Last summer I was on a motorcycle trip with a riding buddy. We had planned the trip out pretty well, but motorcycle trips can be unpredictable. I ended up in an accident and I no longer needed the hotel. I called about 24 hrs ahead to notify the lodge of the need to cancel and they told me they could only cancel the room if it sold. 24 hrs is pretty standard for free cancellations, and showing some understanding would have been better. They charged me $177 for the full price of the room, when it is pretty likely that it would sell in the summer. I could even see if they charged 50%, since they won't make much anything if it goes unsold. Charging full price for a room when the customers don't show just isn't the right thing to do. There wasn't any cost to clean that roomfor the night, so a 50% charge would still make some profit. Being mean on the phone and blocking google reviews didn't help.

I received someone else’s reservation in my email after receiving ours. Luckily, I would never use that information but easily could. The day we were arriving, we called ahead to check if we could come in later in the evening, since I know little lodges don’t man the desk at all hours due to costs. The lady we spoke with made me nervous when she said she wasn’t sure if we had a reservation for the night since she had checked that morning and didn’t see it, and said that she would check when she got back to the office. Luckily, we did have a reservation. They did let us check in later and provided a second blanket when we asked about 30 minutes after checkin. The blanket on the bed was relatively thin for weather in the 30s. They provided a blanket that was well used but cozy.Granted we DID stay in the off season, we were disappointed. We had the room with the kitchen. Most of the appliances are old and outdated. We didn’t try to use the stove since it was very old and the heater in the bathroom did not work. Although we had the kitchen there were only 2 forks, 2 spoons, 3 knives, a small pot, cutting board, and 1 dish rag. There were no drinking cups (except for the disposable coffee cups with the small coffee maker), no plates or bowls, no sauce pan or pan to use with the oven. We had to buy things in order to actually use the kitchen. There was no sponge to clean the dishes. The tvs are basic cable. No one was on site our second night and we really needed some extra towels. We texted and tried the door bell. The saving grace for us was just the location and proximity to the activity we were utilizing near by and the kindness of the exchanges we did have with the people. While I don’t mean to write a scathing review of the place, I do think it’s important for people to know what they’re actually getting when booking a room in the off season. The website is deceiving about the amenities and uses the words “comfortable accommodations” and “fully equipped,” which I did not believe to be accurate. I do hope that the amenities are better in the summer, when the demand for the room is higher and people are actually on site.

I will start by saying the owners were very pleasant and helpful and our room was clean. However, I did not sleep at all. Paper thin walls. This place really needs more insulation. One neighbor left their TV blaring all night until 5 am and you could hear every word of the TV show and any conversations in the next rooms. This makes me unlikely to stay here again sadly.

The rooms were very nice and clean, the staff was exceptionally friendly. They do a really good job at making sure their guest are happy and try to entertain the kids as much as possible. Considering the devastating fire that destroyed the majority of the town, the 4 rooms that they have are very nice. The beds are comfortable the pillows are perfect. We will definitely be staying again.

Awesome place to stay. The staff is incredible and super friendly. They were always checking in to see if I needed anything when I saw them. The room was clean and had a full kitchen and large fridge. Will definitely stay here in the future if I’m lucky enough to find a vacancy.

This is the perfect little place to get away from the nonsense that comes with living in a city. It’s small, comfortable, and very clean. Staff is friendly as can be too. I’m only here for work but would take my wife here one day too.

I stopped hoping to find a room. What a huge surprise this has turned out to be. Gas fireplace was awesome on this cold, wet night! The huge, fenced dog run in back was perfect for my dog to run around a bit after traveling. The room was enchanting with country knotty pine furnishings that look perfectly handmade like you’d think of at a ski lodge. The innkeepers were super nice. And even provided a doggie gift bag with towel, blanket, bowl and treats. They’ve really gone out of their way to be special! And I love it.

Booked a room last minute and enjoyed the upgrade to the newer, remodeled room. The owner/managers were wonderful to make out experience amazing. Unfortunately, our room had been subject to a party the night before and they invited ants... the management bent over backwards to make it right, we were not upset at all, we just wanted to give good feedback. It is so wonderful to experience real down-to-earth people who care about your experience. We will be back, no doubt about it. We love keeping our money local and this was an awesome place to do that!!

They have horrible customer service. I don’t think I will be using them anymore. We had rented a room for some workers to come up and help us rebuild from the fire. Due to the snow the workers couldn’t make it anymore. I called them and changed the date to the following weekend and the workers still weren’t able to come so I called them with a day under a weeks notice and told them I would like to cancel the room since I didn’t know the next time the workers could make it up due the snow. The lady yelled at me telling me I couldn’t do that, and she won’t be refunding my money. I told her I don’t care she can charge us for the room and charge another family and double up on profit. The fact is that the workers won’t be checking in. She still decided to yell at me and talk about how much of a horrible person I was (even though I told her to keep the money) she then decided to hang up on me. So looks like they will be double profiting this weekend. Nice character people. Good job!We are just residents trying to rebuild from the horrible fire that effected both of us. It’s not our fault that the work crew couldn’t come up due to the snow, and that they said they won’t be rescheduling with us until the snow was cleared. I gave you guys a weeks notice and you still kept our money. I hope karma catches up to you. So sad to do this to fellow Detroiters. So much for Detroit Strong.

It was an unfortunate accident closing the road home until midnight that we found ourselves stranded. Decided we'd make the best of a bad situation and checked into The Lodge. What a wonderful place. It is the cleanest motel I have ever stayed in. The staff was courteous and helpful. Slept like a baby until 4am to get home and be at work by 7. I recommend it and know I will go back to just enjoy. It's lovely.

We were here for the total solar eclipse. They honored the reservation and prices booked 1.5 years ago. The room is nice, clean and cozy. They have a large communal area for BBQ, but there was a burn ban so we had to use a portable butane stove. The staff are friendly and showed us all the things to do and suggested places to see the eclipse. The crowds were smaller than expected because of the nearby fires

I was in the middle of a snow storm at 10 pm when I pulled over and found this place. And was grateful I did. It was a bit pricey but worth it to not drive in that storm. The lady I talked to was very friendly.

Absolutely beautiful weekend. The room was cozy and welcoming. The bathtub with the added lavender salt suggested by the front desk was amazing? exactly what I needed after a snow day. Everyone was very friendly. I we didn't want to leave, but we will definitely be back.

This was an excellent place to stay in Detroit, Oregon. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and there was nice seating outdoors for a picnic dinner or a morning cup of tea in the sun. But really what made this place extra nice was the lovely couple who manage the Lodge. They were so friendly, and always available for a question or to offer you help if needed. I would definitely stay here if I am in the area again.

I stayed over the weekend in their newly remodeled suite. It was one of the most beutiful rooms I’ve ever seen with a beautiful fireplace, nice sheets, jet tub with even a rubber ducky:) I stayed during the off season but the price was very affordable! I never write reviews but I was so moved, great place!

When we booked online for February 2019 we trusted the photos and thought we were getting the full kitchen and island, with the fireplace and sofas...nope. We go the "non" updated room now listed as #12 on their website - when indeed we requested #5. That being said - call to confirm what amenities the room you want has or be disappointed with no recourse. Now - 5 stars for the staff at the front desk, friendly and caring despite the "issue". ( # first world problems ) We just wouldn't have paid that much for THAT room.

Eh ... I was excited to stay. Clean. Good location.Tried to call 3 times to let them know I was coming in late. (Being in the industry I try to book the day before so I can get in late and they don't have to rush the room.) They never answered and got me set up when I got in.Sold the second night I pland to stay. And didn't offer a different room ... Or a discount. Or more than "Yeah, sorry. It showed available on-line. So we got people comin' in."Probably my fault for coming in late and I could have made sure it was all set up. But ... I'm the guest. I just expected alittle more service, feeling like my business doesn't mater to them. Maybe I expected too much? All in all - Good people. Clean, Nice rooms. Reasonable service. Worth the money.

Jacuzzi did't work but the stuff fixed for us. Clean and cozy room. Our room had a full kitchen but no salt, pepper, sugar and oil etc..So I recommend to take those if you plan to cook. It's smaller than we imagined but enjoyed our stay. Very friendly and helpful stuff.

The little town of Detroit, Oregon is such a little gem that any place within it feels so homey and welcoming. The Lodge at Detroit Lake is no different. It's nestled within the core of little Detroit and is very close to the lake itself. It's not exactly lakeside, but it's close enough, but still has the forest feel the town envelopes. The Lodge itself isn't necessarily a lodge in the traditional sense. It has no large lobby, but does provide a courtyard of sorts that includes fire pits, lounge chairs and picnic tables (see pictures). The rooms themselves are very clean and well maintained. It's great to be able to feel confident before even getting there that it'll be nice and ready for your stay. However, be prepared that they are extremely small. The room we stayed in (#6) provided a queen size bed, a small bathroom with toilet and soaker tub (jetted!), a sink and mirror outside the bathroom and an electric fireplace to round it out. We were barely able to fit our 4 year old boy on the bed with us, though, cots are provided for an extra fee.The soaker tub was especially great for my little guy, who had a nice bubble bath.Dogs are welcome too for $15 (no matter how many nights you stay). The location is great as well. Very close to bars, restaurants and markets.

The owner of the Lodge at Detroit Lake was most accommodating. She supplied us with ice for our Room and ice for ice chest. Elaine was very helpful helpful in suggesting places to eat dinner. This motel is very quaint and most appropriately decorated for a mountain lodge. The new wing is updated and fantastic; including a gas fireplace in each of the rooms. Outdoor picnic tables, barbecues and open pit fire places are available for use by registered guess. We will most definitely return to the Lodge at Detroit Lake. Thank you Elaine, for your most excellent hospitality and wonderful motel.
