As a small business owner myself, when things go wrong for a customer that is when you have an opportunity to build loyalty. They dropped the ball this time this time.

Flies are excellent in quality and price.If you’re buying flies elsewhere in North America, they most likely bought them from here and resell them for 3-4 times the price.Staff is helpful without sales pressure. Had questions about their line of rods and Costa sunglasses - zero pressure to buy, just honest personal opinion and advice.Walked out with $65 in flies that would have easily cost me 4 times that back home in Calgary, AB.Another order just placed for pickup.

Top notch gear and the service is just as good as walking into a shop even with online orders. Great flies....not sure I need to go anywhere else for my fly fishing needs and for a fraction of the price of most other places with equally good products. Don't sleep on the BigY Reel. Everything about Big Y Fly has been great. A couple of years ago, I was interested in trying Euro Nymph fishing. Staff answered a ton of questions and offered great advice. I ended up getting a Big Y standard outfit with a 3 wt 10' rod and 3/4 wt Big Y standard reel. Wow! Both have been fantastic. Set up is nicer than outfits costing two or three times as much. When the reel got run over by a semi (don't ask...), instead of running over to a shop to get a new reel for my week of camping, I decided to wait and re-order the Big Y standard reel, as I knew I'd be getting a great reel at a fraction of what I'd pay for "name" reels.Selection of flies is great, and the quality are all top notch. These too are a fraction of what other places charge. In a recent small order, USPS mashed the package, and Big Y responded immediately and is sending out a replacement for the one damaged item. Shipping always arrives ahead of the expected date, and orders are always well packaged and accurate (and there is only so much one can do with a semi running over a reel, or a USPS fork lift peeling out on a envelope).They are fantastic. Big Y is by far the best fly shop in the Gorge. They've consistently gone above and beyond what any other tackle shop has ever done for me. I had recently enrolled in a fly tying class completely unrelated to Big Y and asked if they could help put together a materials kit that would help me get through the course. Having never even met me, or had any of my business, they took an entire 2 days to help me out finding as many materials as I needed, when they could have just told me they didn't have the time to put that much effort into just one customer. Every single time I email them asking for advice or help with things, they always steer me in the right direction, even if that means recommending something they may not have. They obviously feel that being honest and helpful brings customers back, and for that I will always go to Big Y before any other shop in the area. They have a really cool showroom pickup option that allows me to basically grab my materials same day and have probably the best prices on quality flies in the Gorge. I can't express just how helpful they've been to me, being brand new to fly tying and fly fishing. They are the embodiment of customer service and they deserve your business. Don't look anywhere else without looking here first. You won't be disappointed with the products or the people. Big ups for Big Y, they're AWESOME all around.

I'm going to make it a point to stop by the shop on my way to or from the Lower Deschutes the next time and say hi to these great folks. OMG..best local flyshop in Hood River Oregon. They have the largest selection of flies I ever seen. I bought some flies online before and visited them in person. I never knew this shop had so many flies. The prices are the best part. They are half of the cost from other fly shops. The quality of the flies are top knoch. They also have other fly tying materials, reels and fly rods. They have everything you need.

this is my second order from them and I have to say I am very impressed. they have everything I need and the prices are incredible. the quality is on par with my local fly shop but much more reasonably priced. fast shipping and free shipping over 45 bucks. not only do they have a new customer I will recommend them to my friends.

Just placed our first order a week ago and couldn't be happier. The order will filled quickly and their ship/delivery communication is wonderful. The quality of the flies are very good and they follow up with the order even after it's delivered to make sure you received it, and are happy. We had an issue with our post office misplacing the package, and Big Y's customer service, Ben, was very instrumental in helping to resolve. Couldn't be happier and plan on purchasing from them again and again. Would recommend.

I ordered a few flies a couple weeks ago after finding them online. I ordered them on a Friday night about 7. I was surprised to have them at my door Monday morning. I didn't even select special shipping. I was also impressed with the quality of the flies in comparison to the cost. All the flies I got were very nice and of good quality. In fact, I just placed another order and got a buddy to order a bunch too. Really happy with the flies, service, shipping and their website. Big Y Fly is now my go to online fly shop!

Unfortunately I don't agree with most of the other reviews online for this company. I purchased about $60 worth of flies this past spring. None of the flies I have purchased from Big Y have lasted long at all. One fell apart as I tied it to my tippet for the first time. Most of them only last through one or two fish. The hooks bend easily and the material comes unraveled quickly. This isn't just one or two flies, this refers to all the flies. I have gone through most of my order and it's only early July.On the flip side, some of my order was missing upon arrival and the customer service team was quick to refund my money.

We recently order over 100 flies from Big Y and the USPS lost our package! I reached out to them after going to the post office with no results and they send me the whole order again since it was lost! Customer service is top notch! I highly recommend them and will continue to use them.

I order flies from Big Y almost every 2 weeks. Shipping is always super fast. Recently had a couple orders arrive not 100% correct. I didn't bother to say anything until I had a problem with the second order. Once I emailed them they were very prompt to respond. They went ABOVE AND BEYOND 110% to make things right and instantly had a new package mailed to me. The flies have been of good quality, I've paid much more for worse. I cant think of any reason not to order from Big Y. I only wish they had a bigger selection of barbless flies online.

I usually wait a while before I review a new fly shop, but Big Y is such a welcoming provider of the wonders that are fly fishing. They have everything you would need if you are a beginner to a guide. There is no other place to purchase fly tying materials of this depth and at the prices they offer them. The staff is very friendly and made me feel at home quickly. My only concern is that I did not find them sooner! For all your fly fishing needs, check out Big Y. They will take care of you on any budget and for nearly any species.

The best customer service I’ve ever experienced from a fly fishing retailer. These guys have gone above and beyond for me multiple times. As a beginning fly fisherman getting his first flies 8 years ago with the fly of the month program to now as a newbie fly tier looking to try new patterns. They have been super helpful when I’ve ordered the wrong things, needed to add something I forgot to my order, or just needed advice on what to order. If you live on the west coast they are super fast with shipping. I usually get things in 2 days. Thank you Big Y for being my secret weapon and an amazing help with catching trout.

I have probably left two reviews ever in my lifetime. Big Y Fly warrants a third! Super easy to order on their website. Flys shipped the next day and received a day later. I’m all about supporting your local fly shop but the value that this company brought, along with the follow up emails and customer service....well let’s just say fly shops are for gear and line now!
