We adopted our dog from HAL and it was a great experience. We've now had her for 4+ months and it's been amazing to see the adolescent dog that she has flourished into. This was our first time adopting and our first time owning a dog. It can be a bit overwhelming if you don't do your research but HAL gave us all of the necessary information and made this process as seamless as possible. Also, be mindful that you need to be ready to dedicate the appropriate amount of time/resources to this rescue animal when you bring them home. We were able to potty and crate train our pup early on because we were VERY consistent. We socialized her to sights/sounds and gave her a routine which made her transition to apartment and city living really smooth. We are forever thankful for HAL giving us our girl. Please also keep in mind that these people are volunteering their own time to help place these dogs in homes that will be the right fit. Trust the process and you will end up with the right pup!

my family was interested in a dog, we received a call to take the next step. we met the dog & loved her. foster said she needed medical results back, we waited almost 3 weeks, a few texts back & forth then nothing. if youre gonna go forward with meeting a dog atleast make sure the foster isnt gonna lie

We were truly blessed when we got Loki! We had lost 2 senior dogs in the last 6 months and we were lost and heartboken. Our 8 year old Abby was equally heartboken with the loss of her 2 brothers. We got Loki 9/16/23 and have been smiling ever since. Thank you home at last!!!

I adopted my first dog from Home at Last. She was a 10 year old GSD, former puppy mill mom. The mill owners had planned to shoot her. I am so grateful that HAL saved her. We have since adopted 2 more ex puppy mill moms saved by HAL. The process was easy. The fosters look for the best home for the individual dog.

We were so happy with our experience with Home At Last. We got our pup at 4months but they have dogs of all ages and sizes! They were detailed and asked for pictures of our house and two none family member references when we applied. We had to pick a dog and be available in order to get a dog!

HAL blessed me with both of my girls 5 years apart. Both foster mommas that I worked with were responsive, supportive and clearly had the ladies’ needs as priority. They worked very closely with me to make sure that the girls were comfortable and ready for their forever home and I am so lucky it is with me! At this point, we are a three lady pack and their happiness brings me the best joys! I can’t thank Home at Last enough for rescuing my two love bugs and for bringing them into my life.

I was looking to adopt a cat in 2020 and to date there are four very fun and interesting personalities. It was a win win experience all around with positive interactions from their foster mom to my very happy adoptions from Home at Last Rescue

I know adopting is very hard and HAL rescue is one of the best organizations! A lot of the SPACAs and shelters have so many dogs and are understaffed that they don’t know the dogs that well. It’s hard to match them up with potential dog parents. Where as HAL really tries their best at doing this. They rescue pups and have a foster lined up. It all depends on the foster and how they decide to choose a family based on the application and communication. It took me months but it was worth it. I got the best rescue mill dog ever! His foster mom is amazing and we’re still in touch. I’m just over 4 months with my little man and it’s been amazing to see him come out of his shell. I’m so lucky, Phin and I are match made in heaven.

QUESTION ANY AND ALL RESCUES THAT SPAY AND NEUTER BEFORE 6MOS OF AGE. NO REPUTABLE VET WILL DO IT BECAUSE HORMONES ARE NEEDED TO PROPERLY DEVELOP PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY. WOULD YOU GIVE A 5 YR OLD GIRL A HYSTERECTOMY? THESE RESCUES USE IT AS SALES PERK TO GET TO NEXT FEE/PET. SIGNING A CONTRACT TO SPAY AT PROPER AGE AND FOLLOW UP ISNT DONE OUT OF GREED. TORN ACLs, personality disorders, etc. is risked. Disgusting.

Fourth year with my catahoula. There was a bit of drama at the beginning about her heartworm status but it was all resolved and I would definitely use them again. I was advised in advance that she had been feral and had massive fear issues.

What an awesome experience! So many beautiful people who truly care and love these puppies and dogs. These Angels 😇 are doing absolutely everything to give the Best Possible New Start to Life! Every single person and Dog and Puppy I met were Unbelievable! As being in a Rescue Group Prior I have never seen the absolute bond of the volunteers!I am blessed to now be the Mommy of a beautiful little 10 week old Yorkie Mix... ELLIOTT AKA RODDY. The incredible story of how they rescue these little girls and boys are A-Typical. They share so much information to let you know that you are adopting a sheer miracle. All of the pups and dogs are completely precious and so well loved by the Foster's.An Incredible Organization of beautiful people! I am blessed and honored truly to have adopted from them. I look forward to going back.

My new dog Finn. Saved me. This was my second dog from Home At Last. Yes they check the house. They want to be sure it is a fit. They want the dog to be safe and happy. I went to meet and great. I asked tons of questions. My dog or 4 legged hubby is in training and has his own greeting card. To this day I'm good friends with foster mother. This place is a GOD sent and is the best in the area. They're work is long hours and emotional.

We adopted both our dogs through HAL and we couldnt be happier! One came straight up from down south and the pickup was so easy! Our other dog was fostered up here and the line of communication with the foster was awesome! They really worked hard to make sure each dog was a perfect match. We are so grateful for such a great experience!

We adopted our puppy on Sept 25 2022. So far she is doing great. She is settled in well and her potty training is coming along. She definitely loves us and shows us everyday. We couldn't be an happier with Coco (siri. -was her name atthe shelter). She is loved by the entire family. She has made our family complete. All the people here were over the top friendly and honest. We will highly recommend this shelter. Thank you HAL.

I've had my puppy for about a month and I'm so happy with my experience. He came mostly potty trained and sleeps through the night. A healthy happy boy! Of course, we're still working on training in other aspects. Communication from HAL was clear. The pick-up on Saturday was easy peasy. I know others who've adopted from here and are also happy with their experiences!

We were told our adoption was good for getting a puppy from the organization and they told us to name the puppy, 48 hours before we were supposed to pick him up, after we had gone shopping for him, and after our children had been talking non-stop about their new puppy for over a week, they told us we couldn't adopt him due to lack of veterinary records from our deceased dogs. Both of whom lived to be in their teens and were very well taken care of. This organization is extremely unprofessional and the "foster mom," Sue Murphy after telling us several times the dog was ours was very rude on the phone. Regardless of their policies, to tell a family with young children that a dog is theirs without being absolutely sure is wrong. My children have been in tears all day. We would have made that pups life wonderful and were so ready to make him part of our family. To not allow the adoption last minute was just heartless, especially knowing we had young children.

This place SUCKS!! My family and I went to adopt a puppy that we had filled out the paperwork for and applied like the website told us to. As soon as we went to their opening, another family got there 2 minutes earlier than us and was able to adopt the pup, despite NOT having any paperwork done like the rest of us. They turned us down as well as someone else who had been looking at the pup longer than us!! I’m assuming the family bribed them for the dog. YOU BRIBE EM YOU GET EM. Never going back here again.

Professional and organized! We submitted an application for a puppy that we ultimately did not get, however, they kept track of our application and targeted us for a situation requiring immediate placement of a similar breed. I'm sure they can't do this with every application, but it really showed me how organized and caring they are. Great job HAL!

Adopted a 9 month old pup recently and it's been a rocky road so far. I expected it to be this way as I took a week off from work for him to adapt, however when they tell you the dog is trained in any forms, that is not the case or maybe it's hit or miss depending on the foster. My little guy pees in the house constantly, now I did expect this but was hoping he was actually was trained a bit. Definitely not a bad place to adopt, be prepared, do your research and you'll work out just fine. Love this little guy more and more each day.

Best experience. We were connected with our dogs foster mom and she was very communicative and helped us through the whole process. Its years later and we still send his foster updates every now and then. Highly recommended HAL!

I had been approved to adopt a puppy from Home at Last and drove to PA on a Saturday to pick her up. There was an issue contacting my leasing office for approval on their end and when I got to talk to someone they said a lab was on the restricted breeds list, which was not true. I talked to the volunteers and they agreed to hold my puppy until I talked to the property manager and got the correct information. I rushed home from work on Monday to talk to the property manager and after paying all the fees she approved me to adopt my lab puppy. I quickly contacted the HAL volunteers who I had been in contact with to inform them of the great news. One told me they had adopted my puppy to someone else and then dodged the rest of my messages while the other never responded. The puppies here are fantastic, its the humans you have to look out for.

My parents recently adopted Jacob who was listed as "energetic". He is a 1 year old pup and was surrendered by a family because of his "high energy levels".Within 4 days, my mother was bitten twice by this dog. He presented extremely possessive and territorial behavior. We felt unsafe in our home with his erratic and violent tendencies. Home At Last picked Jacob up and a day later put him back on their website, not altering his description to warn potential families of his recent attacks.Meanwhile, Home At Last does not offer refunds, so they can continue to repost aggressive and violent dogs while collecting $300-$400 over and over. We have called the state representative and may file a report with the police.

Would give 0 stars if I could. My family member filled out an application for a dog here in the beginning of august and we still have not been contacted. We attended a meet and greet to see the dog and fell in love with him, let the people at the rescue know that we were interested and already filled out an application. It’s been a month since we filled out the initial application as well as 8 follow up emails and have not heard back at all. The rescue keeps posting this dog on Facebook and Instagram and we were ready to give him a home. It’s a shame that no one responded to us… I wouldn’t recommend this place.

I recently adopted a dog named Maddie. I was told she was wonderful with kids and everyone she meets. I have a very large family with lots of kids and I made sure to ask lots of questions from the family who was fostering her that she is okay with kids. When my family came over to visit, Maddie showed a lot of territorial aggression towards my brother and uncle and nipped at all of my nephews. I did some research and found her breed of dog nips kids as they believe they need to heard them kids. I spend a lot of money on training but it got to the point I was worried for the safety of my family. I made the decision to return Maddie and expressed to the organization she is not okay with kids. I reached out to the rescue and wrote a very long letter expression I understand I can’t get money back but I would like a credit due to I was misled on this dog. They advised they are sorry but no credits or refunds. I found out they adopted this dog out to a family with two small kids. I am not sure if this family is informed of the issues I had but I surly hope they were informed. HAL was very well warned of the issues I experienced with her. It’s unfortunate that I have a lot of family who has adopted from this rescue and we are all VERY disappointed. I would never recommend this rescue to anyone.

Home At Last is a wonderful organization that has saved thousands of dogs thanks to a network of very dedicated volunteers. These volunteers open their homes to dogs in need and work hard to find the perfect home for them. Disappointed to see people making claims that decisions about adoptions would be made based on money or to suggest that volunteers have anything but the best interest of the dogs at heart. Thank you to all HAL volunteers that work so hard to save dogs every single day.

Lousy experience you jump thru hoops give vet info contact home info no call back just a last minute reply with no follow up that dog has been adopted. whoever is placing the dog doesn't follow up and they make a choice without contacting you. Poor outfit you can't see any dogs at the facility and responses are only done thru e mail,7 people who I know have tried and said they where disgusted and tried brandywine spca to get a pet. They have a open program called clear the shelters where you can meet get verification and ask questions.I wouldn't want to be a dog looking for a home in this place.

We saw a beautiful silver lab puppy, on a Thursday morning, did the application, went to see the pup, and fell in love, brought her home that night.

Lots of bad reviews in here demanding above-and-beyond customer service from fosters who volunteer their time and money to get these dogs out of shelters and into forever homes.HAL does their best to do right by the dog, regardless of whether it makes entitled people grumpy. If that means changing adopters at the last minute because it’s a better fit, HAL will do it. If that means trying to work an adopter through a dog’s behavioral issues rather than “returning” it like Amazon package, HAL will do it. HAL has a dog trainer on the board that advises adopters, and provides necessary paperwork and training exercises. Dogs are hard work! and in the contract adopters read and sign, they are committing to that work.To the people leaving poor reviews on here because they expected perfectly house-trained and behaved dogs from a rescue, as well as instant responsiveness from a 100% volunteer-based organization, and a full refund when they can’t commit to training a dog in need through behavior problems…I hope I never meet your kids. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I foster for Home At Last as well as have adopted from this rescue (my boy Kiko! Instagram: kikotherescue)! All of my foster dogs from this rescue have been such wonderful experiences and a delight to have. The feeling of having your foster dog get adopted into a wonderful, forever home is the best feeling in the world. Home At Last runs solely based on volunteers, and I cannot express how committed and passionate the volunteers are. From the 7 AM transports every Saturday to bring up dogs from the south to PA, to weekly supply pick ups, weekly meet and greets, events, home visits, and so much more, I am so glad to be a part of a group that is so dedicated and hard-working to give homeless dogs a home. The volunteers work so hard to find each foster dog a perfect home. If there is any delay in communication from fosters about interest in adopting a dog, please know that it takes time to process applications and to communicate with applicants. (: So thankful for all our wonderful supporters, fosters, volunteers, and adopters of Home At Last Dog Rescue!

This organization DEMANDS fostered puppies must be spayed/neutered at 8 weeks!!!We offered to care for our fostered puppies until the age of 6 months (many vet recommended age) and we were DENIED.We also offered to pay for our 3 fostered puppies and get them spayed/neutered by our vet and we were DENIED!We were told when and which vet to take them for surgery. We reluctantly took them and received a phone call that afternoon stating ONE OF OUR PUPPIES DIED!!!!Needless to say, we are devasted.
