This no-kill shelter is passionate about finding animals their forever home, and it is truly a labor of love. We have adopted two beautiful pups here, and are so grateful for the work they do. They have so many beautiful dogs, and the adoption fee covers spay/neutering, microchipping, initial immunizations and more. If you are looking to bring a furry friend home, make this your first stop❤️

I have adopted and will look to do it again, so many dogs, cats go without being loved and given a chance to live a happy life. If you can come and check out the amazing dogs and cats for adoption. The staff goes above and beyond for caring for all animals.

They tell me I’m wasting their time by calling they 3 hours to save a dog. I have beautiful land and then they look up my records from a vet from 10 years ago and say I haven’t been up to date on vaccinations. My dogs were 12 and 14 and died naturally. Terrible experience. It’s the unhuamain society

Very poor experience! F++++ experience I have 3 acres of FENCED in yard with a past adopted dog from Royal Canine. Poor excuse of a shelter! Went and visited the dog 4 times and wouldn’t even “let me in” and visit him. Said he was adopted and he still sits on the website! Please quit donating to this place!

Very, very nice people at this business. And is it a really nice humane society. A No Kill one at that. Today, 4-30-2022 we rescued a female doberman. She is beautiful and very curious about everything. And she just LOVES to give kisses. I am so very, very happy to be her "Mom". We will give her all the love and attention that she needs. Thank you to the Preble County Humane Society. And a big, big THANK YOU to Leslie 👍👍😊

We had a great experience adopting from here! Leslie was very understanding and showed us how great Gracie (previously Liberty) could be! When we first met her Gracie was a little aloof, but Leslie was able to show us how loving and goofy she was! Gracie is now living her best life with us. We will definitely adopt from them again!

I went there to see if they would take cats, The lady said they could not get rid of cats. I asked what should i do, and she only would raise her arms as to say it's up to you. They only take dogs that they can sell. What a waste of my tax dollars, that was put on my property taxes to build that new building.

Please do not pay attention to the negative reviews. You have to understand how rescues work & why they will deny adoptions. And all the negative comments were from people who were denied. But if you don't own your home, you are more likely to move. If your current pets aren't up to date on vaccinations, why would they think you would take your new pet to the vet, etc. They don't want to have these pets back so there is certain criteria that will get you denied. This is a great place & they care about the animals. We just adopted a puppy, "Bay" today & all staff was very friendly, nice & helpful. They returned my 2 check-in calls within an hour & our application was approved within 5 days. We will definitely go back again if we need another furbaby.

My wife and I are an older couple (I’m retired and always home), owned current home for 19yrs., have a large yard w/6’ high privacy fence, great reference from our vet, no kids and 1 fifteen year old miniature long haired dachshund. However, we were refused adoption twice without ever letting us know why-totally dismissed for no reason. Our vet said it could be because we don’t get annual inoculations but he also said we don’t need to because she never leaves the house! The height of rudeness is totally ignoring somebody. If you are truly interested in adopting a shelter dog go to the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center on Webster St. in Dayton. Beautiful/clean facilities, friendly and knowledgeable staff, sensible application protocol, and efficiency (makes Eaton look like Motel 6). At MCARC you receive neutering, all shots, license, microchipping, and free obedience classes for life of the dog. ALL THIS FOR $20! They actually want to find good forever homes for their animals. In Eaton for over 10 times the amount you “hope” to get treated with respect and, if you are lucky, a dog?

While I understand the standards I'm completely heartbroken that my application was denied. Despite owning my own home for 3 years and having a fully fenced yard they decided the dog I applied for "might" jump the fence. So regardless of whether the dog would have been completely loved and cared for I was denied due to an assumption on their part. I showed great interest by calling and checking on my application, the dog would have been walked daily and played with, only let out alone to potty and wouldn't have been left for extended periods of time since someone would have always been home. Unfortunately I basically won't be able to apply for any dog in the future that needs a fenced yard (despite having one) because they "might" jump my standard chinlink fence. Thanks for denying a pet a good home on an assumption.

When you walk into a rescue the cleanliness of the lobby is the level of concern of where the adopted pets are going. They are so clean, organized and the pets are the main concern. From the application to the conversation/interview. We got a rescue pup 5 years ago from them and she is such a great dog. She has had to lick on my son neck as what we thought was his own special greeting. My son was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. After his surgery she stopped. She detects my hubby's high blood pressure and there is so much more to the point visitors ask her what they need looked at lol. We live this place and would never go anywhere else. Posting a pic of my son and our photo bombing Annabelle. Thank you Humane society of preble this goes deep in our heart she's our healer

I've had nothing but a great experience adopting a dog here. We adopted Auron a year ago and they were great to work with, extremely responsive. I do believe they care about what is best for the animals in each specific situation. I think the adoption fees are more than fair.I would take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. No, an animal shelter is not going to adopt out a high-energy dog if you don't have a fence. If your current animals are not up to date on vaccines you're probably going to get denied. And, if you're going to adopt a puppy or a kitten from a shelter "so it can stay outside in your fence", they are more than likely going to pass. Common sense, people.

Don't listen to the bad reviews. Leslie and her team are extremely professional and always keep the animals safety first. Sometimes that means you don't get the dog you want because it's not a good fit for your home.I found Muffy by accident and today she is sleeping in her new forever home.Thank you Leslie and team!!!!

Went here to ask about adopting 1 of 4 puppies this humane society had as a birthday present for my girlfriend. They responded with as I should have already known that they had over 200 applications for them. They then let us walk around the rooms where the dogs were at and walked towards a door that apparently had the puppies and one of the workers basically scolded us telling us that we couldn't be there. If they didn't want us in certain areas of the facility then they need to be marked "off limits".I don't know how that place is still in business when they don't let anyone adopt cats or dogs from there. I've been tempted to go back there just to give them my opinion on how they treat customers.

This place is a joke!!! I’ve attempted animal adoptions in the past to be turned down saying I wasn’t qualified (no excuse why, we have more then enough means, room, amazing yard and experience with medical conditions when it comes to pets) but then to watch as the animal goes to a home that doesn’t have the means or qualifications. The times I’ve gone in they have been so unclean. I and others I know have called to get assistance with animal rescues and the response you get is just horrible or they just refuse to help but isn’t that what they are for? Or at least give you advise or is that animal not good enough to get your fees? It’s really quiet pathetic. I’ve also had numerous friends with lost pets experience some horrible stuff with this humane society. Just not a good place. (Also that no fence garbage is bull with this place, don’t use that line when I know a lot of people who you approved with no fence, and you clearly knew that) rude staff by far!!! Are you there to rescue pets or what!!!!!!

I HIGHLY recommend adopting here!Wonderful experience! While I worked there the coworkers I was with were absolutely fantastic and those dogs are surrounded with so much love! Leslie cares so much about every single animal that walks (or is carried) in those doors! All of the dogs have special requirements and we know this because we work with them every single day. We are their owners until they leave us! So the ones that were denied more than likely just wasn’t the perfect people for a dog that they chose! There were other options for them but sometimes people just didn’t want to wait!! We are all very easy to work with and talk to!Remember your adopting a new family member to love and cherish the rest of their lives! It’s not always easy but it’s worth it!🖤

TO ALL ANIMAL CHARITY WORKERS!I understand that you feel closer to animals than people. Evidently, this is what God has put in your heart. Mine too. I was on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society in Dayton then worked there for a decade. You MUST understand that the only way to stop animal neglect/cruelty is education and usually that starts with US workers! Treating potential adopters rude and inconvenient is counterintuitive. This attitude must stop. If you see someone who truly loves the dog but may not have the ideal circumstances, at long as it's within the guidance... Work with them. If you are unable to treat all with dignity and respect than please do not work with animals as you will only do more harm. Mercy and compassion are not conditional... You either have it.... Or you don't.

Went in to go look at some kittens. I loved the cats! Put in an application. Lady was snobby with me. I filled out an application. Felt like I was discriminated for my age. Planned on having a kitty house outside with water and food. With a fenced backyard for them to play in. Got a call not even 10 minutes later saying I was denied because “8 week old kittens can’t stay outside”. Kinda disappointed as they have sooo many kittens that need a home. This was going to be a loving and caring home.

I recently lost all respect for this facility. I applied to adopt a dog and stopped into the building to check on my application where I was told they could never adopt a dog to me. Her first reason for this was I have 3 kids. She went on to tell me that I can not possibly watch 3 kids and a dog. I have never been so disrespected by a stranger. It was so disappointing and rude. She tried to back track and say it was because my yard is not fenced, but she led the refusal with my children as reason for denial. They want to play God with dog adoptions. I've had to pick up dogs off the street that they've adopted to people so they don't get hit, only to have a stranger tell me my limitations as a mother and caregiver. Disgusting. Won't return.

We are currently looking to adopt a dog from Preble County Humane Society. We have been there 4 times to visit Owen. (2 hour drive) The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The place was clean and the dogs exercised and loved on. A no kill shelter. These employees want the best for these dogs that have had a rough start to life! You can’t blame them for that. Everyone on here is condemning people who have not walked in these employees shoes! There were over 100 applications for Owen. Will we be sad if we don’t get him, yes. We probably check all the right boxes for adoption...it just tells me that Owen is bound to have a great home regardless which makes me super happy! I say thanks to Preble County Humane Society for all that you do.

I have 2 dogs and wanted to add a dog to help with my fearful dog. If you've never had a fearful dog, they can be hard. The description posted about a dog I was interested in made me think this could be the dog I've been searching for. I was hesitant reading reviews but thought give it a try. We heard back from our email application the next afternoon. Leslie meet us with our dogs the next morning and was so helpful and really understood about my shy dog. We were thrilled to take our newest baby home that day. It has been a perfect match. Dandy now Ned is so sweet and happy, he has changed everything for the better. Thank you to everyone at this wonderful place!

I adopted my sweet Evy (fka Zaida) on Halloween 2022. My family and I ADORE her. The staff here was so friendly and so welcoming of me and let me spend quite some time trying to make sure Evy would be a good fit. The adoption process was professional and they made it so easy for me. They even sent her home with a toy! If you're thinking of adding a furry family member please adopt and don't shop. If you want an amazing adoption experience consider adopting from the Humane Society- Preble County. If you are looking for a great cause to donate to, consider them. They also have an Amazon wishlist you can donate directly from. 😊🐾♥️

We adopted a 4 month old puppy.Only to find out the very next day from our vet that she has a level 5/6 Heart Murmur. We were told she should have not been up for adoption in her condition. The whole time we had her she was drowsy and fatigued and looked like she would pass out.Not to mention she had conjunctivitis badly all within 24 hours.Be sure you take your puppy/dog to the vet ASAP if you get one from here. After reading these reviews it seems like they may have known this and pushed her faster to us.Everyone else seems to have had trouble adopting quickly we had her in one day.Our hearts are broken to loose our dear Maize. But we can not afford a 1000 Cardiologist appointment and treatment. This was hidden and not disclosed at adoption but blamed on the humane society’s “vet” or suggested we are lying... why would our vet lie? We even took in the paperwork.I don’t think we would trust them to adopt again from this facility. I just hope she gets the treatment she needs and it is properly disclosed to the next family.

I really enjoyed my experience here. The worker/volunteer (I'm not sure which) was so professional! She asked me what my home life was like in regards to other pets, yard situation, family members, etc. and made sure that I was seeing dogs that were compatible. I told her I wanted to see three dogs that I saw on Pet finder , and she told me a little about each one of the dogs I was interested in.The first dog I met I fell in love with, and we started the application for him right away. This shelter requires meet and greets for any pet that is in the household, which is good. All in all, I had a great experience. I've spoken to some others who have had less stellar experiences, so I think that it all depends on who is working. Still, I think this shelter is very cute and the workers I spoke to were kind and helpful.

To start this is a no kill shelter. They are full to the brim. Their adoption prices are very high. $225 for a dog adoption.Less for a cat. Which if price were just a bit more reasonable the adoption rate would be much higher. That being said the cost of shots and spaying or neutering is included. Kennels definitely had unpleasant smell and this was in afternoon after cleaning. It didn't look dirty but smelled like it was. Misting Odoban thru kennels goes a long way. I'm a retired kennel supervisor/Animal Control Officer of an Animal Control facility in FL quadruple the size of this shelter so I know what I speak of. But that being said their mission is a good one and adopting a shelter animal should always be the first choice. Saw some great dogs and cats that need loving homes and the shelter can always use donations!

I went in to possibly adopt a dog.. listened to a 5 minute long speech about how to walk through the room with the kennels.. then I said “okay sounds good!” And the woman got snappy and said “let me finish!”… and then went on and on.Then a few minutes later, I walked back out to the entryway room. I asked if they had any dogs that were older and good with kids and they said rudely, “I don’t know off the top of my head”… it was a very strange experience and I’m confused if they actually want the dogs to be adopted? They were not interested in helping me AT ALL. It’s sad because they had 48 dogs in one room waiting to be adopted and not one of the 3 employees I saw were willing to answer my questions or help.

I love this place, i have been coming in almost everyday for two weeks just to visit with the animals there. The workers are very and and it is very clean. People complain about the smell but its an animal shelter, its not gonna smell like roses. I personally have had a good experience with the workers and pets there. Mind you, im from Cleveland. We have many animal shelters in the city but this one is the best that ive experienced. I unfortunately cannot adopt as i am a minor and i already have pets, however i would highly suggest this place. The only thing i can think of that I would like changed is the prices. Again im not adopting but a lot more animals would be if the prices weren't so high.
