My experience is usually pretty good here. The employees are always friendly and helpful. However tonight I was extremely disappointed in the girls attitude. Me and my spouse are very interested in buying a furry friend to share our life with and we have been intrigued with a specific breed and they never have them because they sell so fast and the one time they do and we loved. She told us no even though other people who are just there to play with puppies were still in the cubicles. Super disappointed. Hope I don’t run into that employee again👎

Iv been to a lot of awful petlands before but this one I'd nice. The employees are friendly and the store smells nice and is clean.The animals here are also in great condition compared to other stores iv been in. The fish are well kept with very few dead ones if any in the tanks and no signs of diseases. The birds are some of the friendliest birds iv ever seen in a pet store. I took the only female parakeet to hold and she didn't bite me just wanted to hang out on my shoulder and look around the store with me. Quite a experience from all the mesn birds that's iv encountered so the employees really care about the animals there.I cannot recommend enough you at least go check this store out as it has many different animals. Picture is just for cuteness.

Little late to leaving a review.my family and I purchased a dog there. Priced competively with what labradoodle are going for. You DO NOT have to purchase things there. They give you a take home kit which is all included even has a cage for your dog no extra cost as stated in a previous review. If you do live away from them which we do they offer cover 50$ of your first visit if you don't take it to one in Athens. Which to me is no big deal. Definitely have a return customer in me and my family!!

I love pet land so much. One of the workers, Mrs.Alyssa is super kind. She always helps me when it comes to playing with puppies or the ball pythons. She is verry, verry sweet and her and her co-workers are quick on their feet, super kind, and helpful, as well as understanding. They sure do care and know a lot about their animals. Their puppies are well behaved, the snakes are a bit head shy but can be super sweet. Their birds are handleable and the rodents they have are sweet and sleep most of the time. I absolutely love Pet Land with my whole heart, they have nice workers, animals, and prices, especially Mrs. Alyssa!!

The gal that helped me was super nice & when she saw me looking at the clothes, she said, "All of those are 75% off."I was so happy 'cause my little furbaby can always use clothes, since she goes to work with me. And I spoil her even more now because she is now an only child.I mostly got XS's, which I will need to make the girth about an inch bigger, BUT I am very happy with all I purchased. All of the outfits I bought came with a matching leash. I feel like I hit the jackpot!

I pre paid for a hairless rat at this place. They said it would be a few weeks before they could get one and that they would call me when they got it in. Well, six months had past and they still hadn’t gotten the rat. I just asked for my money back and they outright refused. I came back A couple weeks later and told them I needed my money back, the lady working took my address down and said she would send me a check in the mail. The check predictably never came. I gave them over $30 for absolutely nothing.

We were in this dusty dirty store for over an hour. 4 people working, 1 was selling a puppy, bunny and everything else while the other 3 were taking photos of puppies. In the mean time cages needed cleaned and not 1 employee acknowledged us.

Went to get a puppy here and the staff was great!!! They helped us get everything we needed for our brand new puppy. They did everything in their power to help us have the best experience we could possibly have! Highly recommended coming here if you are in the market for a puppy. The welcome home starter kit and all of the warranties that come with your puppy are super awesome! Tiffanie and the manager helped us the whole day!!

This Petland is by far the best Petland I have ever been in. Everyone here is incredibly friendly and they always give great advice on how to take care of your animals. I bought my ferret and my snake there and they were incredibly helpful with advice on them. They have always helped us to figure out the best things to buy for our animals at the most affordable price. The employees are all very loving toward the animals there, and it's really easy to see that they actually care about the animals they're selling.

Average prices on toys, foods and accessories for pets and pretty well stocked. But the price of the dogs is definitely a bit high when they are finally ready to give a price. But the catch is that you have to buy a ton of stuff from them to keep the health guarantee valid and that's been a big deal breaker for me considering that they want you to buy stuff that's not neccessary and is expensive for what it is and the fact that there's better products for less money available out there from the competition and well everyone is aware of their reputation for selling sick pets . They also require you to see their vet an hour away from the store and is not a vet that I would be willing to see on a regular basis as their main concern is to back up the store and not the health of the animals. Would I get a pet from them in the future probably not since they have a ton of strings attached and that theirs a ton of reputable breeders that do not put as many conditions on the sale and are fine with you seeing the vet of your choice and not their vet. I definitely think that they need to find a locale vet in the county that they are in instead of requiring a trip of an hour each way. Not good and then you still have to see your own vet anyway because they are unwilling to do anything else like heartworm or flea meds that they should be willing to do on the owners expense but they refuse and lie about it. So we will never get their dogs especially when most reputable breeders refuse to deal with any pet stores and they go through puppy mills and brokers for animals and most people who are good pet parents don't want to deal with the puppy mills and brokers because of the fact that they don't have the pups best intrest at heart but are simply profit driven and motivated.

I would never recommend buying a dog at this store. The gentleman that helped us was very nice, but coming from someone who runs two stores in retail right now this business is ran absolutely scummy and terrible. We visited and talked about purchasing a dog and the representative was trying to have us buy a ton of extra products with the purchase of the dog. As a sales manager I would love to sell everything every time , but you have to tailor the customers needs. I called back again to get a price check and they had given a HIGHER price for just out the door and with all the SPECIAL insurances, products, and food they wanted you to leave with. Someone should probably call the better business bureau about this store because last time I checked you can’t switch the price like that and make the customer take a bunch of extra things they don’t need. And $4,400 out the door?! I hope that dog can fly at that rate.

Would not buy anything from here. I bought a bearded dragon from them and it was acting weird and would not eat from the get go. I went to the store and told them what was going on. Employee said there was definitely something wrong, and there was nothing that they could do since I did not buy all my supplies from them. I bought most of my supplies from pets mart. Much cheaper for the same products, and they will let you buy as many crickets as you need. Not just a dozen or two at a time like at petland. I called the corporate customer service line, they took my info and have not even bothered to call back. They don't care about their customers. But the bearded dragon did pass away only 7 day after purchase

Kinda sad to see the conditions animals were in. Also not a fan of how much this place boasts about how "different" it is from other corporate pet stores. People should adopt animals from safe, reputable sources...which Petland isn't. I'll happily pass.

this place breaks my heart. The conditions the pets are kept in are awful!! Specifically the rabbits and guinea pigs. They should NEVER share an enclosure together!! There were 2 rabbits with 4 guineas. They can get sick this way! And there was NO hay in the enclosure. If you know anything at all about rabbits, you know they need A LOT of hay. It has to be the main part of their diet or they can get very sick. Rabbits also need room to move around. This enclosure was tiny. The rabbits looked sad and were very lethargic, which either means they are depressed or sick - or bith (which is likely the case). I refuse to go in there ever again. It makes me too sad. I don’t understand how pet stores are allowed to keep their animals in such sad conditions. If you buy a rabbit or Guinea pig here, just know they are likely to be sick!

I was in Petland and all of the reptiles were out of water. There were three employees doing nothing but ordering food. A few months ago I loved going in to look at the animals, but after today I will not be coming back to buy a puppy, I will go elsewhere. There was one young male in particular that was very rude. I told the manager about the reptiles, and lots of dead fish and she was nice and said she would go look. This one employee said mean things to me because I told his manager that he was eating a lollipop instead of doing his job.

Great place and cute doggos. The staff were incredibly nice as well! Unfortunately still have to wear a mask even if you are vaccinated, but that's totally understandable. It's a great place overall!

I work in the Activities Department at Arbors at Pomeroy nursing and rehab. Petland started coming this month bringing the animals and it brings a lot of joy to our residents. They absolutely love it as well as the staff. We hope they continue to come with there animals. The Petland staff are very friendly and understanding with the residents and staff.

Dogs are WAY over priced. Staff never asks if you need help you have to talk to them even if they're literally following you around the store. We got some hamsters and 3 minutes outside Athens they had both already chewed through the paper boxes they put them in so we had to pull off the highway and put them in the box the cage we bought for them so we could take 20 minutes to build the cage so they wouldnt escape. No one gave us any warning of this. The boxes were already flimsy to begin with, but my wife thought she might be able to contain them for the ride home considering the workers didnt say anything about it. Very displeased, we'll stick with local breeders for dogs and pet supplies plus for everything else.

Update: We went in to buy puppy food and the staff was really helpful. When they found out about all the issues we were asked if we would tell the manager. The Manager named Andy, was really nice and polite. He gave us a big bag of food, vitamins, and a toy all FREE. Luna is doing well now as well.We just got a goldendoodle puppy from them Friday. For one they are not honest about anything. Most importantly the puppies are SICK. Also the vet said the puppy is way to skinny and I have had her 4 days!!! They know it too because the girl that worked there said her own puppy was very sick! My puppy went to the vet today and tested positive for coccidia a possible deadly parasite! Also has something wrong with her eyes!!! The crazy thing is she had already been treated for this and they failed to mention it so the first dose didn't worse meaning all the puppies have it and it spreads quickly by their stool!!! This place should be shut down!! $3000 on a puppy and this..... Very upset!!

Got a bird from there, 2 days later the bird is dead. So I got another one. In less than 24 hours the second bird dies. What the hey??? Then turn around and want to sell me yet another. REALLY? I dont think so, you got more of my money than you deserve. They really don't deserve the 1 star I gave them. But I had to give them something.

Lots of dead fish in bowls, very bad looking reptiles, etc. The birds were not caged properly at all and definitely needed more space. I would not recommend buying any animals from this place, as they probably have a lot of medical problems

The staff are kind and helpful. The place is orderly and cleanly. I was happy that this places carries the brand Li'l Pals, which is a specialty brand for dogs 5 lbs and under, I am unable to find this brand elsewhere.

I think this is the worst pet store in Athens, Ohio.As a pet lover I am personally appalled by the way things are run out here. Too many cages packed with animals, and don't even get me started on the whole puppy thing. The prices here are outrageous when they don't even pay attention to their stock (like the fish) and it makes me grateful that there's other people out there that run way better establishments than this.Go to PetSmart for the general stuff. Sometimes they have (adoptable) kitties. Overall, the staff is pretty knowledgable but sometimes they won't tell customers what they really need to hear, like the fact it's inhumane to keep 5 goldfish in one tiny bowl.Go to Fish N' Stuff if you would like experienced employees who go through their stocks and label which ones are sick. They have cheap live plants and lots of selection there. I've heard some iffy things about their reptiles, but I'm more into aquariums than those. Besides, I would just go to a reputable breeder for stuff like that.Go to Friendly Paws for your dog/cat needs.Go to Petland when you want to spend too much money on products that aren't even that good and you want to stare at sick puppies through a glass. I've spent almost $50 here just trying to get plants for my tank (that were half dead, by the way!) and each and every plant is $5.99 each. Which is ridiculous. I couldn't believe when I found Fish N' Stuff that some places don't just charge $5.99 for pretty much dead plants. I got some plants for less than a dollar!Overall, I'm glad that Athens has more options than just this place. I suggest that anyone reading chooses one of the others I mentioned over this place. They're basically the WalMart of pet stores and it frustrates me. I feel bad for the others in the reviews who mentioned getting sick puppies or other ill animals, but I do recommend adopting or at the very least going to a good pet store (because Athens has those!) rather than settling for this place. Sure, the puppies are cute, but supporting the inhumane treatment of these animals here just isn't.
