DO NOT BUY FROM THESE "BREEDERS"I purchased a Siberian husky puppy from PhiChase Siberians/Samantha & Charles Dickason in June, 2019. After a 7 week wait, I drove 2 ½ hours and picked my puppy up from their Philomath, OR home. Once home, I noticed a sizeable mass on her back right leg about ½ golf ball in size and extremely hard. I immediately notified the “breeders” as they had outlined in the “contract” I had signed. They told me it was likely swelling from wrestling with her litter mates that morning, and to ice the swollen area. I got her into the vet as soon as I was able. After X-rays, a board-certified radiologist diagnosed it as Calcinosis Circumscripta, NOT swelling. This condition is rare and can be from a trauma or it could be hereditary. At this time, the cause was unknown. Over the next month, I went to multiple vets for more opinions, all coming back the same diagnosis. I sent the X-rays to the “breeders” who then sent them to the vet of their choice, also confirming the diagnosis.Unfortunately, the mass kept growing, ultimately locking her rear leg straight. She had zero range of motion in that joint and could not sit properly. This caused severe muscle tremors in her leg that would cause her to scream in pain. I was referred to a vet orthopedic surgeon for treatment, as the condition is so rare, no general vet would consider it. The mass continued to grow and cause pain. In December 2019, when puppy was only 6 months old, she had surgery. The orthopedic surgeon was INCREDIBLE and was able to remove every trace of the calcification. However, it immediately grew back and within six weeks was its original size, pushing through the surgery incision. By the first week of February 2020, she had to have her leg amputated. Before the first surgery, I reached out to these “breeders” asking if they would assist in the cost of the surgery. I received no help from them, only an offer to take the puppy back and swap for another one, where they would “treat and rehome her to another family” or $650 of my $850 money paid back and I could either return the dog, or keep her and the contract would be void. I reached out to an animal law attorney in Oregon who told me I had a solid case, so I rejected both offers. I never understood why they would treat and rehome her to another family but would not treat her and return her to me. I offered to settle with them or to sue. They kicked me out of their Facebook group and blocked me, and my e-mail and settlement letter went unanswered. They hired an attorney increasing my overall costs, which I was hoping to avoid for both of our benefits. I sued them for the cost of all her vet bills plus attorney fees only and won at arbitration. They didn't bother attending arbitration after battling this for more than 10 months. The arbitration decision was appealed by their attorney, and costs continued to rise to over $25K but I ultimately won the appeal as well.As of May 28, 2020 they had NEVER been a REGISTERED BUSINESS in the state of Oregon, even though they are operating as one (two if you consider their other business Jekota, who I did not conduct business with, but with whom routinely shares dogs and is based out of the same location, as they are married). They guaranteed me an AKC registered puppy, with AKC paperwork to be provided after I spayed my puppy. I never received the AKC paperwork. I was provided a health guarantee that ended up being erroneous. My Siberian husky's growth is stunted from the calcium condition. This condition has now repeated on her other back leg and has been found to be hereditary in her case. The puppy’s Dam and Sire (Trulee and Taz) are now both “retired” luckily. This is my first and last time I get a dog from a breeder. I am hoping you all learn from my mistake and DO NOT make the same one I did. ADOPT FROM A SHELTER or some other organization that is legally registered.
