Love their mission. Love how many animals they save and that they’re a no kill shelter. Love that they care for animals other shelters would put down and care for illnesses. Don’t like that there’s not much method to the madness. A fight almost broke out the other day. No where does it say where you’re allowed in or what animals you can or cannot hold. The signs just say an animal is unavailable. It should specify that it is unavailable to hold or pet for clarity. I think it’s a little dangerous to not be clear about these things. Also, I had been holding a kitten for days prior, and it hadn’t had a sign on its cage at all. Well, an older staff member came over and yelled at me for holding the kitten despite it having been okay other days. She was rude and condescending, yelling at me in front of everyone, and snatching the cat from my lap. I understand this, but there’s definitely more polite ways to handle that situation. I was also disappointed when they made a Facebook post one day which publicly shamed a child for leaving a cat with them to rescue. They ended up deleting it, but hundreds of people had already seen and commented. Some of the staff here is disrespectful and unkind to humans, which does make me worry for the animals as well. Its disappointing for someone who donates so much to this rescue to see. It’s definitely not the worst rescue, but I hope to see some improvements in the organization of or clarity of the establishment’s wishes regarding interacting with potential animals. And they NEED to treat humans better because they need humans to HELP save animals and support them. Humans donate, foster, and rescue. I get that they see the worst of humans, but many of us are TRYING to help. The bad attitudes are so off putting. Help us help you. Please. I fully intend to continue to support and am leaving this review with 5 stars because the work of saving animals means more than the negativity, and I hope others see and understand that as well.

One of a Kind Pet Rescue has filled our home with so much love and companionship. One of a Kind will always have a special place in my heart for saving my animals from being euthanized as well as thousands of others. It can be a very thankless job, but we recognize the work they do and appreciate the individuals that are advocating for these helpless animals.

And she loved the attention. She was the star at they pool Party. She got snacks and smiles from others. The workers are so polite and helpful. This place used to be my number one recommendation for shelters but lately I’ve been really disappointed with them. Up until my last two cats, who happened to be Facebook finds, I’ve only adopted from one of a kind and those animals turned into life long companions. My history goes so far back that I remember when they still were connected to the Circle K so I go way back. But today really showed me their true colors. As I was dropping off breakfast for a friend at work, an elderly woman approached and asked if we knew anyone who took in strays. This woman was clearly on a morning walk and had noticed this sweet grey kitten on the side of the road. Being the animal lover I am, I offered to help her take it somewhere because neither of us could leave her on the side of the road. I started with my own job, which only takes animals in if it’s medically necessary and it was not. So I took her to my trusted rescue. One of a kind. The first interaction I had was very kind. A young girl with black hair and scrubs and a young guy in a baseball hat. They both seemed concerned and genuinely wanted to help. However, someone told them they were at max capacity and wouldn’t take another animal in. I asked if they had any solutions because putting her back out on the street was just wrong and the humane society was asking for money I just don’t have at the moment. And they really came up with no great solution. I work night shift so I’m well up past my bedtime trying to do a good deed and usually babysit on my days off so I didn’t really have a lot of time to drive around all of Akron to find someone to take her. I wish I had gotten the name of whoever I spoke to next because this is what really appalled me. She was an older woman with blonde hair and bangs. She told me they were at max capacity and I should take the animal back to where I found it and leave it there. Not only is that illegal but extremely immoral and I was shocked to here someone who is supposed to be passionate about saving animals say that to me. She offered nothing more to help me in my journey to get this cat somewhere safe at the very least. What she didn’t know is I actually have a friend who works there and I texted them ahead of time to let then know the situation. After I had been turned away and told they were at max capacity, they texted me and told me that the facility had just taken in a pregnant cat. They guessed the reason they didn’t take my cat in was because they wouldn’t profit off a female cat alone and would off kittens. Clearly this facility has lost its true purpose and meaning and has turned its head towards a profit rather than taking in animals in need. Luckily my story has a happy ending to it and a stranger passed along the good deed and paid for the fee for the cat to go to the humane society. I’m incredibly disappointed in this interaction with this rescue and can no longer say that I whole heartily believe in this place and I hope that they can reevaluate their values and change to be that great rescue I remember before.

This is Willow! She moved in about 3 weeks ago and is doing great!! She's a very good girl and we are all learning each other and settling in nicely. Our experience with One of A Kind was very simple and rewarding! Thank you!

It's such a great place. Please, please, please consider adopting or donating. So many cats; yes, there are kittens plus puppies and dogs that need a loving home. These are bonded pair (sisters) 7 yrs old. Black white with blue eyes. Need to be in a home with NO CATS or SMALLER ANIMALS, dogs their size is ok. The smaller of the 2 is so depressed and just stuck right beside me and my roommate. The other is listless and stares out the glass for a home. They are both friendly and in need of a home together with lots of love.

This is a bustling no kill shelter that sometimes takes dogs from the kill shelter. I haven't been visiting regularly that often but I was in Friday and most of the animals that I saw on Monday cat wise especially seem to have already been adopted and a lot of the dogs. They do have puppies there now but they have some dogs that need real animal people to adopt them. You are going to pay pay a premium price for your dog at this shelter. However, you must look at that as a charitable donation to keep this no skill shelter going. They have expenses and they can't rely on straight up donations so they have no choice but to charge a higher rate. That being said and from my experience that's where I will adopt every pit as long as I live in the state of Ohio.

Went Saturday to find an older, low energy, sweet dog. We were guided to a dog that we walked, and spent time with and she seemed to fit the bill! After we paid, they mentioned the medicine that would be going home with her...a sedative from a recent surgery. RED FLAG, but I thought maybe her temperament wouldn't be that different. Long story short, I called several times to inform them that the adoption would not be successful but they don't answer the phone. It felt shady to me. We did not accept a partial refund as was their policy and chalked it up to lesson learned. Buyer beware.

We adopted a kitten a few weeks ago and the volunteer noticed that he was sneezing and said he was fine! We brought him home and he was sick and got our other 2 cats sick! All had to go to the vet and it cost me a lot of money!! I contacted One of a kind and told then how disappointed I was and she said " oh he wasn't sick at the shelter, otherwise he would have been medicated"! Yah, he should have been medicated! Yet It was ignored! Told me that basically it was out fault for not telling someone higher up and that it wasn't the volunteers fault for noticing and not telling anyone there! The volunteers should have to speak up or they shouldn't be there!!! Not the 1st time I've heard this happen there

terrible customer service. every employee was extremely rude throughout the entire adoption process. it was almost like they didn't want the adoption to happen- they would rather keep these animals in crates and not do their job. when i asked questions i got snobby remarks, was given many rude stares and dirty looks from each associate that was there. another guy said he was gonna decline my adoption request because the dog that ISN'T mine but lives with me was BARKING... not showing teeth or being aggressive. but barking. make it make sense. do better. this is ridiculous. oh and to top it off, i brought a collar but they said it wasn't good enough. made me pay for a leash AND collar. the leash was 19 damn dollars. like really? im just very disappointed in how my first visit went. i will never adopt from this location again.

The adoptions process is extremely unorganized. I went in for a dog I saw posted and I was told I had to wait in line. A guy came in right after me asking for the same dog and the girl told him “ sure ,this one’s unclaimed “.no organization and over priced the adoption fees and I felt like all they cared about was the money.Even when I went and adopted my first dog adult dog from there, the process was just very unorganized on who was available, over charged me on adopting an adult dog. If I would have known I was going to spend$600 on an adult dog, I would have bought one directly from a breeder for only a hundred more.

Excellent business. I went through the whole process when I got my little dog as she needed everything. What a great value for all the services she needed. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend it.

This organization does great work. They have a variety of dogs and cats available for adoption as well a reasonable variety of pet supplies. If you are looking for a new furry friend, one of a Kind is worth a visit.

A wonderful place to find a animal friend. The people here care about the animals so much and are so kind and helpful. I have recommended One of A Kind to so many people and all of them have had wonderful adoption experiences. I will never get another pet from anywhere else!

What an amazing animal shelter! Within an hour, I walked out with my brand new puppy to foster on my way to adoption. This handsome little guy came with food, a cage, some treats, and toys for the fostering period and if we want to adopt it is only $385. I can't stress how helpful everyone was and supportive especially to my new wife who is afraid of animals and wants to do her best.

Only downside to this spot is the adoption fees and process. Great facility and animals are in good shape every time they do what needs done for them. Makes you wish you had money to take em all home haha

Rude employee. The website doesn't explain the adoption process so when we showed up with our dog during business hours, like it suggests, we couldn't even bring her in to meet any dogs. We had to fill out applications for the dog we're interested in first? I'm not going to be interested in a dog my other dog isn't interested in. The woman seemed very intent on deterring me from doing anything at all there and she was successful.Hour long drive to get snapped at by the humans ha.

Fostering: Should've been a clue when they handed over 3 puppies, having only my name and number on scrap paper. When I told them the puppies were sick they argued that "it's normal from deworming." When I insisted, they just ignored me. But shortly after dropping them off for their scheduled neutering, after which they were to go to the rescue center, they called to chastise me because the puppies were sick so I'd need to pick them back up. Seriously? (I had already committed to foster for another rescue, so I couldn't.) I have fostered dozens of animals, including some seriously ill ones and never had an experience that came close to this. There are plenty of other rescues who appreciate, respect, and support their much-needed foster volunteers.Adopting: Adopted what they said was a 5yo cat with leukemia and 3 legs. He had been there for months and seemed traumatized. The girl helping us even discouraged us from taking him, so we knew he had little chance of being adopted. We asked what happened to his leg but they had "no idea." Once home, it was clear walking on 3 legs was new to him and the records they gave us showed they had removed it, but there was no indication why. There was conflicting info about the FeLV, so our vet checked him out. He was not only negative, but was less than 2 years old. He is gorgeous and after earning our trust, he is affectionate and loves being with us. But he is still very skittish and hides when anyone else is in the house.I appreciate what the rescue is mostly trying to do, especially the clinic services, and the good people there deserve credit. But there are too many bad ones who pretend to know more about animals than they do or are just rude, arrogant, and disrespectful to customers, foster homes, and potential adopters.

Such a great place full of compassionate and knowledgeable staff. The animals are wonderful. We’ve adopted 5 FeLV+ cats from them over the last two years. We will always adopt from OOAK!

They have aggressive dogs out in the public that bite. Got bit by a dog that staff said is known to bite. Signs blocked off and hard to read. A child easily could have gotten bit. Staff handled the situation without care.

I love coming here! They take great care of all the animals and are diligent in ensuring the pets are responsibly adopted. Plus, 8ish rooms of cats to play with?!?! 🤩 (and dogs, if you're into that kind of thing).

We adopted Crimp(stevie nicks(steve)) from her about a month ago now. She has been a wonderful and sweet addition to our family after my husband's heart cat passed away. Thank you one of a kind for making families complete.

I can't say I had a great experience.. the phone number listed for their facility is NEVER answered.. no matter what time of day, or day you call.. The only way to reach them is online.. I tried to get help for stray cats, and I got told that "feral cats don't do well in rescue".. It was suggested I reach out to a TNR.. but the problem was that they needed homes.. because of on coming weather and the fact people in the neighborhood were wanting to poison them.. As far as I am aware, rescues work with animals that need help.. so feral or not.. A rescue would usually step up.. Maybe they do well with the other animals they get, but they weren't much help to us.. and all other pounds and humane societys told us to reach out to them.. that they would help.. Stray and feral cats can be tamed, and make great house pets.. I know.. I've done it a lot..

Please do not adopt a dog from here. Foster them 1st if anything. I adopted a dog from here and she’s a sweet pea but she does not like my dog at all. One of their policies is to have your dogs meet before adoption and they just handed her over to me. Well, my dog and the dog I adopted do not like each other! I called back a week later and they said they had no room left and to “just put them in separate rooms for now.” It’s been over a month. Just know that you can not bring the dog back unless they have room and they’ll tell you they don’t. It puts you in a heartbreaking situation of having to take your new adopted dog to the pound. Just to keep in mind!

This is an organisation very worthy of your support. One Of A Kind Pet Rescue does important work in an efficient, organised and ethical manner. They put pets first, no matter what. They take back failed adoptions no questions asked, committing completely to vulnerable homeless animals. I have adopted from OOAKPR, and also currently serve as a foster home. I’ve fostered animals for many similar organisations, and OOAKPR never fails to impress me with their solid support of their fosterers and their ability to establish trust both ways. Their volunteers are lovely, and they work so hard - because they not only believe in the cause, they believe in OOAKPR.
