This used to be my go-to pet store for dog food. The employees used to be friendly, informative and helpful. It’s pricey, but the customer service used to be outstanding, so there was value. That is no longer the case. The staff doesn’t greet customers coming into the store anymore and ignore them when they’re shopping. I was completely ignored while walking up and down the aisles looking for a specific brand of dog food. Not one employee offered to help. There was one other customer in the store and all five employees were standing at the registers talking to one another and ignoring the sales floor. I want to do my part to keep local, small businesses in my area, but I can’t see paying more for being ignored and unappreciated as a customer and paying more for the “privilege.” I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

Super friendly and willing to carry a six foot tall cat tree to my car for me, and play reverse jenga to get it in there. Clean, fresh-smelling store. Always happy when I come in, and even showed genuine concern and gave words of wisdom when I mentioned one of my darling kitties passed away.

I am writing a review about this because it is not the first time it has happened in this store. On the plus side, the store is clean, and well-stocked with quality food and pet supplies. Most of the time when I go in, I have a great experience. On the downside... some of the staff. I have a rescue dog that has required a great deal of work to socialize and train. Sometimes when I go into this store, the staff is so focused on pushing their agenda that they do not listen to me, as the handler, as to what is correct for interacting with my dog in training. It happened again, today. I don't know why my dog was more anxious than she has been in months. It was unexpected. After we entered the store, she was whining and barking. Not her norm, at all. By the time I got to the back corner of the store, she was panting. So, I decided to grab what I absolutely needed and leave asap. When I walked back to grab the other thing I needed, she became even more agitated and was lip licking and yawning. Then we add the clerk. She walked right up to my dog with all this going on. I told her she was making the situation worse, and she informed me that she needed to go that way. Well, it's not like the aisles in this store are very long. I don't think she would die if she went back and walked down the next one to get back to the check stand. But she pushed through, definitely adding to my dog's agitation. Then she came back and asked if my dog could have a treat. In the meantime, I had asked my dog to sit and stay and was attempting to get her to relax. The woman comes barreling back with salmon jerky. I asked her to please not come towards the dog. So, she sticks her hand out with the jerky, my dog breaks, she gives it to her and starts telling her what a good girl she is. Who knows how many training sessions it will take to fix that? When I reacted, she said, "Well I asked if I could give her a treat!" No, you didn't. You asked if she could have one. Big difference. There is a process that I have worked on with my trainer to get my dog to be able to wait politely and take things gently from people. Ignoring my requests as the dog owner is rude. Thinking you know more than the person who works with the dog every day and has put in the time is arrogant. Rewarding her for breaking a stay is totally disrespectful and just makes training harder. While I prefer to support local business, I will not be returning. This is not the first time this has happened to me in this store. It will, however, be the last. I have never had this happen at other pet stores.

It's a catch 22 because they carry difficult to find products, but something's lacking.First, I went to purchase a vet recommended cat food, it's expensive. They carried singles, packs of 12qty and packs of 24qty.Any experienced consumer can tell you that the more you buy of something the better price you'll get....Their 24qty pack is more expensive than purchasing two 12qty packs. I read EVERYTHING on both packs because I thought I had to be missing something, but no.Second, I'm waiting at checkout, there's 2 cashiers working. I notice that they both asked their customers, unprompted, for their phone numbers. I can only conclude that the store has a reward program...right?It's my turn, the cashier gives me my total...Confused I asked "does your store have a rewards program?" She looks back equally confused and says ".....no"Now we're staring at each other for what seemed like much longer than it probably was. I start to doubt what I had heard, or maybe both cashiers had simultaneously hit on their customers.Either that or this cashier is lying about the reward program. Either conclusion is insane. I paid and left, pointless, on many levels.

I purchase 99.9% of our pet supplies at South Salem Pet Supply. They have what our pets need and the staff is exceptional. The vibe in the store is great. I enjoy seeing customers bringing their dogs in with them. After all they are the real customers! 😉

Best place to go for all your dog and cat needs. The staff is well knowledgeable in everything the store sells. Have a question? Just ask!Thinking about trying a new food?Ask! Sometimes they have samples to try your pet with prior to purchasing a big bag.All my grown children and myself will only shop here

We found some neglected and abandoned new born kitties, but I'm ignorant in the ways of the cat, one of the nice young ladies working there helped me get the things we needed to get them cleaned up and fed, and gave advice on how to find a foster home for those little guys. They are safe healthy and have a home, thanks to her customer service.

Heading out of town on a work trip, needed to grab some supplies fast for my cat. Walked up to the door at 6 PM, Kyler was just locking the door. I asked if I could grab a few things real quick, he welcomed me in and did not make me feel bad at all for getting there so last minute. I’ve been there, not fun when a customer keeps you a little bit late, so it really is appreciated when people go out of their way to show kindness. Kyler even helped me grab all the supplies I needed, answered my questions, and help carry my things.*** to the owners of South Salem pet supply, give Kyler a raise!!!!!

The first time I came into this store I didn't have the greatest experience, this was my second time in the store today and we went there initially for a chew toy for my dog,we were greeted right when we walked in and got help very from a nice gentleman and gave us great recommendations he was very helpful! Also we were helped by a also very kind women and also gave us recommendations on what cat food to get because our cat has allergies. This store is fantastic every associate was very knowledgeable and gave extraordinary customer service, even at the check out continued to receive great service she was very friendly and even explained the deals they had going, all together great experience!

They helped me fit my dog's new harness, the staff are great! The prices are good and you can get bulk pricing as well for certain items. Definitely recommend this to the larger chain pet supply stores! Take your pet in with you! Thank you!

I was hesitant to come to this store because I thought the prices would be higher since it's not a big chain like Pet-Co or Pet Smart but they were actually cheaper for some things. I also have never talked to such knowledgeable staff. If you go and want to get the low down on the best cat food products then I would recommend talking to David because he took the time to not only explain to me why certain ingredients were important in my cats diets but also how the companies came to be and how they produce their foods. I would suggest that this is the place to shop if you want the good stuff for your animal loves.

Went in for a doggy backpack to carry my dog around while hiking, grabbed a size small thinking it would fit and before I bought it the gentleman there asked if I wanted to try it on before buying it, good thing he did because I needed a size medium! I have been going to the south salem location for the past year and a half due to the excellent customer service Alyssa has provided me and my mom on our pets. Alyssa has been very informative and very knowledgeable on which foods and basically anything we have needed for our pets. I am very thankful she has provided the needed knowledge for our dogs and cats. Yesterday when me and my gf went in for food for our cats Alyssa as tremendous as she is. Already had the treats we wanted prepped for us. She is a huge asset to the company. Pet supply overall is the best choice for pets due to the understanding of your needs and local.

They were very helpful choosing the best products for pets needs and not necessarily the most expensive ones. Also Jeremiah was very nice and helpful with a return. Friendly and helpful staff. Will return again and again for knowledgeable help.They also adopt out cats from Salem Friends of Felines (that we enjoy donating our household and clothing items to their thirft store and main adioption center).As l no longer go to my old vet, l asked for any good ones they'd heard of and they gave me a couple of award winning and top reviewed ones! I have had nothing but EXCELLENT customer service here! They know what I typically come in for, and they ALWAYS check stock in the back if it's not on the shelf. I must say, Kyler makes my experience there absolutely phenomenal every single time! He is extremely personable, ALWAYS happy, and a wealth of information. I enjoy seeing everyone when I go, but I make sure I go on days Kylers working so I can see his smiling face!Keep up your excellent customer service you guys. I have two wiener dogs. One of them just passed which left the other one completely lost, heartbroken, and with severe anxiety. I went into pet supply with my dog to find something to make her feel better. The employees were BEYOND helpful and extremely sweet. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. They were so supportive and really made a difference in this rough time.

I appreciate this store so much ! I had picked up some kibble for my pups & the flavor didn’t sit well with my dogs stomach & pet supply had no problem returning the kibble and replacing it with a familiar flavor. Thank you Pet Supply !

Their hours are a bit strange but that's the only reason they're not 5 stars. They have a huge selection of pet food, toys, etc. They also have lower prices on a lot of things compared to chain stores like PetSmart.

Not really a "pet supply" store. Strictly for cats and dogs. They have a wide range of foods and treats and toys though for them. They are very expensive compared to any other pet store, although they do have an option on many foods to get the 12th bag of food or 10th bag for free. You can also bring food back and get a different kind if your cat or dog dont like the food or if it isnt a good fit for them. They have cats and kittens for adoption sometimes but they always look like they have kitty colds and look and feel dirty
