This place was unexpected for an eating spot. 90% of indoors is dedicated to items to buy for your pet (mostly dog stuff, naturally, but some things for cats also). Lots of wall decor centered on dogs. The menu is very niche...lots of fermented items, several meatless options, and definitely not your average run of the the mill menu selection. Bahn mi with tofu for example. Vegan mac and cheese, which my daughter ordered...was very tangy. We ordered a bread appetizer that came with fermented dips...my fav was a creamy dip made from beets. There was also chimmichurri and a tapenade. All 3 fermented, so had a vinegary flavor. I had shrimp tacos which were good...so full i had to eat some shrimp with my fork before trying to pick up and hold the tacos because it didn't all fit...not a bad problem to have! Bf had the morels and gnocchi. Generous servings. One thing i would say about the mac n cheese is that some of the noodles were dried out/crunchy and maybe could have spent less time under the broiler. Maybe a torch to brown the top would be better so the noodles don't dry out. There were maybe 3 small tables inside and 2 tables outside so not a great spot for large groups or when it is busy. This is a good place if you like fermented or vegan foods. Not great if you are looking for mainstream american food i.e. a cheeseburger or other "basic" foods. If you are looking for something different, this is the spot. One server lady working and she was friendly. She does this weird laugh after everything she says which made conversation a bit awkward but not really a complaint. Not overly attentive. I think the food came and then we did not see her at the table again, which was fine for us as we did not need anything extra.Vegetarian options: They definitely cater to folks looking for meatless and dairy free optionsParking: Parking is located on the street and somewhat hard to find, down the street, if it is a busy day in town. In other words. You may have to park the next block or two down, from the restaurant/store.Wheelchair accessibility: The inside is not very wheelchair friendly as the space is crowded and i would think difficult to maneuver a chair around easily. Indoor seating is also a bit cramped. Might be ok to use outdoor seating. Front door is not automatic/handicap friendly.

If your a foodie and a dog/cat person, you’re gonna love this place. The food is easily the best in town and the staff is happy and easy to be with. Don’t let the pet store vibe fool you. This place also serves amazing food with a rotating menu. You can tell they love what they do. We’ll done.

Wow, I was not expecting to find veg options on Joseph, Oregon but The Dog Spot did not disappoint. Please go here for really yummy food, vegans/vegetarians/omnivores!!!First, the inside has got some great options for dog owners (and I think some for cats too!). My friend bought a toy for her friend’s puppy, and the owner was very friendly. We came back in the evening for dinner and sat outside for a lovely meal. There’s not too much seating outside, maybe two or three tables, but it wasn’t busy when we went (and in general it was rather quiet in town).I ordered the jackfruit banh mi — I’ve never had jackfruit before and I loved this SO MUCH! Ate it all up. Also I don’t actually like kimchi but I loved every bite of this meal. My friend got the chorizo street tacos and enjoyed her meal as well. Everything was so tasty, didn’t take long for our order to come out, and service and atmosphere of the place was wonderful. We mostly cooked each meal during the trip to avoid going out (with the pandemic and all), but I’m so glad we spent our last dinner in town at The Dog Spot!

What a pleasant surprise. After a recommendation, this could be the most unique, artisan and flavorful menus we explored on our trip. The Dog Spot is a small table restaurant and pet shop in one. The food is incredible. We live in Portland where the culinary creations can be too exotic, to odd and too forced. But, the team at the Dog Spot mixed traditional ingredients with super flavorful alternatives to make the ideal dish over and over again. Two kids devoured there street tacos and Mac and cheese, and the wife and I had Banh Mi and a salad. The surprise of the day was how incredible the Jack Fruit Banh Mi sandwich was. I ate it all!!Best food, fun spot, and supporting local families. Best of all factors.Oh, don’t forget to get a glass of the Pomegranate Sangria

Wow, this place is amazing! The food is all made from scratch and is so delicious. We ordered the tandoori chicken sandwich, Korean shrimp tacos and mac and cheese. All dishes were perfect and we raved about them even the next day! The staff is so friendly and they even have outdoor seating! We will definitely be coming back.

Such a diverse menu but literally everything my table ordered was wonderful. tons of vegetarian options!!! I had the Bahn Mi with Tofu+Brussel Sprout Kimchi - bizarre item but it was so delicious. There was so much going on at once, but somehow it all worked. Highly recommend this little cafe.

Absolutely wonderful! This pet store is a culinary delight. They're a super fun store with all kinds of items for your furry friends. The side area is a full service restaurant with a rotating menu of expertly curated items.I was given a tip from a friend that I might enjoy this place. I arranged a guys trip with a few buddies and we stopped in to check it out. The menu at that time was Korean inspired dishes. We ordered several menu items and allowed the chef to prepare a few options of his choosing. We shared all items family style and were taken on a flavor filled trip from start to finish. Everything was absolutely excellent!Thank you so much for the experience and I will definitely be back as soon as possible.

Great little spot with a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. The chef will swap out tofu or jackfruit for a lot of meat options and the flavors are amazing. Bought a jar of sauerkraut for home it was so good. Highly recommend!

I went there to find something to eat, but the Cafe was closed. It smelled like dog food so I lost my appetite even if the Cafe were to be open. I looked at all the dog stuff wich wasn't bad. Then we tried to go to the bathroom fallowing the signs and grumpy old lady yelled at me that the bathroom was blocked off but it clearly was not. Then I went out side and the lady watched as I peed myself since the bathroom was closed then I swear I heard her cackle at me... We walk by later and what do I see that's right people chowing down on some food.Kid-friendliness: The lady does not like kids

A pleasant place to drink and eat, with great food by a committed husband and wife team. Eclectic menu ranging from Thai tofu (delish) to Mac and Cheese and Argentine beef. Fantastically-priced Oregon and Washington wines, and save room for serious desserts.

Incredibly delicious food! Super friendly and attentive owners and staff. This is five star cuisine prepared from scratch by a master chef. The chef and his wife are the owners and it's like being a guest in their home. Amazing! Ingredients are super fresh and perfectly prepared.

Super find. Amazing, creative food from a chef who has traveled the world and returned with expert knowledge of many cuisined. The turmeric infused couscous salad , the north African shrimp tacos and the sautéed green bean in a fermented black bean sauce were my favorites. Wonderful, friendly service. There is no place for hundreds of miles this delicious. And the wine list is also very interesting and a reaj bargain. Thanks Chef for feeding us this week..

Amazing chorizo and potato tacos. The thicker tortillas soaked in different sauces above and below is innovative and a great mouth feel and taste layering. Copious amount of food stuffed in the tacos. Great price. Attention to texture, spice, flavor complexity and proportions. Well done. The sour cream lemon pie changed my mind about sour cream. The crust was flaky and not dry. Filling was light and just the right amount of sweet with a delightful tang.

Through the winter I went to this restaurant listening to the owner speak of how they were just hanging in there. I liked Dogspot and often recommended it to visitors. Come summer, I escorted a happy group of 5 of us there greeting no less than 3 friends who happened to be dining there as well. There was a small table available piled with merchandise and a party of 2 at a large table. The couple graciously offered to let us sit at the big table and they would move to the smaller table once it was cleared. We happily offered to buy them drinks or desserts — or both! However, one of the owners yelled at me — just me —that we would do no such thing, and that we were not welcome. Stunned, we didn’t run away immediately so, she yelled again at us to leave. It was quite a dressing down, everyone stared and our three visitors we had in tow were shocked - especially after we had touted the place and they had been enjoying the lovely atmosphere of Joseph. I have never experienced anything quite like that and I certainly won’t be back. ☹️

As a local who has seen many restaurants in this town, I can honestly say this place serves some of the finest food and drink in this area. The owners are friendly people who are enthusiastic about what they do. The chef is known to come to your table himself and ask you how your meal was. A dinner there has never failed to impress me. If you're in town, I'd recommend it. The shop itself is filled with everything a dog-lover could want.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff know how to accommodate vegetarians. Great salad and Thai fusion fried rice and curry. Waitress/ pastry chef apologized because the flourless chocolate cake was a little grainy, but I loved it.

Never ate in a store for dogs before, but we went in due to the good reviews. We didn't regret it. The Banh Mi sandwich and the gazpacho was excellent, the shrimp tacos we're good and spicy. I might have given it 4 stars due to the quinoa salad being a little bland. The nice staff, the coffee and the sour creme key lime pie were absolutely phenomenal though.

Name another town with a population of around a thousand where you can enjoy house-made perfectly-cooked udon noodles with a heavenly broth, or pillowy house-made gnocchi? Add to that a couple you’re always happy to see, and you have the Dog Spot in Joseph. Bravo, Arion and Amy (yet again)!

We sat outside on the patio with our puppy and the seats were still nice for being outside. Seriously the best pork tacos I've ever had and the mac and cheese was to die for!! We even got a second serving of tacos because they were so good! The thai ice tea cheesecake was also very yummy and I wasnt expecting it, this made me a cheesecake fan for sure because it was so good. All in all it was just amazing food, and it was even better because of the very friendly owners. I would highly reccomend to anyone passing through, with or without dogs!
