Dog Warden very nice and professional. Woman behind desk very rude Needs to be trained on how to deal with public This is very unfair for the dogs And she knows who she is We asked questions on phone about the dog we adopted and she called SheriffsDept and said we were arguing with her Total lie We have adopted several dogs from there and have never been treated badly

Absolutely loved the welcome I received and the helpfulness of the staff when I came in looking for a fur baby. I told them what I was looking for in a pet and they brought out the most adorable and loving dog I have seen in a long time. I adopted her, and am very happy with my decision. She has been the most well behaved and loving fur baby. She's completely house broken and playful, even though she's four years old. She was said to have issues with cats, but doesn't seem to mind the community cats that roam through our yard and tend to chill on our porch. She ignores them and walks on by. She's been perfect so far, her temperament is loving and playful. She's been the perfect addition to my home.

ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! I came to this dog shelter to adopt my puppy a couple of months ago. The experience at this place was absolutely horrific due to the staff. When I came to adopt I asked to meet my puppy before signing paper work and was told “she’s a puppy she’ll like anyone” and then another staff member shoved her in my arms. The woman behind the desk is absolutely horrible at her job. She somehow manages to make you feel upset & uncomfortable on a day that should be very happy!Also, I was told (and paid for) my dog would be treated for fleas and she never was. I was also told I would have an appointment to get her spayed (something I also paid for) and they never made the appointment. Don’t think you’ll get anything you’ve paid for here.Yesterday I called the shelter in order to get medical records. It took three phone calls for the woman behind the desk to answer. When she answered and I asked for the records I got laughed at!!!! That seems dramatic, but that 100% is the truth. She then told me she’s “too busy” and will call me later... never got my records! I’ve never met anyone more deserving of being fired.I normally don’t write reviews, but I am astounded and upset about who they allow to work here. These dogs deserve a good home & having someone like her at the front desk leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths and makes them less likely to adopt.PLEASE FIRE HERE! I’d work there for free if it meant this woman would be fired. She makes it harder for dogs to be adopted.

Terrible experience. Good dogs, awful workers. A friend and I went to the shelter in search of a dog for our house. One woman basically scoffed when we asked to get a dog out of the cage because we were interested.When playing with the sweet dog, we noticed that he had patches of missing fur. When we asked about it, they said that it may be fleas or a food allergy but they had no idea and its been there for a while. It is their job to care for this animal and he was obviously in pain. When walking out, one man yelled at me for not following the rules, although not a single person advised us on how to handle the dogs in the correct manner. Just a word of advice: If you want people to adopt your dogs, then don't be ridiculously rude to those who walk in the door.Please, don't feel like you cannot go to this shelter, all of these dogs deserve loving homes; but please be aware of the workers and what to expect. I don't want anyone to feel almost forced to leave like we did.

They gave me free dog food when I asked and a fre roll of poop bags. Also they did not ask me to remove my dog as your not suppose to bring your pets inside but I have a service dog... they made no mention of it...I always appreciate someone who can read the signs posted on the side of my dog and not need to ask if he's a service dog...

The athens county Dog Shelter is a great place , they do fosters adopts and tagging and are very involved in the community as well , i definetly encourage you to save a dog from boredom in a shelter , my dog thanks my family every second .

I adopted my dog Amber from here back in March of 2018. The workers here are nice and patient. They even geniunly thanked me when I came back to donate dog food and treats that we found she didn't like. I was going to donate from Richland county dog shelter and put in a application about a month or two before we adopter her but they shipped him off to a different shelter. I'm so happy we found her though. She is the most spoiled brat ever. 😂😂

Hello my wife and i was in the athens ohio dog shelter today and the shelter employees helped us understand the adoption process and even let us bring our own dog in to see if the dog we were getting would get along with him. I would recomend this shelter to anyone.

This is where I got my last dog. I wont own another if I dont get it from a dog shelter. Now that animal abuse has become a felony (should have been before)that and the Sheriff's office running things there. I wonder how many people will continue to get their tags at the dog shelter?
