Love how I can go visit the cats. Staff is very friendly and care about the cats. Eventually ended up adopting two cats, both total sweetheart cuddle bugs. Thank you so much for my cats. I have had them about two months now and absolutely love them.

I waited a long time (days) before deciding to post this because I know that there are genuine people at this organization who mean well and truly care for the welfare of animals. That being said, it does not discount the horrific miscommunication and utter disregard for clientele (they even THREW AWAY personal belongings after lying - but more on that later).First and foremost, I must preface this review with the fact that I have been a long-time supporter of Heartland Humane. I’ve donated to their organization SEVERAL times to support senior animals under their care. I’ve even stopped by and donated brand new things for the dogs (as I’ve had a dog many years). I am not here to trash the organization, but I do need to shed light on how much their lack of integrity has caused MUCH damage to others.I have been working with a feral cat for MONTHS to get her adoptable. I am highly aware of the difficulty of rehoming cats with this history, but I was assured (almost half a year ago when I first found her) that there was a “shy cat” program where she would be worked with. Despite my severe allergy and lack of experience with cats (I’m a dog person and have never worked this long to rehab a feral cat), she had made so much progress and the shelter told me they could take her in. Awesome! I was under the impression that someone would work with her to ensure she was adoptable.Always erring on the side of caution (as it’s usually weeks or months before ANYONE responds to my emails), I dropped by and spoke with a staff person who put me at ease - she said the shelter would not be a good environment for a cat with this history… and since the cat was doing so great, she would do best to continue to be a great house cat at a foster. I agreed. I was PROMISED that she would be looked after and would have a foster so she would not regress after all her progress.Well, a couple weeks pass, I’m finally able to not only pick her up and carry her but also put her into a carrier with no problem. She looks like a lightbulb. I realize she may be pregnant and decided to call and see if they would still take her. They said yes. This was great because I am in the process of moving and I don’t want to foster a pregnant cat amidst a long distance relocation. The cat (all animals, for that matter)’s well-being is more important than my feelings and I knew that though I had formed a bond, I was allergic, would be moving and with her pregnant that adds an additional urgency to finding her a foster.I was told multiple times from MULTIPLE people at this organization to bring her familiar things so she can adjust to foster life and eventually be rehomed.I drop her off (with ALL her things, I even buy extra bags of food and put in all of her familiar things for her)… and have a strange feeling. I felt like no one knew what I was talking about. I drop her off and the person who helped me said there “should” be a foster waiting if I was told that. Suddenly, it sounded like she would only have a foster if she was pregnant.Fast fwd a couple days and I’m told she’s not pregnant (which is hard to believe, because once she was fixed she was her normal size again)…. And that she was in the shelter and not doing well. NO foster. So despite moving out of my house, I decided I needed to pick her up and get her out of there ASAP.Now here’s the kicker, not only did they lie to me about having a foster for her (she’s a completely different cat now - food aggressive, very insecure, panicked all the time- all that great progress GONE) but when I asked for the box full of her things (I wrote her name all over the huge box at drop off), many things ($$) to make sure she had a smooth transition at the foster (which she never had), I was told all her stuff was gone. ALL OF IT.No apology. Said if I didn’t pick her up they’d make her a barn cat(!!). No foster. No rehome/adoption. They just lied to me, further traumatized her and took away all the things I need to foster her myself after they DUMPED my belongings.STAY AWAY FROM HEARTLAND.

I had an amazing experience when I took my babies to Heartland Humane Shelter for their vaccination clinic. One of my dogs has anxiety, and she didn't want to leave my side to go to the back with the tech. They were so gentle, patient, and loving with them! The techs came over and worked on becoming "friends" with her to create a more comfortable and trusting environment. Both of my pups were given endless love and treats during their visit, and they thoroughly enjoyed the attention (especially the treats!). I will absolutely book their future vaccinations with them again.I also wanted to mention that they accept donations of food and pet products for their pet food pantry. They also accept monetary donations for the shelter. I highly recommend giving them consideration when choosing a charity or a place to adopt your next furbaby. I've never had such an amazing and positive experience with a shelter as I have with this one. Thank you!

Amazing animal shelter. The staff was so kind and helpful. Dropped off a cute cat that needed help and he had been chipped and got united with his rightful owner within two hours. What a happy ending. 😊

Took in 15 cats locked in crates on a whim when everyone involved was helpless. Oregon humane society would never. This place is a true blessing to the community. Thank you heartland humane society for doing the right thing and caring. You are so appreciated.

Adopted our sweet girl Vader (formerly Cilantro) from here and it couldn’t have worked out more perfect. She’s been an amazing sister to our other cat, Yoda, and a great addition to our family.

The staff was not very professional. After finding a dog we wanted to adopt, we were denied. The acting manager was concerned the dog would attack my dog and kill it. If the dog was that dangerous why do they have the dog up for adoption??

I brought my cat here because I lived in an apartment and she wanted to be ann outside cat and I asked them to make sure she want somewhere with a yard or where she could go outside safe. ( I couldn’t keep her inside for the life of me) You would think they would communicate that they aren’t going to do that, otherwise I would have just figured it out then taking her there thinking I was doing the right thing.Fast forward to a couple weeks later she was outside my apartment complex and the guy up stairs had adopted her when I thought I did the right thing for her safety. I have seen her multiple times almost get ran over and the guy said “I thought about letting her be outside” on a busy road.? Where people do pay attention.? I was very disappointed that they just let anyone take anything before sending an animal to a home that will have the things it needs to be safe and have a happy life. Now I can’t get my cat back and now I’m worried that I’m going to come out my door and see her dead

They give the impression that they're willing to help people that have been through domestic violence, people who mental medical help. It's not the case

Visited here while I waited for my dog to get done at the groomers. I was surprised by the variety of dogs they had and the fact that several were transferred from other places to give them a better chance to be adopted. I thought it was really great they were able to provide that service to help place these dogs.I really enjoyed their cattery section. They have four different enclosed areas where the cats run loose and you can go and visit them. I spent most of my time in an area that had five young cats that had been brought in together that weren't very socialized. They spent lots of time looking at me and a couple of came out to visit. I heard lots of purring but they were awful shy and I enjoyed getting them to just come out and wander around near me. Beautiful youngsters who would have had a much easier time finding homes if their previous owner had brought them in when they were younger. Given the opportunity that they have now to become socialized by people visiting often I'm sure they're all going to find wonderful homes though. The setup here is really amazing and provides the opportunity for the cats to interact with the people who come to visit which I think is so positive. At least just if you're looking for a new feline or canine friend that you come and check out the Heartland Humane Society!

We adopted two beautiful kittens from Heartland. The animals at the shelter seem well taken care of. The staff was always kind when we visited sporadically over the course of a month before making our decision. They gave us great info on care & coupon booklets (for animal crackers).

We adopted our kitty Mr. Jumble from here! We love all that they do for all the animals and would love to adopt again but the prices are high and I cant afford to adopt again for a while at least. I do understand to get really good homes for these babies the price needs to be high along with shots, chips, and spay/neuter that each animal gets. It's a fair price for sure. I do wish that the lady upfront was a bit more "involved" with the customers... she was just stand offish... I didn't even know the whole transaction was done until I asked "is that it?"

I saw a comment below by someone saying this shelter put down their dog they sent here to be taken care of. No response came from this shelter and so I don’t think this shelter should be trusted with vulnerable animals.

I adopted a wonderful little Chihuahua that I can't imagine why original owners didn't want him! His name is Chico and he has unusually pretty markings. He is brown and white, and I would have named him Freckles if he didn't already know his name. He is very affectionate with people and likes to be held. He gets along great with my cat but doesn't seem to like other dogs. I'm hoping he will adapt, because my daughter's 2 dogs visit frequently. He was aggressive towards both of them, a Terrier and a 100 pound German Shepherd! Fortunately, both of her dogs know better than to defend themselves against a toothless 8 pound Chihuahua! I'm confident he will adjust.

I found the shelter through the adopt-a-pet website. They had a puppy that might fit what I was looking for in terms of age (8-12 weeks old), and breed (medium-sized working/sporting) in hopes the pup could grow up to be my service dog. They were quick to answer my e-mail request for more information about the puppy. However, in my experience they did not take enough time (only three weeks) to do a thorough examination of the puppy's temperament given where he came from (a hoarding/illegal breeding situation). After I adopted it, my trainer did their evaluation and then I really saw how extraordinarily fearful of people, places, and things the puppy was. I had to surrender him back to the shelter. It was a very stressful, disappointing, and frustrating situation all around. I think the shelter needs to slow down, take plenty of time to assess their animals, and get those forms from the foster family. I would try again to adopt from Heartland, but with greater caution.

There are not enough good things that can be said about this shelter or the amazing volunteŕs who man it. I think their cat program is my favorite. Can't adopt? No problem, Heartland has a foster pet program accept donations.

What a perfect place to select the perfect pet! We were wanting to get two cats, and came home with three. There was a large selection to choose from -- all healthy and with shiny soft hair. We were encouraged by the staff to hold any cat we chose, so as to know the personality. Each one was so friendly! Kudos to the Heartland staff for their kindness and expert care. The proof shows in how loving the cats are. I highly recommend Heartland Humane!

Heartland is a true gem. The staff are the most amazing, hardworking, compassionate people ever, and everything they do is for the benefit of animals all over the county. There truly is no better place to support, or adopt an animal.

I recently adopted a senior dog from here. Because she was a shy older dog, the staff wanted to be sure she went to the right home, so they made sure we came several times to visit. I actually really liked how thorough they were to be sure that my now dog was adopted to a dedicated and loving family. The staff there are doing heroic work, and the fact that they still ultimately care about the well-being of the animals is very impressive.

If you’re looking to go adopt a dog I will always put this shelter at the top of my list… they take so much care for these dogs they love them with every second they have with them. They dogs are well taken care of and even I have adopted from here and seen the care and it’s absolutely perfect. Heartland has a wonderful staff team!

My boyfriend and I brought our sweet hospice kitty (Lily) in to be euthanized yesterday. The staff there were amazing. We ended up going to the wrong location but the heartland folks were still willing to accept us. Once we arrived, we were promptly served so Lily didn't have be stressed. The technician and assistant were so gentle with Lily. They also proved to be efficient and soothing at the same time. They went above and beyond when Lily passed - we received an inked paw print and a clay mold that we could go home and fire. My boyfriend and I are so grateful for the efficiency and kindness they displayed. Losing our beloved cat was a lot easier thanks to the staff.

We adopted our little George in July and he is strong and healthy and I thought the prices were great considering the animals are altered and have their first shots. We used an office space to have the family visit with him during our visit, it would be nice to have a little room dedicated to visiting. I thought the staff was quick and tried to be accommodating during a very very busy time.

We adopted our Rocket cat here about a year ago. He was around 4 months when we got him. When we adopt again someday we will absolutely do it here. They took great care of Rocket before we adpoted him, he loves people and other cats, and is all around a perfect addition for our family.
