I have been a pet owner for many, many years but this was my first experience in adoption and, to be honest, I was very nervous about it. The folks at True Friends turned my fear into a painless, wonderful experience. Linda and the entire staff deserve far more than five stars. They were welcoming, helpful, understanding, patient and very professional. They answered all of my questions and made suggestions of which kitties would best fit my life style. I did not feel pressured in any way and was allowed to spend as much time with the kitties as I needed. The entire place is immaculate and the animals are given excellent care. Thanks to them I now have a wonderful new companion. Thank you so much.

This place is downright bizarre. Don't even bother.Cats are all locked up and nobodies allowed to pet them. Staff does their best to completely ignore you.We put in an application and were denied a week later, still waiting to hear why. My girlfriend had adopted animals here in years past. Her cat is well taken care of and sees a vet regularly. We've got the financial means to take care of pets. Not even mad about it, just confused that this place is even open.

Saw this cute tortie at Pet Supplies Plus in Dickson City (cats were from True Friends AWC). We had just lost our 16 y/o cat and I wasn’t ready for a new cat, but she was ready for a new home. We have never had a sweeter, affectionate, fun and interactive cat! She settled in pretty quickly and finally realized that our large, “cat loving dog” wasn’t a threat. She follows me around, loves physical contact and is talkative. No swats, bites or hissing. She’s the perfect companion kitty! Appreciate being able to adopt her. And although adoption procedures may take time, ownership can be costly for proper care. Here’s my new best feline buddy 😻

I have nothing but good things to say! They treat the animals well and I had a great experience adopting our cat Jenna from there! She was clean, well feed and you could tell treated with love and care while she was living at the shelter. She's so sweet!

We crossed the border into pa and have now adopted two dogs from True Friends. It's one of the nicest shelters I've ever been to. The dogs are clean and well taken care of. Even our groomer was surprised how nice the dogs nails were for being from a shelter. The staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful. I recommend this place to anyone looking for an animal.

Bad place. They ignore requests/applications for pets if you’re not “deemed worthy”. Rude and judge-mental people. If they knew any better, I would’ve had a cat by now! But they like to only pick and choose certain people for pets and i’m assuming I wasn’t chosen because of the area I live in. Thanks a lot. I’m actually in 2 classes in my senior year of HS for veterinary. I plan to be a vet nurse and an assistant while attending college. But apparently my family and I aren’t “worthy” enough to adopt Sam, who was in a shelter his whole life. You guys don’t even care about animals. You just want to pick and choose people who are upper middle class to take your animals. What a joke.

A wonderful no-kill facility with loving staff! I've had several experiences at the facility and working with the staff at off-site events. They have always been professional, courteous and clearly care that the animals go to the best home possible. While I haven't adopted (yet), the way I've been treated while visiting has put this place at the top of the list.

I have been to many animal shelters and this one is by far the nicest. The animals are well taken care of and the facility is very clean. They have a program to teach the dogs to be quiet and if they are you can give them a treat. The employees are very friendly and of course take great care of the animals! If you are looking to adopt I highly suggest going here first.

I wish that there was no need for animals shelters, but until humans evolve to be better, we shall persevere! As shelters go this one is amazing. It's clean, modern and staffed with very sweet staff. The animals all look healthy and well fed. Their website is up to date and easy to navigate. The big cat room is really wonderful.

Thankful for a no kill shelter in our community. Clean and filled with dogs and cats.

I've had a very poor experience with true friends. The building and facility is extremely nice. It seems more time goes into the building and looks of the business and not into the dogs. The adoption process took way to long. I understand they want to make sure each dog goes to a good loving home, but calling a few references and your vet should not take weeks.

i appreciate what you do but dont expect people to open their wallets when all you do is turn away animals that were abandoned and someone took the time to try to give them a second chance.

The place is great, staff always helpful & friendly. Had my male cat neutered during one of their monthly clinics at their place. 3 hrs an I had my baby right back. Great prices & also they carry spay & neuter certificates for like 60$, which includes a 10$ donation to their facility, a great deal for anyone needing a cat or dog fixed an they are good for 6 months from purchase date. Plus they also do shots on the male cats for a lil extra fee the day of the monthly neutering.

I found a dog on the side of the road. I didn't want to take to SPCA. I remember hearing about them and called them. I reccomend this place. They take great care of the dogs and cats. Adopt from there instead of buying. Check out their website!

Please consider adopting a dog or cat from True Friends. They care a lot about the animals in their care and it's a lot better to adopt than shop for a pet!

Place is a joke. I've adopted from there many yrs ago. I got turned down. Really!!! Was going to adopt sister cats. They all need good homes and you the girl at the desk loose the attitude. Ur nothing special.i could have given them a great home and donated a large sum of money. She really does need attitude adjustment. It's sad that so many people could give those animals good homes but from what I've read and heard almost everyone gets turned down. But want donations all the time.

So wow I just visisted true friends animal shelter for the first time in a while I used to go there all the time and pet walk and play with the animals and was very disappointed no interaction with the animals is allowed is what I was told because they respond better with out outside contact. Are you serious? But you can go on there website and look at pictures of the animals they have available. And this is a shelter privately owned now that previously got support from the local community and was donated hundreds of thousands of dallars to survive and stay open. Unreal.

On star for being clean. The experience with the staff however, rude, misinforming, and uncaring. Management should really look into how the staff treat people that go there. My kids found a dog running the back roads they picked him up so he wouldn't get hurt. Sweet dog. Called into this place was told bring him in in the morning when they opened. Ok no problem. Was told they( true friend staff) would try and find his owners. When kids got there the staff were rude and accusing my kids for just dropping off their dog. It WAS NOT their dog. Then the staff said ok we'll try and find the owners. Within the day of dropping him off. The dog was up for adoption. And my kids just happen to post found dog on FB. To find out the owners were were upset because he ran off and they couldn't find him. And have been looking since he ran off Friday nite. My issue is there should be a hold on animals that people bring in that were found. To give the true owners time to connect to their fur baby. And this place seems like they see $$ signs instead of helping out a family finding their baby. And also if it happened to be adopted and the true owners go there to get their baby. What are they going to do lie and say never seen him knowing full well he was there but now with a new family. I just hope the family gets there before Snickerdoodle aka Duke is gone.

Well hard to explain for starters we fostered bowie the Cane Corso had a few behavior problems with our other dog which is a boxer . They did have a meet and greet so we opted to take him on a foster to see how we got all got along . He came dirty we bathed him took him to the vets oh yah tell them before you won't be reimbursed. On the end of the second week my wife had him outside got a little rambishes knocked her over she did have him in mind to bring him back . By coincidence they called the next day wife told one of the attendance . Said he could be aggressive by my example I think he wants all the attention . Would fit well being only dog . He's well behaved dosent bark like crazy understands hand signals .,but just wants attention . You have these qualities and patience you will get a good dog . Remember one thing all Cane Corsos in there mind think they own you the house everything you own .You must be sure he understands who alpha is. About the one star tthe director called . The attendant stated we had a cat . That wasn't true . They made us feel we was the bad guys heck my wife cleaned his ears had his toenails cut . Even gave him glyclosamine and cleaned his mouth . There bedside manner has a lot of work . When they picked him up and he he had to drag him into a small crate. We are not stupid people but where is the care here . Heck our dog bed is bigger than his kennel . You make your decision like I said 1st tell them your taking the dog to the vets ,any dog you get .

We put in an application for Joel last week. The shelter was clean, the dogs were clean, had plenty of space, and the staff that day were very pleasant. Even telling us we could go in the cat playroom when my son was peeking in.The people I used as references let me know they had been contacted. I didn't hear anything for a day or two after the references had been contacted. So I figured that he had been adopted. When we were leaving they explained it was possible that someone with a pre approved application might come in and adopt him. Understandable. But Monday I get a call from Dori saying it all checks out but she's concerned because she didnt see him going to a home in an urban area. I let her know I have to little boys who will play nonstop with him and that when I brought my oldest up he played outside for quite some time with Joel. That he would be walked at least twice a day and we have a fenced in yard. She says ok great when can you bring in your two dogs for a meet and greet. I say Thursday the earliest but Saturday for sure. I work school hours and it's an hour drive from Scranton so I wouldn't make it in time. Ok no problem.Fast forward to today and I call near 2 like advised to ask if he is still there and if he will be there tomorrow. I'm told he will be and let them know we will be in around opening time. Then this evening I see the post that he was adopted. I try calling the shelter itself to ask why no one let us know we wouldn't be able to do the meet and greet. No answer but it's after hours so I understand. So I give Dori a call because she had given me her number during Monday's conversation and said if I had any questions give her a ring or a text.I get a call back and ask why they didn't let me know he wouldn't be there. If I hadn't seen the post we would have driven an hour with two dogs for nothing. Then I am verbally assaulted after asking around when the adoption happened because I had called in the afternoon and no one had told me he was pending adoption. I'm told I'm being ridiculous and that it was a preapproved applicant who adopted him. I try to tell her that's fine and that I just wanted to know why no one gave us a heads up. I'm trying to get a word in but she just keeps going and going. Hollering that I'm being ridiculous and she's sure I'll go and bad mouth then just like I did Griffin Pond. If you want to go over to Griffin's website you can see that I left a 4 star review about a dog I adopted 12 yrs ago, it wasn't 5 because of the issues they had been having at the time.Towards the end she is still hollering and screaming at me. Hollering that if I wanted him I would have been in sooner. I try to explain that I work at a school with disable children and can't just up and leave them without care. but I'm cut off and told "good for you." I'm shaking and crying because all I wanted to know was why no one let us know. So I throw in my couple nasty words after all the ones she has been saying to me and I hang up.She was so loud, so rude, and mean that my son in the other room could hear her and she wasn't even on speaker phone. The worst part is that if she hadn't been so awful, if she had simply said "sorry they didn't call before closing to let you know," we would have still look to them to adopt. She had told me adoptions had been slow and now I understand why

A true "no kill facility". Bring a donation of pet food or money and ask to sit in the cat room. You'll love it! Excellent if you can't have pets or you are looking to adopt. They have many breeds available and all ages.

I am confused as I received a letter today I was not approved due to insufficient vet reference, insufficient person contacts and a note on the bottom of my letter saying **neuter your dog and reapply** first of all - why? Why are you forcing me to neuter an animal we do not breed? We don't have any female dogs, as well as I informed the staff that we sent in his litter papers and were awaiting his actual UKC papers. He is an older dog that never had his papers sent in so it has been a process, we also have only had the dog for 3 months and he has had MANY medical issues, even if I planned on neutering him, my vet would not do it right now until he is stable. However, if I am not looking to adopt a female dog and or all the dogs I am interested in from True friends will be fixed- why am I forced to put an already sick animal thru a surgery to be eligible??!Also, my vet is old school and uses a paper card system to keep track of customers. They told Mikayla they had no record of me. But this was due to My card being pulled as I had medication to pick up for my dog. This was the day I applied to true friends and I explained to mikalya to please call back, or i could have vet call back, as the clinic would verify my information and it was a clerical error - she said she would call back next business day. Also, all of my personal references called back within 48hrs of being contacted and the phone was not answered - it just rang and rang and a fax tone came on after many many rings. We take excellent care of our dog - we own our home and it is a shame that you would decline our application for 1. Lies (my references and vet were never able to actually give a reference for me and my husband) and 2. Bc you force everyone to fix their animals even in situations like mine.

I got denied because apparently I told them i had a fenced in yard when i know i put on the application that i did not but i did tell them it was partially fenced .Which is true. And then the girl over the phone was rude. I would have provided a loving home but instead I basically get called a liar over the phone. I gave 3 stars because i know they at least take care of the animals. Just staff can use some work.

A friend put in an application for a pet called up there only to be told manager had it would get back NOTHING sent e-mail NOTHING . Even if they felt home wasn't suitable an answer should have been given. Yet , Sadly the pet is still sitting at the shelter waiting to be adopted. This was way over a month ago. I get it that for some they came from abuse but if there is no abuse in the home that is trying to adopt and they take their animals to the vet when needed than that should be enough. Is it not abuse for letting a dog sit in a cell 24-7 some for month's-- where is that fair . When you stop to think that a person who is willing / can pay the high fee ( which I get that ) point being it still come's with issues and what some would call a " mutt" ( not me but... ) trying to make a point . YOU CAN NOT SAVE THEM ALL as we all would like to but this is why there are still puppy mill's and breeder's who know there are to many for them to all get adopted and in some star's high kill shelter's that put down so dam many it isn't funny. Shelter's need to rethink their adoption process and give some benefit of the doubt even we adult's can't always protect our child 100% all the time from life as much as we try to be the very best .

The place was clean. They seem to take good care of the animals. The staff are rude and hostel. They don't let you get in a word. Dory is the worst she acts like she's animal phycologist. That would be joke.

I adopted a American stratfford terrier pit she is 14 years old and such a loving dog.. her name is Remmy . I have a 4 year old mix breed the two play all around the house.. she plays just like a puppy. she has a wonderful personality and is vocal when she needs to go or her water bowl is empty and the most important when she need tlc... which gives freely. I saw her face on facebook and just had to go to true friends and get her... since she has been with me here in Ohio where m oved snhortly after I got her she has been spade and had lots of blood work and diet change and is very healthy. I will get another senior dog when the time comes True Friends gave her good care but I am happy that she is with me
