I just came here for the first time to get rats (I have 23 rats at home and have gone to many pet stores in Oregon that sell feeder or pet rats) I’m happy to say this place was really nice! They had a lot of variety with the rats. The employee was super helpful and friendly, and even mentioned her first rat when I chose a siamese baby :) The store was clean and I felt welcome. I will definitely return whenever I feel like expanding my never ending rat colony. Oh and also, GREAT prices. Lowest prices for feeders I’ve seen lately in Oregon/Washington. (some of my rats at home included in the second photo)

The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. This is only place I can find live rats for my picky ball python. They care about all their animals and treat them all well. The feeder rats I have bought from here are always healthy and well cared for.

I have bought all 3 of my reptiles from tropical hut since I was 18 years old. I am now 24 And all 3 of my reptiles are thriving. I was so scared of reptiles and that was the reason why I decided to buy them to conquer my fear. The 1st reptile I ever bought was a leopard gecko that I named Cleopatra because she Has Golden skin with lavender spots. I bought a crested gecko when he was on sale and I named him Vulcan because he looked like he was on fire. And I recently bought a Corn snake named Helios who is growing Amazingly and feeding every single week since I have bought him. This pet shop knows how to breed The reptiles and I'm sure They know what they're doing when it comes to their other animals that they specialize in as well. I will always go to this pet shop to get a new animal because I know I will begin a quality animal that is healthy and I will get all of the information I will possibly need to make sure I take care of the animal and give it the best life if possibly can. Every time I enter this store, I leave with a smile. The staff here are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about a wide variety of pets. Fallon (sorry if I spelled that wrong) has been very helpful and has eased tons of stress for me with being a new snake owner (and she's got a great smile 😉)!Terri (sorry if spelled wrong) the Owner, has been very patient and helpful and always has a smile for you. Today, even though she's not paid too, she went out of her way to help me and resolved a big concern I had with one of my snakes. I could not be more grateful for her help!Anything you need for your reptiles, amphibians, aquatic, and other pets, stop at Tropical Hut in Portland. You'll be happy you did!

Highly recommend for anyone that has questions about reptiles or amphibians. They were not pushy sales people and love their animals and are very knowledgeable. Just what you need when your family is investigating a non standard pet!Details: My son wanted a salamander for Xmas. I knew nothing and after 20 minutes of an internet search all I knew was that it was a possible beginner pet but not what they needed in any real detail. I needed a real person who knew what I didn’t know I needed to know.The lady there (sadly I can’t remember her name) was fabulous. She helped with all my questions. What do they eat, what habitats do they need, what can I get here vs out in the woods by my house, how long will they live , how often do things need to be cleaned etc. and that there are no breeders near us. They were even able to tell me where my son could catch one and even which one was NOT safe to keep!I was able to get all of the basic set up from the shop for a reasonable price. I highly recommend this shop.

The Owners Wife Super Informative and talked me into buying my first Bearded Dragon. I'm super excited for this adventure. They have huge selection of Reptiles,Snakes,Frogs,Fish everything pretty much Rn he's in a nice 20Gallon set up but upgraded next month

The worst customer service I have ever received. I had Previously purchased a gold fish here for my son and wanted to get his fish a friend. And the sales person basically refused to sell us the fish. And insinuated that they are stinky and “ dirty” and grow to be 8 inches. As if we wouldn’t get a tank to accommodate said fish. Our other one is still well and alive lol. I love supporting local but passive aggressiveness is not it for me. Do better

Customer service was okay, snakes were kept in cramped compartments. The snake I had bought there was much too small for her age, a corn snake that was claimed 10 months old but only 17 inches long. I don't know if this does anything besides slow growth as the snake is in good condition other than that. I had no problem feeding within 2 days of buying her. The other reptiles didn't seem cramped. Also noticed that the mice were just kept in tanks without hides or anything to run in.

Rosie was so wonderful and patient. She is a wealth of knowledge. She should get a raise just for putting up with me and my never ending questions. We got our first bearded dragon, named Donuts. We love her!

I have not been back here for a few years but it is still the same. All the employees are great and knowledgeable. I purchased by first Kenyan Sand Boa just yesterday here and the owner was very helpful.

I got a beautiful ball python here, as well as some supplies. they've got a good selection of supplies, and have some amazing morphs available. it has been about 8 months since I brought him home and he's doing great! I'm glad that they have healthy snakes who make great pets. first photo is the day I brought him home, the second and third are more recent. he has grown so much!

I've been going there for a minute and always had to rely on my own knowledge; staff don't know what they're talking about. Well I consequently decided to buy a third rat here and the manager woman decided to lie right through her teeth and say she knows how to sex rats. I needed a male. She gave me a female saying it was a male. I know this is a feeder rat supply so maybe they don't know much but I thank the pathetic excuse of an employee for lying right to my face. They got good supply just trust the employees are not trained to adequately give proper answers, let alone truthful ones. Don't listen to em do your research online and then go to pets on Broadway or A to Z Pets.

Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful staff- ask them for animal care advice when needed!! I thought my new betta from TH was dying… I called them about a refund (which was a sad reality to face); they advised me on antifungal medication to try first before declaring him a goner. (They were out of stock, but could tell me what I needed to get). Qwerty went from lying on his side to surfacing again. Hopefully he’ll pull through! And I’ve been very happy with my many other fish & aquatic inverts from here. Thank you all!!

Since this is the only option for me to feed my snakes, i unfortunately have to go to this place. Its smelly and cluttered. Live feeder Rats are extremely expensive! Any feeder for that matter. The staff is consistently unwelcoming and rude when asked simple questions and there is always someone new/different there that seems to wonder around/hide in the back room. I could deal with all of these things, until this last time. Every time I've gotten a feeder rat they are extremely aggressive to the snakes to the point the snakes are terrified of them and wont eat them. What ever they are doing to their rats or where ever they are sourced from is obviously causing the rats to be extremely aggressive. People have rats as pets and they attack and bite us just trying to get them out of their box and into the cages. I bought feeder rats today and my snake refused to feed and cowered from the rat, shaking. This is unacceptable. Ive never had an issue with rats from any other place. Ive recently moved from Utah and bought from many reptile stores there, never had any issues with rats that was this extreme to the point they terrified my snakes. Do better please.

Went in once before, had exceptional service, talked to a gal who gave me great pointers and seemed to have the snakes interest at heart. Reptiles all look healthy and well taken care of. My second trip, not as great. The woman we spoke with seemed to only view the snakes as decor, and recommended against buying a larger enclosure as they "are happy in the small containers we have them in now"

Staff seemed annoyed when you ask them a question. Some are condescending and avoid interacting. Biggest concern, snakes in tiny clear cages with no hiding spot or belly warmth. This is ANIMAL CRUELTY!!I feel unseasy here. Do better!

This place is pretty cool. Has a large selection of pets. Most of which are reptiles and fish. They are one of few places that sell tortoises which is cool, if you are looking for one of those. I was approached shortly after walking into the shop and the lady answered any questions I had. Will come again if looking for a reptile.

so on september 1st, 2021, i had gotten a tree frog for my birthday. i named him pinto. he was my baby, i was determined he was going to keep me alive, and i loved him more than life itself. a week later, after absolutely falling in love with this baby animal, he died because we bought him sick. he died because the care they have there is awful. seeing my baby’s dead body after swearing that this frog was going to keep me from killing myself.
