If I could give this place 6 stars I would! Everything about the Amble Inn is very welcoming. Doug and Mary are amazing people and very kind. They also have a bookstore right next to the inn. The room itself feels like a modern cabin with accents of pine and has photos on the wall representing the history of the area. Everything is very clean and well kept and quite spacious. There's coffee ready to be brewed which will be an amazing addition to the beautiful mornings here in Medora. The bathroom is very clean with a beautiful tiled shower. I can talk all day about this place but to keep it short, if you're in Medora, passing through, or visiting Theodore Roosevelt National Park, stay at the Amble Inn. You will not be disappointed.

Rooms were huge and spacious, beds super comfy, and overall atmosphere was so cute and western themed! Bookstore was great and we had absolutely no problems with anything. If we come back to Medora we will definitely stay here again.

Had a last minute issue getting a campsite at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Mary and Doug were incredibly accommodating and set me up with a room in the basement despite myself asking for a room at 1am. Room had a couch, TV, a full kitchen, access to wifi, and a second room with four bunk beds. Very clean, very comfortable. Absolutely would stay again

An exceptionally rude lady at the front desk. We never made it to the property due to the snowstorm and government-mandated highway closure. We were trying to figure out our stay as the storm changed all our plans. We texted the hotel that we can't come as all roads leading to the hotel were closed. 5 Days later, I see a 100% charge on my credit card. When I called the hotel, the lady, very rudely replied: "In this country we have storms and this is normal". No apology, no empathy. Just that "We need to cover ourselves". So basically we got charged $150 for two rooms that we never even occupied. I never write negative reviews, especially for small business owners, but I make an exception to that in case of Amble due to total lack of empathy, lack of courtesy and overall rudeness displayed by the lady with whom I spoke. On the other hand, for our other room in Black Hills, SD that was booked on Airbnb, the host refunded us 100% of the amount without any questions and was extremely empathetic of our situation.I completely understand hotels, especially small family owned ones need to cover their basic costs, but to charge someone 100% when all roads leading to their property are closed due to a winter snowstrom, is just plain treachery and against all principles of friendly, family owned hotels.

Absolutely loved this place. The owners, Mary and Doug, are extremely helpful and insightful. The rooms are immaculately cared for, and exceedingly clean. We have been traveling for a few days and no other place comes close to how nice this one is, especially for the price range. When you book, I would recommend just calling them up and booking directly. If I could rate this more than five stars, I would.

Be careful! Make sure you check your room for any damages before moving any of your belongings into your room. Over 2 hours after we check out we get a text message with a pic attached of a small hole behind a door that had been fixed several times preciously. They charged our bank acct $50 for damages that she states she had not charged previous people that stayed in the room. (We turned around on our trip to see the damage and talk to them in person. The man was not around.) The wall had a small hole in the paint/drywall that had happened from the lock that sticks out past the door knob itself. Since damage had happened previously, (and fixed several times previously) why did she not install a door stop? She says she did by placing a sharp jagged rock behind the door to stop it from hitting the wall. (We have our own pic of the rock and hole). Who does this? This is normal wear and tear that happens when proper equipment is not installed.Other than this our stay was very nice. We only dealt with the man (Doug Ellison) when checking in and when buying books. We complimented him on the room and the shower. I asked his advice about a good book for my grandson, etc. It was Mary Ellison we dealt with about the room damage. She sent us a text that was not nice and very accusing. This is shady and completely unjustified. We have no proof that this did not happen previously. If we had done that we would have talked to them. But as I stated, you can clearly see in the pic that this has happened several ttimes.Anyone would think that a rock was there to hold the door open for moving stuff in, rather than stopping a door from hitting a wall. A door stop cost less than $5. This is not the customers responsible, iis the owners. Clearly having no door stop stalled says they were not worried about the wall when you can see several attempts to fix it. How many other people are going to be charged, or have been charged, for this same hole? So put a damn door stop in and treat your customers with some respect when issues arise. Don't wait so long to text them. This seems like they were just hoping we were too far away. But as I stated, otherwise it was nice looking and comfortable. Just stay at your own risk. We will not be back because of this.

Absolutely the best place we could have chosen. Clean, quiet, quaint, simple yet stylish, modern yet rustic. Fabulous big shower with good hot water. Really Adorable. Owners are wonderful, very accommodating and down to earth. Highly recommend. Walk to eateries. You will in no way be disappointed.

Delightful stay in a very nice, nearly new and very well cared for Inn. A pleasure to visit with the on-site owners who have lots of history in Medora. And the bonus... their amazing adjoining Western Edge bookstore with about anything you could ask for in western flavored history and information... Think Louis Lamour, Teddy Roosevelt, the National Park, the railroads... you name it’s here!!!BTW... this Amble is not related to the Inn... 😊😊😊

A bookstore and next to a national park? Two of my favorite things! The room was large and fantastic. I booked this as a slight detour on a business trip. Only suggestion, would be for an iron and ironing board for business travellers.

Not Good!! I made reservations in December of last year. When we arrived they tried to put us in a dungeon of a room in the basement of their bookstore with bunk beds and a concrete floor for $100+ a night. No way!! In Minnesota that would not be a legal room.

A great place to stay in Medora, ND with a a convenient location to Theodore Roosevelt National Park (South Unit)! The people who own the place are very friendly and offered as much help as I needed with questions about Medora as well as the national park. There are nearby restaurants and drinking places as well as a convenient store for breakfast that are all within a short walking distance.

We hit the end of the season so it was pretty quiet in Medora. I would still recommed this Inn to any one wanting to stay here for a few nights. Comfy bed and a good sized bathroom.

We planned on spending 3 nights in Medora to explore Roosevelt natl park. After checking in we walked over to a restaurant for dinner. I decided to have a cigar on the back patio of the hotel. After about 15 minutes a woman came around the corner and in a stern voice informed me that "there is no smoking on our property inside and out. The smoke is coming thru our screen door" I apologized and left the area to finish my cigar. When I returned, my wife (who was in bed) informed me that someone was knocking at the door. She did not answer as she was not dressed. A few minutes later there was a knock again. It was Mary with 2 other people that may have been her daughter and son? She informed me that we were to vacate the room immediately and we would forfeit lodging fees for that night and the next. She indicated "I am sick of you smokers" I was in shock. I asked if there might be other lodging in town and she said the closest lodging was likely in Dickinson 30 miles away. She showed me a copy of the lodging confirmation E mail sent to me when we reserved the room 30 days prior. It did say the grounds are non smoking. When I received the email and did skim thru it and did not remember not to smoke outdoors at the hotel. We were forced to leave, drive around and find a room at 10 pm at night. If you read most reviews for the Amble Inn they are great. Take the time to read the bad ones. It seems to me there is a pattern. I am now forced to fight for a refund of $443 thru the Visa dispute system and we were forced to change our vacation plans because I forgot not to have cigar on the property of a very crabby owner.

Wonderful experience! The owners are so nice, truly salt of the earth people. The Inn is clean and quaint, with the canyon as a backdrop. And, they have a bookstore inside the inn!!!!
