Fun adventure, everything was orchestrated well. The cowboys were a hoot! Would love to come back on a longer ride next time. The train robbers handed out candy during the "robbery." Thanks for the good show. Their mustaches were awesome.

Amazing day 10/20 on the Foliage Train. These guys are all volunteers & it is such an amazing program. Volunteers/Conductors are friendly and knowledgeable and the colors in the Sumpter Valley are to die for right now!

Very fun ride on a stream train. Original building in a town started in 1865 adds to the experience. Beautiful fall foliage.

VERY friendly staff and great customer service. For the overall train ride, we were underwhelmed for the Christmas Train (evening ride at 6pm). We were hoping for lights or more festive sites on the ride as it was at night but the lights in the car were on so you couldn't really see outside and there were only Christmas lights at the station. Santa did come give the kids a bell at the end of the ride, there were cookies/warm drinks at the station before/after. FYI - There are 2 open window cars and 2 heated, closed cars, so get there early and bring warm clothes.

Wonderful! The steam engine was amazing, the volunteers very friendly and helpful, and the town was lovely. Had such a great time that we're already planning a return trip very soon to explore both the town and the area's many walking trails.

I was really hoping this was going to be a magical Christmas experience for my kids, but it's just an hour train ride in an open train car. There's no speakers for Christmas music or the reading of the polar Express. When we got there the cookie try was empty and the hot cocoa area was packed. You get what you pay for, it this was only $50 bucks.

I really want to give this more stars, but it's just not 5 stars. It was an okay experience. The train ride is $25 round trip. However, I was expecting more on the ride. There was zero talking by the employees. It would have been 100% better if there was a pa system throughout the train ride explaining the history. For example there were 5 super old graves along the mine tailings. Who were they? Were they miners? There were tailings everywhere. How much gold came out of there in the day? There was so much I wanted to know! The little Depot was alright. The gal running it, Kim, (I think was her name)she was wonderful and very accommodating. The little layover in Sumpter was cool. There was a corn dog stand that had one of the best corn dogs ever!

This was a nice stop on the Elkhorn Scenic Byway. The train ride is nice, but we were left in the dark about the history. The volunteers were very nice, but they should have training in the history and use the PA system to spread that information.

We loved the photos and history. The rail line dates back to the 1880's and some of the passenger cars are almost as old. Very nostalgic.

Given the depot is in the middle of nowhere (i.e. Sumpter), it was a surprisingly good time. The steam train is a hundred years old and kept alive through volunteer labor. On our trip, our train was attacked by bandits after the gold on the train which was defended by sheriffs in costume. Our four-year-old loved it. There's a limited shop on both ends and everyone was respectful of Covid. I don't know if the bathrooms are wheelchair-accessible but the train itself is. I can totally recommend.

Take the train. Tip the rail hands. They donate their time for our friends and family to enjoy a part of great history. Amazing crew and people there in Sumpter, OR.

This was amazing to do with our 2 year old and 7 month old! The train ride was short enough that the kids stayed interested the whole time and getting off to walk around the dredge was a wonderful leg stretch, as well as exploration for the fam. My son slept with his train for 2 nights after the experience! We'll be coming back for one of the holiday trains for sure.

We had a great time and enjoyed the Train robbery. The actors were interactive and worked hard to engage the children on board. If you have a chance, go to the Dredge area and watch the show before or after you are in the show.

The agents were full of fabulous historical information about the Sumpter gold rush days. The dredge is a must see. The train Ride with the old west actors in their period costumes and a real life train robbery is unforgettable fun

Sincerely unhappy with the train ride. We had signed up for the train ride without the robbery since we have a 2yo and 5yo, yet they ended up doing the train robbery without notifying us. They said they made an announcement, but we showed up 20 minutes early and heard no such thing. We even walked by 2 or 3 "conductors" and they certainly could have said something. My son and daughter were terrified when the robbery was happening, and even them walking up and down the aisle was distracting and nerve wracking. We wanted to get off immediately, and was very disheartened by the whole experience. You basically drive the road into Sumpter and see the same stuff you would on the train.

This is our second time and once again we totally enjoy it. We like the open cars. Our conductor, Jace was a plus for us. We'll probably go again, we like steam trains.

Sumpter valley Railroad was a wonderful experience! Very family friendly and I would highly recommend it. They have tours on both steam and diesel engines. The steam engine costs a little more but gives you the real feeling of the old west adventure.

My family has had a cabin in Sumpter for over 50 years and I will never get tired of the people and unique history this place has to offer. Very strongly recommend a visit, but not in winter unless you REALLY like snow!

We love the Sumpter Railroad, amazing volunteers to keep a part of history alive and well. Great day trip and activity for our little ones. We've done the Halloween and Christmas rides, hoping to add a summer ride with bandits!

First time being here. I loved it, quaint little town. Did the train ride out of McEwen and had a blast. While there in Sumpter watched an outhouse race.Walked around the town and enjoyed how many rode quads around town.Had a blast checking out the old dredge. An amazing place to visit and worth the trip.
