Had an impromptu birthday get together today. The owner and waiter were great! Great atmosphere, and awesome wine selection. We also sampled the menu, and we all agreed it was great! Took wine home for later, along with a couple of Shade Winery glasses! We will be back!

I must say that Shade Winery is a hidden gem tucked away in the beautiful hills of Ohio. Shade winery is a great place for a relaxing afternoon. We ordered the NY strip and scallops. Both were excellent, the chef rivals any in Columbus. Our waiter was attentive without be obtrusive. I highly recommend Shade Winery.

Nice, organized and beautiful winery I have seen till now,,, foods are good and surrounding environment will blow your mind. we went there at the afternoon and place was totally full with customers. I have seen row of grapes first time ever. Visiting there was a good experience I think.

A truly special gem in southeast Ohio. Lovely atmosphere with a tasting room, indoor dining, outdoor covered and outdoor uncovers dining. You can buy wine by the glass, bottle, or case, and a delicious spot for dinner as well.

Today we had an absolutely amazing dish with great wines. The stuffed quails prepared by Chef M. Snow were just perfect! Flavors perfectly balanced. The menu has also just changed with new fares we are dying now to try. If you are visiting Athens, this restaurant and winery is a Must visit!

Nice atmosphere. Menu was vastly different from what was on their website. Apparently, the website hasn’t been updated for a while. Food was good. They had a strange procedure where the food and beverage orders were taken separately and served by different people. You then received a different bill from each server. It wasn’t a big hassle, just kind of strange.

Who doesn't love a family owned business?! The owners are the sweetest & their wines are amazing! Plus, they know their stuff. Food is also amazing, as is the view. 10/10 would recommend

Overall great place, love to visit when in town. Great sceneries and wine selection, love the tannins of the cab Sauvignon, and a good cab franc Restaurant has fantastic food and non-alcoholic drinks like ice tea and soda. Service can take a bit when super busy, but it's worth the wait.

Food, service, and atmosphere are always world class at this restaurant. Definitely a local favorite and a hidden gem! Best experienced when the weather is nice as most seating is outside or in high ceiling shelter house type building. Still great!!

Where to even start? We had a 5:30pm reservation, and we were there promptly at 5:30. (You can’t even get a table without a reservation) Upon arrival we were greeted by a very aggressive woman (owner) she seemed snappy and short tempered, demanding the name that the reservation was under. We were seated quickly and ordered drinks. If you like beer, you will be given a can of beer and a warm glass for $5. We were sitting there eating our meal and in the middle of a very serious conversation when the owner (the older gentleman) walks up and says, Hi ladies, I hate to ask you this but…would you mind moving over to the bar? We have an 11 top that we would like to accommodate. Thank you for your understanding blah, blah, blah. We were a little taken back. What’s the point of having a reservation if they’re going to bump you so that they can accommodate 11 people that didn’t have a reservation? They offered to help us move over and took our plates, and our purses to the bar. We were crammed in at the bar, elbow to elbow and by this point, we just asked for our check and promptly left.The least they could have done was comp our meals since they didn’t even let us enjoy our food before we were so rudely pushed over and out.

The place is very nice ,owner and staff also good . Have not been here for a few years .But ordered a appetizers of calamari and it was sliced way to thin and over breaded and at a cost of $20 THE PORTION WAS MINISCULE. So kept us from ordering dinner , Also the wine glass was large but the portion in that glass was "is the glass half empty or half filled " Sadly not one of our better experience

Horrible experience! I reserved a table one week in advance for my wife and I. It was our first time at shade and by looking at reviews and the prices of things we expected a higher end experience. Pulling up the long drive was nice, with the wine yard just off to the side. Parking is a little clustered. We entered to a cold hostess’s area greeted by, I would say, a stressed/frantic owner who told us it would be 10-15 min and then left. This was after we told her we had a reservation for 6pm and it was 5:50pm at the time. A few more people came in after us who all said they also had reservations for 6. No one came out to tell us what was going on for a good 13 minutes. At 6:03 the hostess took us to the newer built patio seating area and said we could wait there, but It would be another 15 minutes before they’d have a table for us. This honestly wouldn’t have bothered us if they would have at least asked if we wanted to start a tab and get a glass of wine while we waited. It was so awkward and off putting. We decided to leave at that point. Maybe we set out expectations too high, but what’s the point of making a reservation if I’m still sitting there waiting another 15 or so minutes? I expect that at Texas Roadhouse. I didn’t expect that here. This experience ruined what we had hoped to become a regular thing.

Uncomfortable, expensive, and demeaning- our experience. Please read more before planning your evening at this establishment. ((I am writing my review as a once pleased, returning customer.))My experience with Shade was quite pleasant the first time; I went in the summer and sat outside. I now know this was due to kind staff employed here-- if outside you will only deal with them, and make note they are great.I recently planned a 9 person birthday celebration, but when I called to make reservations the immediate interaction was strange as I was questioned on why I was coming with 9 people. (I let this go).The indoor section is small and our table was ready. When we arrived it wasn't busy and we ordered food and flights-- all was well. About an half hour in, it started getting busier and we were really enjoying our time -- a group that rarely has time to get together so it was pretty special.As time passed we noticed the owner/owners wife staring at us and listening to us. Eventually, the male owner came over, scolded us and asked if we'd like to "move outside (35 degree weather) because he couldn't even hear the bar order." Then, he stormed away. If we were being too loud, it would not have been a problem to ask nicely -- we understand the place is small, but I do not believe we were being outrageous.In an hour and 45 minutes we were offered 1 drink, as adult women we were publicly scolded, then we waited awkwardly whispering for over 25 minutes on the bill.We still spent quite a bit as a group and the whole experience was pretty terrible other than the initial greeting. Ultimately, they wanted our tables for some reason even though we were there to spend money and be merry.I was embarrassed to have brought my friends here. I chose this place and take full blame for that. I did address the owner with these same concerns and left with his insincere apology. It was just really unfortunate as I love wine and local businesses. We spent the remainder of our evening at Pleasant Hill 8 minute away, and it was truly pleasant. Please be advised that if you chose Shade for your evening, you may be met with a sour taste in your mouth-- pretty place, ugly service.

I'd leave a 0 if I could. I realize no dogs is a thing and I'd have been ok taking my dog back to the truck and coming back had the staff not been so rude. The girl hosting went inside after looking at us and got the manager/owner I don't know which told us no dogs allowed. It's not what you say.. its how you say it. We go to wineries often and love it. We won't ever go here again. As I've seen others post. We went to pleasant hill. Sooo much nicer and what an amazing time. Save yourself the headache and go the extra 10 min or so.

What a wonderful place this is. Suzi and I look forward to coming here for our favorite wine(Frog Hair), outstanding food and friendly service. We had the Crab cakes and Teriyaki Salmon along with the Chocolate Bomb dessert complimented by our wine and delicious french press coffee. Do yourself a favor and visit this place.

Can’t say enough good things about Shade Winery. The wine, food, setting, staff and owners are fantastic. We’ve had the pleasure to watch the winery grow over the past five years and appreciate the vision and commitment of the owners for their continued dedication to make this such a special place. We’ve been to countless wineries around the country and this little gem is one of our all-time favorites. We just had dinner tonight and as usual, everything was delicious. Go, enjoy the setting and support a great, local business.

Shade Winery was an intimate eating experience. While expensive, the food was delicious and perfectly cooked, so it was worth it. The menu changes monthly, so what I ordered isn't super important. However, we had the baked brie, which was delicious and perfectly balanced with the acidity of dried cherries. I have the cesar salad and my partner has the NY strip steak. Both were fresh and the steak was perfectly cooked. The service was exceptional as well.

My parents and I made reservations to come try Shade Winery out. Great food and wine (they also have Jackie O’s draft beer!) They have separate servers for wine and food, something to keep in mind. Busy night and a little bit of a wait but we also arrived very early prior to our reservation. A bit pricey, but that’s what you get sometimes! We loved the atmosphere and would definitely recommend to anyone.
