This place really took a nose dive when it comes to customer service. I’ve never experienced anything like it before, it almost seems as if the employees are doing it on purpose? Not getting paid enough? Is this a way to get corporate’s attention? What is going on? I just moved downtown 4 months ago and it wasn’t like this even then. It’s unfortunate because I live 1 block away and it was so convenient. Nothing is being done. All I’ll get is a useless automated response under this review. Ridiculous.

If I could leave no stars I would. One of the worst Safeways in the country. This location has some of the rudest managers/ employees that seem to have no customer service experience. I never review but today was the exception. The customer service desk is constantly closed even though there are plenty of managers” standing around usually talking or on their phones. Many of the employees act as if you’re bothering them when you just want to ask a simple question. This location is dirty and doesn’t fit with the rest of the neighborhood. Safeway can do much better.

Pharmacy is terribly incompetent and rude. It takes half an hour or more to get through the line, if you’re lucky, and then when you get there there’s a chance they’ve lost your prescription or don’t have it filled yet, even though they got the prescription yesterday. On top of that, their customer service is non existent, I basically just got told to pound sand even though I just needed a bottle of six pills of extremely common medication. They have it, they could put the medicine I need in a bottle in about 30 seconds, but instead I’ve been told to F off. Thank you so much Safeway, truly pioneers when it comes to customer service and quality of work being done

Need to change your closing time online to 1150 if you are going to start having security turn people away at 1150. I needed one thing that would take me 5 minutes to grab and check out. Closing times are for a reason. Honestly other than that it’s the worst grocery experience portland can offer. Crazy over priced and always smells gnarly, like every isle is a new smell of something spilled weeks ago. Shelves and fridges are usually dirty and stuff gets sold expired constantly. Also it sucks to have to set food on the self checkout scales cause they are always dirty too. Been going here more often than I want for longer than I would like and it’s always always like this. Employee turnover seems extremely fast too. there are probably good reasons for that.

Henry Taylor is an awesome employee. Very friendly and genuinely cared I had questions about the kiosk. He was very helpful. Thank you. The world needs more people like this man ❤️

Being a regular customer for seven years, I was shocked when I was leaving. The self checkout attendant told me to go back and get my basket! I told him that since I was doing his job he could retrieve it. There no cashier stations open and its obvious they're saving bucks on payroll. Getting really tired of doing self checkout .Do they lower their prices? Of course not! Also, its not my problem they have shoplifters. I never go to that fenced in checkout with all the personal items. I don't have time to bother with that nonsense!

This Safeway store is located in the heart of the Pearl District, just opposite a streetcar stop. It is a well-stocked store, very lively. The staff are pleasant and friendly

Safeway has just about everything you'd need in the way of groceries. I recommend you download the app and take advantage of the coupons/discounts, however. The price point is a bit higher than average, but not significantly so.

I love this location for the convenience and really nice design on the outside. But more importantly, I found so many new snacks here that I couldn’t find at other branches. Great snacks!

One of the most ghetto, P.O.S. stores around.Horrible customer service, always out of stuff, no one seems to care about customers at all.And they know that there aren't many other options in the area so they just hire garbage people and have garbage procedures.

I didn't know what to expect at a Portland Safeway. I certainly did not expect the best Safeway I have ever been to. Everything was clean and organized. The prices are excellent. I don't understand all of the shower and home goods being in a separate section, but I'm new to Portland, so it probably makes sense to locals. I love this place. 10/10, this place is great.

The staff are always wonderful. They have a little trouble keeping stocked on goods, though.... And the store was recently redesigned by someone who clearly wasn't sober at the time. What was an average shopping has become frustrating now that there's a small maze in the middle of the store and products are placed in unusual groupings.

This is a good store although some customers like to play games with other customers in the store to get attention & safe way management let's it go on. I've done nothing to no one @ that location yet other customers come in follow me around the store trying to make me mad by getting in my way for no reason @ all. Just remember every action made by every day people gets a reaction.

Literally worst pharmacy in Portland, find another. If you don’t believe me, try calling and getting your scripts filled. Or simply getting them to pick up the phone. Either way, they are either severely understaffed or it’s ran by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing.

It’s interesting that this store worries more about theft than the fact that they are breaking Oregon law and committing multiple health code violations by allowing everyone in with their dogs. Not to mention, if anyone were to be bitten by a dog, the store would be sued for negligence and face penalties from the state far exceeding any theft amount they could ever incur in a year. Priorities seem a bit backward. I love dogs and all but it’s serious a bit much. The store just gives off extremely uncomfortable vibes

To the management. Have you ever heard of the Americans with disabilities act? Both customer restrooms closed and out of order? We cannot access the employee's restrooms in an emergency. Absolutely ridiculous. Then sent across the street to a coffee shop to use their restrooms. When a disabled customer comes in spending their money and was rudely told to go across the street you can't use my restrooms. I'll go to Fred Meyers.

Stopped by for a quick purchase at 11:43PM tonight. Was met by security & an employee both holding the automatic door closed from the inside & refusing to let anyone inside.

Ample parking. Clean elevator to get down to the store. Security on point. Aisles clean. Shout out to the African American guy in the seafood section. His customer service was a 5star. He explained everything and made sure it was packed perfect for travel. Not many cashiers up front, however in the alcohol section they are there. Self check out is preferred unless you need something from that area with the alcohol. Definitely would shop here again.

I enjoy coming to this particular Safeway despite the homeless around. Their shelves are full, fish looks fresh, security walking the floor. Clean floors and aisles. Many times I have shopped this store and on this particular day (9-17-23 around 1pm) the cashier at the alcohol register needs better training on customer service. After my transaction I was never asked if I wanted a bag, so I asked "How much for the bag?" Her response was "food stamps you get them for free". I felt insulted. This cashier had no sense to look at the last transaction and see how I pay. She fixed it later and said the bags were 10cents. No apology. They just have terrible staff on the weekend.

I have gone to this Safeway for years so I think I know what to expect. They keep changing the self check out and bagging situation and apparently now you have to read minds. They put the checkers in the middle part they said to avoid theft. I went in the middle part and went to check out the the checker person is just sitting on their phone. I come over and said something about saving my wine bottles for last cause my id is at the bottom of the cart. I brought my own cart. The person suggests to got to self checkout cause that might be easier for me and I wouldn't have to take everything out. I'm like I have to take everything out anyways. They offer again cause it might be easier for me. I'm like no its not easier for me. So person starts scanning but never offers me bags or to bag anything. Thats wasn't a big deal but kind of rude treatment to a paying customer. I called customer service to complain and the person or supervisor comes up with all these excuses and suggestions like its my job to read minds. The supervisor says that person might have been on break or because they have a disability and all these excuses. I'm like I have disabilities too! I said I don't get treated like this at Trader Joes and the supervisor says maybe I should just shop at TJ's. Then the supervisor suggests I should have gone to the person across from them. How would I know that? The supervisor says there might have been a line. There was no line. I ask the supervisors name and they hung up on me. Like wth, don't have people at the register if they just wanna sit on their phone, its not my job to guess. Also, its not my responsibility to do all your employees work. I just paid $140 for overpriced groceries and I don't appreciate the rudeness when I've shopped there for many years. Maybe you should open back up the front registers if you are no longer worried about people stealing. Its not my job to guess how you manage your store!

the pharmacy took 10 minutes to get extra back from their break after the time they said they'd be back . The people getting their flu shot had no idea where to go. The person behind me had to use the restroom very badly so I made an effort to be quick and the person helping me was incredibly slow with everything. I tried to ask where a few things were but there was only person out in store to help. Took me 30 minutes longer than it should have.

This Safeway had a different vibe from other Safeways I've been to around the area, probably because of its location in the middle of Pearl District. Its layout was very city-friendly and they were well-stocked. It is easy to go in, get what you need, and get out. All my partner and I needed was some ibuprofen to get through a pounding headache while downtown, and we were able to find it and pay within a couple of minutes. Employees were friendly and efficient. There are homeless people outside, but they do have security and the houseless individuals there tend not to really talk to you from my experience.

Pretty expensive being downtown. I do go here out of convenience since I pass by often. Wouldn't go here for a large shopping list. Staff is pretty rude. Can save a decent amount of money using the app. Can WinCo please open up a store near union Station. You'd make a killing.

This place is okay, but the crazy customers cause unending chaos that runs employees ragged. I live nearby and am usually in there twice a day.Daily I see- security running after shoplifters, or people in the aisles stashing merch in the variety of stolen luggage, baby carriages, and push carts.- terrible-smelling people blocking the entrances with their dripping bags of cans to trade in for $0.10 each- beggars- the “regulars” are harmless but other threaten violence with a string of profanities when you turn down their request for change or ignore themA dude got his brains blown out a few weeks ago in the produce section. He was holding a naked woman hostage with a large knife. She ran into the store to escape and he followed. See empty berry aisle picture!I’ve seen someone pissing in the aisleI’ve seen people master-bating more than onceI’ve been followed to my building more than once (both times near their closing time)I’ve see random vandalism “just cause”This doesn’t happen in Texas. Where are the police?

Last time I did grocery pick-up, you forgot to check my order out of the system and I had to call the store for an update. This time - the girl you have working has no business working this position. She isn’t physically capable. She came out huffing and puffing and then yelled pick-up order for Mandii? My trunk was open and I was in the spot I marked during check in so it was a little odd. My husband asked how her day was and she didn’t answer. Then she yells to me from the back of the car if she can remove the net because the groceries don’t fit - it was a small load and my trunk was empty, so confused I got out of my car and went to the rear and the trunk was half empty and I said I’ll do it and put the water case in the car. I order grocery pick up because I have back issues. Even with my back issues I was still able to life the case of water she could not lift and it’s her job. I do pick up so I only have to lift it out of my car. You need people physically capable of doing this job and she was breathing and panting like she was dying. Maybe she would be better off as a cashier. Then again, she wasn’t really friendly so maybe not.

PRICE GOUGING!! PRICE GOUGING!!Don't shop here if you don't have to. The store jacks up prices when they see someone is buying a product. Safeway was recently sued for price gouging on the east coast, and it appears like they're doing it here too!I've been buying shredded chicken for a couple weeks because it was $7.99/pound. For comparison, the boneless honey bbq chicken was $8.99/pound. Today, they have raised the price to $10.99/pound!!It's insane. I don't want to shop here after seeing them do this with other items I've bought in the past. Every time I start shopping for something they raise the price by 40%!!I'd also like to point out how terrible the space is, and how bad the staff are.The staff are extremely hostile, and will abuse customers. I've seen them physically assaulting people, and I've seen them saying discriminatory statements. They behave like they have no critical thinking skills whatsoever, on top of their proclivity for based behavior.

This would be a miserable place completely if not for a few extraordinary employees. Bottle machines NEVER work. Customer service calling for help has routinely been more than a hour wait (unacceptable and I have left with unresolved problems). Just terrible.
