This was at The Pet Pub, not Pets Come First. After applying shampoo to my dog I began to feel ill. I felt faint and began vomiting. I asked a little girl outside of the self-wash to get help. The assistant groomer came in and rinsed and blew my dog dry until my son arrived. She even asked if I wanted her to apply his conditioner, which I declined. She had done so much already. Aside from this incident, the staff is very friendly and engaging. I highly recommend The Pet Pub for your pets needs.

For my fellow animal lovers, it's known how it tugs at your heart badly, to come to a shelter and see (feel) the excitement and hopefulness of all of the animals who want nothing more than for you to stop at their cage and "choose them" to take home... However, I will say with 100% certainty, that the staff at Pets Come First not only work their butts off to keep the animals happy, but most definitely the people that visit. At the end of the day, the more animals you can help give a healthy, loving home to, is what it's all about. And that's just what they did for my daughter and I. They not only made our day/week/month, but they made the next *15 years* with our new family member, and we cannot thank you all enough. From my heart to my tears, thank you (especially to Deb, for putting up with my crazy unpredictable schedule)

They were really nice people. We got two tabby stray/feral cats, they were basically scared babies. They are both 12 now & living the life! ♥️

We had a wonderful visit with PCF when we adopted our dog, Louis, last June. They are really nice and caring people. They answered any questions that we had for our adoption. I liked how they called our references to make sure that we were the perfect family for Louis. We always look forward to the Dog Jog every year!

Very caring group of volunteers taking care of animals who their previous owners gave away and taking the necessary steps find them loving homes. The adoption fee was more than reasonable considering everything that they do to insure the health and well being of the pets residing there. I will definitely refer PETS COME FIRST to anyone looking to adopt a furry family member.

The staff here are super friendly, outgoing, and knowledgeable. The staff can seem rude to some people (especially undergraduates) but they really care for the animals and want the best for them. This place is open by appt only for dogs the last time I visited. People can stop by anytime to see the cats and rabbits. There is this one senior cat (Ira) there that is the sweetest boy and looks young for his tender age (11yrs old). I would love to see him adopted ❤

This place is the BEST rescue in this area. The staff and volunteers are so kind and loving to their animals. Highly recommend adopting from this organization!

I’ve gotten 4 cats here total. Two a few months ago, and the other two around four years ago. Every time I’ve gone it’s always been a positive experience. The shelter is always clean, and l the animals always food & water. The workers are always so helpful and informative on any type of questions or concerns you could think of. This will always be my go to place to adopt from. Even if you’re not ready to adopt an animal, it’s a good place to buy their yearly Subaru raffle tickets which also helps out the shelter! Great overall.

We adopted our Margie over a year ago. She has since passed due to cancer. The staff over there is very nice and listens to what you are looking for. The adoption process was very fast and affordable. They make sure you have everything to make your new friend happy in their transition. I would strongly recommend them to anyone wanting a forever friend.

We went here to look for a lovely cat to add to our family and when we got there everything went good, even filled out an application to adopt this one lovely boy. This one lady told me that I would expect a call by Tuesday at the latest. What I didn't expect is for our landlord to tell me that they called her she told them we are allowed to have a cat, yet they never contacted our references or ever updated us on our application status. I 100% don't recommend going there unless you want all your hopes to go down the drain. We ended up getting a 5 month old kitten from one of my sisters friends whose cat had kittens and they didn't want them since it wasn't a planned pregnancy with the mother cat. We got him for free and he is a lovely sweet boy. But the moral of this rating and comment is don't go there and waste your precious time just to be let down in the end. Go to Centre County Paws or any other shelter, and if you don't find a good animal there which is so rare, then look for someone who is giving kittens to a good home. Trust me it's better than being let down and having your kids hearts and hopes down as well.

Excellent service! Staff is very kind and animals are gentle. The building is well taken care of as are the animals. My friend is considering getting a dog from this centre and staff were very informative about each option. Given the chance I'd definitely adopt from here!!

No regards for the small exotic animals in their care. Berates VOLUNTEERS for caring PROPERLY for the animals in their care and then bans them from volunteering again. Oif only they read maybe ONE article online that states the proper care for rabbits, regardless if in a home environment or shelter environment. Bunnies should be not be kept in a hot room, limited enrichment, limited SPACE, and unclean living environment but thats exactly what this company does and think it's appropriate. This place does NOT value pets and does not put them first. Solely in it for the profit. And next time please tell your workers not to bash the animals in their care "I could care less about bunnies and guinea pigs" should not come out of someone's mouth who is supposed to be caring for them. Will be promoting this review on countless other platforms to hopefully educate the people looking to the buisness as a resource and instead can go somewhere where the animals are kept safe and are cared for.

Very kind and sincere. We have had Mandy( changed it to Mindy) for 5 days now and she is learning how to be a dog. We love her so much and so glad she is a part of our family. Many thanks to everyone at PCF.

We went to Center County Paws fist, but were turned down because they were very strict with their adoption rules! We got our Puppy from Pets Come First about two months ago and they were very accommodating! They sent us home with a chew toy, some baggies a full bag of treats, a leash and a collar and a few other extras! They have a very wide variety of pets at Pets Come First! Our Puppy also came with a full check up and all of his shots up to date! I would definitely recommend Pets Come First to anyone searching for a perfect new pet!

I've adopted two animals from here over the years. A couple years ago we adopted a hound dog from PCF. After getting him home and bonding with him, we learned he had a history of aggression. I was bitten and injured not too long after learning this. We eventually had to bring him back.During this experience, we were never once told about this dog's behavioral issues from his past. When we voiced our concern, it was dismissed. We had two children under the age of 9 and there was clearly a safety concern. When I brought him back, I was obviously heartbroken. I had set up the drop off several days prior and no one was there to receive the dog. I knocked on the front glass door and literally had someone look at me and walk away until I began pounding on it. I had to wait for over an hour until someone finally let me in the back door. This was a horrible experience and I will never deal with these people in the future.

Not clean, I volunteered way back and it was terrible. There has been an incredible amount of dog fights, cat deaths, and overall rudeness by everyone who worked there. So many animals here are sick and diseased. Many things in the building are out of date and barely working. It's unbelievable.

This adoption group is a total joke! I've been doing alot of research and have called about 20 people who've agreed to help me try to get these animals adopted or transferred into other animal adoption places. I will have this place shut down if it's the only thing I accomplish before I'm dead! These animals don't have a voice to say how They are treated but us humans do and it's our job to do right by these poor animals. They had my dog chemically restrained by being on meds he didn't even need. Not to mention they had him for 5 weeks and he was skin and bones even after that long of having him (they think 1/2 cups of dog food is enough to fill up a 90ib dog). They had the guts to blame his skin and bones appearance on his lymes but yet it only took me 15 days to fill him out. The lady who runs the place along with all the other I had to talk to was so cold hearted and acts like she is a big saving grace to these animals haha more like a big dark curse. She is only concerned about making money off these poor animals instead of the right reasons. Pretty sure her name is Donna.

The people were rude and knew nothing about animals. I had one personal experience with this place and one through a friend. My friend adopted a dog from here that apparently had a history of aggressive behavior, but they failed to disclose that upon adoption, which led to someone being badly hurt.I personally tried to adopt a dog from here, but received no contact. My application was ignored, and they stopped taking my phone calls. They don't seem to have a great attitude towards certain types of dogs and are not the most pleasant people to deal with.

We had to take my wife's cats 8-10 years old to there because after selling the house we couldn't have any pets where we are living at now. It was very hard but you made it a smooth transition and we pray they found a new home for her babies? Thank you very much 💞😊❤️

This is our 5th pet from them! 3 guinea pigs a cat and now one crazy rabbit! We love the staff and what Pets Come First does for the surrounding area. If you're thinking of adopting a pet, please, this is the place to do it.

Very very very horrible place! As soon as you enter, you smell poop! This place looks fine, so i don't understand how it has such a horrible smell as you get inside. I am not the type of person who writes bad reviews just like that, but something has been giving me a disturbed feeling, as i had the experience from Pets come first few weeks ago. So i found a cat (that looked like an indoor cat) from the vairo blvd area, unfortunately the Centre county paws was closed that day and Petco didn't have the microchip scanner, but they were the ones who suggested that i take this cat to Pets come First. When I found him on the street, which was full of rush traffic, I just decided to immediately take him to the shcelter and get him scanned, and obviously I didn't have a pet carrier (not that often you would expect to see a cat in the middle of the peak hour traffic after work) As soon as I got there (after 20min drive) with the cat, I can called the shelter and explained to them about the situation so that they can be prepared for it. A girl, I seriously regret not asking her name, she was kind of young and short hair who works at the shelter, came to the car with a micro chip scanner and a pet carrier. She decided to open the car door, and she EXPECTED that the cat (who was absolutely paranoid after a car ride with strangers) would just get into the pet carrier and she can scan. To her surprise and not to ours, as soon as she opened the door, the cat ran away. She decided to ran behind the cat to catch him. To our misfortunate, the cat ran and she was unable to get him. She then decided to blame us for not bringing the cat in a pet carrier and she concluded the case and said "the cat is not going to come back, forget it". I mean, is this how a shelter should be dealing with issues like this? Giving up on something that quickly? After she just rudely walked away, we decided to look for the cat, and we saw him walk into the woods, still regret the way she dealt with the situation and feel bad for our choice to bring it to "Pets come First"!

My husband and I found a cat in poor condition wandering around bellefonte and took it in to pets come first because unfortunately paws was closed that day. The three women my husband had to deal with were very rude to him and insinuated that we should have left this cat to roam around dangerous streets instead of bringing it in to them. After explaining to them that we could not keep the cat ourselves because I am allergic and we already have two dogs, they finally said they would scan it for microchip. They found out it did have a microchip then said we should have left the cat alone since we found it near where the owners lives. How am I supposed to know that a cat that looks like it's starving and covered in flea bites and missing fur had a family?? They then said they had to take it because of the microchip. So I hope to God they actually find this cats family or find it a loving home instead of leaving it for dead on the streets as they suggested to us. I would suggest not taking any stray animals to them if possible. They don't seem to want to actually do anything to help these animals.
