My husband and I hiked in for an early one year of marriage celebration mid august. The communication once booked was great. anticipating our needs, helpful and guided us in making sure we were prepared. The staff treated us with respect and we’re so kind. It was quickly an environment of old, cozy friends were everyone wanted to get to know your name and who you are but give you the space and respect independent behaviors. We have never been so relaxed! The food was a culinary experience! We loved Tevan’s dishes as they rotated between a few chefs during our three days. The ingredients were fresh and local and well put together. There were no heat lamps, so once plated you may have gotten a dish that was chilly or cool but in general, the flow was nice. Things were prompt but nothing was rushed. We stayed in a walled tent and that bed was the most comfortable thing! We slept well and the bath house was impeccably clean. It was shocking how once using the amenities, you forgot you were deep in the woods. We will be coming back. It was a 10/10 experience.

A magical adventure retreat. It was so nice to go offline. I hiked for four days and got to fish in the river. Everyone got to do exactly what they wanted. There is a map on All Trails to Horse Ranch Trail. I would suggest not bringing too much stuff as you will need to carry it uphill back. I didn't really need to bring any snacks as you will want to eat there every meal if possible. We went in Early October and with rain, the trails can get quite muddy so bring trekking poles.

I'd like to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for the Minam River Lodge resort. I was genuinely impressed by the overall ambiance, stunning location, the exceptional staff, and the top-notch service provided. It was an experience that left a lasting impact.During our stay in the Huckleberry cabin, we were surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and mesmerizing views. Every detail inside the cabin was thoughtfully designed, from the earthy scent of the toiletries to the neatly folded cotton robes. The presence of a wood stove and a shower cascading from the ceiling added to the charm. The choice of linen bedsheets added to the comfort and elegance of our stay. The lodge itself exuded warmth and hospitality, with coffee and handpicked tea available at any time, making it feel like a home away from home. The culinary expertise of the chefs was truly outstanding, offering a diverse and exotic food menu that included delightful flavors such as lamb, duck, and black cod. The wine selection and desserts were equally heavenly. One of the highlights of our stay was the opportunity to enjoy a hot sauna followed by a refreshing dip in the cold river—an experience that left us in awe. Additionally, the hot tub in the midst of the wilderness was an unforgettable experience. I even had the pleasure of tending to fires for the sauna, hot tub, and our cabin, which added to the rustic charm of our stay. However, what made this experience truly unique was the intentional disconnection from our phones due to the absence of cellular service. It provided a much-needed digital detox, allowing me to indulge in reading books in a tranquil hammock or participating in yoga classes in the barn. The only sounds were the gentle whispers of the wind, the buzzing of bees, the melodies of birds, and the occasional chirping of grasshoppers and dragonflies—creating a serene and immersive natural environment.I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team at Minam River Lodge, including Margaret, Lola, Mike, Claire, Nadia, Sarah, Matthew, Kyle, Michaela, Ezra, and "Sunshine” and everyone else I forgot to mention. Their collective efforts made our stay truly unforgettable and left us with cherished memories.

An amazing time as only a host of hospitality veterans can serve up! This scenic part of the country is spectacular and enhanced by the sweat of an enjoyable hike into this gorgeous valley. We were greeted for the overview with our choice of beverages and you can tell that every aspect of our experience over the coming days has been thought through. The food was excellent and the comraderie of the guests was on full display during our stay whether people flew-in or hiked, everyone has made an unusual effort to be here. Our dogs were welcomed, the wood burning stoves dried our wet clothes and the lack of cell or internet service forces guests to relax. Our tour of the property was accentuated by the sauna, a river dip, wood-fired hot tub and an afternoon of drinks and popcorn at the lodge. Don't pass on a great massage either! This attentive staff is searching for your every want or need, ready to fulfill before you can even ask. Thanks to all for the exceptional service that rejuvenated two tired inkeepers after a very busy season:)Walkability: After the hike in, its so enjoyable to walk around the meadows and property to stretch the legs and enjoy being out in this beautiful place.Food & drinks: The dinners are an experience and lunch/breakfast were excellent.

Pros: I would give the accommodations a 5/5. We stayed in the Huckleberry cabin and it was very nice and clean. Bed and linens were comfortable and the bathroom was surprisingly luxurious for a rustic cabin. The shower had hot water and a delightful rain showerhead. The staff also gets 5/5, they were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the nearby Minam river; it was pristine and refreshing on a hot day. The coffee in the morning was very good and plentiful.Cons: Unfortunately the food was a little disappointing, especially for the high price. Our main courses were served cold both evenings, first cold steak and polenta and then cold mashed potatoes the next evening. The flavors were good, but the cold textures were unpleasant. They should definitely invest in a heat lamp to keep the food warm while they finish all the plating. I do appreciate their use of fresh and healthy ingredients. While not the fault of the lodge, the mosquitoes were annoying. Even after applying bug spray you can't spend time outdoors in the evening without being swarmed. We tried to go for a walk one evening and it was awful. They also managed to get inside our cabin on the first night and buzz around our heads all night. More screens on the windows would have been welcome on those hot nights! It was a shame it was too hot to walk during the day but too buggy to walk at night.Overall, I'd give Minam a 4.5/5. It was an interesting and mostly positive experience, but we wouldn't go back. For the price, there are better locations and better food.

It’s hard to describe such a magical place. From the hike, horse ride, or flight in you will stand in awe of the scenery. Then you will be greeted by the kindest staff.Your room will be filled with every creature comfort one would need. Finally, you eat meals that are generally out of this world and make you feel like nothing could ever be better.Minam is my family’s favorite place in the world. We’ve been all over and stayed at 5-star everything. Minam tops them all! My daughter cries every year when it’s time to leave. You must make this trip! You won’t regret it.Rooms: Clean and well furnished! Epic warm shower and great water pressure.Food & drinks: It doesn’t get any better!!! Creative, delicious, fresh, local, stunning presentation.I’ve been ALL over 5 ⭐️, food carts, and Michelin. Minam won’t disappoint.Email all allergy concerns and they’ll take great care of you!

I am overdue in writing a review for our stay at Minam River Lodge last summer. We stayed in the Treehouse cabin and brought our dog along with us. During our stay, we experienced world class hiking, food and drink, and service (the staff is simply fantastic). It was a dream trip and I'd highly recommend the place for any outdoors-person/ appreciator of the outdoors who also craves great dining experiences and higher-end amenities. Be ready to disconnect while there!

My wife and I just recently visited Minam River Lodge for the first time. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience we had. With regard to COVID-19, the staff did a great job creating an environment that was safe and comfortable. Seating at meals was adequately spaced and, during the entire stay, it never felt crowded. The dining is incredible! Sean, Suzanne and the rest of the crew in the kitchen prepared amazing meals with produce grown in Emily's garden on the property and food that is locally sourced. The entire staff was gracious, warm and welcoming. Anna and Margaret ensure that the Lodge runs smoothly and were incredibly attentive. The cabin in which we stayed was perfect. It was clean and very comfortable. We loved sitting on the deck of the cabin in the morning with our cup of coffee and enjoyed a fire in the small stove at night. I do recommend making the hike to the property....the scenery is gorgeous and they are ready with a cold beer upon your arrival! Again, thank you to the entire staff....we will be back!

Our whole experience was wonderful. The staff showed a level of attention to detail rarely seen, the food was as gorgeous as it was delicious, the setting impeccable. For us, the hike in and out made the experience even more enjoyable. We stayed in a wall tent and thought that it perfectly met our needs for quiet, private and yet close enough to not be a burden to walk to the Lodge. By the start of day 2 we were already planning our trip back next year. Thank you so much to the staff - it was a great decision to come and stay with you and we highly recommend your Lodge.

I'm a bit delayed in writing a review, but we visited Minam River Lodge last June on a somewhat spur of the moment trip (we were lucky there was one lodge room available) and it was hands down one of the best 'getaway' trips I have experienced. Aside from the excellent meals and friendly, relaxed staff and atmosphere, one of the most enjoyable aspects of this place is the fact that it allows (or rather requires) total disconnection from life outside the valley. No cell phones, no internet, no TV. Just take in the beautiful surroundings, reconnect with yourself and your partner/family, and form new connections with the other guests. We made great friends here during our short stay and have already planned a return trip. Truly one of my favorite places!

Our family of four (boys ages 21 and 19) backpacked the 10 miles into the Minam River Lodge with two other families. The hike makes you work a little bit, but it's rewarding and well worth the effort. Between the pristine Minam River, the huge meadow and the valley walls on both sides, the setting couldn't be much better. The cabins and the small lodge are beautifully hand crafted and very clean and comfortable - much nicer than anything I could imagine for such a small operation in the middle of nowhere. The friendly staff put together by Barnes and Anna had everything working smoothly (including COVID precautions). The food was outstanding! Kudos to Chef Sean and his team for delivering incredible 4-star meals at a wilderness lodge. We loved the extra touch at dinner of Sean coming out and explaining each course. While the focus is on unplugging and relaxing, there is also plenty to do - fly fishing, floating down the river, relaxing in the handcrafted sauna and hot tub, yoga, hiking, horseshoes and horseback riding. A huge thanks to Barnes and his team for an amazing four days. Whether it's for a family vacation, a couples trip, a family reunion or a company retreat....you won't be disappointed. We can't wait to come back.

I'm incredibly grateful to have had the experience of Minam River Lodge and the remote valley it's nestled into. The staff truly care and offer a wonderful experience. The plane ride into that steep valley was thrilling and amazing, AND if I am able to go again, I would be happy to hike in (as challenging as it could be for many). The place is magical and the amenities high-end with a rustic flair. Loved the food and our cabin and the soft fluffy towels! The care the staff take with every interaction and service is exceptional, but relaxed, personal and fun. I hope we can go back!

We came in with a group of families…with the adults staying in the cabins at the lodge and kids (high school and college) camping down at Red’s. The hike in is a great workout….best to do some moderate training for it unless you are in good shape and used to carrying a pack. Most issues from backpacks seem to stem from improper fitting. REI is a great place to get help fitting your pack. The hike out was more challenging but a rewarding accomplishment. We recovered at The Cove Drive-in….an iconic burger and shake joint that seemed to be favored by many returning hikers. Our cabin at the Minam was immaculate, well-sized and the perfect balance of rustic and luxury. The shower was hot with excellent water pressure, the towels were thick and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the hand-crafted pine soap. The small wood stove was the perfect way to take off the evening chill after a spell on the front porch star gazing. You won’t get views of the Milky Way like this in the city.Food at the Minam was nothing short of amazing. Rib Eye, Salmon, Lamb were the main entrees for the nights we were there. Much of the food is grown on sight in the large garden. The salads were spectacular (eatable flowers!). Gazpacho for lunch had the perfect amount of spice and was ideal for a warm day. Each night the chef came out and described the meal to us. He also went around to the tables to see if we had questions on anything….a very personal touch. There was plenty of variety and portion sizes were excellent. No one went hungry (teenage boys!), even after a full day of hiking, swimming, fishing, etc. The wine selection was broad with lots of great local options. My husband enjoyed the Minam’s take on an old fashion…the Old Minam, made with local spirits. The staff was very friendly and attentive, though not overbearing. Each of them had an interesting background story as to how they found the lodge and their knowledge of the area (hiking trails, wildlife, etc.) was very helpful. The river was a perfect place for a cool dip (followed by a few minutes in the wood-fired sauna). My husband said the fishing was OK (easily wadable in many spots) and chalked his limited catches up to his fly selection and skill rather than any other factor. If you’re looking for a great place to unplug, relax, and enjoy some great farm-to-table meals, this is the place. No cell phone, no internet, no video games, no nightly news. Just perfect.

The stay at this lodge has exceeded my expectations. It was such a great experience to hike in and to receive the warmest welcome upon arrival. We sat down on the deck - overlooking the beautiful valley - and caught our breath whilst drinking a cocktail. Our cabin was amazing. Really convenient and very cozy. We enjoyed all of the food, drinks and snacks. A true one in a lifetime experience. Hope to come back next year!

The Minam River Lodge provided us with the most peaceful retreat we have ever had. If you are someone who is a foodie, enjoys the outdoors, and needs to unplug, this is the place for you!Hiking:We chose to hike in with our 2 dogs. The hike was more difficult than expected due to the terrain and elevation loss/gain. I would recommend hiking poles and don't pack too much stuff. The trail to the lodge is mostly downhill, so it is tough on the joints. On the way back, the trail is mostly uphill, so there is a fair amount of exertion. There are lots of rocks and uneven ground. Most of the hike is shaded, so even though it was in the upper 80's/ low 90's, the temperature was pleasant and it was a pretty hike. There were multiple areas where the dogs could dunk in the river to cool down. If you have dogs, there are also mud pits that they enjoyed lying in and lots of horse manure, so be aware of that. We felt very accomplished after our hike in and out which allowed us to indulge in the delicious food when we arrived!Food:The food was so fantastic. The chefs prepare farm to table cuisine that was high-quality, creative, healthy, and delicious! Each meal is different. Their beverages were fresh and excellent as well. How special to be able to come to this remote place and be served such amazing food. This seems so rare! I have never experienced anything like it. Typically this quality of food is only found in the big cities. The chefs even describe what they are serving and details of how it was prepared to make your mouth water even more.Lodging:We stayed in the Treehouse Cabin. It was very nice, clean, and simple with a bathroom. It was directly next to the lodge, which in some ways was great, but also a little bit noisier when relaxing on the porch. The bedding is the nicest I've experienced in a cabin, however, not as comfy as my bed at home :). The Pendleton styling added an upscale and nice touch, as well as the pine-scented soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. There is no air conditioning, but they provide a fan, so if you open the windows as it cools down in the evening and put on the fan, the temperature was comfortable. There is a wood stove for the cooler times, which we definitely did not need to use during our stay. The front porch was lovely with really comfortable Adirondack chairs.Other:We enjoyed not having cell or internet service while we were there. Yoga with Zella every morning was really wonderful. We plan to do some yoga at home now too. It was helpful to stretch our sore muscles from the hike and it added to the serenity of the trip. The owners and staff members are very friendly and there is a special culture of community there. We were so thankful to be able to bring our dogs. It added to the experience for us. Bring bug spray and wear it. My husband endearingly tokened the phrase "Cookie O'Clock." In the late afternoon, delicious freshly baked cookies were provided and we loved them. We enjoyed a 3 night stay and we felt this was the perfect amount of time to stay. We hope to return in the future!

I simply cannot say enough about the caliber of place the Minam River Lodge is. The booking, flying, hiking, accommodations, and FOOD were beyond our highest expectations. The staff was incredibly attentive and we felt like royalty. Foodie? This is the place for you. The facilities keep you comfortable while you truly unplug from the world you left behind. Stay here and you will not be disappointed!

Spectacular setting inside the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Rustic but very updated accomodations. Outstanding meals supplied by local eastern OR spices for the most part and expertly prepared. You have no choice but to unplug and that itself is great. We went on 3 substantial and 3 minor hikes, which is the main reason we came, and they all were remarkable in their own ways. Hiking in with too much gear and stuff was arduous. Pack light! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. Go for it, you won't regret it.

The area is beautiful. In both my and the writer William Sullivan's opinion, the hike is strenuous, especially with a pack, and not "pleasant" as the manager described. Staff were accommodating and listened to our feedback, but for the grand cabin, there is much work to be done on the area leading up to the cabin to make it worth the cost. The food was acceptable, not excellent. If you're looking for a real feel of the wilderness, you might be disappointed in hearing the charter planes overhead. We will not be making a return trip.

The Minam River adventure begins accessed only by plane or hike. Three of us took off in a small Cessna 250 from Enterprise airport with the Wallowa's best pilot Joe Spence from Spence Air. We took a spectacular flight into the newly renovated Minam River Lodge.Greeted upon arrival the staff graciously transported our bags up the hill while we took a relaxing walk passing by the organic garden, newly rebuilt barn, large horse pasture and up to the handmade cabins along the hillside centered by an absolutely beautiful new main lodge. We were greeted by the friendly staff and checked in with fresh cookies. We ordered a local IPA from Terminal Gravity on tap and started out our relaxing by sitting on one of the many chairs on the lodge deck overlooking the river, grass runway, cabins and snow capped mountain range. Our bags were delivered to our cabin a short distance from the lodge. The hand built cabin has a comfortable queen bed, Adirondack chairs on the covered porch and luxurious rock showers. Cabins are furnished with hand built beds and credenzas completed with small wood burning stoves.Meals are at designated times and served family style in the lodge overlooking the entire property. We enjoyed meals prepared with handmade bread, house smoked meat, garden vegetables, an impressive wine list, local beers on tap and handmade cocktails by request. The lodge staff served us, but also joined us for dinner and added to our experience with their stories and genuine love for the place. We finished off the night with a cocktail in hand, listening to music and watching the million stars outside on the lodge deck. The next morning we enjoyed a great breakfast and a hike to Reds Horse Ranch. The whole experience is truly one of a kind. The lodge has been under construction for the last 6 years and while they still have projects throughout the property they have truly created a rustic, but luxurious place to sit back, unwind and enjoy the view! Till next time Minam Lodge...thank you

My wife and I hiked in for a night to celebrate our anniversary. The lodge was great and in such a nice setting. The whole crew of guys that work there were very down to earth and a pleasure to hang out with. The food was absolutely amazing. It was a lot of hiking for a one-night stay, but the rate that money exited our wallets while we were there provided sufficient inspiration for our legs to haul us back out the next day. I don’t mean that in a negative way. It is a fancy place and everything comes in on a plane. Just want to point out that between lodging, meals, and drinks…it adds up fast.

There is nowhere else quite like this place. I've been there three times now, and each time I didn't want to leave. The staff is warm, helpful, and talented (an organic garden that supplies the vegetables for dinner every night, really?!). The setting is idyllic. The accommodations are surprisingly luxurious (if you get Boulder, the first remodeled cabin) or at the very least, clean and comfortable (if you get a tee-pee). I've stayed in both with my husband and child and we've loved each experience. My daughter is a city kid but she loved the trip -- frogs, deer, owls, goslings, salmon, and other wildlife kept her enchanted at Minam. My husband and I were equally content to while away the hours hiking, jumping in the river, or sitting on our deck with a bottle of wine. We will definitely go back!

I have traveled into the Minam several times over the years but most recently in the fall of 2016. I was curious about the rumored changes. I was delightfully surprised! The upgraded facilities are rustic yet elegant but more importantly they are in harmony with the environment. The food was fresh, flavorful and the chef was sensitive to special, diet needs. There were large stout corrals, for my stock. But my favorite part was the evening campfire with guitar and song. Incredible experience...a memory that will always produce a smile!

This place is rare. I love the cabins and could not believe the food -- so good. I recommended the Minam to my friend who is looking for a great rustic honeymoon getaway. The hiking/horseback is beautiful from here. My favorite places were the fire pit, the hot tub, and the peaceful river. Thank you Minam for an unforgettable stay!

No cell. No ‘net. No roads. Minam River Lodge was the perfect place to unplug. We flew in so we would be ready on Day 1 for fishing and hiking. Other (super interesting) guests rode horses or hiked in. We gathered for family-style meals in the lodge knowing that our dinner would feature produce from the Minam Lodge garden (thanks to resident gardener Nicole). Chef Carl honored that produce and the locally sourced meat with deliciousness. Vegetarian options were equally tasty. Manager Isaac made everyone feel at home and assisted with any request. Teepees, wall tents, lodge rooms and cabins offer a variety of sleeping options. Our cozy cabin featured a copper sink, rain-fall shower, handmade soap, and a comfy bed. The hand-built touches abound — furniture, ceramics, timber framing. Solar panels keep the place in power. Four rockers encourage sitting and reading from a small library of well-curated books. My husband fly-fished both the gin-clear Minam and Little Minam. He got lots of hits and a couple of rainbows. I hiked the nearby Minam River Trail, which offered plenty of spots where I could sit and contemplate my existence. The trek up to Backbone Ridge was steep but not difficult with great views. On our last night, two singers entertained us on the deck. Mountains provided the backdrop while their voices blended and lofted to the heavens. We turned in early and kept the windows open so they could serenade us to sleep. We highly recommend Minam River Lodge.

The Minam river valley is breathtaking gorge nestled into the middle of the wilderness. The lodge is hike or fly in only and has a very secluded feeling. On the hill above the landing strip, there are a few quaint and cozy cabins spread through the woods, and one large lodge in middle. The whole place has a very rustic feel but has all the modern amenities and comforts. The veiw from the large porch is spectacular every morning, and there is always wildlife nearby. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a break from the hustle and bustle.

The Minam River Lodge is a storied and special property located ten miles from the nearest road in the middle of Eastern Oregon's remote Eagle Cap Wilderness. (You have to hike, horseback ride or fly in to get there). I first went there as a child and fell in love with the place –– mule trains on the trail, salmon spawning in the river, stunning woods and mountains –– but the cabins and lodge fell into disrepair and I thought it might be lost for good. But now the Minam's back and better than ever! The new owner has restored the place from the ground up, and it's beautiful. The cabins are made with lumber milled from the land and have appointments like luxury beds and furniture that's been crafted on-site, there's a big greenhouse and a full-time gardener growing organic food for the (amazing) meals at the lodge, and the serenity and wildness that makes the Minam special is all around you. This is where I go to relax and recharge and reconnect with nature and family and the things that really matter –– every year, without fail.

Oasis is the word that comes to mind. Not the desert type, but an Oregon Version. We visited in the late summer of 2014 and then again in 2015. We hiked in (much to the dismay of our 3 kids, 8, 10 and 12 in the first visit). But we underestimate what kids can do, and with lots of snacks and breaks we hiked in and out all 8.5 miles. So arriving after the long hike was like we arrived in an oasis. Peaceful and beautiful. We stayed in the wall tent (on a platform), and our kids stayed in the tepee. The new cabins they are building appear to be 5 &1/2 stars, the tent we stayed in is definitely GALAMPING, on a platform with a heavenly bed. The Tepee is closer to camping, a simple structure and cots on a dirt floor. The meals are family style, and a fun way to get to know other people. After breakfast I'd grab a cup of their great coffee and sit on their deck and take in the view of the valley and the deck. During the day we walked to the river, watched the horses, talked to other guests and relaxed. It was AWESOME to find out that they grow much of their own food, and the greenhouse and garden is really cool. Later in the day we'd play card games and use the outdoor wood-fired tub.I can't wait to see the new lodge. (and for my kids to get older so they'll complain less about the hike ;)

I really was so excited about this trip. I planned it for June so we could save a little by coming into their mud season. First off, the lodge setting is beautiful. We hiked in and stayed at the pole tent. Mosquitos were completely insane. They have so much standing water around the property. The weather was very warm. No electricity in the tents. VERY HOT. The first night they insisted dinner was at 6. We showed and they said they were running late. Food was served at 6:35 and COLD. Polenta was firm, meat was cold. Not at all impressed with dinner. Toddler was crying the entire dinner. The next morning breakfast was good but small even though we had the full breakfast. We just hiked 8.5 with packs so we were hungry. Lunch was good but Brian was still hungry.Managers were off than on, so requests were lost. Assumed thats why we got a little discount for mud season. They were still working out kinks. For $1400 for 2 nights...shouldn't have so many kinks.Second night, food was very good. ONCE AGAIN>>> CRYING TODDLER. Not acceptable at all.Truthfully I can't recommend unless people have dispensable income and $1500 for 2 nights is no big deal and they are ok with kids ruining dinner. Hot Tub and sauna were nice!

My husband, dog, and I had a wonderful stay at the lodge this weekend (in the Lupine tent). The meals were incredible, the bed was super comfy, the people were extremely friendly, and I really appreciated all the attention to detail - especially when it comes to pet friendliness. As far as I’m concerned, this place meets or exceeds the amenities offered at high-end eco lodges anywhere in the world.I wish I would have known more about the hike before agreeing to do it both ways, but I’m bad at reading topo maps and there wasn’t a lot of info out there except to say it was 8.5 miles and “mostly down on the way in and mostly up on the way out.” I’m a novice hiker/backpacker and this trail was completely doable. However, I would have planned/hiked differently if I had more info.So here is my attempt at a trail description: the trailhead starts at 5800 feet and immediately you hike down about 800-1000 feet over the first ~1/4 of the hike. Then you meander through the forest and along/across the river and a pretty cool ridge for the next ~1/2 of the hike. Finally, you fall another 800-1000 feet on a long switchback to a flat trail to the lodge. (Disclaimer - my elevation changes could be a bit off - my husband is a pretty experienced backpacker and he guesstimated the changes. Suffice it to say, though, that it goes down-flat-down heading to the lodge, and up-flat-up leaving). I found myself taking little breaks every 5-10 minutes over the last mile on the way out.The trail is beautiful, but it is a horse highway. That was expected, but the droppings (and therefore the flies) are hard to dodge. Bring more bugspray than you think you’ll need (and save some for the lodge - the mosquitoes there are no joke). It’s also pretty rocky and has some muddy spots. There is plenty of moving water for dogs and horses along the way. I accidentally mixed up my water bottles and ended up drinking a half liter of river water with no ill effects. Hiking poles would have been wonderful.
