On our 39th anniversary my husband suggested we go out so I wouldn’t have to cook. I felt like staying home but liked the idea of not cooking so I suggested the new place in town.Boy, am I ever glad I did!! We opted for takeout—as can be seen in the photos. Our hostess wished us a happy anniversary upon delivery. The atmosphere is quite homey and pleasing so we’ll probably eat there next time (maybe too often as it’s just a quick 5-10 minute walk from our house, depending on how many Pokestops draw my attention).But you want to hear about the food, I’m sure… it was all scrumptious! Seriously! After my first bite of the angusburger I ordered, I exclaimed “Well, that’s the best burger I’ve had in a while!” I had Gouda cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickles on it, adding my own homemade mustard at home. My hubby was equally pleased with his brisket sandwich. He opted for bbq sauce on the side and was very happy to be able to eat his sandwich both plain and dipped.We split an order of fries—it was a nice amount for each of us as was going halvsies on the Carolina slaw. I loved having a choice between regular creamy slaw and our vinegar-based Carolina slaw—delicious!For dessert, I had the killer yummy North Pole Cake—a deadly deep chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and peppermint pieces. My husband had the gingerbread cake with buttercream icing. I stole a bite of his and it was just as moist and lovely as was mine.I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone! I’ll probably go back in the next few days to grab some of the hamloaf from the butcher/deli section to cook at home. They have the foundation of a great addition to our downtown. Hopefully, dear readers, you’ll help build their clientele and reputation.

Just passing through town, but had heard about J Lanes from a local, so we stopped in for a Eggg/Cheese/Suasage breakfast sandwich. Watched the staff hand patty my sausage. They let me add sauted onions which take a second. We waited patiently and enjoyed the moment to chill with some deviled eggs. I counted 6 people there working various jobs. They handed us our single sandwich in a to-go bag. I thought maybe they bought specially weighted bags to trick you into thinking you bought a lot, but no, it was just that one sandwich. My wife and I got back onto the windy Appalachian roads and about crashed the van when we dug into our shared meal. Sooo good! Sooo fresh! Tender, delicious sausage. So glad we stopped!
