My neighbor recommended VCA Smoketown a few yrs ago and we first saw Dr. Shellenberger who was great with my dog, Liam. We moved out of Lancaster and I never switched vets because I love the people there. When Liam had all kinds of GI issues recently, after 3 ER visits, Dr. O’Neill saw us for what was supposed to be a wellness visit. All I can say is that she was meant to be a veterinarian. I don’t know how she maintains such calm, patience and empathy. She spent 45 minutes on the floor with Liam and the second visit came out to answer my questions after his subcutaneous fluids were given. She saw him sitting at the door and said he probably needs to go out so I can walk outside with you guys. She also said she would like to know how he is doing the next day and eventhough she was not working to please contact her. Thank you is not enough to express how grateful I am for the care we’ve received at VCA. Liam is acting like his old guy (almost 12) self again:)

Banfield had been my dog Kyanos’ vet since he was a puppy. 12-1/2 years. When I tried to get him into Banfield after he stopped eating, we couldn’t get an appointment for a week. I called Smoketown Veterinary Hospital and they were able to see him the same day. They saw Kyanos one time. Just once. Unfortunately, the news was bad and we had to say goodbye to our boy. A few days after our visit, I received this card in the mail. I bawled when I opened it. I’m sure it’s something they do for every pet that passes, but compare their card to the text we received from Banfield asking for a “rating” after we closed his account. Smoketown VCA saw him one time and they expressed more love and compassion than his vet of 12 years. When we are ready for our next pup, they will be our vet for life.

Smoketown VCA has friendly staff and is reasonably priced. We get our pup regular vet visits, grooming, and boarding here. We're very pleased with their service. 🐾👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

My son is away for military training and we are watching his beloved animals. His baby Ella (Boston Terrier) had either jumped or fell off of our retaining wall. We took her to his vet who did xrays and an exam. She broke both bones in her leg. The vet didn't feel comfortable with doing the surger so they sent us to VCA. they took her in right away and did surgery the same day. We picked her up the next day and she has been doing fabulously. The Dr and staff were awesome and kept in touch with me every step of the way. We are so very greatful for everything they did for us and for her.. it was expensive but you have to understand the expertise the Drs offer. The equipment they use and state of the art facilities. Its no different then you having the same thing done. I highly recommend pet insurance after this. I am.forever greatful for all they did

We took our dog Bailey here yesterday to have blood work done and get her updated booster! They were really great with Bailey (the veterinarian and his assistant) was amazing too! She is a very hyper puppy and she worked really well with her! I would definitely rate this veterinary office a 5 out of 5! We take our other dog here too and they are always able to fit us in rather quickly! Also, they are priced fair! I would recommend them for your furry friends😁

They were so good with my dog. Had a very good experience. Would go there again. Just wish they wouldn't be so expensive. But guess all Vets are. But they are one of the best in my opinion.

I WAS CHARGED NEARLY 350 DOLLARS FOR THIS PLACE TO MAKE MY CAT WORSE AND CLAIM HE HAS CANCER WITHOUT DOING ANY TESTS WHATSOEVER TO EVEN CONFIRM SUCH A DIAGNOSIS.I brought my cat here to be treated for his eye and the first thing they did was recommend an ophthalmologist, and then they rattled off several different possibilities as to what *could* be the cause including it potentially being cancer, which lead to them suggesting euthanasia, to which I immediately said no to because hello, I didn't even have an actual diagnosis and it's not like my cat was on his death bed, he was behaving 100% normally (eating, drinking, playing, purring, snuggling). Regardless of me saying no, they still brought out a paper with prices to euthanize my cat on it.They told me I'd have some time to think about it and then eventually told me they would take him in the back and give him a trans-dermal pain medication. They also sent me home with some eye drops as well. The pain medication they gave him caused him to go completely off the freaking wall when I got him home. He was slamming his head (aggressively) against everything. He stopped eating completely, he stopped drinking, and he was 100% in worse condition then what he had been when I took him in there. For what it's worth the only warning they gave me was that the pain medication could cause drowsiness...which it also did not, but rather my cat couldn't get comfortable enough to even sleep. He was absolutely WIRED. He also did not want me to hold him, which there has not been a day in this cats 13 years of life that he hasn't wanted me to hold him.I immediately went out and spent almost 100 dollars on cat food trying ANYTHING and everything to get him to eat; which again, he had ZERO problems eating or drinking before I brought him to this place. When I called to voice my concerns they basically said it wasn't their fault and that it was simply his cancer progressing...which keep in mind there were NO diagnostics tests done to even confirm any kind of cancer diagnosis but they were stating it like it was something 100% set it stone. After an EXTREMELY STRESSFUL week, my cat FINALLY started eating and drinking again and is now thankfully back to his post-visit self. Playing, purring, all of it!I will NEVER ever take any pet of mine to this place again. Absolutely insane that I was charged hundreds of dollars to not only NOT help my cat whatsoever but to instead add a horrific week to both my cat and my life.

After having trouble finding a vet office we liked, we found VCA and have been there for years. The vets and staff are fabulous and do a great job making pets feels comfortable. And they have Care plans that help ease getting your pet the care they need at an affordable price.

I just HAD to leave a review for Dr Furey!!! We've only seen her at our most recent visit but I can't stress enough how wonderful she was! Her and the lovely tech we saw, Madi, were so great and gentle with my slightly nervous cat. We cracked jokes and they showered him in so many compliments! They also were able to give great advice for other things he wasn't being seen for. I've never had a bad experience with VCA regardless of provider though! Yes VCA is more expensive than other vets but it's honestly so worth it when you consider how kind the clinical team is & how easy it is to get in the schedule.

When I first brought my liver spotted dalmatian to Smoketown we delt with Dr. Shellenburger. He was absolutely amazing. My dog is deaf in one ear and the doctor admitted to not seeing a hearing test before and was very interested in it. Dr. Shellenburger then needed to treat my dog for crystals in his urine at a different appointment and said he was going to do some research on the breed to make sure he is treating him correctly. And then it happened, we had to see other Doctors in the practice. The last visit was the end of the road as it was the 2nd time seeing the same female doctor. My daughter and I have researched Dalmatians more then I should probably admitted. However, we had no choice due to the incompetency of the other doctors in the practice. My dog has terrible allergies and his paws breakout and become completely raw and bloody, they had no clue other then try this or try that. I asked for his nails to be clipped at his last appointment, and I had to finish them when he got home. But of course I was charged full price $17.20 for it. He had a slight ear infection per the "cytology ear" test they did at $69.45, they then gave me ear cleaner that was $25.00 and sold on Amazon for $12.00. As we insisted on doing something more for his paws, ear infection and allergies, the doctor brushed off what we had to say because she was the doctor. But we know our dogs needs and the breeds needs obviously better then the doctor. However, she didn't want to hear what we had to say. It was obvious the way she dismissed our concerns. My dog also has horrible reactions to his vaccinations and must have benadryl first. Which we had to inform them of and they charged me $31.10. He went into the vet because he needed his Vaccines, but because the receptionist (Cathy) was beyond rude she didn't even let me talk when I called and I was charged for an "exam/consultation medical condition" aka, an office visit at $115.00 dollars! And if she would have done a full exam then she would have found the 2 new skin tags he has. However she did not even bother doing her job. They were to busy in the back talking and laughing to take care of their clients. I would never recommend this vet clinic to anyone!! I had to spend even more money for a second opinion and antibiotics. I absolutely DO NOT recommend taking any animal to this Veterinarian!

April 3, 2021 we noticed our cat Traveler started vomiting. Normally he doesn't ever have this problem and has never had hairball issues. He progressively got worse over the weekend and stopped eating. We were able to get him in that Monday for xrays and again on Tuesday after he got IV fluids. Tuesday evening the news came. Traveler needed life saving surgery and it needed to happen immediately. While we were never prepared to have a vet bill of that magnitude we couldn't put a price on his life. He was one of the family and he has a personality like no other. While they had to move their schedule to rush him in on Wednesday for emergency surgery, Dr. Russo and the entire staff did not disappoint. Dr. Russo is very knowledgeable and provided personal updates about how everything went. After we took him home we still get post-op care and check-ins to see how Traveler is making out. We want to thank everyone at smoketown animal hospital especially Dr. Russo.

Without a doubt, this is the best vet around. We have taken our dog there for the last 14 years and she has been well taken care of. They were able to get us in for a same day appointment when she was in pain, they've called to check up on her after she was in the Pet ER, and they send get well cards. Not only that, the doctors are kind and knowledgeable. We moved out of the area 6 years ago but still drive almost an hour to the office because we know our dog is in the best hands. Customer service is top notch and we couldn't imagine going anywhere else!

We wanted to get our 6 month old pup spayd but she also needed to have 2 baby teeth pulled. Our regular vet could not do the teeth pulling...so to avoid having her put under 2xs...we looked into Smoketown Vet & they took us in almost immediately...even being new patients. We met with the Dr one week later & had her surgery the next week. She did very well with them...even staying overnight in a pen...which she dislikes at home. They took such good care of her all thru out the night. I would highly recommend this business for your pets. Only reason we are not staying with them is because of distance.

Very friendly both doctors and employees. I take my cat here and they make her feel at home as much as they can. Whenever you call they are always willing to help with any questions you may have. Very satisfied with VCA SMOKETOWN and would recommend them to anyone who asks me where a good Vet isI was at VCA Smoketown Animal Hospital today for Sweeties yearly visit. Even though she gets very scared Dr. Shellenberger is so gentle and she knows he is not going to hurt her. She settles down when he comes in as he is always talking to her. We really like VCA Vet and I really like Dr. Shellenberger. I am very happy bringing Sweetie here and everyone in the office are so nice and very congenial. Thank you Dr. Shellenberger for taking such good care of my little girl Sweetie🐾

I just wanna say this vet has been so nice to us. She dealt with Ajax from the beginning he was a rescue. A loving amazing dog. We never wished to put him down. He was not so great with leaving me for the vet they always came out and let me be there with him so they could check him. They have been amazing for our other two as well. But this card made us cry she wrote in it and it was heartfelt. I know the reviews online for this place are all over the place but it really made us feel better about what happened and taking OUR PETS to THEM. Even the process of that day. They are amazing and really truly care.

We took one of my leopard geckos here because she refused to eat, and the exotics specialist basically told me I was doing everything wrong and told me to make all of these changes, none of which helped the situation, only made it worse to the point of where she had to be rehomed because the things they suggested never got to the root of the problem and only added on top of it. Later I took a different gecko to them because he was having issues (which we later figured out were caused by the changes they recommended to the environment) and they told us his shedding was stuck and that ointment would make it go away. It only got worse and worse until we took him to another vet who told us it was most likely an infection but due to how close it was to his eye they could not lance it to be sure. They did the best they could to help him but shortly after this he died. This could have been prevented if this vet actually got to the root of the issues that we had.

PLEASE RREAD BEFORE LEAVING LOVED ONES FOR BOARDING! So I loved this place not sure what happened. I left my Pug Capone for 5 days while I went on family vacation all was well. We get a call a day later that an employee fed Capone all of his 5 days worth of wet food in one single meal. At this point I’m like how could this happen it was written down twice by me and the host at the desk. So now with Capone being away from home now has none of the food he is used to.Fast forward to the end of the trip. We were promised someone would be there from the hours of 8am and 9am on Sunday so that my sister could pick him up *we were paying for this* they ended up waiting over an hour to get Capone no one answered the phones or texts till 9:06! Then lied to me saying that my sister was in the back of the hospital the whole time which makes no sense! The only reason this was not a 1 star is because they gave us Sunday free! NOT HOW YOU RUN A BUSINESS! Especially one so crucial! Definitely think twice.

This was my first time at this veterinary office. I was quite pleased with the cleanliness of the areas and the staff was very friendly. I brought my cat in for a wellness check and she too felt comfortable in this atmosphere . Our vet tech was very pleasant and helpful (I apologize for not remembering your name) Dr. Ru Moon was very thorough and informative. Blu loved her kitty bag of goodies and all the informative literature received when checking out. I would definitely recommend this veterinary office.

We just got back from picking up our 1yr old dog Luna from her 1st stay in the kennel. Let me say, the staff is so friendly and caring. I thought Luna was going to be stressed when I picked her up. She was not. She was Happy and relaxed. If there were more stars to.be given they would get them. I highly recommend them.. Thank you for making Luna so comfortable..

This staff and establishment has never failed us. And now, on top of always finding a way to fit us into their schedule or to help us over the phone, they have a 24 hour answering service for after hour care so we don't have to worry until the next day or even contemplate going to the horrible PETS emergency place. The VCA is the ONLY place I now know of that offers that kind of good and reputable service. Hopefully this will put P.E.T.S out of business. The VCA is all around incredible!
