Our boy, Garry, wouldn’t be here today without Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists. On Tuesday night, our Great Dane developed bloat and subsequently a twisted stomach - which can be fatal if not treated quickly enough. We called our local vet and they told us that we needed to get them to OVS as soon as possible as they thought the same thing that we did. We had him in the door and they had done an x-ray right away and had confirmed our fears. Know that, when you come here, they are going to tell you how much it’s going to cost and it’s not cheap. It is an emergency vet. Anything that you have done on a routine basis is always less expensive. Within 30 minutes of walking in the door they had already taken Garry back and started sedation for his surgery. We had several staff members come out and update us while he was in surgery. They untwisted his stomach, and tacked it back down, so hopefully this won’t happen again. They kept him overnight, and he did well, and we got to take him home the next day. When we came to him the next day, they refunded us a significant amount of the money that we paid upfront, which was, not only impressive but also a blessing. Please remember when you read these reviews that an emergency vet is just that and it’s going to be significantly more expensive to take care of your baby because they are there at the times that your vet can’t be. We are so thankful for Oklahoma veterinary specialists.

Dr Nestor and his staff are amazing I’m so thankful for them. They helped us with our Great Pyrenees. They found answers and continue to be amazing, they have stayed in touch with me throughout everything and stay on top of our needs. I can’t say enough amazing things about how much they truly care.I won’t go anywhere else.I trust them they are here to help and they do a fantastic job. Thank you for always being amazing. My Great Pyrenees is doing great now ❤️

Dr. Jennifer Schultz and the entire staff at OVS provided wonderful care to not only our dog but us as owners as well. We were greeted immediately and our dog’s needs were urgently assessed. Our 5 year old frenchie experienced his first IVDD flare which ended up being a ruptured disc. Thankfully OVS was able to complete all the needed diagnostic testing (CT) and surgery same day. They throughly went over the plan from intake to discharge and Dr. Schultz reached out multiple times before and after surgery with her findings and updates. They welcomed calls and visits checking in at anytime and not once seemed “bothered”. I am thankful that our vet referred us to OVS and our Watson is back up on all 4!

My dog tore his ACL and had to have surgery and I was so stressed! They ended up having a cancellation and he was able to get in for his surgery within 4 days of the tear. His surgeon was Dr. Duell and he was amazing!! I will definitely be recommending Dr. Duell and his team to friends and family - they made sure to explain the surgery to me and walk me through everything before they took him back for surgery and called to let me know when he was being prepped and when he was out of surgery. I also called before bed and in the morning for updates on how he was doing and they were happy to let me know!

I cannot say enough good things about OVS. Dr. Schultz took the time to explain my dog's condition in detail, as well as my treatment options and was infinitely patient with my many questions on more than one visit. It was a scary time and it was so comforting not to ever feel rushed or brushed off. I definitely felt that my dog was cared about and well cared for by everyone from those who greeted us at the front desk to every staff member we encountered after that. The surgery nurses/techs were very responsive as well when I called with a concern. I'm so grateful my regular vet referred me to them so I know I always have an excellent team to care for my dogs in case of emergency.

This visit to OVS was AWFUL and like no other visit there in the past. The doctor Colin Bell DVM was rude and condescending and dismissive. Our dog Oliver had nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea (too many episodes to count). The doctor made it feel like we were there for no reason. Our dog couldn't even keep water down and was projectile vomiting all over our house (and even at the vet). If he were a human, he would've been given fluids and nausea medicine. The vet was like "so, you want to leave and watch him at home, or do you want a full workup?" I wanted him to do his effing job and evaluate the patient and treat him. It's not too much to ask. So we had to request fluids and nausea medicine ourselves, and he then received them. Then Oliver felt better and we brought him home. The doctor never even reviewed the lab work with us or told us what his examination found. We are medical ourselves (a medical doctor and a registered nurse), and know what to expect from our medical colleagues and this man fell quite short of any reasonable expectation.Usually our OVS visits are great, with caring, compassionate, professional doctors and staff. This time, Dr Bell was a huge, frustrating disappointment. Hopefully just having a bad day, and this isn't his routine. The staff was wonderful yesterday, as always.

Read the previous reviews. I requested documented statistics and administered help given to my 3 year old cat because she was brought in for severe lethargy. After asking what I consider normal questions as to what I paid thousands for, I was labeled as “combative”. I read that her “respiration” was fluctuating but was then later told that those were different apart from oxygen rate percentage with no further explanation. I received undermining tones as to why I was even asking vital questions in the first place. I requested proof of scans, vaccinations, and administered medical help my cat received. I was mocked when I asked if the phone call was recorded. I was told this process did not work like human process and that I was a human and my cat was “just a cat” and part of her administered help were not “documented”. After pure shock of that statement I tried to hang up but I was told I can come get my cat at my own expense not knowing what was done or what conditions she is left in. With the amount of money that was paid I will be seeking help and second opinions as to why there is no proof for what I paid for and possibly the condition my loved one is left in or if it is even safe to keep her in my care with no further professional help going forward. Today I was made to feel like my animal that has been by my side for years and that I have cared for and raised was “just a cat” per the “doctors” verbiage and that she is anything other than a fur baby family member. I’m petrified given circumstance and the risk I took bringing my my once healthy and delightful YOUNG cat to this clinic.Drive the extra few miles… The last honest, respectful, caring, veterinary clinic is down the street. I’m about to pick up my lifeless cat after trusting leaving her with this clinic. My heart is in shambles and after reading the reviews. I personally don’t think proper HONEST veterinary practice is at hand. I will not be the only client picking up a loved one with no answers and possible inevitable doom.

Awhile back my son’s feline buddy fell gravely ill. His wife (7 mo pregnant) ended up at ovs. I met her there, as she wasn’t sure she had enough to cover the cost of treatment. We were in a waiting area while Bub was attended to. After some time, a young lady came in and explained that Bub wasn’t going to make it, had massive cancer throughout his body, and in fact, a vet tech was keeping him alive with heart massage so we could say goodbye. “How thoughtful” was my initial thought. We said our goodbyes and were ushered out of the area, and to the front desk for billing. It was at this time I discovered I was charged around $175 ( don’t remember the exact amount) to euthanize Bub, who was being kept “alive” via heart massage. He had already died twice apparently. I’m wondering why was the $175 shot necessary. Humane thing to do was the response. Made no sense. I paid it of course. I was very fond of Bub as well, so was somewhat distraught, and fought down the urge to argue the point. They’re all about a smooth sale. I’m sure some are caring considerate animal lovers. The business as a whole is just about extracting as much cash as necessary. My two pennies

Was referred here recently because our regular vet heard a heart murmur. Very pleased with the kindness shown by all employees I encountered. Thankful there are specialists for our furry family members.

Dr. Duell did an amazing job on removing Buddy’s tumor mass from his arm. No other local vet would agree to take this on based on Buddy’s age. We were ecstatic that Buddy’s procedure went well and everyone there was so pleasant and caring about the situation. We live almost 2 hours away but well worth the travel for our Buddy boy.

I have to commend OVS for providing our pets with the same level of care we give to people. This hospital saved my dog Mia’s life. I am so grateful for all of the staff I met while my dog was treated, but I have to give a shout-out to Dr. Chris Johnson for figuring out that our money would be best spent on a feeding tube rather than an ultrasound. This seemed to turn things around rather miraculously. I also very much appreciated the way Dr. Johnson explained his reasoning, as though he respected me as someone who can comprehend the detailed medical information. I understand that this hospital isn’t necessarily affordable, however I also understand that it takes a lot of money to keep a place like this running. Each dog I saw had a nice plush blanket, regardless of whether their conditions might stain them. They keep their ICU patients hooked up to monitors they can watch. Everything was very clean. The care our pets receive here is impeccable. The staff at this facility showed more respect for animals than any other veterinary facility I’ve been to. Thank you for running a legitimate hospital for our furry babies!

I had an emergency with my dog on a Sunday and brought her in for emergency treatment. The staff were very prompt and accommodating while my dog was being seen and receiving treatment. Sadly, it was subsequently determined that treatment was not going to work and that my poor girl would have to be euthanized. Of course this was beyond devastating to me, but the staff and the treating veterinarian were so very kind to me and actually cared what I was going through and for my poor little friend. While not a positive thing to have to deal with, this facility and those who work there have my gratitude for possessing and showing empathy when I was ugly crying and could hardly think/speak. Thank you for having 24 hour care available because I could not have endured my little buddy suffering as she would have if I’d have had to wait for regular vet clinic hours.

Spent over a thousand dollars for a "treatment plan" which was a quick exam for our dog who had crazy liver values at our vet and was sent there for an emergency. They sent me home with standard antibiotics. She didn't have an infection. She went downhill fast and we lost her. I can't tell you what an overpriced total sham this place is. They should all be ashamed. It's all about how much money they can suck out of you. Disgusting.

Took my dog in for a leg injury. On top of sitting there for 7 hours waiting they misdiagnosed him with a dislocated elbow and just put a bandage on it and "put it back in place" 2 days later its still not looking good and i take him to another vet to get him checked again and maybe get a splint instead. My vet looked at the xray and immediately knew it was broken and it was pretty obvious. So i was charged over 800 dollars and my puppy had an untreated broken leg for 2 days. Will not be returning and I strongly suggest going somewhere else. The best thing they did was recommend me to the veterinarian in catoosa who got me in and out the door in 20 minutes and fixed my dogs leg for a fair price.

I’ve had to take a dog here two separate times when their normal vet was closed and both times had good experiences. Are they pricey? Sure. But so is your ER trip if something happens to you that’s an emergency. I’ve never had an employee talk down to me or treat me bad and even had the overnight vet call me both times give me updates on how my pup was doing. The first time when my dogs were puppies one of them contracted a bad bad case of hook worms. Overnight stay, blood transfusion, and all the test and such were a little over a grand. Had I waited an extra day to take her back to her normal vet she’d have been dead so well worth it.The second time (same dog) she was lethargic and wouldn’t eat. Wouldn’t move. Wouldn’t even eat a hotdog (so I knew it was serious)! Again, the weekend, so I brought her here. Stayed over night, a ton of tests that found nothing, and got sent home with some tick-born disease meds and some steroids because it was the closest thing that fit the symptoms. Again, a little over a grand. Second dog started acting the same way a few days later and she went to the vet we usually go to and they ran all the tests and did the same thing; tick-born disease meds and steroids because it was the closest thing that fit after the tests showed nothing. Both dogs are fine. Was my local vet half the price? Yep. Was my local vet available on Sunday? Nope. I probably wouldn’t pay their prices for them to be my dogs full time vet but when your animal needs help NOW the prices aren’t that bad.

A few months ago I noticed the whites of my dogs eyes were red (both of them) so I assumed allergies. A few weeks later I came home from work and noticed my dog had bright red blood pooling in his left eyeball so we rushed him to the ER. We were sent home and told to follow up with Dr. Puckett. A week later when we followed up with Dr. Puckett we were told that his retina was fully detached and he wouldn’t be able to see out of that eye again. They said the bleeding in his eye was due to trauma (highly unlikely because he’s a big, lazy, inside dog and is not rambunctious). They told me it was possible leash strangulation and I told them over and over that there was no way. We had to have the eye removed. We also noticed our dog was losing weight significantly. After the eye removal I asked multiple times if they were worried about the other eye. They told me that there was no problem with the other eye and they didn’t need to see him again because his eye issue was resolved. However, a few weeks after that the right eye started bleeding just the same. They said it had no correlation to his weight loss (30lbs in 3 months) and denied it was anything systemic. We finally were able to see Dr. Pratt in internal medicine and they ran a few tests but did not seem too interested, it all seemed very cold. He was just another number to them. Thankfully we have a vet at home who fought for him. She called them multiple times asking for help, her calls weren’t returned. By the time she found his cancer on her own, it was too late.

Came in for some antibiotics and wound care for our puppy. Was told we would receive antibiotics, but did not. Wound became infected so we ended up having to take her into our vet to get recleaned and taken care of with antibiotics. When I called to ask for some assistance with the bill, because it was a wasted trip and costing us dbl now. They said it was standard protocol to send home antibiotics for preventive care and would return my call. Now they are saying antibiotics were not required and since we were not charged for them we would not receive any assistance with the bill. Im disappointed we wasted time and money.

Dr. Puckett and his staff are phenomenal. They got my English bulldogs eyes all fixed up. The stitches looked amazing and healed even better. Great bedside manner and provided every bit of information I could have needed. 100% worth the price. Will recommend. (And they made him a custom cone)

Dr. Schultz performed a TPLO surgery on our 8 year old hound mix Tasha. Prior to the surgery she would hardly put any weight on her leg with a torn ACL, and within 2 weeks after surgery she was walking without a limp. Now after 5 weeks she is acting like nothing ever happened. We have to remind her to take it easy. The surgery literally changed her life and I am so grateful to Dr. Schultz. Thank you!

I drove 2 hours each way for a consultation after referrals from my primary vet for my 1 year old boxer puppy. I was discharged without the after visit summary and care instructions. Upon receiving them it was noted to contact if there was any concern. Pepper was continuing to vomit and I emailed, called and left messages. I have yet to hear from the doctor’s assistant. Each time I call and talk to reception they tell me to leave a message or call my primary vet. They do not have any urgency to get back to you regarding your concerns. The lack of follow up is unacceptable. I do not recommend going here. Find another specialist

Have had 2 terrible experiences here. Calling to let them know my dog had passed and trying to get help with cremation. The lady on the phone said one sec and then put us on hold. 5 minutes later a different lady picked up the phone and said if our dog had an emergency to bring them in for $120. We informed her that our dog had passed and she got an ATTITUDE with us. Are you serious??? We are grieving and you are going to give us an attitude when we tell you our dog has passed. 2nd experience was when our dogs back legs stopped working. Was on the phone CRYING and all the lady had to say was "you can bring her in if you want itll be $120" in a tone that just sounded like she did not care or want to be talking to me.These people need much better training on how to talk to people on the phone. Especially when going through something as hard as a pet passing.

Spent 700 for blood work with no answers, everything mentioned was brushed off in lieu of more charges. They are not an institution based off helping your animal. They are a money making business. My poor dog 💔

I love this clinic. They are always so kind & loving to your pet, & to me. They are very considerate to every situation. The prices are better than your regular veterinarian clinics. They were so kind to me yesterday when I had to put my little 18yr old fur baby down. I definitely recommend this clinic to everyone. Thank you Oklahoma Veterinarian Specialist.

I cannot recommend Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists enough. After a month of trying to figure out why my puppy, Hercules, was so sick and wouldn't eat, I finally got a recommendation to Dr. Pratt. After only a couple hours they figured out his problem and scheduled his surgery right away and got it done within the same day. He had a slipping Intussusception, so they had to remove part of his intestines.Everyone was so incredibly kind, and took great care of my baby. They always made sure we knew we could always call to check-in on him and ask questions. They regularly called with updates on how he was doing, as well.He is doing great now, and has all the puppy energy back thanks to them! He is back to his normal weight and is feeling like a new pup!

Took our baby 6 month old fluffy Frenchie to ER for more internal exams . The dr seemed cold and not wanting to be there during normal hrs ,spent 6 hrs there for tests and ultrasound. They shaved him without telling us . Spent a $1000 .for inconclusive Test tesults then said the colonoscopy for 2500 more. .!! No way took him back to our normal vet and they fixed him with better meds !

They refused to treat my dog for a TBI without full payment. Their finance options are a joke and take too long to complete. He would still be alive if they would have done something right when we got there. They are only about the money and don't care about your family

Truly are compassionate, caring and kind they saved my dog's life after a very tragic dog attack. And we've had to go back a few times just for follow-up care and unforeseen circumstances in regards to the injuries, and they have been nothing but kind caring and compassionate the entire time. You can tell that they are truly there for you and their animals if you have an emergency with your pet OVS is the place to take your babies is the right place for your babies

Recommended 100%. I will never be able to express the amount of love and appreciation I have for the doctors and staff at OVS. Our 11 mth bloodhound, Jake, was rushed to their facility for a severe life threatening infection in his lungs (9/13) which would require surgery to scrape out the infection in his lungs (pyothorax). We were devastated to say the least and euthanizing him was an unthinkable option for us. The doctors called several times before the diagnosis, after the diagnosis, and immediately after surgery to provide very thorough updates. They took the time to answer my lengthy questions without ever feeling rushed to get off the phone. They also continue to call throughout his post-op. They loved on our baby and even went beyond measure to provide comfort to him post surgery. The nurses even got a couple of air mattresses and laid blankets out to help him relax and sleep after his surgery.OVS, I will never be able to appropriately express how thankful we are for you and your expertise but I can promise you we will never forget your kindness, love and compassion you showed our little Jake. It is obviously clear your staff clearly cares about our babies. We can't wait to see our little man in a week but knowing he's in good hands gives us comfort. Thank you!!!!* Update - 2 years later: our boy is now three years old and has mom and dad wrapped around his paws. We are still so thankful for OVS and their compassion shown to us during this difficult time. He’s doing great and is being a normal bloodhound. Thank you all! - Brandy, John and Jake* Update - 3 years later: Jake is 4 and is doing exceptionally well. He’s the middle child and torments his brother and sister on the daily. Thank you for giving us these treasured memories!!!

Honest and caring Veterinary doctors and staff. My vet recommended OVS for stage II mast cell tumor removal for my senior pup and this hospital was amazing with her. The hospital is so nice and so are the people who work there. After my furkids surgery she was sent home with meds and a pain patch. On day 2 she chewed too hard on her Kong toy I gave her (probably because she couldn't feel how hard she was chewing) causing her face swell up (see the pic with her in a cone) and I was so worried and upset thinking it was a reaction from her surgery. After calling OVS in a panic they assured us she would be fine and if the swelling didn't go away to see our regular vet the next day. It did go away and she ended up being fine.Last Sunday in the middle of the night I had another emergency where I thought she had a UTI and was trying to wait to take her in to her vet on Monday. After things got worse during the night I took her in to OVS and they got her in quick. They were able to diagnose her with bladder stones and was able to help her for the night and instructed me to get her into her regular vet the next day. The doctor didn't rush me and answered all my questions.I see many complaints about their pricing but they've seemed really fair and honest in my opinion. I definitely recommend them for emergencies and specialized services.

We recently took our cat in the middle of the night because he had an oozing wound near his tail that seemingly came out of nowhere. Everyone there was kind and helpful. Dr. Skinner determined he had an abscess that had ruptured. She gave him antibiotics and pain medicine and cleaned up the wound. She then gave us the instructions for caring for the wound, and after answering our questions, we took our cat home. In just a couple of days, the wound is already looking better, and we are so thankful for the help and care provided.
