Aaron is very knowledgeable and helpful. He's never given us bad advice on fish or corals, and has gotten our special requests filled quickly. His store is great for serious hobbiests, but he's a good source for those new to the hobby also.

Been coming here for a couple years now. I've always receive knowledgeable guidance. The fish I've bought are always healthy and have never had any issues.

Really sad. All the tanks were dirty, you couldn’t see the coral for sale because there was algae all over the glass. Dead fish in the aquariums. Employee was just sitting on his phone instead of tending the tanks that obviously need help. Avoid if you care about your aquariums.

Kinda unkept. It looks like Dad had a passion but his son doesn’t because it could look really nice but is just kinda run down. That aside, they have a big variety of aquatic creatures and aquarium necessities.

This place has definately gone downhill over the years. Not a lot of equipment/supplies available and the tanks were not that impressive. Most of the tanks were dark and the anemones were sick looking with green sludge..This used to be a Nice clean place with Good conversation. I doubt I'll return unless it gets cleaned up and becomes more welcoming.

I live in sweet home and come here to buy my fish/supplies.The owner is always cool. Good service, doesn't give me the salesmen's tactic which is why I shop here.I asked what he has, what I need, etc etc and we have a conversation while we get the fish/stuff.Been coming here for a few years and its my go to.My only complaint with this place is they don't update there hours on Google when they aren't open or closed.Drove there last week, Google said open but there was a paper sign saying closed from x date and time - x date.If you see this review, please update your Google hours.I have gone to every fish/aquarium store in Springfield and Eugene and this is still the best one.Locations good.Parking is ok.Service is simple and easy.Always had healthy fish.

I been to this store as well as every other fish store in the Eugene and Springfield area...I have kept fish aquariums most of my life and feel confident in my opinion about fish stores...This is a great fish store! The gentleman that I am familiar with is knowledgeable and kind (I assume he is the owner and operator). He has a good selection and the fish and plants are generally healthy. Some of the tanks are not as clean as possible, but not what I would consider negligent or uncaring. I attribute this to being a small business with little ability to hire additional help. The store is old and it is dimly lit and the shelves are dusty...I figure the store lighting is dim to minimize the algae growth that occurs from brighter lighting...The tanks are all lit and most fish are labeled (there have been a few that were not clearly labeled)...The store could be improved with some updates and a deep cleaning, but it isn't a bad place to buy fish and plants...Plenty of clean, modern fish stores have unhealthy fish...with unknowledgeable employees...This store is worth a visit if you enjoy smaller businesses and variety...

I like this store. Others may not find it to their liking but the guy there is knowledgeable and usually has unique things. Other people may not appreciate the way that the store is laid out or how it's set up. I can look past that. I can enjoy the opportunity to explore some of the unique items that are there.

I shop here as much as I can. Aaron has been awesome every time I've ever been in and he's answered all questions I've had and in the way that shows he actually knows what he's talking about and not just regurgitating canned responses. Healthy stock and a great selection of less common fish! I need more tanks so I can come here more often!

I love this store! The owner is a great guy and he really knows a lot about fish and you can tell he's passionate about the hobby. He also gives quality advice that I've been able to pass on to others to help them be better fish keepers. He always has a huge variety of fish, which is really important because he's the last fish local fish store in the area. The price of fish, plants, and supplies are all very reasonable. Go check this place out and support local businesses!

I purchased 6 neon tetras from this store, and they all died within 24hours. One died in the bag on its way to my house. When I called dude was totally unconcerned. He did offer replacements but I'll never put his fish in my tank again

Super dark lighting makes it feel a bit unwelcoming and the person working did ask if we needed anything but then disappeared the rest of the visit so I did not end up buying anything. I liked the selection and saw fish I hadn't seen in other stores.i may have visited on a low stock day because despite the selection there wasn't a whole lot of fish in the tanks and didn't have some of the ones labeled on the tank.

Really nice guy runs the place. Answered questions without hesitation. Nice selection of both tropical and saltwater fish. We unfortunately did not find what we were looking for. If I had bigger tanks I could have gone nuts in there! Will definitely be going in again! Would have given a 5 star rating if he would have had my baby neons.

This place is great! I didn't catch the guy's name who was working, but he is a tall guy with slicked back hair. He was VERY knowledgeable, nice, and helpful. I saw there were some bad reviews of this place so me and my wife went to check it out. We were surprised but not surprised to see that this place is not bad at all.... its actually pretty awesome! We ended up getting two oscars for my main aquarium, and two angelfish for one of my other aquariums. They were all healthy and are still doing fine today. I'm not sure why people are so brutal with their reviews, take it from me, at least come check the place out before you take someone's advice online.

In all of Eugene and Aaron with the The Nautilus has the the best selection around. I highly recommend his store over pet-co or pet smart. If you want really simple fish that are sick or dead go to pet-co. You looking to get into fish? Do you already have fish? Go see Aaron in Springfield over any other fish store around. He’s got the most amount of quality cichlids, starter/feeder fish, cleaner fish, high quality featured fish, bettas, shrimp for eco tanks, and a selection for starting your salt water tanks.

Let me start by saying that I don't normally write reviews, barely for items and never for stores. That is, until I read these others. This place is absolutely great! Where people come from saying otherwise is beyond me. It is a small business owned and run by one man mostly, so it's your general "ma and pa" type of setting. If you walk in and compare the place to Walmart, yeah, you will be disappointed. Who goes in a fish store and complains about the lighting? The tanks have always been well lit in my experience, isn't that what matters? Also, the display tank is amazing. I have shopped around for fish and equipment both and always end up coming back. He has a great and ever-changing supply of fish, and can order anything. I have bought fish elsewhere, but in my opinion, no one else in town compares. I am a weekly customer, and have also asked a ton of questions along the way. I am still more than satisfied and would recommend anyone to stop in if you ever have the need. The guy knows his stuff and has always been helpful, even if he steers me away from a sale which says a lot in my opinion.

My first impression of the establishment from the outside was that it looked like at one time this was a cool spot. However, upon entering this establishment I was left was utter disappointment. The front entrance was not at all welcoming and looked cluttered and not at all clean. The carpet on the front entrance was torn and looked like it has never been replaced.Venturing further inside was met with more disappointment as it was incredibly dark inside, the concrete floor was broken and was scattered everywhere making for an unsafe environment for my 4 year old to walk in.The tanks looked bare and dirty, the shelves look as though they've never been cleaned and the place had a certain smell that can only be described as rotting fish. The gentleman was not wearing a mask mid pandemic and got way to close during our visit. When we attempted to talk to him, he answered a phone call during the conversation and was very rude.I do not recommend this establishment in any form as it's an unsafe and an dirty establishment that is in no way kid friendly, and the staff are rude.

Yes, it is dark and a bit dreary and yes the aquariums could be cleaner. BUT, the fish I purchased are healthy and very active. The tall slender gentleman that helped me was quite pleasant and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back when it's time to get more fish.

We have been looking for a good place to find fish for our tanks for a while, there is no store near us. A friend suggested we come here to The Nautilus because they had a good experience years ago. Well that must have been many years ago because things have changed! Poor selection unless you really want tetras, half the tanks are drained and inoperable, and many of the tanks and fish have serious health issues. One tank of clown plecos was 100% dead this afternoon, the corpses look over a week old! And the dude at the front desk just stares at his phone, when he needs to be out inspecting and tending to his stock!! I drove about 200 miles to see this place, all I remember was detritus and dead fish.I can not spend money here knowing the fish aren't top priority!A once great business in dire trouble.

Great assortment of fish, salt and fresh water. Dark building yes bad customer service absolutely not. The first and last face I seen while shopping was smiling. I ended up buying 5 fish all of which are very healthy. The only reason for a ranking of 4 out of 5 was the parking. Lots of activity in and around this shop

Great customer service, the owner is knowledgeable, and the plant selection is nice. Whenever I get fish or plants I go here, I've never had a problem. This place is far better than some of the places I've gone to in my many years in the fish hobby.

I went with my mom and first reaction was the smell but we didn’t worry too much about it. Then was the fish tanks, they are not in any clean condition but the fish look healthy and new which was very confusing to me. As we continued walking around the owner followed us closely and at one point my mom turned around to see him take a fish out of a tank and throw it into a trash can... my heart sank when she told me. I did try to make small talk but we didn’t feel too welcomed by the owner. What I found concerning was that the owner was well aware that his tanks were in bad condition. Lastly I bought some Saltwater (Mexican snails) which were aggressively pulled off the walls of the tank and plopped into a bag. On the positive note, the fish are gorgeous and reasonably priced.

The store owner is a really nice guy and full of great information. The prices are great too. It’s my go to place for aquarium supplies. He’ll also order stuff you want is he doesn’t stock it.

I think Nautilus Tropical Fish is the best fish store in the Eugene-Springfield area. I have been keeping fish for over ten years and have seven tanks. Aaron the owner of Nautilus is very knowledgeable and obviously a fish lover. I have seen Aaron give his clients excellent service in choosing the right fish for their tank and helping when there is a problem in the tank. We don't want bright lights where the fish tanks are, we want our eyes to focus on the fish. Sure the place might not be the most stylish, but what do you want, top quality fish and advice from a fish expert or nice decorations and a minimum wage employee? If you are into fish, do your self a favor and check our Aaron's shop.

The place is really really dirty and dimly lit, and only one employee. The tanks are not very clean and there are large fish in small tanks, so small the fish couldnt turn around. The pleco I got here was covered in ick and unfortunately i was unable to save it and it died a week later. The goldfish have finrot, and I was told they were healthy. Shop here with caution and use a quarantine tank because many fish here are sick.

Definitely never going back here. The place is disgusting, unorganized. The guy doesn't help you hardly at all and isn't knowledgeable of his store, he's been fired from other fish stores in town and was completely rude when I called about one of my fish dying because the other fish he sold me killed it.

I’ve bought several healthy fish here. Inside looks a little drab but the quality of he fish and goods are excellent! The owner is usually there with ample knowledge about aquariums. Reasonable pricing.

I really appreciate this local store with a very knowledgeable, friendly owner who clearly has a passion for fish and aquaria in general. I recommend supporting this local business over a chain store any day. He carries a much greater variety of fish which changes every time I come in, some beautiful display tanks, and you'll receive better quality service, products and advice here.

Bad lighting. The place look really dark and dreary. Fish tanks were filthy and many dead fish. The place smelled of mold and had filthy shoes at the front of the store. I thought about calling the guy and telling him my complaints so he could clean up the place. I believe that's the only way they're going to stay in business.
