There are so many dogs that need homes. I saw the place was clean but small and I felt by watching the people there that they truly care for and take care of the dogs in their care. I was unable to adopt because the 3 I was interested in could not be housed with cats. I rescued a cat 2 yrs ago so it wouldn't work out for me.

Always had a great experience with them. Unfortunately someone kept letting my family's dog off his leash. They always took good care of him. But, because he passed away, I will definitely miss the staff.

Worst shelter. I was trying to adopt a dog awhile ago and I couldn’t get a call back, no one ever answered the phone either. They wouldn’t let me come look at the dogs, and they wanted so much documentation it was ridiculous. These pets sleep in cages, have no families, and will be put down if not adopted out and I don’t feel like they even try to get them homes. I was almost begging to give a dog a good home and they just make it too hard. Give these pets a chance!

I gave 2 stars because I had a great interaction years ago when I adopted a dog there. But only 2 because just had a bad experience there. I checked online, got the phone number and called them. They wont answer the phone, but have a message. The message says they are open from 1 to 4pm for adoptions and visiting. So I drove 45 minutes over there and was turned away at the door! They say you need to have an approved application to even see if they have any dog we would like to adopt. Why would we need to go to hassle of getting approved if we dont know if they have any dogs suitable? And the manager was kinda rude about it, only spoke throuhh a cracked open door. I will now go to some other shelter that is happy to adopt dogs without such foolishness. Years ago had a great experience and adopted a great dog. Today felt as if I was intruding on their space and not allowed in. They blame it on covid.........poor excuse.

I stopped in to check on a dog that was brought into the shelter, although the dog was not my dog, I had great concern for it's well being. The staff was wonderful, very kind, understanding and helpful. The staff has a heart of gold for caring for all these animals. The animals here get great care. If you are looking for a cat or dog, that you may have lost or looking for one to adopt. I suggest you stop at this shelter and see for yourself. Maybe you will even leave with a dog or cat that you can give it a forever home.

Wanted to get a dog for the kids over the winter and was told they don't adopt pets at Christmas time. That's a great concept since people give them as gifts and get rid of them 2 months later but for a family that lost their pet of 14 years in October we weren't ready to get another dog immediately. 2 months later we decided it was time, only to be told we couldn't even try to adopt one

The staff and conditions at the shelter were great, staff was extemely friendly. About two weeks ago I adopted a basenji mix, on pickup day the staff was great gave us lots of coupons, and sent us home w abrand new harness and probably fifty dollars in fee toys, great experience

This place is a complete joke! We loved a dog there and put in an application. My previous dog had puppies. All of whom are in great homes and all of which are fixed. She right in front of my kids told us we should have killed them all. They DO NOT care about these animals at all and are sick. Girl gets her kicks playing God. Has no compassion and does not care about any animal living or dying. Do not support this shelter by keeping it open. Take your animals to Hillside no kill. Disgusting pig.

This places is a sad excuse for a shelter. My grandma found a dog. It was pretty aggressive and she had already needed to keep it over night since this place is not open for but a few hours a day. When my brother took it to the shelter they told him that the dog would need to be put down and gave us phone numbers for non kill shelters in the area. They REFUSED to take this dog that is not ours and told us that he should be killed.Who does that help? Are they not there to take lost animals?

Surrendered a stray not so long ago here. A gorgeous white and gray dog with unique markings. I hope she finds her owners or a good home. She was very sweet with me but she was terrified of one of the male volunteers and when going to her cage was apparently terrified of all the dogs barking at her and the door slamming behind her. Hopefully someone adopts her soon.

Not to say that it's an absolutely horrible place (since they have good intentions), but it sucks hardcore. The over-complicated application process is somewhat akin to buying a house. The only difference is that the real estate agent doesn't make you feel like a criminal. I understand the reason for a thorough interview, but they're rudely insistent and borderline abusive. The conditions for the dogs aren't great (let's face it, it's a shelter), but they don't really care for them either. We went there two separate times, a week apart; the dog we visited had the same sticky gook behind its ear, and it was still grimy. When asking about the dog's adoption status, we just got badgered about the application again. It was purely obnoxious. If you really want to rescue a pet, get it from FaceBook or Craigslist. The pets that don't make it off there usually end up at the shelter anyway, in the cold concrete enclosures. Rescue the animals from *them*.If you STILL want to get something from the shelter, just tell them you never had a pet. Make your life easier.

This place is RUDE AND THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been in this place many times and they called me the property manager of my own house not the OWNER which you can check public record I am the owner of my house so they refused to let me adopt an animal. They have misleading signs for free books in the place. Then say you can't take that book? There's only like maybe 15 books there with a sign that says free!!! The lady who manages that place needs to take care of the animals Not her CAR or her Pocket Book!!!

First of all I know for a fact no one in this shelter would say kill them all or ever have that word come out of any staff members mouths. Christine runs the shelter she cares about all the animals there!!! She will even go to the homes and check in on the pets no one would say this animal needs to be killed wow who ever is saying this was apparently denied an animal from the shelter to adopt GOOD HOMES ONLY!! It’s clean and all the animals are taken care of very well they are very good to all the animals there yea ok someone there said this animal should be killed ????? no way never said!!!! you were denied a pet to adopt they are very selective on who they will let adopt there if they feel you aren’t a good person u won’t get a pet there Christine is not crazy she never hurt any animal there who ever said some of the things I read on here should be in a mental hospital it’s sick to even write what the nuts wrote on here. So don’t hate because u were denied a pet it’s not shut down because it’s a great shelter instead of worrying about the staff drop food off or blankets or toys not write BS about the place or the staff if they feel u are unfit u will not get a pet from there that’s a great thing obviously after reading some of these sick msgs I’m glad you didn’t get a pet the place is clean I’m so mad how people said someone there said this animal should be killed it would be put to sleep not killed sicko people get a life already your not fit to have a pet after what I read Christine and all the staff at the hazleton animal shelter keep up the good work and do not listen to the freaks who write bad stuff they are just mad they couldn’t get a pet good jobSusan

I did not enjoy it at all. I went to look to adopt a puppy and while we were looking at one specifically the woman who claims shes the manager comes behind my sister and i and claims that we were teasing the dog when in all reality we were only looking at the puppy and thinking on whether to adopt him or not. Because of this, my sister and i went to the frobt desk to ask another worker about another dog they had brought in only a couple minutes ago. She decides to follow us and tell the same front desk worker that we were going to speak with to watch the cameras because someone walked into her back room (which she is spray painting with dogs in the next room where we also where and the smell is so strong we were only looking for a puppy for 6-7 minutes and felt like we were breathing it for hours) and looking directly at us like we were in the back. We decided not to put mind to it and were waiting for the front desk worker to finish what we were doing and then she decides to ask us what wr were waiting for. We told her we would like to speak to the other worker and then says to us with an uneeded attitude "well i'm the manager here and whatever you want to talk to her about you can talk to me". We left at this point because she was being unneccesarily rude to us and kept trying to start a fight for no reason.

They spay and neuter the animals way to early and it’s not healthy. An animal shouldn’t get fixed till it’s ariund 6 months and they will do it at like 2 not to mention going under anesthesia to young is not good for any animal. P.S. I’m a vet tech so I know what I’m talking about.

I feel bad for all the animals that have to exist here. The Hazleton Animal Shelter is a dirty place, terribly managed. After a bad experience I tried to contact Attorney Peter Fagan (President of the Board), who left a brief message on my answering machine, that he would check on the situation and get back, but has not. Actually when I call him, I get hung up on. To the manager Christina, you should be ashamed driving a Cadillac Escalade while the animals are so poorly taken care of. Do they pay that well, or are you "using" the Bette Bushman donation? Please search Hazleton Animal Shelter Bette Bushman donation. I hope they found #5 a good home and did not kill this beautiful pup.

I was glad my dog who was lost was found and placed at the shelter, the downside was he was placed in a cage with nothing to lay on but concrete no water in cage and in spite of the 12 hours he was there became infested with fleas. The shelter is poorly mismanaged and dirty.

Very rude and abrupt shelter workers. Didn't seem to care if the animals were adopted or not. Not knowledgeable about dogs. Impatient and not helpful. High kill shelter. I guess they would rather euthanize than adopt
