Very easy shelter to work with. They communicate well and answer any questions. They also give as much info as they can and try their best to get animals home whether a stray hold or adoption. Altus also ensures your pet to be spayed or neutered and that is included in the adoption fee. That service is so necessary now days. Spay and neuter your pets please! If you're looking for a new best friend, come help one at the Altus Animal Shelter! Thank you all for your hardwork!!

We adopted our baby Drax (Streeter) from them 3 yrs. Ago and he is the absolute most amazingly spoiled, unlike any, unique, baby we have ever met!!!! You can tell he is so happy and thankful to have us and 2 older sisters to love and we are so thankful he came into our lives! This facility has the absolute best people working here that actually care about their animals and the homes the go to!!!! Props to them!!!!!

There are some stray cats occasionally in my neighborhood at different times throughout the year. Some parts of town are worse than others I'm told. They fight at 2am when they are in heat and sometimes use my backyard as a littler box. Some neighbors leave food out I guess or the cats scrounge the open dumpsters but all that does is keep them around my house. And the strays produce more kittens that will not have a home. It's a shame irresponsible people let their cats go when they move or they don't spay or neuter their own pets only to produce more strays. It's never ending unfortunately and the animals suffer. I'm thankful there is a shelter here in Altus. I'm sure it's a no kill shelter. But even if it was not a no-kill shelter, what other alternatives are there for the unwanted pet population? People would need to volunteer instead of complain. Irresponsible people are the cause of all this. I trap the cats that come into my backyard and I bring them to this shelter. They are not open on weekends but I work with that. They do the best they can with the available funding. If you care about this subject, donate needed bags of cat and dog food, treats and bedding. Bringing strays here is the most humane thing to do vs letting them scrounge for food, no shelter from the cold, or possibly getting hit by vehicles. People, be responsible pet owners.

i absolutely love the place. they take care of their animals and it’s obvious that they treat them well. very happy it’s a no kill shelter, as it isn’t fair for the animals. very few animals are aggressive, and the ones that are should probably be trained by a worker there. it’s honestly a hit and miss at all shelters though, the dog i got from here just yesterday is perfect. he’s potty trained, not food aggressive, good with kids, knows his name, and is just everything you’d need in a dog.

A great place to volunteer! If you're ever bored, they could always use help giving the dogs baths, and they always want some loving. Its also a great way to get to know some of the dogs ahead of time if you're wanting to adopt.

It's okay but I haven't been in a long time because they absolutely don't care about the animals and they get kids to do it instead of them doing it and I know it's a kill shelter and they really don't care about the animals it's all just a big hoax

They take such good care of thr animals. This is my second dog getting from them. We love our first one so much we had to come back for anothet.but I love how compassionate they are with the animals and the animals are well taken care of.

Appears to take good care of animals, but needs sound buffering and some volunteers to help with cleaning and grooming the animals to make them more appealing. They could probably adopt out more animals if they could find a way to stay open over weekends when it's easier for more people to visit. I didn't see any outdoor exercise pens, but I didn't circle around looking for them.

I called and told them 4 abandoned animals were at my rent house and they may starve and the female telephone lady didn't care.Tried to give legal advice more than the animals lives 1 star.

It’s a shame you guys aren’t open everyday. Stray animals don’t only become a threat to the community Monday through Friday and every third Saturday of the month. There’s a stray dog walking around and can’t even call about it because you guys are closed. This dog has been reported before and I was told the only thing they saw was done was you all give the dog water . Why is it still here in the community where kids come out to play when it was reported and nothing was done !!!

My g-ma had a stray dog show up n her yard, took it 2 the altus shelter. They were so friendly & seemed 2 really care 4 the animals!! Was very impressed.

Nice and clean. The inside has been repainted and has some very nice animal paintings on the walls. The personnel was exceptional by being friendly and helpful.
