the efficiency of the service. Those who pick the groceries & those who deliver them have been outstanding! Today it didn’t seem that my tip for the delivery girl didn’t seem to go through. And the only money I had was a $20 bill. She didn’t have any change so I gave her the 20. She didn’t want to accept it but I insisted. She thanked me several times. I thought all was done but she turned her car around & came back. She said when she closed out my delivery the tip I had entered showed up & she wanted to return the $20. Such honesty in such a dishonest world! You should b grateful to have great employees & they should b rewarded for their honesty!!!

I've rarely had a bad experience here. Quite a lot of the staff have worked the same store for nearly 30 years, so they must be doing something right.Their produce is the best I've found in the area, surpassing even the farmers markets. Their meat department is amazing and their deli outstanding.
