Came in about two weeks ago after seeing he had some Leopoldi Angelfish available per his website. When I arrived I was happy to see he did in fact have several angelfish but they were significantly larger than the angels I already had in my tank. I voice my concerns about this as I’ve never had angels before so I’m unsure myself. After I get his opinion on whether that would be ok or not. He stated “it shouldn’t be a problem and the small ones will grow fast and catch up quickly”. WRONG. The two angels I got from him devastated my other angels by continuously picking at them and chasing them and not allowing them to eat. My other babies have actual bite marks on their bodies and their fins are in terrible shape. I almost lost one of them; so after a little over a week of this I decided this weekend I was going to take them back. Be it Refund, store credit or just hoping they would find a different and better home- I didn’t care. So promptly at 11am when they open I called but no answer. I decide to go ahead and bag them up and head that way (45 min drive for me) and I call again on my way and someone answers. I tell him the above story and HE WONT TAKE THEM BACK! He says he can’t cause he quarantines his fish. Well….these can be quarantined too! What am I supposed to do with these fish now! And he is the one that talked me into getting them in the first place. Very disappointed and even more so for the two poor angels that are now stuck in my own small quarantine tank until hopefully I can find someone that will take them . Poor fish. And I will never go back to this store.

I was hoping for some cheaper more basic fish, but my daughter loved the ones she got. you can tell the maintenance on the tanks is top notch. We will definitely be going back.

So glad I found this place. Owner is great. Love that the fish are quarantined before sale. Tanks are all maintained nice. I saw no sick fish. Also no shared water between tanks. Great place to go for guaranteed healthy fish! My Bolivian Ram is doing well.

I've been keeping fish for 55 years, back in the day there were true hobbyist stores. Haven't seen them for 25 years, until today. This store, has a great variety of healthiest fish I've seen in all my years visiting shops. Not a sick fish in the store. The prices were very fair. In one trip it became my store.

My new favorite fish store! He knows his fish they are well kept and in proper environments. First choice in fish shopping no doubt. The man is so friendly and helpful. He even helped bring my son into the experience. Here are some of the beautiful fish I got here.

We used to go to Monfort Aquarium but over time they have struggled keeping healthy fish in stock. We then looked around and found Daves shop and its an awesome local fish store! I will not go to any other ones now because I know he has the best quality fish, shrimp, and knowledge!

Great inventory for a smaller (square footage) store. Some really cool exotic species and a great selection of your more common stuff like Cichlids. Has decor and a good selection of foods also. Priced pretty well for it being a smaller store.

HANDS DOWN best fish store in tristate area if you are a freshwater hobbiest! I've been to every aquatic store in Cincinnati and NKY and this is the only place that quarantines their fish for 10 days at his house before he even puts them in the store. He has the healthiest fish I've seen in a LFS. Carry's all top notch fish and needs. If your a cichlid lover like me this is the store you wanna shop at.

Hands down the best aquarium store in Cincinnati for fresh and salt water supplies and fish. I've never seen cleaner tanks or healthier fish in this area, and my wife and I have been to a dozen. The shop is run entirely by one person and his wife, he's very passionate about what he does and is a wealth of knowledge.We've purchased beautiful discus, plecos, rams, unique tetras, rocks, supplies, you name it. Whenever a fish is struggling they always know exactly what to do and I'm amazed with how knowledgeable and friendly they are.The owner has even given me a discount when a discus didn't make since I made such a large purchase.My wife and I love coming here and are already life long customers!

Great owner and great customer service! Bought a saltwater fish from him before driving an hour to work and then a 4 hour shift and he bagged it in an extra large bag with PLENTY of air so that the little guy would have plenty of oxygen and he comfortable in the bag for his journey home to my aquarium. Definitely great customer service!

I drove here from Troy because I couldn't find any other shops with the specific fish I wanted. I'm so glad I made the drive. Dave was super friendly and easy to talk with, the shop was very clean and I could definitely tell a lot of care goes in to the fish there. The prices are also really good. I left with a nice piece of driftwood, that I hadn't planned on getting when I went in, but the price was much better than I've seen anywhere else.My Blue Acara are beautiful and I hope they'll settle in nicely.

So I drove down from Dayton and the store was super easy to find. Doors opened at noon and once inside I was like a kid in a candy store. What an awesome setup. The store was so clean and the tanks are crystal clear. There's a good variety of fish and it's very clear that Dave knows fish. I highly recommend this shop and I'm sure that I will be back. Great job Dave!

Great place! You can tell he loves his job. We went in just to buy a couple Rams for our freshwater tank and left with enough materials to start up our other Saltwater tank. Pricing was too good to pass up. Our new fish friends are in great shape and of high quality.

Blue Hook Aquatics is absolutely my new favorite place to go for my aquarium. I have been in multiple times just to ask questions, and on every occasion they have taken the time to answer every single one. They have an incredible selection of salt water and fresh water fish and you can tell that they truly care for them all. The knowledge they have of their products is impeccable. They also quarantine every single fish that they have for sale which saves me a huge step. Not to mention that they are so kind. I promise you, that if you just walk through the door your interest in aquariums will definitely be heightened.

Not only a very clean establishment with VERY quality fish stocked, but very hospitable and knowledgeable. Even stayed open on a closed day for a buddy of mine to stop in and get me a cannafix for my sick oscar. Top of the line service, attitude and the dude that runs it is excellent. I'd like to see it open more hours and more live feeder fish and live blackworms blood worms etc

Cleanest tanks I have ever seen. Super friendly and helpful. Also like that each tank is individually filtered. Fantastic selections of cichlids, rainbow fish, and a few saltwater fish as well. He had everything I needed for my tank, and was very knowledgeable and was also great at “keeping it simple” for everyone to understand how to keep a tank.

Blue Hook Aquatics is an outstanding business for beginners, intermediate and expert aquaria enthusiasts. The owner is knowledgeable in fresh and saltwater fish, their desired diet, and their preferred environment. He is the only person I know of that quarantines his own distributions at his own home for 10 days!!! This is unheard of service, mainly because I never worry about adding new additions. People drive hours to get here. Do yourself a favor and make the trip.

Super helpful staff, very high quality fish, which are now home healthy and happy! Even though we live over two hours away, this will be our go-to for all future fish- I would encourage anyone to give them a visit and support this gem.

The absolute cleanest tanks and store in the Cincinnati area. Very well lit store not like a lot of other local fish stores that resemble dark caves. I want to stop in and look around every time I'm in the area. His cichlid collection is out of this world. No pressure to buy.If you want inspiration to build a new aquarium this is your place. Dave is a super guy and his store is top notch. I hope he keeps expanding and never lets his store fall to the level of so many other local fish stores. Absolute top notch place.
