Great local hdwre store. Their prices are high but service is great and the convenience factor is handy when you just need that one thing to complete the project you are working on. They are a welcome and necessary part of our little town.

Amazing people who are knowledgeable and friendly. The employee 's are very helpful. The prices are much lower than anywhere else in the Willamette valley. Thank you Carlson's. We could have not been able to avoid the renovation's of our shop.

It's great for service and convenience, but the last few years the prices keep going up, to the point it's no longer my first choice for many things. I've shipped there for almost 40 years, don't mind paying a but more at a small local store, but it's gotten ridiculous Went there today to pick up a 1 pound propane cylinder, $3 at Bimart, $6.59 at Carlson's, no thanks.

I had called prior to coming in to the store to see if they would thread a couple dozen pieces of pipe that had already been purchased elsewhere. I called prior because this is uncommon and wasn't sure if they would be interested in that business. The young man that I had spoke to on the phone was HAPPY to help, gave me quote, and told me to come on in.I went to the store and stood at the counter waiting to be acknowledged and checked out for about 15 minutes. I was extremely patient and watched people enter the store AFTER me, and they were greeted friendly. I looked around to see if I just blended in to the background, but no, they looked at me and then the other gentleman and told him he was next. I said something about it, and the older gal told me she didn't see me, mind you I was standing 4 feet in front of her for 15 minutes. The woman was visibly upset that I bothered to stay something about not being acknowledged, so I asked for the young man I spoke to on the phone with a quick description of what I was looking for. She laughed and said that they won't do that for me. I explained I had called ahead and got the ok, but she then described that the young man that answered the phone was challenged and shouldn't be answering phone calls. That he NEVER answers the phone. (keep in mind I have spoken with the kid on the phone on more than one occasion, and has been the ONLY person to answer the phone when I call.) She placed blame and shame to this hard working young man and was extremely rude.I asked to speak with the young man to let him know he was appreciated either way, but instead some older guy came out and was even ruder than the woman. I asked him a couple of questions, and my mid sentence he just walked away! I said, "Excuse me sir", his response, "SCOFF, you can figure it out."After describing this encounter to another local business in Browsnville, we were warned that Carlson's Hardware had continually rang them up for more money than the marked price of the purchase. They reviewed their receipts after years of support and found that this was a common mishap. City Council was contacted. We just went in today for supplies and thought we'd verify that they weren't over charging and it turns out they DID IT AGAIN! They attempted to deny the "mistake", and we had to physically show them the numbers don't add up like that. After arguing us to be wrong they finally said, oh you know what, you're right. Funny how it never happens to be less, and is ALWAYS more.Time for an audit.

Want that personal small town experience? This is the place, right down to the squeaky worn wooden floor you remember from years gone by before the big box stores caused so many small town hardware stores to go away. My father and mother have done business with Carlson's since they were first married, more than 75 years ago. The stories my father, who is now gone, used to tell about his experiences with Carl Carlson, would bring tears to our eyes. Today, my disabled brother relies on their friendly and accomodating help to complete any number of projects he might have in the air at any one time. Step back in time with a visit to this business in historic Brownsville, Oregon.

They have been over charging people for years. They add your total on a calculator and fat finger the buttons almost every time. Still haven't found a receipt that was less than the amount. Only more.
