Came up on the fall colors train and had enough time to check this place out before heading back down. It's a very cool part of Oregon history and an amazing machine. I can only imagine how noisy it was as it moved along shoveling rocks and spitting them out. It definitely left it mark on the landscape and mother nature is slowly taking it back over time.. definitely worth checking out if you are in the area..

Went for a drive and happened across this amazing dredge restoration, only saw outside as people were decorating inside for Halloween and it was unclear if the general public was allowed access during this time.We had a very nice lunch at the cannabis store grill, a nice Philly cheesesteak with fries, OMG so flavorful and what an amazing roll they put it on, and the fries were cooked perfectly!!All in all a wonderful time was had in Sumpter Oregon, friendly folks, quaint little town, and rich in gold mining history!

A must visit place and super cool town. The old Sumpter Valley gold Dredge is Amazing thing to see with your own eyes.It was a floating factory out in the middle of nowhere - they must have railed all the components on site then built it. Amazing feat of human ingenuity. Be sure to walk the short trail to witness how much material this dredge ever moved when it was under operation.

The Sumptner Dredge has been restored nicely. It was very interesting to walk through and experience the history. There's a nice short overlook path that offers great views for pictures. There is a demonstration on how to pan for gold, but only on weekends. You get to try it yourself.Parking: Very large gravel parking lot.

What a Wonder this dredge must've been in its day!! You can see where it was used byall the tailings around town . Well taken cared of, located in the middle of town. Nice walking path around the dredge with benches along the way. Couple kiosks with pictures of it in use. Just approximately 30 miles out of Baker City on hwy 7, follow signs. They filmed "Ghost Mine" just out of town on Cracker Creek (Crescent Mine).

This is a cool old gold mining dredge that has been restored and now sits in a park area in the historic gold mining town of Sumpter Oregon where the dredge operated for many years. There is also a nature path there for you to explore the dredge ponds, flowers and a board walk to enter and explore the dredge. As you come through the valley you'll see the old dredge piles running along the river as you come to the turn-off for Sumpter.I love it up there. As always leave it better than you found it and enjoy 😉.

An amazing display of Unique mining history. The restoration on this dredge is pretty amazing! You can walk inside and see all the original mechanics. Multiple plaques tell how everything works. There is also a nice trail with lots of mining relics.

Handicap accessibility ♿️. Guided tours are every hour on the dot. Last tour is normally 2pm. We went on a Sunday at 2 pm. I highly recommend taking a guided tour. There is a path you can take to look at some old mining equipment nearby with benches along the path. Picnic tables are available nearby. They also have a hands on pan for gold activity for the whole family to try, but that is $5 per person. There is a train ride the whole family can take. I took a picture 📸 how much and what times. It has a nice little gift shop with informational posters throughout, and you can get a picture in and around some real mining carts in front of the visitor center 😀.Overall, it is a great family activity to do.

Good history. Amazing large dredge. No cost to walk through it or park. From there we brought a gold pan and panned for gold. Still not rich. Swam in the creek while we were there. Very cold!

This is an interesting stop on your drive down the historic highway. The dredge is huge, and it is interesting reading about how the floating barge dug out the lake that it would float in as it went along, filling it up as it passed. You can walk through the dredge, and kids will enjoy the sheer size of the machinery. If you have extra time, you can take the drive up the dredge path to Bourne, an old ghost town.

I went during the Covid Scare, there are no guided tours and the info center is not open but the dredge itself is so cool. I wish more levels were open to see more stuff. I will come back when there are tours to glean even more information
