A visit to this Safeway is a guaranteed disappointment. There is nothing good about this store. Even the staff have told me they can’t afford to shop here and they shop elsewhere. Avoid this Safeway and save time, money, and be happier.Every single time I visit here, I’m forced to use the self check out due to staffing shortages. If busy these lines suck and can wind down multiple isles with people aggressively cutting or feigning knowledge of how a line simply works. Without fail, some price will ring up incorrectly and I have to ask for a price adjustment which is corrected without question or verification - I guess we can all feel free to test this and verbally make up prices to be corrected by the staff?The price tags are only and always misleading or wrong. Want a bag of chips? At a given price? You’ll have to buy four or five bags to get that price. Or you’ll have to buy four or five bags AND use your phone with a digital coupon. Or you'll have to come on a different day - I’ve seen a price on something that was not valid when I was standing in front of it, but for later on in the week. Oh sweet, I didn’t come here to buy sour cream today, just to check how much it will cost in three days.The layout of this, and all Safeways, is intended to keep you INSIDE the store by hiding stuff and creating a maze that forces you to spend more time in and buy more impulsive type items because you are TRYING to get what you came for. The best part of this is that it works and shoppers are generally and understandably more confused when wandering around TRYING to locate what used to be where it was last time, or where it should be.Remember that young lady that was assaulted by those winners from Long Beach? Here. I’ve seen fights in the parking lot, I've seen daytime public defecation and urination in the parking lot, I've seen drones hovering over the parking lot for whatever weird reason, I've seen homeless parties inside and outside of the doors and in the parking lot.I understand that prices in this county are higher than in the city, but this place is outrageous. Astoria Safeway advertises items as on sale, with the sale price being four times higher than the next Safeway to the east, and even that Safeway is pricier than all other grocers.I also understand staffing is a challenge, I’m not even going to specify why this Safeway staff is so bad, just come here and see for yourself. The only reason people come here is because they can’t or don’t want to go elsewhere, meaning across the bridge or to the next town.This Safeway has been this bad for at least a decade and I truly hope it closes, so avoid it. Or if you’re reckless, come here and just loot the hell out of it lol.

This Safeway location has been going downhill rather quickly. They close their bottle room (illegal) and deli at random, depending who is working as manager on a given day. They keep and sell expired products well after expiration. Very high turnaround with their employees, which isn’t out of the norm, but makes for constant confusion amongst their staff. Another nitpick would be their deli sandwiches, which used to be a decent quality/value, now get approximately half the meat on them but they don’t increased the price from $1-1.50.. kind of a joke. And to top it off, I recently got a food-borne illness from a signature select Caesar salad. Really annoyed how hard it is to find a fair place to shop these days. Most employees here will bad mouth the company to your face.

Our Sea Scouts spent a weekend in Astoria and we ordered two, different meals from Safeway. One was buckets and buckets of chicken with two sides. The other meal was sandwiches which we ate at the boat pond at the Columbia River Maritime Museum. OH!!!! Almost forgot the doughnuts! Thank you

Great sandwiches from the deli, awesome selection of cheeses and a whole aisle devoted to just about every flavor of chip you could hope for. They have a great selection of stuff and have sales on items you wouldn't expect too, I got a $50 bottle of wine for $20.Staff are helpful and friendly too.

Chris in grocery pick up was very kind and a big help today. He pointed out that I forgot to close my gas cap. He offered to close it for me even. Thought that was a nice gesture!

Had a worker follow me around the store In my personal bubble trying to accuse me of stealing something the second I walked in the door . I continued to shop and she would not leave me alone . Very un professional I really don't know what her problem was but I will not return i shouldn't be harassed by a worker of all people. Should be glad I didn't mase her. Would do zero stars if I could . Boo Safeway booooo

The shopping cart pick up in the entrance smells so bad Belize of the can recycle, you should really fix that. Second the fruit that I wanted to get was MOLDY.

It's a large Safeway that has everything you would expect (flowers, pharmacy, deli, soups, sandwichs, sushi, etc.), it also has a fuel station.

Stood in-front of the sandwich station for a good 20 minutes, and even tried waving a staff member down, but still got ignored while he continues to pack sushi into a styrofoam container. Probably wasn’t his station to tend to, but, he could’ve at least knowledge us. Just wanted a fresh sandwich for the drive home.

I always enjoy this store because it’s the most affordable and convenient place for groceries in the area including the fuel prices. Another reason is their clean, well stocked and organized shelves.

This is a well run store. The shelves were full of fresh items and the staff was helpful and friendly.They are located in a beautiful spot. The view is great!The parking lot was clean as well as the store. We stopped to use the restrooms and they were clean. When asking directions to the bathroom we were immediately responded to and given clear directions.We feel that we can give this place a 5 star review and recommend this place.

My family and I went to vacation in Seaside and stopped by Safeway in Astoria. It was a good experience minus the cost of everything. We grabbed some hot food at the deli. I got the shrimp, spring rolls and fried rice. I ate everything but the rice. The rice and the peas looked old and had black fragments in it like they hadn't cleaned the frying pan. I didn't feel comfortable eating most and dumped it.

Store seems clean, shelves are mostly full and faced, customers service can use work.Some of the workers seem like they are high as a kite and miserable in their job- management needs to do better here. Punishment is not the answer, start celebrating your team's accomplishments or appriciate their work, the feel of this store is gloomy.I mostly feel safe coming to this store, but there is some homeless that sits around the doors

Large parking lot for a busy store. Parking is near the train tracks and river walk. Nice place to get your pets out for a stroll when you are traveling. There is a Starbucks inside this store. Clean bathrooms too. Gas station is also in this parking lot.

Cashiers are very nice and helpful. To be honest anything you could say against them is related to inflation and has nothing to do with the individual location. The store is clean and well lit, just make sure you're prepared for a wait during that 5 o'clock rush when everyone gets off work.

Clean and organized, but still operating with minimal service crew. They really try to funnel people thru the no-service kiosks. There is usually 1 express and 1 standard checker open and sometimes the lines go back into the aisles. The deli service is friendly and the butcher is always glad to cut me thick steak. Just wish they'd open more check-outs.

I try really hard not to write bad reviews as someone that's worked in customer service for a long time but this experience left me frustrated. I've grown up going to this store for a very long time, just moved back to the area and have only been back a few times since then. The store is clean and usually has what I'm looking for at a decent price especially with the club card. My issue today was with my cashier. I try to be pleasant with cashiers and customer service workers in general because I know some people aren't. I said hi, smiled, let her know I had my bags with me, etc. She didn't say anything to me, just took my bags and gave them to the guy that bagged my groceries for me (thanks!) and then we sat there in literal silence while she finished. The only words she said to me were my total and then she handed me my receipt. I remember when Safeway used to say thank you for shopping with us *insert name here* and tell you how much you saved. I didn't expect a full conversation but I really didn't expect to stand there awkwardly and feel like I was bothering her by being there.

Nice Safeway in Astoria, right along the river with a nice view. Plenty of options for food, and well placed for quick bites as well as picking up regular groceries. Prices were as anticipated even being out and away from large city's quite reasonable. Sandwiches where fresh bathrooms were clean and well stocked obvious of proper maintenance and regular cleanings.

Not sure how they do it but definitely recommend pick up. You can order and pick up same day. I ordered at10 AM to pickup at 2. 12 o'clock got notification that my order was ready and I could pickup anytime.Now my only complaint is they subbed frozen veggies for the fresh ones I ordered. I allow substitution it really is okay. But frozen for fresh...They do a fantastic job other than that.

The daytime leadership is non existent, and the crew leaders have rude manners. I was once told i could wait and wouldn't chet a hand count after the machine repair man told them for me that he needed at least an hour, today i checked out one of only two registers going, this is the coast on a beautiful sunny Saturday do you people think you could hire someone. I watched two leads standing beside the lady at the u scan and they didn't call anyone or start checking or bagging nothing. Half of the employees are nice but when the people in charge don't care this is what it's like. It is fair to say a lot of the employees are great but there are a couple who refuse to punch in your club number, it takes 2 seconds and everyone is nice so i don't get it, this place needs restructure bad

Very friendly employees. Like I've said before I work for a remodel merchandising company and we go to Safeways and Albertsons. Even after this Safeway had a negative experience with one of our temps they still welcomed us and they were very nice. Smiles all night! I feel a strong family bond in this Safeway and I really hope the unsaid situation doesn't continue to bring anyone there down. These employees deserve lots of good vibes sent their way. Thank you for having us there last night. I had a lot of fun working side by side with you guys.

Safeway is a great chain, and the Astoria chain is a nice clean store. I would give it a 5 Star rating except they don't always have a checker to check large orders before noon. If you shop early and have a full cart you still go through the 10 items or less check stand or self-check. I do not like self-check and I feel bad going through the small orders checker making others wait for my big order. At least have one checker at all times for large orders!
