Anyone who has had the honor of loving a pet knows they are more than an animal. They are an essential part of your family and more importantly your heart. After 14 years of unconditional love, my family and I had to say goodbye to our cherished dog, Reptar. The past year of Reptar’s life, Middle Road Animal Clinic, did absolutely everything and anything they could to give him the absolute best quality of life. They always got us in when Reptar was having a bad day, they treated us all so kindly as we had to come to the decision to say good bye, and they showed truly how much they care for each pet when the time finally came to let him go. The decision was gut wrenching and still hurts to this day, but their kind gestures like a personalize cremation box, plastered paw print, and unexpected hand written card made the transition for my family a little easier. When ever our hearts heal enough to let another dog in, we will most definitely be bringing them here, because this team has full heartedly also become a part of our family!

We randomly chose this veterinary office as it’s very close to our home and well reviewed. We love it… such a personal feel, we see the same vets and techs all of the time, everyone is incredibly friendly and thorough. Our GSD Zoe also approves and loves it here.

We chose this veterinarian because of the proximity to our house... I would choose them 10 times over. They're truly wonderful and take such good care of my dog Zoe. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I love their availability, all of their staff and the wonderful care. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed. Just look at my happy babe awaiting surgery, that's how at ease she was.

I love middle road animal clinic. I’ve been a customer of Middle Road Animal Clinic for about 15 years. They cared for my childhood dog as well and I’ve always appreciated the attention the doc and the whole staff gave my babies and I. They even went the extra mile for us when my cat got hit by a car, had a dislocated leg and had to get her tail amputated. She is 100% again emotionally and they were able to save most of her beautiful floofy tail (aka dignity). Much thanks to them and much recommended to you.

I have nothing but good things to say about Middle Road. The staff is always really nice, and I feel like they're truly compassionate people. They remember my pets, which is so sweet. They love them like their own. I also think we have received good advice concerning surgery -- Another vet (not in the PGH area) performed a surgery, but my cat's tumors came back. A year later, Dr. Lohr and his team performed the same procedure. Since then she's been clear. Every one's case is going to be different, but in ours, I think it was handled extremely well and the quality of care definitely contributed to our pet having a healthier life.

My wife and I moved into the area recently and we have three cats in our family. We took our middle child in for a checkup, he normally has a difficult time being handled but Dr. Lohr and the vet assistance had him purring during examination within minutes. Very professional, my wife and I could not be happier to have a kind, reliable and safe place to bring our family.

We have taken our young dog who is a hound mix here for two years now. Unfortunately, we will be finding a new vet. The nurses and medical assistance are perfectly polite, but the doctor lacks any bedside manner, and seems to have no knowledge of how to deal with dogs who have any form of even slight anxiety. There is no recognition that the vet is a stressful place for dogs, particularly ones that are already a little more nervous. The doctor makes no attempt to calm my dog down or make the dog comfortable, but rather goes right to a muzzle, which I understand can sometimes be required for safety, but you would help would be a last resort after it was confirmed necessary.. The nurse was great and helped calm the dog down, but the doctor basically just administers the shots and gives you a big bill - no attempt to perform an actual examination. I would say this place is fine if you have a cat or a small and calm dog, but if you have a dog that requires a little more attention, or perhaps just behaves like a dog, you can find a vet that is better equipped to deal with it.

Wonderful. I dropped a ferrel cat off that I trapped to get her fixed because she kept getting pregnant they did wonderful with her . Everyone was nice there and polite ❤️ they was wonderful working me in with my work schedule and getting in so they did a wonderful job with her being not so friendly because she was afraid of people.. AMAZING

I have been taking my pet to Middle Road Animal Clinic for approx 7 years now. Ownership has since changed hands but the quality of service has only gotten better! They staff are very friendly and loving towards the pets. The newly remodeled space is modern, comfortable, and pleasing to the eye! The veterinarian is extremely talented in handling angry, irritated, disgruntled animals! I was actually amazing how well he was able to relax and calm my pet! Prices are reasonable for basic well visit and immunizations. I like that the clinic has an online pharmacy to utilize! Making an appointment is easy. The office is organized. I choose to take my pet here and I don't see myself going anywhere else!

I have gone to this vet twice now and have had very unpleasant experiences both times. On the first visit I sat in a room waiting for over an hour before anyone came in. The appointment was quick and I then sat for another 15 minutes before being checked out. The customer service was okay and they seemed nice enough so I took my dog back. That was a huge mistake! My dog had pneumonia so they told us to wait in the car and call when we got there so they could get room ready. They made my husband wait in the car for an HOUR with our dog before allowing him in the building. They then explained nothing to him and mostly talked to one another. He said he felt like another spoke in the wheel and was being pushed out. When he tried to ask questions, the vet got visibly irritated cause he was trying to hurry. That is terrible customer service to make someone wait an hour in their car and rush them through their appointment which he paid $300 for. We will definitely not be going back. Staff is nice enough but does not directly answer questions and made us wait over an hour both times we went. My time is valuable too.

Last year I moved all of our pets (4 cats, 2 dogs) over to Middle Road Animal Clinic after a few years of going to what I can only describe as a "big box store" veterinarian hospital. First impression was that Dr. Lohr and his staff had our pets' best interests more in mind than the previous place. Second impression was the bill was notably lower than the previous place. And I'm always happy to support a small business.Quick anecdote: This morning one of our dogs had a booster shot appointment and I totally lost track of time, looking at the clock almost an hour after I was supposed to have been there. I called MRAC right away and not only was the staff understanding of my mistake but they were able to get us rescheduled for later the same day.I feel really good about bringing our small zoo to Dr. Lohr and his staff as often as we do. High fives all around!

My cat died under Dr. Lohr's care. Never felt my cat was in good care.First, he would not refill my prescription for my cat unless I did this radio isotope treatment. It didn't work at all. My cat was doing somewhat well with the medicine and the isotope treatment basically killed her.There was also a whole 3 days delay to communicate the blood work result. It was supposed to come in Friday and only got a call on Monday. Those 3 days could have meant the difference between life and death. When the clinic said they would get back to me on Friday, they should have and not waited until Monday.Again, there were so many questions that were never answered on what I need to do about this complicated medical procedure. He hinted that since I had only "come in" 2 times before, he wasn't as available to answer questions.Smaller things also. First when drawing blood, Dr. Lohr was celebrating and joking around with his staff when he got the needle in the vein. My cat is sick and he's treating it like a game. The staff looked so aghast and uncomfortable and I was there thinking what is going on. From that point on, I felt very uncomfortable asking him to draw blood.The blood results turned out to be false and my cat was in no condition for the isotope treatment. He did not inform that this could be the case but was pushing the isotope treatment.His referral was also horrible. They did not care about my cat and treated my cat badly.If I do it over again, I would never choose to go there.Or, if you're already a customer and questioning the suggestions, I suggest you seek a second opinion to confirm everything. From my experience, I would not fully trust his recommendations or analysis.

I waited almost an hour to be seen for my apt. Vet was awkward and made me feel uncomfortable about asking for a health checkup. His focus was on vaccinations which I stated was not the reason for my visit. I was charged extra because the apt took longer than 20 minutes!? I would not recommend-plenty of other vets that have better social skills and make their customers feel welcomed and are respectful of our individual choices.

We called Middle Road Animal Clinic first thing in the morning for a minor emergency with our cat and they scheduled an appointment for us within the next hour. The vet and staff are extremely nice and explain everything they're checking for to you. I was also surprised that for a small office, the price of the visit and medication for our cat was very reasonable. I had such a nice experience with the team that they will now be our regular vet when we have any health issues with our pets.

We took our family pet to this vet for years. Our pet had the same reoccurring infection which Middle Road Vets always treated with pharmaceutical drugs...We finally grew frustrated at the cost and frequency of our visits and decided to try another vet. During our first visit with our new vet they recommended a non pharmaceutical treatment that has cleared up our pets issue in a very short time. I'm now left with a number of questions as to why Middle Road Vets never recommended this solution and whether the mistreatment of our pet was out of greed, incompetence or for some other reason that I cannot recognize. Not happy with this business. Would not recommend for any serious type of treatment.

I found MRAC by sheer good fortune. They were taking new patients (a true godsend during these crazy times), and were able to see us the following week. Our sweet kitty was dealing with what we thought was an intestinal blockage but Dr. Lohr referred us to a specialist for more diagnostics. They fit us in the following day based on his request, which I am so thankful for. Unfortunately, it wasn't a blockage like we thought, but aggressive lymphoma and we had no choice but to humanely euthanize her. We went back to MRAC for the euthanasia and truly, from the bottom of my heart, this office is full of the kindest, most empathetic staff you can even imagine. They went above and beyond for us, despite having only met our cat twice. We will never forget their kindness. We now have two new babies and have already brought them in to meet the doctor and the staff. We would travel from anywhere to bring our animals to MRAC for care. They are true gems in the Pittsburgh veterinary community.

We visited Middle Road Animal Clinic for the first time today. We have had our cat, Marvin, for three years. We recently moved to this side of the city, so we needed to find a new vet. I was so impressed! The staff handled and kept Marvin calmer than I have ever seen him at a vet appointment. I am so happy we found where we will go year after year. Thank you so much!

Dr. Lohr and his team were extremely kind, patient and gentle with my elderly cat who needed a tooth extracted. They really cared about his well being and have gone above and beyond in his follow up visits making sure his recovery is safe and pain-free as much as possible. Highly recommend!!

I have taken my dog here for the past 6 years. Most of my visits were for routine shots and did not have any issues, however my past few experiences have very unprofessional. I took my dog in May for his yearly shots and the vet recommended giving him a preventative Lyme disease vaccine. He had a severe allergic reaction to it so I had to bring him back in for a shot of Benadryl. The vet was very rude and made it seem like it was a huge inconvenience for him to deal with my dog for an emergency. On top of that they kept trying to push me to continue giving him additional rounds of the vaccine despite his reaction. Also I had to take my dog to the emergency vet 2 times in the past month for gastrointestinal issues he has been having lately. He started having another flare up and the antibiotics he received in the ER have helped him, so I called MRAC to see if they could see him to get another prescription before it turned into an emergency (this was during regular business hours by the way). The vet had a staff member return my call and told me the doctor said there is nothing he could do for him!!! I Immediately called another local vet, not only did they get me an appointment 2 hours later they prescribed the same medications and testing to find out the problem and my dog hasn’t had any issues since. From my past experiences and some of the other comments on here Dr. Lohr should consider changing Middle Rd Animal Clinic to a cat only clinic because there is a total lack of patience and understanding when it comes to providing adequate care for dogs. I have found an excellent vet now and will never return to Middle Road Animal Clinic.

This practice has been under new ownership and management for several years. All of Dr. Lohr's staff, including himself, are extremely professional, energetic, caring and knowledgeable. My dog has been seen here numerous times for dental work, vaccines, surgery and behavioral issues in the past year. I feel very confident with their abilities and practice. I've used five different vets in the Pittsburgh and surrounding area over the past 24 years and he's the best. Prices are good and comparable.

My puppy Amos, got his eye scratched while playing with our cat this morning. My normal vet doesn't open until 11, so I called Middle Road. I called at 9:15 am, and they made me an appointment for 9:40. Aside from fitting me in so quickly, they answered all of my questions, and made me feel confident Amos would be fine. The staff was great and super friendly! The phone was ringing off the hook while I was there, and I see why. I definitely found my new vet.

Called into having my dog be seen. My dog is visiting from out of town. Based on a verbal description a “head nurse” stated they cannot help my dog. No willing to see records from my normal vet or talking to my vet. Just a hard “no” to see my little dog. Very unprofessional and very rude. Go somewhere else where they would at least try to help your dog out.

My beloved pet suffered a stroke in the middle of the night. I called Dr Lohr first thing in the morning and left a message as they were closed that day. I called an at home euthanasia service but they were unable to come for 24 hours. Dr Lohr called me back within minutes of my first call and told me to bring her down. I know they were supposed to be closed but they had everything prepared for us. The office was quiet and respectful. Everything was explained to me in detail. After the first injection to relax her, Dr. Lohr and his assistant gave me time alone with her to say my goodbyes. I have never experienced this before. She was in no pain and unaware of what would follow. Dr Lohr reconsidered shaving her beautiful fur and gave her the second injection. It was so quiet and peacefully accomplished, unlike other experiences I had had in the past at other vets. I am so glad I took her back to the Dr Lohr and the kind folks that cared for her these past few years. I'm so glad they were there for Sasha and me this last final time.
