It's not a bad facilty for what it is. Compassionate and caring staff, however, the mere existence of a "dog warden" is government over reach, and the entire office in principle should be abolished. There doesn't need to be regulations on the ownership of livestock of any kind.

I stopped in to see if they might have any Yorkie puppies for adoption they did not so I ask them if I could leave a name incase they got one in the future and they said yes they were very nice and very helpful and friendly

HORRIBLE! My dog got out and they caught him in the same 1 hour he got out..but failed to call me that same night and called in the morning. Not even 24 hours there and my dog has kennel cough. Ridiculous, clean ur damn facility or call me as soon as he gets there..

The Mahoning County Dog pound ALWAYS has roughly 70-80 dogs in their care. That is absolutely INSANE. I understand that their reasoning for not being open to the public is because they don’t want to stress the dogs out. Okay - what do you think having 70-80 barking dogs at any given time is doing? Spreading all of the attention you are giving to these dogs so thin. You are doing these dogs zero justice. You should be willing to take ANY and ALL of advice you receive at this point. The narrative is getting old especially when you are doing NOTHING to remedy the situation. Open the doors to the public. Host adoption events. Create a foster program within your own facility instead of relying on surrounding rescue groups. DO SOMETHING. You are failing these dogs and you are failing the community. The public is resorting to dumping/abandoning their dogs because there isn’t an option to humanely and responsibly surrender their animals. Do better.

They’re communication is horrible. They have owners coming in claiming to be the owners and instead of listening and checking facts they dismiss the owners and claim it’s not the same dog. Why would people lie and still get the police involved usually it’s the other way around. Please stop lying about dogs and give them back. Also heard they kill dogs a man came up looking for his dogs and they had already killed then try to claim that “they passed away” how did ALL six pass away?. Then after that claimed if someone else doesn’t come to claim the dog they can have her back in Thursday. So we’ll wait for other people to come get the dog but not the owners? TERRIBLE BUSINESS, CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND COMMUNICATION. Would NOT recommend.

I was approved for a dog I had my heart set on 5 days ago, and at that point we scheduled an appointment to meet her today, 5 days after my approval.I was confirming our appointment yesterday via email after zero communication on their end, and I was getting frustrated being left in the dark.They didn’t answer any questions through Facebook messages (though they read them), or via email.I was called after sending an email yesterday, stating I was coming at our appointment time today (keep in mind, this is nearly a 2 hour trip one way for me), and was told not to come. I called off work a week ago for this appointment, to be told (AFTER BEING EVALUATED AND APPROVED) that I was an “unfit home”, being a single female with 2 other friendly dogs in the home.I was told on the phone by the warden, on the day and time of my meet and greet, that I was “aggressive for asking too many questions regarding the dog”... apparently people, asking if the dog is vaccinated, safe with other animals, and spayed, is asking “too many questions”!Absolutely unprofessional, incredibly rude, and condescending for absolutely no reason. I still can’t believe, hours later, that this transpired as a person trying to give a RESCUE dog a loving home.These people do not care about animals... my dogs have the best life, yet to top it off, this place has zero customer service skills whatsoever for their “customers”; you know, the people keeping them in business, and giving their rescues loving homes!Thinks twice before going here if you don’t want your heart broken for no good reason.Good luck!

Have a dog that belonged to my deceased son & cannot keep it & called to see if they could come pick him up & they told me they dont have any room for him. So this is why there are so many stray dogs running around youngstown. I wont do that to my sons dog he is a good dog & I hated that I even made the call to the dog warden. Its just sad that when you call for help you get results like this

Mahoning County Dog Warden can be difficult to work with and getting certain things done in a timely manner however the staff was nice when I needed their help and what courteous to my needs. I thank him for the work that they do in the community however I do believe that when people are caring for pets and want to reinforce laws that are concerning pets and their owners, they should understand both sides of the story rather than creating The Logical method in which they think is right. Overall I applied the people for the job that they do oh, but it would not be something I would encourage anyone to do.

Their answer to "I can't keep this dog around my baby because he's too anxious and it makes me nervous about an accident" is "have him put down." Makes sense for a kill shelter.

Very clean friendly people please if you're thinking of a new pet adopt adopt adopt. I went here with my daughter who was looking to adopt she found this average sized dog. He had been adopted once and brought back he was not given a fair chance. After a bath he has the most beautiful coat and is the most loving patient dog he will be spoiled rotten. I believe this is a kill shelter so please check them out.

Amazing staff. Sarah and everyone I met have been wonderful. They have a heart for these dogs. Seemed more like a rescue to me than a pound. If you're looking to adopt-- please consider checking them out.

They called me that they had my dog and I went to go pick him up. The lady wasn't nice like she was in a bad mood. The other lady at the desk was arguing with someone on the phone. She hung up the phone and immediately started to talk bad about her to other coworkers in front of me. I appreciate the service they do, but they need to work on controlling their emotions.
